Linked here are the most important pages of the newsletter, the New Listingspage and the Price Changespage. You may want to bookmark these two, because they are updated in real time as the ads are loaded onto our website. These links will be good through Thursday, July 3, 2014. Then on Friday, July 4, 2014, you'll get a new version of the newsletter and a fresh new listings page with real time updates on new ads for the coming week.)
... If you followed our reports from the big 2014 Back to the 50s Weekend this past week you may know that our Facebook fans were picking the Best of Show cars, voting with their "Likes." The car that was voted Best of Show by our Facebook followers is a 1958 Pontiac Bonneville Custom Hardtop which was brought to the show by Ron Barclay of Chicago, Illinois. His '58 Custom Bonneville took two-and-a-half years to build, he told us. He added dozens of custom mods as you can see in the photos. It received the most "Likes" by our Facebook followers. Click here to review the voting on Facebook. Or click to our 2014 Back to the 50s Weekend story with all the top cars in the voting.
... Although prices on most collector cars are scaling up in small increments, the very high end and most desirable muscle cars and exotic classics continue to advance at a much faster pace. Note that at the inaugural Mecum Auction in Seattle two weeks ago a super rare 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sold for $3.5 million. Although that is not an all-time record sale it is the highest price we've seen on a Hemi Cuda since before the recession. It raises the bar for the muscle car market and is the biggest news in the collector car market thus far this year.
... Be sure to check our Cars On Line Car Show Calender for shows in your area this weekend. The Car Craft Street Machine Nationals is being held this weekend in DuQuoin, Illinois. Also in Illinois this weekend is the Bloomington Corvette Show. Both of these shows can be found on our Cars On Line Car Show Calendar. The The Great Race which started in New England is in its seventh day passing through Wilmington, North Carolina on its way down to Florida. Find out more at the link on our calendar for today. June is the summer month with the fullest schedule of car shows. We only list the biggest shows in the country. You'll be able to find one close to you almost every weekend now for the rest of the summer.
... For the umpteenth week in a row sales have been unusually strong in the collector car market. Look at all the SOLDs we've recorded by private sellers below in our SOLD thru COL feature (click to view all the cars SOLD this week.) Joe from Raymond, New Hampshire used a Run Till Sold ad to sell his 1949 Mercury Custom. It only took 2 weeks! "Great job!" he told us. "We SOLD another one. Lets sell some more together!" Our sales are registering noticeably higher this year over the same period in 2013. We've noticed that there are fewer "players" in the market and the true collectors are reacting well to the prices we are currently seeing. Stay tuned as the summer season draws out more of the high quality collector cars and muscle cars.
We saw many cool automotive gadgets at last week’s Back to the 50s Weekend (See our coverage!) in St. Paul, Minnesota, but one item that really caught our eye was Auto Meter’s fully integrated GPS Speedometer. These cutting edge GPS Electric speedometers accurately monitor speed on or off-road by using satellite signal technology. Best of all, setup is relatively hassle-free – no modules required!
According to Auto Meter, these speedometers need only power/ground connections and a GPS signal from the (included) ultra-fast micro antenna to function. No more worrying about tire size, gear ratios, or even electronic signal convertors, it’s plug and play simple. See for yourself when you watch the Auto Meter GPS Speedometer Installation and Usage video. The video uses a marine speedometer, but rest assured technology and operation is exactly the same for the automotive line. The speedometers come in variety of designs and colors, but custom gauges are also available through Auto Meter’s custom shop. Visit the Auto Meter website to learn more.
Cars On Line.com sees buyers and sellers from all over the world, and the Cars On Line Inspection Service has become a necessity for many car buyers. One of the things we always preach is to have an inspection done before you buy. Don’t buy sight unseen!
It's no secret. Many sellers out there have a tendency to exaggerate the quality of the vehicles they're selling. Efforts to get the best price aren't always an attempt to be misleading. Some sellers just don't see the problems with the vehicles they've spent years driving or restoring. This causes a problem when the quality of the vehicle is sitting right between one class and another, a predicament that could be hard to identify and mean a difference in thousands of dollars. Take this 1959 El Camino for example. The ad indicated it was a 20-foot car, and to the seller it may have looked good at that distance. That statement implies the car is a "driver quality" car. The inspector reported otherwise, "this is not considered a 20-footer, but more like a 40-footer." He also said it came in at a low Class Four, even a Class Five. Click here to see the inspection report and find out why.
