When Ford was trying to absorb all the public attention for their new Mustang, its Mercury cousin was poised to spoil the party with its new Comet Cyclone in 1964. Mercury was very successful in racing at the time and the front office at Ford Motor Company was spending all their advertising dollars on the Mustangs and the Fairlanes. By their edict, only the Mustang and the Fairlane would have the K Code High Performance engine, their solid lifter 289 with 271 horsepower. They relegated Mercury's new Cyclone to have only the D Code 289 rated at 210 horsepower. But Mercury engineers found a way around the ban by using a 4100 Autolite 600 cfm 4-barrel carburetor on their version of the 289. Somehow they got Ford to okay the workaround, and even were able to call it a K Code (although it did not have the solid lifters.) With all of the marketing budget that year spent on the Mustang, the fledgling Mercury Cyclone ended up outselling the K Code Fairlanes anyway. Mercury's unknown muscle car, the "Super 289 Cyclone" was the best kept secret out there. Racers found out about it by word of mouth. In the hands of the right veteran drag racer, the '64 Cyclone could recognize its potential.
There is a full story on the premier of the 1964 Mercury Cyclone on our MyDreamCar.online blog page today. That is important because Coyote Classics, one of our COL classic car dealers, advertised a rare 1964 Mercury K Code Cyclone this week. You have to read this article. It will amaze you how rare these first-year edition Cyclones are today. You will also get a chance to view a well produced walk-around video with a test drive. They say this car has been preserved with low miles and remains very original.

We hope you were able to follow the muscle car action with us at the Raleigh Classic Spring Auction last weekend. It was an amzing sale. The 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 Convertible you see here went for $282,500 at the hammer (before auction fees and commissions.) That should be a record for 442 W-30s. But it was just one of over 20 such Olds 442s and Buick Gran Sports in the sale. The recent Raleigh Classic Auction will go down in history as one of the most significant muscle car sales ever. You may click here to review our report on the Raleigh Classic Spring Auction in Youngsville, North Carolina last week.
The Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum is sponsoring what they call the ACD Driving Experience where their members can run three of the great mid-western race tracks. We hear that sports car enthusiasts are signing up in droves for this chance to run their cars on the tracks at Grattan Raceway in Belding, Michigan on June 12-13, Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, Michigan on July 17-18, and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio on August 14-15. This is a fundraiser in which 100% of the net profit goes to support the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, a 501(c)(3) organization. Included in registration is lodging the night before, lunch at the track at each venue, and a full day of track time! Driving Experience tickets and registration are available online at www.acdamstore.com/collections/driving-experience

The Elite Marti Report says it is a one of one. Even for a rare Shelby Mustang muscle car that's saying a lot. Fast Lane Classic Cars in St Charles, Missouri tells us this Wimbledon White 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Convertible is one of only 518 Shelby Mustang convertibles produced that year. It comes with the 428 c.i. big block Cobra Jet V8 w/ 4-barrel carburetor, C6 automatic transmission, and a Ford 9” rearend w/ 3.91:1 Traction-Lok. The options include black power top, correct saddle bucket seat interior, power steering, power disc brakes, Tilt-Away steering wheel, AM radio, Interior Décor Group, Visibility Group, tachometer, shoulder harnesses and center console mounted gauges. This is the Shelby you are gonna' want.
This is impressive. A private party seller from Poughkeepsie, New York posted his 1967 Camaro RS/SS L78 396/375 hp dream machine for sale this week. The private party seller tells us it has a matching numbers total drivetrain and was restored to original condition. The seller says there was never any rust in the body panels, floors or trunk. He says it has the 396 solid lifter motor and Muncie M-20 4-speed transmission with a 12 bolt rear, all original to the car. In 1967, the L 78 camaro was a special ordered Camaro. So it is a rare one to find today.
Legendary Motorcar Company is one of the top restoration facilities in the world. They are also one of our COL Dealer Network classic car dealers featuring some of the top collector cars for sale on our website. So it was no surprise this week when LMC listed a 1964 Shelby 289 Cobra for sale. Yes. That's right a real Shelby Cobra (not a replica.) This is a desirable late-production series model with rack-n-pinion steering, factory chrome wire wheels and shown here in Princess Blue finish with a black interior. LMC tells us this particular little Cobra was restored in their shop. Their attention to detail and expertise with Shelby Cobras should not be overlooked.
When you watch this video, you'll want to experience the look and feel of this classic 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner. And this one will not disappoint. That's because it comes with an LS fuel injected engine and a Heidts front end. Everything about this car is new. Wait till you see this video produced by Coyote Classics in Greene, Iowa. They did a great job of showing what resto mod means.

