Thank goodness for Vince Piggins. His idea for putting a big block V8 in the little Camaro Pony car that Chevrolet was to come out with in 1967 was a stroke of genius. (Piggins was the Manager of Product Performance at Chevrolet.) Then when Camaro was chosen to set the pace at the Indianapolis 500 race that first year, he took the opportunity to campaign the RS/SS look with a 396 big block under the hood. These were amazing times for Chevrolet.
That first-year 1967 Camaro RS/SS Indy Pace Car Convertible has to take a back seat to the 1969 model that so fascinates the collector car community. But we are here to tell you that the 1967 Camaro Indy Pace Car may be a better value. In addition to being the first year Camaro, it was also the rarer of the two years. In 1967 Chevrolet did not keep real good records so we don't exactly know how many Pace Car editions were produced that year. But experts believe there were less than 200 produced altogether. Compared to 1969 when Chevrolet built 3,675 Camaro Pace Cars, there is no doubt which is the most rare. In time, that should escalate the value of the 1967 Pace Cars.
REV Muscle Cars is selling a museum quality 1967 Camaro RS/SS Indy Pace Car Convertible for one of their clients in California. Not only is this a first-year edition Camaro, but it is a rare RS/SS Pace Car edition with a 396/325 hp engine and an M-21 4-speed transmission. When you look through the photos you will notice that it has been signed by A.J. Foyt, the Indy Car driver who won the Indianapolis 500 Championship race that year. This Pace Car has been restored to concours condition. (Look at the photos on the ad page.) The engine compartment and undercarriage are pristine.
You can find the full story on the rare 1967 Camaro RS/SS Indy Pace Car Convertible in our MyDreamCar.online blog this week. Be sure to read the story and follow the links to view some of the numbers matching photos. (You may have to become a member of the REV Muscle Cars site to view the documentation.) Then let us know about your expeiences with the first year Camaros in the comments box below the article. We love to hear your stories.

That was quite a party in Auburn last weekend. We hope you were able to attend the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival in Auburn, Indiana on Labor Day Weekend. It is the homecoming for hundreds of vintage Auburn, Cord and Dusenberg motorcars with a big show in the park and parade to the downtown square. Also this past weekend, Worldwide Auctioneers had their most successful sale ever during the Festival weekend. This 1929 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Coupe sold for $3.3 million at the highlight of the show. It was the top sale of the weekend. This Duesenberg had never been offered for sale previously so it was of some great interest. Click here to see the top ten sales from the Auburn Auction.
American Muscle, an aftermarket parts company, does a video series on how to build your Mustang into a super car. Their video is hosted by Dustin Dugan who is building his 2019 Mustang GT into a 724 hp monster. He shows us how he preps his Coyote powered Mustang for a huge power boost, addressing some of the weaknesses of the Coyote engine, namely adding forged gears to the fuel pump and a forged crank sprocket from Ford Performance. That sets the stage to ad a Whipple Supercharger to the engine. The Gen 5 Whipple is the hottest thing at the track today. American Muscle put this video together to show you how to increase your horsepower to right around 724 on a semi-modified GT with about 11 to 12 pounds of boost. Its about the best you can get on 93 octane gas from the pump. Watch the video here to find out what the dyno tells us. Grab your ear plugs.