The Cars On Line Inspection Service has set the standard for inspections and appraisals on collector cars. The inspectors in our inspection network use our standard report so that you get the same type of service anywhere in the United States or Canada. Our contracted inspectors are not affiliated with any sales organization. Their loyalty is to the buyer. Click here to find out more! And to learn more about inspection services, see the Classic Car Inspection Services article from our How to Buy a Car Online series.
Let’s give a round of applause to Sri B. of Pennsylvania for submitting the correct answer to our latest Hood Ornament Contest! He was the first to correctly identify the hood mascot you see pictured here as belonging to a 1940 Oldsmobile Series 90 Touring Sedan. Thanks to his wits, Sri will be receiving a $45 check from Cars On Line.com. Congratulations, Sri, and good luck to everyone on next month’s contest!
This hood ornament was prevalent throughout the ‘40s, but this particular example came from a 1940 Oldsmobile Series 90 Touring Sedan that we spotted at The Auto Collections at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Please note: In order to win, readers must fill out and submit the Hood Ornament Contest entry form. The Cars On Line Hood Ornament Contest is a regular monthly feature of this newsletter. Look for it again next month!

Video ads have become the most important new development for internet sellers. It is absolutely essential when you are selling a good quality car to include a video of the car in your ad. The best way to advertise it is in a Cars On Line.com ad with a video window. Just upload your video to You Tube. Then we will embed your video in your ad at no extra charge.

A survivor 1963 Pontiac Catalina Convertible (above center) is in the listings this week out of West Springfield, Massachusetts. At only 11,500 miles, you can take the seller's word that this 1999 Pontiac Trans Am (above right) has been barely driven. He goes on to say it's never been taken out in the winter months, and has seen hardly a rain drop. It runs on a 6-speed manual transmission and comes with removable T-tops and a grey leather interior.

The 1955 Ford Thunderbird seen here (above left) is said to have been cared for many years by the same owner and is now in the care of Beverly Hills Car Club of Los Angeles, California. We're told it's in excellent, original condition and would make a great candidate for restoration.

A private seller in Mukwonago, Wisconsin just put up a 1956 Corvette Roadster (above right) for sale. We're told it was a barn find from 2008 and had a seized motor and missing front fenders. Cars On Line's
DEAL OF THE DAYPREVIEW
In the popular DEAL of the DAY preview we give you first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY "rear view mirror" seen daily on the Cars On Line home page. Our fans wait eagerly each day to see which bargains will be highlighted. But often these cars sell right here in the newsletter before they have a chance to be viewed on the front page. If you aren't a newsletter subscriber you'll never know what you're missing. Newsletter readers are able to preview the best bargains on our website right here in the DEAL of the DAY feature. You'll always see it here first.
A friend of mine spotted an Impala SS 427 at Carlisle one year and freaked out. These cars are so rare that only 2,245 cars were reported to have been built in 1969. They continue to be a rare find among muscle cars. This week a collector from Menasha, Wisconsin listed his 1969 Chevy Impala SS 427 and says it is a real one. Naturally, this would be a 4-speed car with a 12-bolt rear end. He says it was purchased new at Gibson Chevrolet in the Fox Valley area. The seller's description indicates that the car has 90 percent original paint, a very rare and very original example. He writes that it runs and drives perfect. And now the best part. This car is so affordable that it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. This one is well below market value priced at just $18,900. Hurry!
This big 1936 Buick Century Sedan was listed along with a number of vintage classics this week. The seller from Jonesboro, Arkansas believes it to be the finest example of a '36 Buick you will find for this price range. It is a rare car completely restored front to rear, he says. He further goes on to say that the car is straight and original with the Straight 8 engine and 3-speed transmission on the floor. He says it will cruise at 70 mph coast to coast. It was in the Great Race in 2006. The color is Royal blue with a gray Mohair interior. Notice the dual sidemounts. He says it has six new tires, and has a $5k paint job. According to the description the engine has only 4k miles, and it has all new chrome, new gas tank and an electric fuel pump. This nice classic Buick will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday with an asking price of $18,950.