Our newsletter readers have heard our theory on first generation Ford Thunderbirds often over the course of the last 25 years. It goes like this: "If you can find a one for under $30,000 ... buy it." Prices have been coming down in recent years, but our motto still stands. So here is a Thunderbird Bronze 1957 Ford Thunderbird with a continental kit. It is being offered for sale at Beverely Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, one of the COL Dealer Network sites. They say it is a driver class car which is mechanically sound. So it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is only $26,500.
Here is a rare one. And we are excited to see it offered at such a good price. It is a 1949 Studebaker Champion Convertible, offered for sale by a private party owner from Concord, New Hampshire. The seller says it is in good condition including the 3-on-a-tree transmission w/ overdrive. He says he has put a lot of money in it recently updating engine and bodywork. He says it has new clutch and brake lines, and the electric top is in good condition. We don't see these that often coming up for sale ... and never at this price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday because the askiing price is $17,500. Call to have it inspected. But, hurry!
We were interested to see this 1939 Dodge 4-Door Sedan being listed for sale this week. It really looks good in the photos. (Of course, you can only really tell when you see it up close via an inspection report.) The private party seller from North Bangor, New York says it runs and drives great. It is an older restoration with what the seller terms "nice chrome and good paint." He says it has the original 6 cylinder engine, 3-speed manual transmission and 6 volt electrical system. "Very clean restored interior. Clean title." Find out what it looks like in the ad photos at the link. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The price is $10,950.
We love our old school hot rods, don't we? Here is a 1949 Chevrolet Bel Air Custom with impressive flames. The Pennsylvania owner says it comes with a Nova front sub frame, power front disc brakes, power steering, tilt wheel, and very nice leather interior. He says it is a daily driver so it has a Nova posi rear end, aftermarket gauges and he says everything is working including heat. This one comes with a mild built 350 with a turbo 350 trans. He says the car is " turn key, drive anywhere." His words. That is a lotta' car for the money. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. The asking price is only $11,995.
Old 1960's pickup trucks are looking better and better to collectors everyday. All the memories that they hold for us baby boomers ... they are so popular, yet many have to be resto modded to save them. This 1966 Ford F100 Pickup is being offered for sale by Classic Car Liquidators in Sherman, Texas. They say it has been redone nicely, keeping the original look. But it now has a 4.6 liter DOHC V8 engine, with the chassis and drivetrain from a Crown Victoria. All Ford. It comes with Crown Victoria chassis and dash, Mustang bucket seats, power steering, power brakes, dual exhaust, and a raised wood bed floor. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wedneday next week. The asking price is $19,999.
Big dually one-ton Chevrolet trucks never die. That's the motto of Chevrolet enthusiasts. These big trucks can be as rugged as any truck ever. Here is a 1974 Chevy C30 Dually Pickup for sale at Classic Car Liquidators in Sherman, Texas. You will have to have it inspected to know whether it is one of the "good ones." Classic Car Liquidators has a nack of finding great cars and trucks at great prices. So this one is worth having inspected. They say it has the 454 big block motor, power steering, front disc brakes, hydroboost braking system and much more. If you need some pulling power, this migh be your beast of burden. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is $14,999.
Once again Beverly Hills Car Club has come up with an iconic classic 1950's car at a great price. They posted this 1955 Buick Roadmaster for sale this week. It even comes with a copy of the original window sticker. The color is Condor Yellow with a Nile Green interior. Equipped with an automatic transmission, V8 engine, power steering, power windows, whitewall tires, Buick hub caps, jack, and a spare tire, they tell us it is very clean and presentable. They conclude that it is a mechanically sound American classic. Find out more by having it inspected. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $19,950.
