We hope you all have a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend. You may want to catch the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 Championship Race on Sunday. It will be televised on NBC starting at 11 AM, ET. This year's Pace Car is a 2023 Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition. The high performance Corvette has the same naturally aspirated 5.5 Liter LT6 V8 engine rated at 670 horsepower. They say it will be equipped with the Z07 Performance Package as well. Wearing carbon-fiber wheels with Michelin Sport Cup 2 R ZP tires, it will have red brake calipers with carbon-ceramic brakes. The striping package will only be available on the Pace Car edition. The 2023's will be built this summer. +

The historic race car which was the first one to break the 200 mph barrier on a race course was sold last weekend at the Mecum Auction in Indianapolis. Buddy Baker set an official lap speed of 200.447 MPH on March 24, 1970 at Talladega Speedway driving this 1969 Dodge Hemi Daytona (seen left.) It was the first time anyone had done 200 mph on a closed circuit race course. It was offered from the Ray Evernham Collection. Ray said it was one of the prized pieces in his collection, and was restored in its racing livery. It sold on Saturday for $550,000. A streetable 1969 Dodge Hemi Daytona Charger which is said to be the most highly optioned Hemi Daytona to exist was also sold at the Mecum Auction on Saturday for $1,320,000. A new specialty car dealership has opened its doors in Wisconsin this month. Cassandra's Motorsports has joined the Cars-On-Line Dealer Network offering a wide variety of exotic sports cars, muscle cars and classic customs out of their new location in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, west of Milwaukee. They currently have cars such as this 2006 Ford GT in their showroom. It is an all-aluminum hand built supercharged 5.4L with only 1,967 miles.They also offer a service department that has expert Ferrari and Lamborghini technicians on hand. There just isn't anyplace like it north of Chicago. You will find more of their for sale vehicles below in the New Listings this week.

A 1981 Corvette from a private party seller in Aurora, Colorado is up for sale. It looks as though it is stored in a collection in the photo. The seller says it has only 27k documented miles. All stock and numbers matching, it has an automatic transmission and air conditioning. He says the car is in excellent condition.

With the ocean as a backdrop, this 1961 Ford Sunliner breezed into our listings this month. The California car was reasonably priced when the private party seller first posted it at $50,000. After all, it is pretty much original with a few upgrades, and some rare original equipment. But this week the seller lowered the price. He is now asking $40,000. That's what I'm talkin' about.

North Shore Classics in Mundelein, Illinois has listed a 1970 Chevy Nova with a Baldwin Motion appearance package. Take a look at all the photos in the ad. The underside of this car is as clean as the top. Click here to take a video tour of the car and hear it run. It has a built 350 motor with a 5-speed transmission. The gold paint looks good in the photos.

A 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL 2-Door Hardtop is our featured muscle car Deal of the Day on Saturday. It comes with a 390 4-barrel, power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. Extras include sliding steering column, dual exhaust, Lake pipes and fender skirts. The privatre party seller form Rhode Island tells us it is mostly original and runs strong. The paint may be a little olders and the previous owner began removing some of the chrome pieces for refurbishing. But the seller says he hs all chrome with some of it new to complete the car. Most important, the price is affordable. He is asking $12,500.

An internet broker called Haggle Me.com is offering a 1948 Chrysler Windsor for sale on behalf of their private party client. The car is a resto rod type mild custom that look pretty original in the photos. Custom add-ons include suicide doors, Ford 302 ci V8 motor, automatic transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering, tilt steering column, Coker tires and wire wheels. It also has an aluminum radiator, stereo and vintage air conditioning. They tell us it is a rust free car in very good shape. The suspension is "fairly new" in their words. The car needs an owner with mechanical skills to attend to a steering column issue, windshield wiper repair and the fuel gauge does not work. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is only $17,500.

By now our regular newsletter readers have heard us say it hundreds of times. "If you find a first generation Ford Thunderbird for under $30,000, you should buy it." As long as the car is original and mechanically sound and has a minumum of problems that slogan still holds true today. Here is a 1955 Ford Thunderbird being offered for sale this week by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. They specialize in finding classic cars that have been in storage and forgotten. This one is finished in its factory Snowshoe White color code with a tuxedo black interior. It comes with a removable hardtop, rear fender skirts, and white line tires. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Memorial Day if it lasts that long. The asking price is $27, 500.

Here is the "sleeper" DEAL of the week. A 1936 Ford Vicky street rod is being offered for sle by a private seller in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. Although it is a fiberglass body, it has a real '33 title, not a rebuilt title. The seller says it drives and handles almost like it was new. It has a 350 crate engine, newer Edelbrock 4-barrel, 350 Turbo tranny, 9" rear end, steel hood, parts by Downs bodies, Mustang II front end w/disc brakes. The tutone interior was done in 2013, and comes with newer wheels and tires, all tinted glass, suicide doors w/door locks poppers. The seller says you can drive this street rod anywhere. It will be our DELA of the DAY on Tuesday. The asking price is $27,000. This is a turnkey car at a starter car price.

Here is a very desirable 1949 Ford F1 Pickup which seems to be in mostly original condition. You should have it inspected to know more about the vehicle. The ad description does not say anything about the condition. It is another offering from Haggle Me.com, an internet broker selling this classic truck for their private party client. They say it has an original rebuilt 6 cylinder motor with a manual transmission. Theys say it has a wood bed, wide whitewall tires and new brakes. They remark that it is a complete half-ton truck, everything there. Would it be a good base truck for a custom project? It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $19,500.

Haggle Me.com also listed this 1963 Chevy Corvair Convertible for sale this week. It comes with a Flat 6 Corvair motor with automatic transmission. They say the brakes are all new with steel brake lines and new exhaust and tires. The description does not include any information about the condition or drivability of this car. As always, a buyer should have it inspected before they buy to get a full report on its condition. That will always determine the value. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. It's price point is in what we consider the "affordable range." They are asking $12,995.

In my opinion, the last real Corvette was the 1982 Corvette Stingray. That was the body style I knew when I was growing up and still holds that magic for me today. Mershons, the famous Corvette dealer in Springfield, Ohio just listed a 1982 Corvette in Code 70 red with black glass tops. Beautiful combination. It has the 5.7L Crossfire V8 with an automatic transmission. Features include factory air conditioning, cruise control, drivers side power seat, tilt column, power windows, power locks, power steering, power brakes, factory air pump, and much more!
