Don Yenko was a race car driver and automotive enthusiast at heart. When he took over his father's Chevrolet business in Pennsylvania he set up a performance shop which he called Yenko Sports Cars. Word got out that you could buy special performance parts there, or even have Chevrolet mechanics build you a performance car. Yenko began to specialize in swapping 1969 Yenko Nova 427powerful engines into lightweight performance cars such as the Corvair Stinger, 427-powered Camaro, Chevelle and the Yenko Nova. Of all of these, the Yenko 427 Novas are the most rare.

The Yenko SC big-block Nova was produced exclusively in 1969. By 1970, insurance companies were getting wise to the big block 427 cars, so Yenko decided to use the LT1 350 engine in the Yenko Deuce cars. In the only year produced, Yenko built 28 big block 427 Nova cars, while 9 other Novas were treated to the 375-horse 396 L78 engine. According to Yenko, the L72 427-1969 Yenko Nova 427powered Novas were the wildest cars he ever built. They were factory 396 cars with no SS emblems, and a transplanted 427 engine. Some Nova afficionadoes will tell you that a Yenko 427 Nova could go from 0 to 60 in four seconds.

The car pictured here is a Rallye Green 4-speed, which is said to have been sold new at V.V. Cooke Chevrolet in Louisville Kentucky. Don Yenko described the car as "a Beast, almost Lethal." Only a few are known to exist. It has been on the cover of American Muscle Supercars and there are said to be numerous magazines and books written about this car. This car is currently being offered for sale from a private collection.

It came to our attention that convertibles are really starting to get hot in this market. People are already looking for a summer convertible and sellers are stiffening up on their prices. We have many summertime convertibles in our Convertible Section. Most of the cars there are still priced for winter sales. A sharp buyer might cash in on the lower prices now before the sellers get wise to the fact that convertible values are going up. This is going to be a good spring market. You have to make hay while the sun is high.

I don't know how long we can keep this up, but again this week you will see incredible sales results when you read the SOLD Feature at the bottom of this page. (Click here to view all the SOLDs by private sellers in the past week.) There must be something special about this market that so many vehicles are selling. Somebody tell us what is going on. We don't have a clue.

Week in and week out you'll see a Corvette Pace Car or two for sale. These are usually factory produced replicas of the cars that paced the actual Indianapolis 500 Championship race that 2008 Corvette Indy Pace Caryear. But this week a Chicago, Illinois collector listed his 2008 Corvette Indy Pace Car Convertible which he says is one of the 63 cars that were used at the actual race in Indianapolis. It is what is known as a Festival Car, one of the parade vehicles that is featured during the pre-race festivities. The seller says that this is the car that was assigned to 2-time Indianapolis 500 winner Danny Wheldon. You can see photos of Wheldon with the car in the ad. GM made a certain number of these special edition Pace Cars available to personalities involved with the 500. They were allowed to use them for special appearances during the pre-race week events. This is car #48 out of the 63 Corvette parade cars (43 of them were convertibles.) It marks the first time a Flex-85 green fuel pace car was used at the Indianapolis 500. The seller says it has only 7k miles and is loaded with options. It has a signature of Emerson Fittipaldi who drove the official pace car for the race that year.

We like the video sent in by a private seller from Chandler, Arizona. He is selling a 1966 Chevy Malibu Convertible. The heart of this car is a non-original LS7 454 SS crate motor, one of the ones Chevrolet designed to be put into the Corvette in 1970. You must hear it run in the video to really understand the impact this engine might have had on the muscle car community had 1966 Chevy Malibu ConvertibleChevrolet gone ahead with the introduction of this engine. But, unfortunately, Chevrolet canceled the engine program for the Corvette. So now the only place you might find one is right here in this cool '66 Malibu convertible. Click here to see the video and hear this special engine run. This was a father and son private project. Very desirable. The car is equipped with an M-22 rock crusher 4-speed transmission that has been totally rebuilt, according to the ad copy. It has a KK 4.10 Posi rear axle. However, the gears were changed to 3.36's so it can be driven on the freeway. They say it also has a heavy duty custom drive shaft.

Oldsmobile pulled out all the stops to produce their 15th Anniversary Edition 1983 Hurst Oldsmobile (shown above left.) This one is offered by a collector from Raleigh, North Carolina. He says it has been preserved with only 7,999 actual miles. What a find! Same story on the 1966 Cadillac Coupe DeVille Hardtop (above center) offered by The Last Detail in North Chicago, Illinois. The Last Detail serves a high end collector clientele on the north side. They say this one is an exceptional, unrestored survivor, and that it has just 15k orignal miles. And a 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne (shown above right) has been offered by a collector from Merced, California. He says it is a rust free California black plate survivor with original 1959 pink slip. Mopar fans will go balistic over this beautiful black 1962 Plymouth Savoy Max Wedge clone (shown above left) that has been listed for sale by a collector from Monrovia, California. Much more can be done by adding Air Ride or beefing up the motor. But that's for you to decide. This unusual ride will be our DEAL of the DAY this coming week. The asking price is only $6,995.
