While the Lincoln Continental became one of the most esteemed production cars of its era, its early predecessor was the Lincoln-Zephyr, a mid-range priced offering bridging the price gap between the Ford Deluxe and the Lincoln Model K motorcars. After 1940, Lincoln dropped the big Lincoln K line and devoted its attention to the Art Deco era styling of the Lincoln-Zephyr. Following World War II, the Zephyr name was dropped as the design evolved into the Lincoln Continental.
This week, Streetside Classics in Tampa, Florida listed this extremely rare and desirable 1940 Lincoln-Zephyr Convertible Coupe for sale. They detail the history of this beautiful classic motorcar, touching on Edsel Ford's desire to impress his European friends with the dual waterfall grilles of the upscale Zephyr design. The Zephyr was hand crafted, so only about 700 of them were produced in 1940. It is not just that this beautiful motorcar is so rare, but the photos reveal how stunning it looks in its black paint with a canvas color top and red leather interior. The lowered stance and running board delete appearance was notable for the era. Streetside points out that with the "headlight surrounds, factory wheel covers, and all the trim, this is an artful total package. It even has all the right ornamentation like the whitewall tires, rear fender skirts, and exposed rear tire caddy that was so cleverly presented that it would become the Continental's namesake on other vehicles."
You have to see the photo of the big V12 flathead engine. Nearly twice the length of the Ford flathead V8, it dictated the long low look that the Zephyr created. "And you control its full force thanks to the three-speed all-synchromesh manual transmission," they point out. "There are even four-wheel hydraulic brakes to give you classic but confident stopping."
With a price way under $100,000, this is truly a remarkable find. At this price, a collector can be confident in his investment. This is one you have to check out.

Last weekend in Columbus, Ohio Goodguys crowned a 1941 Chevrolet Fleetline as their Street Rod of the Year. The car is owned by Wes Rydell who commissioned noted custom car builder Troy Trepanier to design and build his "dream car." You see, in 1941 Chevrolet only produced the A-body Fleetline in a 4-door version. Wes wanted to know what a 2-door version might have looked like. This is the only one in existence and comes with special one-off custom wheels that perfectly match the look and feel of the car. Wes was interviewed by Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos after winning the award. Click here to review the story and see a video of the interview with Wes Rydell. Rydell has won both a Ridler Award and an America's Most Beautiful Roadster award in previous years.
We hope you were able to follow our Iola Car Show updates on our blog page this past weekend. If not, here is a link to our report on the Iola Car Show and Swap Meet for 2021. It was great to be back in tiny Iola, Wisconsin for one of the biggest car shows in the country. We were happy to see so many old friends back again this year. Be sure to watch our videos to get a feel for what the Iola experience is like. This is definitely one worth putting on your bucket list.

Mopar muscle car alert! Collectors have to check this out. American Classics Auto Trader, in Pompano Beach, Florida, has listed this 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda for sale this week. They say it has a numbers matching 426 ci Hemi engine and 4-speed manual transmission. With Ralley gauges and the Super Track Pack option with 4.10 gears, it looks to be a nut and bolt restoration. It also comes with the shaker hood, Rimblow steering wheel and dog dish hubcaps. Because of the recent restoration, they describe it as "the nicest Hemi Cuda on the market." The ad copy says it comes with a broadcast sheet. What do you think they are asking for it?
Streetside Classics has another incredible offering this week. This one comes from their store in Ft Worth, Texas. They listed a rare Shadow Gray 1970 Chevelle SS LS6 454/450 hp Hardtop, the most desirable muscle car Chevrolet ever produced. You know there is some incredible pedigree here because it also comes with the M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed manual transmission. They say the LS6 454/450 hp motor is a 512 replacement which was done to period correct specs. They say the restoration was completed in 2019, and it comes with a build sheet. Upon inspection, you will note a functional cowl induction hood with the locking hood pins. In their description, Streetside tells us the restoration was done to a high standard.
The biggest classic car auction for July 2021 is coming up next week. It is the GAA Classic Summer Auction, July 22-24, 2021, in Greensboro, North Carolina. They anticipate over 650 classic and specialty vehicles will be for sale. You can still get registered to bid, even if you do not attend in person. Click here to register for a bidder number. Cars-On-Line readers will have the opportunity to stream the auction "Live" as the cars cross the block. Stay tuned to our newsletter for more information.
You will have the chance to bid on many desirable and affordable street rods. This 1941 Willys Coupe was just added to the auction inventory this week. It features a Heritage fiberglass body with a chrome grille and stainlesss, 1940 Ford headlights and 1939 taillights. It has a Ford 9-inch posi rear end with 355 gears. The 383 ci V8 crate engine engages a 700R automatic transmission. It stops via 4-wheel disc brakes and has an emergency brake. This may be your chance to own a Willys Coupe.
As always, there will be a wide selection of classic motorcars being offered for sale at the GAA Classic Summer Auction in Greensboro next week. This 1948 Cadillac Convertible was just added to the inventory. They say it came from Georgia. Black with a red leather interior, it has a dash clock, bench seat and V8 engine. You will note the chrome bumpers front and back. It really presents well in the photos. Cadillac collectors love the post-war styling with the upscale rear quarter panel styling and pop-up taillights with the hidden fuel filler.
Just last week, Cars-On-Line featured a Pontiac Catalina 2+2 Convertible in their newsletter. We noted how rare they are. This week, by some incredible synchronicity, a 1965 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 Convertible was added to the GAA Classic Summer Auction. Only this one has the addition of a 421 HO V8 performance motor with a Tripower carburetor setup. It doesn't get much better than that as far as Pontiac collectors are concerned. It has the 4-speed manual transmission, center console, dual exhaust and a push-button AM/FM radio.
Among the interesting exotic cars which will cross the auction block in Greensboro next week is a 1991 Ferrari Testarossa in Code 100 Bianco finish (like the one in the Miami Vice TV series.) It has been preserved in a private collection. It has the Ferrari flat 12 4.9L engine producing 390 horsepower at 6300 rpm, and a gated 5-speed manual transmission. These Testarossas are still affordable although you can see that the values are on the upswing. It is one of the more notable exotic super cars of the past two decades.

