Mopars are back! In a surprising turn-around from one month ago, Mopar muscle cars have once again emerged as the favorites among internet buyers (see our Mopar Section). Dodge Challengers took the lead, claiming 15.3 percent of internet searches during June. Just last month Challengers had ranked sixth on our “Top Ten Most Popular” list for muscle cars. Each month the Cars On Line staff analyzes statistics from Google and Bing search engines in order to understand consumer trends. This past month the demand for Dodge muscle cars returned among internet buyers. For the second month in a row, the Dodge Charger landed in second place, claiming 14.6 percent of internet searches. Meanwhile, Camaro maintained its third-place position and Shelby Mustangs jumped up two spots to round out the top five. View the Top Ten Muscle Cars below.

Once again it was a month dominated by Ford in the classic car market. According to Google and Bing statistics, 13.8 percent of internet buyers were in pursuit of something built by Ford (see our Ford Section). For the second month in a row, the Ford F100 pickup truck was the vehicle that drew the most searches on the internet. The classic pickup was so popular that it made up 4.2 percent of all internet searches for classic vehicles. There were only minor changes in June’s classic car rankings. Rolls-Royce jumped up three spots to fifth place, while Nash fell three spots to eighth place. You’ll note this was the first time in as many months that Graham made an appearance within the Top Ten Classic Cars.
After you've purchased a classic car over the internet, you need to find a reliable way of getting the car to you. You could fly to the location to pick it up yourself, you could drive to the location with a friend or you can hire a professional auto transport service to get it to you. This week’s How to Buy a Car Online is about the latter.
A good auto shipper will help to protect your new asset and get it on the road and into your hands with minimum hassle. In Auto Transport Across the United States, you’ll learn about what to expect in a good auto transport company, with a focus on Cars On Line partner United Routes.
Gateway Classic Cars continues to build their classic car dealer franchise base, now opening a fresh location in the Detroit area. This week they began advertising their inventory from their Detroit area location at 15000 Commerce Drive in Dearborn, Michigan. Detroit will be Gateway Classic Cars' fourth location. They are currently taking consignments. The first 50 cars to be consigned will be for no charge for 90 days.
They will be offering cars such as this 1947 Ford Custom hot rod with special classic custom features: frenched tri-bar headlights, recessed turn signals and tail lights, plus Boyd wheels. The door and trunk handles have been shaved for that sleek look. Click here to see a walk-around video of this classic cruiser. You'll be seeing more of Gateway's Detroit area inventory in the feature cars below.
This is the fourth classic car dealership to be established under the Gateway Classic Cars flagship name. They also have classic car dealerships in St. Louis, Chicago and Louisville, Kentucky.
When in the market for a true high performance machine, you can look to Hennessy Performance, Hendricks Motors or Lingenfelter. “Ultimate street machine” is almost an understatement when talking about the 2010 Camaro Lingenfelter SS/RS just featured in a SLIDE SHOW ad and located in Columbus, Ohio. Less than 1,000 miles ago, Lingenfelter rebuilt the drivetrain with the goal of reaching a staggering 800 horsepower on pump gasoline. They succeeded in their mission, with an engine dynoed at 909 rear-wheel horsepower! You can see the results in the video, posted here, that shows you what this beast can do on the track. Look at the times on the board, and you’ll notice this Camaro ran a 9.84 quarter mile at 144 miles per hour at the LSX Shootout World Nationals! We’re told it was second only to Lingenfelter’s own sponsored car.
The seller states that almost $140,000 has gone into this car, and he has the receipts to prove it. Lingenfelter’s work helped to modify the 427 ci LS7 block engine, EFI tuner and 4-speed automatic transmission. 100-shot nitrous is included, but not used in the current drivetrain. It’s fully streetable with a cold A/C and sunroof, but using it to just get groceries is a comical thought. The passport radar laser jammer is there for the other activities you’ll "definitely won't" be pursuing in this road demon.

|1958 Edsel Bermuda Wagon
Over 35 Years in Storage
"Rust-free, ugly and cheap," is the tagline the seller of this 1958 Ford Retractable (above left) is going with. An artist with gears and oil on the mind might take that as a challenge! The seller in Everest, Kansas says the car is not complete, but the body is solid and will be accompanied with a bill of sale.
The 1962 Ford Thunderbird (above center) for sale in Oshkosh, Wisconsin had an engine rebuild in 2004 and a repaint in 2000. It runs well, and moves down the highway just fine according to the ad. It's got 74,800 miles on it, and needs some restoration work to be what it deserves to be. The interior is faded and upholstery needs patching or replacing.
Only 759 of the 1958 Edsel Bermuda Station Wagons (above right) were made according to the seller of this one, located in Whitewater, Wisconsin. While it does need some work, we're told all the parts are present and installed. It's been in storage for more than 35 years, and is built with a 400 ci V8 Edsel engine with a push button on the steering wheel.

