In its first year, the 1967 Camaro RS/SS L78 took the Pony car world by surprise. No one had ever put a big block motor in a Pony car before. With its muscle car power and Pony car handling, it gave Ford notice that big things were in the making.
Chevrolet felt it was under some pressure to come up with an answer to Ford's Mustang in the Pony car category. Yet, when it did launch its Chevrolet Camaro it was everything you could want in a race prepped muscle car. In its first year, 1967, it was offered in several trim packages and many engine combinations. But the most potent power plant was the L78 with its 396/375 hp big block motor. A big block Chevy engine in a Camara Pony car? You haven't lived until you have experienced that kind of power and handling.
The 1967 Camaro RS/SS L78 396/375 hp version you see here is said to have a complete matching numbers drivetrain. The private party seller from New York says it is all original with original body panels. It has the Muncie 4-speed and 12-bolt rear end.
The 1967 Camaro RS/SS L78 was pretty much purpose built for racing. They compare favorably with the Z/28's in collector value, but are so much more car than a Z/28. They only built 1,138 of them. The motor was produced by Chevrolet from 1965 until 1970. In 1967 it was the most powerful RPO engine available in the Chevrolet new car lineup. It was termed the Mark IV 6.5L and was called a Turbo-Jet. What made it different was that it had a solid-lifter camshaft.
In the collector car market, the L78's lag behind the Z/28 Camaros slightly in value. But we think that very original and high quality cars like this one will make up that gap as time goes on.

The upcoming Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, August 21, 2022, is an event that most car collectors will want to put on their bucket list. In the Cars-On-Line Car Show Calendar it is considered one of the most revered collector car events in the world. It draws about 200 of the most esteemed classic motorcars to compete for the Best of Show awards. Last year it raised over $2 million for local charities, providing extra funding for 100 local charitable organizations. A series of over 30 events and activities will be enjoyed during the week leading up to the Concours, including major collector car auctions in the Monterey area.

Chevy only built 224 non-Yenko 427 Chevelles. About 17 went to Canada. This 1969 COPO Chevelle 427 is one of them, says the private party owner from Lothian, Maryland. And it has the special Monaco Orange paint code. You can inspect the engine and transmission VIN numbers and date codes. The rear end has the correct casting and date codes, he says. Because it is one of the Canadian COPO's, it has GM Canada documents and an original build sheet. It also has been certified by the COPO Connection. The seller says the body is "perfect" and it remains in "very nice overall condition."
A rare 1949 Triumph 2000 Roadster was listed for sale this week by Carroll Street Auto in Manchester, New Hampshire. This gentleman's roadster had a unique feature with a rear "dickey" seat which had its own windshield. They tell us a restoration was done in the 1990's, and still looks fresh today. It has the restoration receipts and a complete tool kit that comes with the car. They describe the paint as being a Pearlescent Cream complemented by a tan convertible top. The undercarriage is clean as well. Check out the photos at the link above.
The evolution of the Ford Thunderbird is an interesting study. Starting as a two seater type sports car it evolved into a medium sized luxury car for the family man. But in 1962 Ford produced a two-seater styling for the Thunderbird harkening back to its roots. It was the 1962 Ford Thunderbird Sports Roadster such as the one you see pictured here. This one is being offered for sale at Classic Car Liquidators in Sherman, Texas. Note the tonneau cover which fit over the back seat to produce a look as though it were a two-seater. These cars are rare today, and very collectible.