There are some cars that you just can't verify even if you have some of the original paperwork and all the numbers check out. P.J.'s Auto World in Clearwater, Florida has an interesting 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT Convertible in Indy Pace Car livery. We checked the trim tag and it says 6H28S for the VIN code and it is a real 76H that came in Cardinal Red. Also, it was built in April of 1966 which would be an appropriate time frame for Pace Cars to be built. But it was sold at a Lincoln Mercury dealer in Oregon with DSO out of Seattle, Washington. That means it was not one of the Festival cars used at Indianapolis on race day in 1966. Those are the ones that are easiest to verify. The experts will say there is no way to prove that this one came from the factory as an Indy Pace Car. P.J.'s does a good job of photographing all the number stampings. We think it probably is a Pace Car, but you just cannot say for sure. One thing we can say ... it has been beautifully restored. Look at the photos of the undercarriage. And it does have the factory 390 ci V8 big block motor.
The Dodge Lil Red Express was a great promotion put on by Dodge to bring recognition to its truck technology and truck building prowess. It was only produced for two years, 1978 and 1979. The 1978 Dodge Lil Red Express you see here is the preferred production year. They only made 2,188 of them. They were the fastest production vehicle built in 1978, faster than any sports car produced in the U.S. This one is being offered for sale by Haggle Me, an internet broker selling this truck for their client. The truck was refurbished with only 5,000 miles on the redo. New equipmet included power brakes, power steering. new radiator, interior, heater core, tires, dual exhaust, front end, wood bed and more. It has a 360 engine with an automatic transmission.
We've told you that the Fall Carlisle Collector Car Show is one of the most “talked about” auto events in America. The Car Show, Swap Meet and Collector Car Auction draw thousands of collectors from all over the Eastern seaboard. On September 29 and 30, Carlisle will hold their Fall Auction at the Expo Center across from the show. You won't want to miss Truck Hour when they will exclusively be selling fine southern trucks. If you are a truck guy, this is the sale you don't want to miss.
You can't beat Southern trucks like this 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, one of the featured offerings during the upcoming Truck Hour at the Fall Carlisile Auction. This is the special North Face Edition Avalanche with custom interior and a body package. This is what you are looking for in a Southern truck. They say the paint is beautiful, and that it runs like it was brand new. Look at the photos of the flawless leather interior on the ad page at the link. It has the 5.3L engine with automatic transmission and only 88k Southern miles. Watch our promos for more trucks like this one during Carlisle's Truck Hour.
There is intense interest in classic pickups that have been restored with modern accoutrements like custom interiors and modern drivetrains. With the old school look and modern equipment you can drive these classic trucks anywhere. That's the story behind this 1963 Ford F100 Pickup which they classify as a "resto mod." Restored with an "arrow straight" body, the 350 GM crate engine has a Holley Sniper Fuel injection system, 700R4 automatic overdrive, and a 2200 stall convertor. With power rack n' pinion steering and 4-wheel disc brakes, you have it all in a classic package.
You truck guys may know that this 1996 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 will literally run forever and start up every time. This one was an original South Carolina truck so you can bet it really is as good as it looks in the photos. (Click here to review more photos.) They tell us it runs and drives "excellent." It has a 5-speed. That's unusual. And even though it is a 4X4, it still gets 18 miles per gallon on the highway (naturally you don't drive it in 4WD on the highway.) These Southern trucks age well so you get more for your money when you can find a good one.
You will find more than just pickup trucks here during Carlisle's Truck Hour. There will be Jeeps, SUV's and even conversion vans. This 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Evo Van caught our eye. They say this Evo conversion is like new with one owner and only 44k actual miles. The high top conversion has an endless list of upgraded equipment and options. As a mobile office or camper with luxurious seating, here is an inexpensive way to see America. It comes with the 5.9L Magnum engine which is EPA rated at 17 miles per gallon on a 35-gallon tank. It comes with a clean Auto Check report.

Ross Customs in Michigan comes up with some of the nicest cars we list here on Cars-On-Line. Ross put this video in his ad for a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-Door Hardtop this week. Watch as he takes you on a walk-around tour of this classic Chevy. He says it came from the factory with this Matador Red over Adobe Beige color. How does the sheet metal look? How does it drive out? Watch and see.

If you love the first generation Corvette Z06, here is the one for you. The private party seller from Canada tells us his 2002 Corvette Z06 still has just 9,500 original miles. That's amazing. Millenium Yellow was a popular color back then, and this one came with the black leather interior. It has the LS6 V8 with a 6-speed manual transmission, LG long tube headers, and Borla exhaust. You can image how it sounds. The seller says he just doesn't have the time to drive it. Your gain.

Here is an opportunity to add a truly rare classic European sedan to your collection. This is a 1963 Facel Vega Facel II being offered in its current state by Gullwing Motor Cars in Astoria, New York. They recommend that this car undergo a complete recommissioning. It does start and run, but is not road worthy. They only made 185 of these big sedans. They say they are very fast for such a solid and heavy luxury car. Have it inspected, or come to see it for yourelf.