When the 1993 Corvette 40th Anniversary Convertible came out they called it the "Ruby Edition" and it was drenched in a glossy coat of Ruby Red paint with a matching Ruby cloth top. These cars were so well thought of that many collector types bought them and then tucked them away with no miles on them. That seems to be the case here. Motorcar Classics in Farmingdale, New York has this Ruby Edition with on 40 actual miles on it. That's right ... just 40 miles.

This 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible is being offered for sale by a private party seller from Ferndale, Washington. He considers it a driver quality car that needs very little. The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line homepage. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the homepage!
This is one of those cars that, admittedly, is going to sell so fast that unless you are one of the first ones to read today's DEALs of the DAY feature here in the newsletter, you may not have a chance at it. This is a blue 1968 Corvette Convertible being offered for sale by MGM Classic Cars in Addison, Illinois. It comes with a "numbers matching" L79 327 rated at 350 hp, 4-speed and a black convertible top with an auxiliary hardtop (both tops.) They tell us it "runs, drives and stops great." Now it should be disclaimed that this is a driver quality car, not a show car. We would disclaim that you should have it inspected before you buy, but you might want to just go there and inspect it yourself. Click here to view a very extensive walk-around video from MGM Classic Cars. It won't last long at this price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is only $26,514.
Our regular newsletter readers know we always say, "If you find a first generation Ford Thunderbird for under $30,000 ... buy it." That has been our mantra for the past twenty years. However, here is an interesting find. This 1956 Ford Thunderbird is being offered for sale at the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania this week. The disclaimer on this car is that it was a barn find and it shows some "has scratches, dents and dings, and surface rust showing through the paint in various areas. A Continental kit is on the rear, which shows some similar rust and paint chip off. Chrome and brite work are noteworthy in that they too have some early signs of rust, and dimpling." The sail panel area and the rocker panels are showing "invasive" rust. If you are the type of buyer that can handle the TLC that this one requires, this is the car for you. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $24,000.
Of all the classic Ford pickups, the 1941's are among the most desirable because there are so few of them around. They have that "teardrop" style headlight bezel and the "waterfall" grille, which make those years so distinctive. So here is a 1941 Ford Pickup being offered for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, California. They specialize in old classic vehicles that have been "lost in storage" over the years. It comes equipped with an automatic transmission, Chevrolet V8 engine, power steering, Edelbrock carburetor, chrome valve covers, Edelbrock intake manifold, Cragar wheels, and front-wheel disc brakes. You will want to have it inspected before you buy to find out what is going on with the running boards there. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday because the asking price is only $29,950. For the right buyer this is a good starter truck.
A private party seller from Shuniah, Ontario has a 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix J for sale this week. He says it is in excellent condition, all turnkey and read to cruise or show. You know that Pontiac collectors really like the early 1970's Grand Prix. The front end valance has that single headlight styling and big luxury car grille. This one has a 400 ci V8 with Turbo 400 automatic transmission. The seller says it is clean and rust free underneath. Notice the Riddler 17" wheels. It will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week. The asking price is affordable at $14,000.
An interesting muscle car find is available out of Connecticut this week. The private party seller is from Bethlehem, Connecticut. It should be noted up front that this is not an original 409 car, but a nice tribute. The 1964 Chevrolet Impala with the old school look and solid wheels is one of the best handling Chevrolets ever produced. It has a correct QB block 409 engine. The seller says he will disclose the numbers upon request. All told, he says it is a "Great looking, great sounding, great running head turner" type of car. He says he will put it up on a lift for a prospective buyer. This would be a great car to have inspected before you buy. Be sure to contact us about the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service. But hurry! The asking price is only $24,900.
Here is another great classic British sports car being offered for sale at Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. Although MG used the name "MIdget" as a model name many times in its history, the most recent MG Midget is a small two-seater sports car produced by MG from 1961 to 1979. Classic Auto Mall has a 1972 MG Midget for sale which they say has no rust, a newer interior, rebuilt transmission on a car that has had a red respray, including the black rock panels. They say the interior and engine compartment look good. But they disclose that the undercarriage may show some surface rust. You should have a full pre-purchase inspection done to determine the road worthiness of this car. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is only $14,900.
A Fort Myers, Florida man has been planning his restoration on this 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo. His purpose was to auto-cross the car. The car has 103,525 miles on it, the rebuilt engine has 7 miles on it! He says it has been garage kept for the past 20 years and remains rust free. Here is what he says it still needs: New Flywheel, New engine management system, Dyno Tuning. Fix manual door open cable, check switch wiring, install wiper return circuit (included), replace oil pan level sender. Install roll bar and harnesses. His family concerns have gotten him off the restoration. So he will sell it as is for an affordable price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY at the end of next week. The asking price is only $9,800.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
