The votes are all in and this year's CAR of the YEAR has been selected. The 2021 classic CAR of the YEAR is a 1970 Boss 429 Mustang which was listed for sale this year by Legendary Motorcar Company. Each year in our Cars-On-Line readers poll we ask our newsletter readers to select their favorite featured car. This year our readers selected the Calypso Coral Boss 9. Although the voting was hotly contested for the past month on our website, the Boss 9 pulled ahead in the last week garnering 14 percent of the vote.
Legendary Motorcar Company advertised the 1970 Boss 429 Mustang in one of the September editions of the Cars-On-Line newsletter. At that point in the year we were noticing that fewer and fewer of the Boss 9's were showing up in internet ads or at the big national auctions. Only high profile collector car dealers had them for sale, it seems. Our story on the Boss 9 indicated that they had become more valuable in the collector car market than Hemi Cudas. Legendary Motorcar Company told us they had completed a rotisserie restoration on this one. They noted that the engine bay shows correctly and is fully detailed with all the inspection chalk marks where they should be, plus tags and decals. Soon after it was seen in the Cars-On-Line newsletter, Legendary Motorcar Company marked it "SOLD." This was a very special find.
For most of the past month while the COL readers poll was being conducted, a 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda and the Boss 9 were trading places as No. 1 and No. 2 in the poll. But in the past week, the Boss 9 pulled ahead to stay. The Hemi Cuda collected 11 percent of the votes. But in the past two days, a 1961 Chevrolet Impala SS 409 came out of nowhere to take second place with 13 percent of the vote.
It was great fun watching how our readers voted this year. We hope you enjoyed your subscription to our newsletter. And if you thought this was fun, wait till you see what COL has in store for you in 2022. Happy New Year everyone!

January is upon us, and that means auction season has arrived. Not only are we about to see the big Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, but right after that we will be heading to Phoenix for Arizona Auction Week. There are five auctions we will be watching in the Greater Phoenix area. The biggest name is the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, the grandaddy of the American collector car auction. Along with the Barrett-Jackson Auction, there will be a Bonhams Auction, the Russo Steele Auction and the RM Sotheby's Auction at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix. One of the events we will be watching closely this year is the Worldwide Auctioneers' event at Singh Meadows. They have a great lineup. Check our Car Show Calendar now to get the dates and times for the events during Arizona Auction Week. If you can't get there, many of these events are televised or streamed live over the internet. Buckle up! This is gonna' be a great year for collector car values.

We have been noticing a number of advertisers are being contacted by scam buyers again recently, so we thought it might be time to remind our newsletter readers about the "How To Buy A Car Online" section of our website. We have published many articles that will help you to buy and sell a car online. If you read a few of these articles you will become a smarter shopper and seller. It is important to know how an internet transaction should work. What to do, what not to do. What to say. You will also find articles on how scammers might try to take advantage of your good nature. Scammers have a certain pattern to their method. Once you recognize the pattern you know how to protect yourself.
The two most important things you can do when you buy a car are:
1. Have it inspected to determine the condition class.
2. Have a Bill of Sale created that buyer and seller both sign.
Be sure to read the articles on Inspections and Bills of Sale. They are real important. Have a safe New Year.

Rare as frog hairs is what we always used to say. That's how rare it is to find a Ram Air IV GTO convertible. So it raised our eyebrows when we saw that a collection of rare muscle cars was being offered for sale at the GAA Classic Auction coming up February 24-26, 2022. This 1969 Pontiac GTO Ram Air IV Convertible will be on the auction docket. It is one of only 14 such cars ever produced. The consignor says it is one-of-one in this color combination and equipment. They say it has received a concours restoration and will be offered to the highest bidder come February. This will be "all the buzz" among Pontiac collectors. This prize collection will include more Ram Air IV examples. You will see some of them among the new listings this week seen below in the Pontiac Muscle Car selections.

We are seeing our share of highly desirable vintage Packards this year. This week, Ellingson Motorcars out of Rogers, Minnesota listed this 1938 Packard Rollston Eight All-Weather Panel Brougham for sale. They say it is a rare custom-bodied coach with all of the finest elements of luxury for its day. This one has coachwork by Rollston, a New York based coachbuilder. It was the first year for Packard and Rollston to work together. Of all of the Packard-Rollston Eights, the All-Weather Panel Brougham was the most expensive with an initial price of $5,100 which was more than 4 times more expensive than the least expensive Eight Business Coupe. It has the open chaffeur's compartment with a folding tonneau. Ellingson did an interesting video, quite a historical piece. Click here to view the video now.

Can't you almost hear the theme music from the James Bond movies as you view this 1966 Aston Martin DB6 (he drove a '64 DB5.) This is the era when Aston Martins were revered for their elegance and charm. Gullwing Motor Cars in Astoria, New York just posted this one for sale. They know their Aston Martins. They say it is a "presentable example which runs and drives." However it had been on display since 2008, and may need recommissioning to be a dependable show car again. It has a known history having been ordered as a left hand drive car for a Las Vegas journal publisher. The inline six is fed by triple SU carbs and mated to a 3-speed Borg Warner automatic transmission. Such an historic piece is hard to find these days.