Earl tells us there is a powerful big block V8 engine at work in this 1969 Chevelle 468. He says it's connected to a 4-speed manual transmission with upgraded headers and Hurst shifter. Other features include an easy start 4-bbl carburetor, chrome air filter, good exterior paint, and a GM 12-bolt posi. MGM Classic Cars listed this one out of Addison, Illinois. When a 1967 Pontiac Firebird Pro Street was listed on Cars-On-Line recently we noticed it was a very nice looking race car/muscle car. And it has all the right equipment (read the ad copy.) It has a Butler built 467 ci stroker engine with Pro System Dominator carb for E-85 fuel. Take a look at the video in the ad. Originally this car was offered for $60,000. Full size Ford Broncos from the 1970's through 1990's are in high demand in the collector car market right now. This 1989 Ford Bronco is being advertised by Classic Car Liquidators out of Sherman, Texas this week. The price point is significant because these Sport Utilities have been trending upward in value at national auctions. You will note in the ad description that they say it has only 28k miles. You would have to know if you could bring it up to show quality to get top dollar for it. Right now it is in driver quality condition. Have it inspected to see how it drives down the road, and get a feel for how the mechanicals are. But the price is attractive. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is $17,999.
No other car in the world carries with it the provenance of a Ford Model A. We are told there are even Ford Model A clubs in the United Kingdom. Now there is no short supply of these durable vintage cars, but they have been selling for more money recently. That's why we were surprised to see this 1930 Ford Model A Tudor for sale this week offered by a seller from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. He says it has a rebuilt motor and transmission. And the leather interior is also new. But there is not much more information offered on this one. You will have to call him to fill in the blanks. You might also want to have a pre-purchase inspection on this one. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The price is awfully attractive at $13,000.
Starting in 1955 Chrysler designated the Imperial as its own brand. Although the Imperial name had often been considered the top-of-the-line at Chrysler, it was in 1955 that they dropped the Chrysler name and just called it an Imperial, creating a new line. It had the Virgil Exner styling and was a deluxe luxury car, even getting rear air conditioning and the 331 ci Hemi motor. This 1955 Imperial Sedan is being offered for sale through Cody's Classic Cars out of Stanley, Wisconsin. They say it runs and drives real well. They say there are some TLC issues you might want to consider, i.e. air needs servicing, speedometer inop, horn inop, etc. But the price point is significant. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday because the asking price is only $14,900.
Although the Studebaker was considered a little eccentric back in the day by the average buyer, their charm as collector cars should not be overlooked. This 1951 Studebaker Champion Deluxe will make any collector smile. It has undergone a complete restoration to its original condition. That is rare today because so many Studebakers get modified. The seller is from Overland Park, Kansas. He says all the work invoices and receipts will go with the sale. It looks really clean in the photos. Be sure to follow the link to view the photos and find the contact information. You'll want to call for more info. But hurry! This one is priced right at $12,500.
Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles has come up with a sharp looking 1955 Oldsmobile Super 88 sedan for sale this week.It still has its factory black color with a gray interior and coachwork by Fisher. Equipped with an automatic transmission, it has V8 power and comes with power steering, two-spoke steering wheel, chrome bumpers, sun visors, B.F. Goodrich Silvertown whitewall tires and Oldsmobile branded hub caps. They call it "an extremely gorgeous postwar American classic." They also say it is mechanically sound. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $12,750.
Cody's Classic Cars out of Stanlley, Wisconsin also listed a 1954 Pontiac Chieftain for sale this week. They say this car was originally built at the Kansas City plant and lived in Nebraska. It now has a transplanted 350 ci small block and a TH400 automatic transmission. It has also had a 12-volt conversion. You can see photos of the interior in the ad. They say it has had over $7,000 in services over the past year-and-a-half. Most important, they say the paint looks good with a Mint Green repaint and custom paint for the roof. It has a dual exhaust which they say "sounds great." This might be the mid-50's cruiser you've been looking to take to the local car show. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is $14,900.
The 1966 Cadillac DeVille Convertible has that premium styling that is iconic to Cadillacs. With that long luxurious sweep to the side panels it says quality all the way back to the finns. This one is being offered for sale at Streetside Classics in Phoenix, Arizona. They tell us it comes with a power front seat, power locks, power windows, power convertible top, plenty of passenger space and air conditioning (although it currently needs servicing.) It has what it takes to be a swell cruiser, and the price is right also. It has an NOM 350 engine and TH400 automatic transmission. Check out the photos and consider having it inspected. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $19,995.