Although the collector car market is over saturated with first generation classic Ford Thunderbirds, 1955-1957, and there certainly are plenty of '60s Ford Thunderbirds available for sale, it is relatively hard to find the second generation Ford Thunderbirds, 1958-1959. This black 1958 Ford Thunderbird Coupe listed out of Port Charlotte, Florida by a private collector looks pretty nice in the photos. The seller says it gets a thumbs up everywhere it goes. In the description it says it has a strong original rebuilt V8 engine, newere radiator, power assist brakes with front discs, power steering, power windows, and newer tires with wire wheel covers. The bucket seat interior with a console is new according to the writeup. The Thunderbird AM/FM radio even works. The Raven black T-Bird would be interesting at any price, but on Monday it will be our DEAL of the DAY because the asking price is only $11,900.
Don't forget! Have these cars inspected before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html
I know that all the talking heads on TV are telling you that the economy is improving, but the fact is that prices on collector cars are continuing to soften. We've been noticing that the prices on average driver class cars are weakening. A good example is this 1972 Corvette Convertible listed by a private collector from Englewood, Florida. It is Code 973 red and is said to come with 2 tops, a 350 Corvette motor, automatic transmission and black leather interior. The seller says it drives like new. If you get a chance to see this car note to yourself how the panels and doors fit. It is a southern car and the seller says it is solid. You can tell that the owner paid attention to details on this car. He says it has had recent brakes, tires and stainless exhaust. He says the paint still looks good but that it could use fresh paint; and the original factory air conditioning and clock do not work. Even so, you never find these early '70s Corvettes in this price range. It will be our DEAL of the DAY feature on the front page of Cars On Line.com this week. The asking price is $16,750. Hurry!
First generation sport utility vehicles (SUVs) are in high demand by collectors especially down south where many of them have survived very well. This 1969 Chevy Blazer CST is one of only 5,000 made that year. The seller from Port Jefferson, New York tells us it has been garaged all its life. He says you will be amazed at how tight the steering is, how smooth it shifts and how it handles. The photos show a pretty clean interior. The ad copy says it will stop on a dime due to the front axel being swapped out from a '72 Blazer with disc brakes. The seller does not some items that will need attention. Be sure to have it inspected before you buy it. But this one might be worth the effort. The seller says the 4WD works and that it has had a fresh paint job. If you've seen what these trucks are going for already restored, you might give this one a look. The asking price is only $15,500.
Here's a classic '50s car that looks the part. Look at that '50s tutone factory paint. This is a 1955 Packard Panama Super Clipper 2-Dr Hardtop listed by a collector from Mesquite, Texas. The seller says the paint is showing its age, but that the car is one of those you can get in a drive right now. According to the ad copy it has only 54k miles, and it remains one of only four listed in the Packard registry. The V8 engine has 320 ci displacement with a Twin Ultramatic transmission and power brakes. Among the items that will need attention on this car are the front seat bottom material and a rear bumper that is showing its age. But the seller notes that the underside of this car is very dry. Be sure to inspect it. He says it is "driver quality." It will be listed in our DEAL of the DAY feature next week as the asking price is very affordable at $14,500.
Don't forget! Have these cars inspected before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html
Our newsletter readers have many a time heard us regale about the story of the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible and how Cadillac dealers billed them as the "last Cadillac Eldorado convertibles." At the time Cadillac people thought it was the end of the road for their beloved big convertible Eldorado. So dealers told buyers that they would be collector items from day one. For the next ten years people were still storing them away with very low miles. Then reality set in and when everyone realized that there were too many of them on the market to make them collectible you saw a flood of them out on the market. Today we have a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible for sale in the Cadillac Section for a very low price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next Friday if it lasts that long. The asking price is only $9,900.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