Collectors love the look of the 1969 Camaro, making it one of the most desirable cars to collect. Here is a 1969 Camaro Z/28 Tribute that captures the look and feel that collectors love. It is being offered for sale at the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania this week. The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line homepage. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the homepage!
For those of us who want to channel our inner Clint Eastwood persona here is the object of our affection. It is a 1972 Ford Grand Torino being offered for sale by its private party owner in Wisconsin. You will remember that this is the muscle car created for the executive type with lots of creature comfort built in. It is what we call a country club car. This one may not be in the flawless condition that Eastwood's car in the movie Grand Torino was in, but the seller says it still has just 80k on the odometer. It has a 248 hp Cobra Jet V8 engine with a 4-barrel. The interior is black leather, and the seller says it is in good condition. Have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $12,000.
Our rule of thumb is, "If you see a first generation Ford Thunderbird for under $30,000 ... have it inspected" because if it is in high No. 3 condition or better you're gonna' buy it. So when we saw this 1956 Ford Thunderbird from Gullwing Motor Cars in Astoria, New York this week it peaked our interest. Gullwing does not rate the car on a 1 to 10 point basis, but they do tell us that it is "an excellent driver wearing an older restoration." Finished in its original color combination of Snowshoe White with black and white vinyl interior, they say it comes with the auxiliary hardtop. You will want to have it inspected before you buy, but you must hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $24,950. It may not last the weekend.
You just never see a finished street rod this nice at this price. A private party seller from Bulverde, Texas is selling his 1934 Ford Coupe with suicide doors. This coupe is not chopped, and has a fiberglass body with door handles and hinges. It features power windows, a 3-piece hood, VDO gauges, turn signals, wipers, and new tires. It comes with important equipment such as a Mustang II front end with coil overs, Ford rear, 2.3L engine w/Holley 2-barrel carb, and a 5-speed Tremec manual transmission. It is important to note that the seller says it looks and runs great. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $29,500.
Late 1960's cruisers are seldom seen in today's collector car market. Here is a 1968 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 Convertible being offered for sle through Streetside Classics in Phoenix, Arizona. Take a look at the photos. There are dozens of detailed photos on their ad page at the link. Of course, only an up close inspection can tell for sure. So it would be a good idea to have this one inspected before you buy. The mileage is listed as "unknown." Not many of these Oldsmobile Delmont 88's still exist today. This might be the one. It says it has power steering, power brakes and a power convertible top. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. The asking price is $19,995.
Nothing is hotter in the market right now than pre-owned Jeeps. This week a private party seller from Pennsylvania listed his 2000 Jeep TJ Sport at a very attractive price for the condition seen in the photos. He added Bushwhacker 6" Pocket Fender Flares and rocker extensions when he rustproofed the rust-free California Jeep. With new paint, it's ready to traverse hard weather conditions. He says the half doors can be quickly removed and stowed onboard. "Cushy seats have thick premium foam," and he has added 2022 Jeep Gladiator wheels. It all adds up to a great look. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesdy. His asking price is only $14,500.
Heavy demand for Mercedes-Benz SL sports cars in the 1970's through 1990's created a surplus of these venerated sports cars in this country. That keeps values low. But most of the SL's you find are in poor condition. Here is a 1984 Mercedes-Benz 280SL being offered for sale by Shelton Classics in Mooresville, North Carolina. Check out the condition on this one in the photos. Of all the SL's, the 280SL seems to be the most repected by car collectors. But we've never had one in our DEAL of the DAY feature before at such a good price. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week if it lasts that long. It is being offered for only $16,995.
Shelton Classics also posted this interesting Jaguar sports car for sale this week at a discount to the market price. The key to this being an interesting deal is the car's visible condition. They listed this 2003 Jaguar XK8 for sale. The XK8 was to be a modern day throughback to the Jaguar XKE, which is a legendary collector car. Take a close look at the photos. This North Carolina car was just listed for sale, and we don't expect them to have it for long. The engine compartment and interior look very clean, and the undercarriage is so clean. You only see that on Southern cars. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week if it lasts that long. Their price is $14,995.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