A really nice 1999 Camaro Z28 is dressed in Pewter (Silver Metallic) paint with T-tops. It just looks so nice in the video. It was featured this week on the Cruisin Classics website. They show you the interior view with the T-tops. What a great sports car. You can imagine driving it with the tops open, with a little rumble from the 5.7L LS1 V8 and running it through all six gears. Click the video above and take a test drive.

Orlando Classic Cars in Orlando, Florida will be selling this 1982 Delorean DMC-12 to the highest bidder at the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Florida next weekend. They say the car only has 12,000 miles on it. Check out the photos of this amazing stainless steel body. It was to be America's sports car if hard times had not befallen the Delorean Motorcar Company. It could be said that they were born to be collector cars.

A Wisconsin collector had obtained this 1967 Chevy Nova out of Texas and planned to do a full restoration on it. He says it was rust free with original floor pans, fenders, doors and quarters. There are just a few minor things to finish. He has the complete interior and chrome to finish the car, he says. He has a "good running" 350 with an automatic transmission for the car. He says he's willing to sell it now for $18,500. Are you the one to finish it?

What a way to start off the New Year! Here's a potentially hot deal you can't afford to miss! It is a 1968 Oldsmobile 442 Holiday just posted for sale by a private party seller from Illinois. He says it has a numbers matching drivetrain, and has been painted its original color code G Willow Gold metallic. He says it is a very solid 442, and has an automatic transmission with shifter on the column, and drum brakes front and back. The car came with air conditioning, but he says it does not currently work. He has the parts, he says. The price is almost too good to be true, so make sure to have it inspected before you buy. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $19,000.

The Ford Model A replicas made by Harry Shay's company were built with authorization of the Ford Motor Company and sold through actual Ford dealerships. They were built from 1978 through 1982. Today these replicas are held in high esteem by Ford collectors for their authenticity. Here is a nice example of a 1980 Shay Model A Roadster with a rumble seat. It was just posted for sale by Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. You can have it inspected before you buy it. Just fill out the form on our website and an inspector will be contacted to get you a five-page report on this vehicle. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is only $15,500. This won't last long.

Haggle Me, an internet broker that helps collectors sell their vehicles, has a number of listings this week which might peak your interest. They are being offered at a discount to the average market price on such vehicles. For instance, they just posted this 1929 Ford Pickup in "driver quality" condition. This is not a show piece. According to Haggle Me, it is original and has the numbers matching engine, a stock 3-speed manual transmission and dual fender mounted spare tires. What's more, they say it runs and drives well. To us, the interesting thing is the price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price set at $18,900.

Mustang collectors have high regard for the early production Mustangs that came out in late 1964 for the 1965 production year. Although they were titled as 1965 models, Mustang collectors refer to them as "1964 1/2" Mustangs. Here is a 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible which was just posted through We Be Autos.com, an internet broker selling this car for their New York client. It is an F code with the 260 ci V8 motor, Skylight blue paint and an automatic transmission. They describe it as an unrestored original. They say everything is working as it should. You can view detailed photos at the link. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. Their asking price is $27,260, about $10,000 below what classic first-generation Mustang convertibles are selling for.

For the right buyer, this is a dream come true. Yes, a 1935 Ford Model 48 Sedan has been listed for sale by Haggle Me, the internet broker. The photos show a car that is fairly clean and original. For a lot of collectors it is just the right kind of survivor. They tell us it has the original Flathead V8 engine and a 3-speed manual transmission. Most important, they say it runs and drives. Some would consider it a project car so you should have it inspected before you buy. Look through the photos to make sure it is what you want. If it is as solid as the photos show, it might be a good candidate for a comprehensive restoration. One thing we know, the price is right. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is $14,900.

Here is a very popular collector car that needs a close look. This is a highly desirable 1966 Ford Thunderbird also being offered for sale by Haggle Me. While the interior looks very clean in the photos, the engine compartment and undercarriage will, at least, need some heavy detailing. But they say the car remains all original. It has the 390 ci V8 big block motor, new tires, all power windows, new vinyl top and they say it actually runs well. It would be smart to have it inspected before you buy, mostly to determine how it goes down the road. For the right buyer, it could be a money maker. Only a pre-purchase inspection will help you make that determination. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is $11,250.

The Pontiac Executive was a full sized luxury model which replaced the Star Chief line in 1967 and lasted until 1970. Here is a final year 1970 Pontiac Executive for sale through Classic Car Deals, an internet broker. They are selling it for their client in Texas. They say it is a nice, solid example, and a rare model with only 3,500 built. They consider it a project. The ad description says it "runs and drives great, almost no rust." But it has an electrical short which drains the battery. You would have to find the discontinuous short, likely in the wiring harnass. It also has a power steering leak. It could be an interesting project for someone who is a back yard mechanic. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $10,495.
