The 1954 Dodge Royal 500 Convertible came along at that pivotal time in automotive history when Dodge was crossing over from its post-war lethargy into a performance car era that would change the world. In fact, there are those who would call the Royal 500 Pace Car, the first muscle car.
When the new Dodge Royal was chosen to pace the Indianapolis 500 for 1954, Virgil Exner, a fresh new talent in the styling department, pulled out all the stops. Dodge had never paced the 500 race before. And Dodge wanted the world to know they were changing their image. The 1954 Dodge Royal 500 Convertible was going to be a marketing coup with the whole world watching. The 1954 Pace Car edition was finished in a special color, Pace Car yellow with Jewel black trim and a black convertible top. Everything about the Dodge Royal seemed to be fresh and new.
This week a 1954 Dodge Royal 500 Convertible pace car edition was offered for sale for the first time by a collector from Oregon. Take a good look at the photos in this ad. The condition is amazing when you consider that the owner says it is "unrestored" and "original." Updates include authentic mechanical refurbishings, such as a rebuilt transmission, rebuilt carburetor, rebuilt starter, and a new top. Even the clock was refurbished.
There were so many "firsts" for Dodge built into this car. You can read about all of them in our special history of the 1954 Dodge Royal 500 Convertible today on the MyDreamCar.online blog page. Get more statistics and data. Discover all the "firsts" for Dodge as it grew its performance reputation.

Here is a new idea that Cars-On-Line readers will want to know about. We read about it in Vince Taliano's Caddie Chronicle this week. He had a post on the Cadillac & LaSalle Club Virtual Gran National for 2021. The judged show will be held virtually, meaning that everyone can enjoy it online. It will only exist on the internet. Cadillac & LaSalle Club owners may upload their Cadillac or LaSalle photos to their website. Find more info at their website, https://www.cadillaclasalleclub.org. Submit your photos by September 15. The judging will be open to anyone who wants to browse the "virtual car show" and vote. The Best of Show winner receives $250, a first in class is worth $50.

They estimate that over 500 classic and specialty cars and trucks will cross the auction block at the Auburn Auction Park hosted by RM Auctions. Find out how to watch their live stream video when you read our special Fall Auburn Auction blog story here. We have a preview of some of the top cars that will cross the auction block on Saturday. Check this page often during the weekend to find out what these cars are selling for. In Rockford, Illinois there remains a 1963 Ford Galaxie R Code 427 muscle car in unrestored condition. This find is a happy opportunity for the right buyer. Look at the photos closely. You might wan to have it inspected before you buy. It looks really good in the photos. The seller says the Raven black Galaxie is a 427 dual quad with a 4-speed. By the description is sounds like is could be everything you could want in a desirable muscle car. The seller says it has "all the right stuff." If this one was fully restored, what do you think it would sell for?
Cars-On-Line readers will be thrilled to know that a very interesting collector car dealer has joined our Dealer Network. They have some amazing choice offerings in their inventory. Please welcome Motor Classic & Competition Corp out of Bedord Hills, New York (north of the city) through the Saw Mill Parkway. They specialize in road and racing Ferraris and major European marques as well as American sports cars. Today they have listed a stunning 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France with matching numbers and the Ferrari Classiche certification. They tell us only 77 Tour de France editions were ever built. " It has Pebble Beach quality paint, bodywork and interior," they tell us. You will want to spend some quality time looking through these photos. It is a good example of the type of classic and exotic treasure you will find at Motor Classic & Competition Corp. Watch for more of their offerings in the new listings below.
A 1966 Dodge Hemi Coronet A/FX Super Stock car was listed for sale here this week. The private party seller from Dobbs Ferry, New York says it is a 472 ci Hemi motor with a Cross Ram. It has custom headers, custom exhaust to the rear end w/cutouts and mufflers, a Torqueflite automatic transmission, gear drive, 410 Dana, and a super stock style interior. It's best quarter-mile run was a 10.80. The car was signed by Lee Smith, a legendary Mopar racer. You may have seen it featured in many magazines over the years. This old race car is being offered for sale at a very affordable price.
If you have followed the collector car hobby at any time during the past 40 years, you know that the Fall Carlisle Collector Car Flea Market, Car Corral and Auction is one of the most “talked about” events in America. This week we are previewing some of the cars they have lined up for this year's Fall Carlisle Auction, Sept 30-Oct 1, 2021.
It is no surprise that there are already a number of choice muscle cars in the auction inventory for this month's Fall Carlisle Auction in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. This 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Fastback is one of the early entries in the auction. The seller says it has only 39k actual miles. It comes with a 428 CJ engine. The same owner has had it for 33 years. It received a total nut and bolt restoration leaving the interior, headliner and carpet original. It has factory air and power brakes. Click the link to view more photos.
It is America's car. An Ivory 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible with a white top will be offered for sale at the Fall Carlisle Auction, Sept 30-Oct 1. It is an example of the original classic 1950's cars you will find in the auction inventory. It comes with a power top and the legendary Power Pack option with a 4-barrel carburetor. The consigner says it is numbers matching, as the motor and transmission have been rebuilt. He says he has owned the car for 50 years. The restoration was a frame-off.
Here is an unusual find. Someone has replicated a 1968 Yenko Camaro 427. It is just as Don Yenko's shop would have done it in 1968. It is a great reminder of the Supercars that launched so many dreams back then. Considered to be an authentic recreation, they say they used all original NOS parts in the restoration. It is powered by a 427 engine w/450+ horsepower, and a 4-speed Muncie transmission. It uses authentic and correct Yenko badges, and authentic SW tachometer and gauges.
The Fall Carlisle Auction is one auction where you can find lots of trucks, both original and custom. This 1988 Chevy C1500 Custom Pickup for show, street or strip is an excellent example. It has a 383 stroker ($25k in engine & Procharger), and a Tremec 6-speed transmission with 4-way adjustable shocks. It has been back-halved, and is said to create 650 bhp. It has Budnick custom wheels and 3-inch exhaust. It will be one of the featured trucks at the sale. Be sure to read about the All-Truck Hour feature sale on Thursday, Sept 30.
You can get more information on how to register to bid online or by phone by following this link to the Fall Carlisle Auction website.
When Showdown Auto out of Clinton Township, Michigan listed this 1995 Mustang GT Speedster for sale they did a smart thing. They included this walk-around video as a unique way to communicate with their potential buyers. This is no factory Mustang, this one has been hot rodded. Just listen to that engine rumble! 336 ci aluminum head small block, 4-wheel disc brakes, 3500 stall converter, 3.73 gear and 17-inch chrome ten-spoke wheels. This is the one you want. Click the video window to get the full story narrated by Showdown.