Galen Govier saw this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE at the Mopar Spring Fling and provided some very interesting details about its origin. This isn’t “just another Challenger.” Govier pointed out the “Q” present in the lower right of the fender tag, which in combination with “Lynch 101” stamped on the original warranty card, indicates this Plum Crazy Purple beauty was picked up directly at the plant it was made in, and owned by a company executive! The color is unique and the options are plentiful, just as you’d expect from a V.I.P. vehicle. The owner states that he’s driven on short and long trips, and that no mechanical issues ever presented themselves. The hood has been repainted, but the rest of the paint is original, as well as all of the body panels. See the ad for a full list of original parts which include an original, matching numbers engine and the original title obtained thanks to California’s old laws regarding classic cars. The seller also covers changes he made, which include upgrading to an electronic ignition, replacement of the carpet (though the original carpet is still included) and a replaced fuel system. You won’t be surprised either, as the seller tells us exactly what could use a little work in the car, including a detailed list of items listed in the fender tag. This collector has done his homework, and buyers wanting to be sure of what they’re getting need only peruse the ad for what they’re looking for. If a great price is part of the want-list, then the $5,000 price break on this Challenger should make it even more attractive. It’s been PRICE REDUCED from $45,000 to $40,000!
And you'll find hundreds more PRICE REDUCED vehicles on the Price Reduced page today. With all power and cold factory air conditioning, they say it runs and drives excellent. It is all ready for summer fun with the top down. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday since the asking price is only $11,900. How fast do you think this one will sell? I'm pretty sure it won't last through the weekend.
Don't forget! Have these cars inspected before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html
A 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition was posted by Coyote Classics in Greene, Iowa. This is a very desirable classic muscle car. The 10th Anniversary package included the 6.6 Liter 403 ci V8 and the WS6 package. They say this one was in storage too long and now has problems inside and out. Although they say it runs well it really could use a restoration. They say the car is complete but leather interior needs to be renewed and the there is rust through the floor pans. It comes with T-tops though and they say it is numbers matching. You might consider it a project car for restoration. But at this price it is still a bargain. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this coming week if it lasts that long. Coyote Classics is only asking $6,900 for this important collector car.
A collector from Oregon has listed his prized 1947 Nash Model 600 Super Brougham for sale. He says it is a 100 percent unrestored original with low miles, only 61,137 to be exact. He says it has had only one repaint in its original colors and has had a rebuilt drivetrain. The descriptions says that it comes with its original factory rebuilt radio, heater, owner's manual and the Technical Handbook. Notice the wide whitewall tires, decent original upholstery and chrome. The seller says it has solid floors. He says the gas tank has been disassembled and cleaned with new fuel lines. Recent work includes a tune up, rebuilt carburetor, starter, generator, master cylinder, wheel cylinders and the clutch. We think you'll agree that there is a lotta' car here for the money. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week as the asking price is $12,950.
The story of how new car dealerships represented the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible when it was a new car back in the day is legendary. We have recounted the tale many times for our newsletter readers. Since it was to be the last year for the Cadillac convertible most Cadillac dealers hyped them as being collector cars from the day they left the show room. Dealers would urge people to buy them and store them away for when they would escalate in value. To hear them talk about it you would have thought these cars were going to be worth $100,000 within a few years. I remember when we helped one seller get $125,000 for one in the early 1980's. Well today these cars are still great "future collectibles" and may someday be worth more than they are today. So this one may be a good investment. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this week because right now you can still buy it for just $14,900.
Don't forget! Have these cars inspected before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html
When we polled our readers to find out what was the Most Popular Muscle Car of All Time the Chevrolet Chevelle topped the list and won by a wide margin. That motivated us in no small measure to pick this 1972 Chevelle SS from Overland Park, Kansas to be our DEAL of the DAY this week. The seller says his Hugger orange Chevelle comes with its original engine (350), transmission (4-speed, M-20) and rear end (10-bolt). He says the interior is original except for the new carpet, new rear suspension, weather stripping, badging, front wheel wells and more. "The engine wiring harness was also replaced and the original radiator was re-cored and painted," he is quoted as saying. "I have the original build sheet and protect o plate documents." Even though it is a small block Super Sport, this is a very affordable way to get into collecting with a very popular car. That's why it will be our DEAL of the DAY this week. The asking price is $24,500