We are not sure where Plymouth Hemi Cuda prices will rise to but it seems a pretty sure bet they will go up again this year. But what will happen to the prices on Hemi Cuda tributes? Here is a 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible tribute that is priced at a quarter of the value of a real Hemi convertible. (Of course, they only made 17 actual Hemi Cuda convertibles in '71.) This is a private seller in Massachusetts.
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:
1967 Eleanor Mustang GT500, Collectible Motorcar of Atlanta, GA, Shelby tribute

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line homepage. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the homepage!
Many muscle car collectors in the U.S. are unaware of GM muscle cars that were produced in Canada. For instance, Pontiac produced a car in Canada that was identical to Chevrolet's Chevelle. Pontiac called it a Beaumont. This week a 1967 Pontiac Beaumont was listed by a collector in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We suspect it is more of a project than most of our DEALs of the DAY, but it is so rare to find that we see it as our featured DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. It has a 400 small block, automatic transmission and bucket seats. That looks like it has an SD hood. Check it out. The seller says it runs and drives fine. The asking price is only $10,500. Hurry on this one!
Collectible Motorcar of Atlanta just got in this 1927 Ford Roadster with the Red, White and Blue paint theme. That modern paint job makes the flag look like its waving. Look at the funnel ram that feds the small block 350 V8. The 350 is built and the long tube headers are what you need to make the sound you want. This custom Roadster looks unique because it's set way back from the front wheels. The black headlights are like lone dual pods hovering above the front axle. Doesn't it look like a Top Fuel dragster from this angle? And you can drive it on the street. Wild!! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday because the asking price is only $18,500.
The private party seller says this 1941 Plymouth Businessman's Coupe runs and drives like a Cadillac. The seller is from Spring City, Utah. He says the lights have stopped working on this beauty, and he can't seem to find the problem. That paint is cracking in spots also. He says you probably should have it inspected to get a professional opinion of its condition class. He is not a mechanic himself so he is selling the car, looking for someone who could fix these minor problems. This may be your chance to get into the hobby, or flip it for a profit. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday if it lasts that long. The asking price is only $14,000.
Thought you would never have a chance to own an Aston Martin exotic supercar at a reasonable price? Well get your James Bond on and take a look at this 1997 Aston Martin DB7 from Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, California. They say it only has 28,373 miles on the odometer and is available in Chiltern Green with a parchment interior. The Aston comes equipped with an automatic transmission, air conditioning, power windows (will need to be serviced), power steering, power seats and 4-wheel disc brakes. They say it is an excellent California car that is "mechanically sound." It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday if it lasts that long. The asking price is $24,750.
When we categorize cars for this newsletter we would label this 1994 Pontiac Trans Am 25th Anniversary Edition as a "Future Collectible." The special edition Trans Am was produced by Pontiac to commemorate the Trans Am's first 25 years. It established the Trans Am as one of America's most popular sports cars. This one is being offered by a private seller from Franklinville, New Jersey. He says it has 88k original miles. T-tops, and the 5.7-liter LT1 350 engine. He indicates that it was fully loaded when purchased new. He says all it needs is a buff. It will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week. The asking price is only $13,000. Hurry!
Springtime Yellow was the popular color for the 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible. They called it a "secretary's car," but the Mustang was the most popular sports car of its era, and popularized the Pony car category for Ford. Beverly Hills Car Club has listed this one for sale at such a good price point that we had to show it to you here. The vehicle comes equipped with an automatic transmission, inline-6 engine, center console, power steering, soft top, boot, steel wheels, and white line tires. They say it is "mechanically sound." It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is only $18,750.
Remember when Dodge made a factory produced convertible pickup truck? It seems so odd now but back then it was innovative. A private seller from Palestine, Texas has one of these for sale. It is a red 1989 Dodge Convertible Pickup with a factory roll bar and open air cockpit. Only 3,759 of these rare pickups were produced over a three-year period (1989-91.) The seller says the truck exhibits no rust, and comes with a clean title. "Everything works but A/C ( compressor does turn over.) All glass is good," he tells us. There are many updates noted in the ad copy. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $12,500.
