We are in Louisville, Kentucky this weekend for the NSRA Street Rod Nationals, August 5-8, 2021. They say it is the largest street rod and custom car show of its kind. We know it is a lotta' fun, and always full of surprises.
One of the most exciting parts of the show is the Builders Showcase in one of the show halls at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville. We spotted the 1946 Ford Coupe shown above. It is a great example of the innovative custom builds you'll find in this display. It was built by Aubrey Fullerton of Live Free Fabrication, Chicago, Illinois. She and her husband drove it to Louisville from Chicago. It is the best rendering of a custom 1946 Ford we have ever seen. There are 40 custom builders on display in the Builders Showcase. Click here to read our NSRA Street Rod Nationals report and view some of the cars the nation's top builders brought to Louisville. Be sure to bookmark this page and check back throughout the weekend as we update the photos and videos from the show.
On Friday, they will announce the Builder of the Year award winner here at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals. Then we will be watching for the Pro Pick, one of twelve specially chosen customs here at the show will be judged by the builders. On Sunday, we'll bring you photos from the Winners Circle, where they chose the car with the Best Paint, Best Mopar and more. Some lucky car show attendee will win the Giveway Car, a 1932 Ford Hi-Boy Street Rod Pickup, on Sunday when they pick ticket numbers out of a raffle barrel. Stay tuned for all of the excitement throughout the weekend.

One of the interesting stories we discovered here at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals this weekend actually involves our Cars-On-Line Car Show team. It has been so hard to contact the custom car builders in the Builders Showcase that the national press has been complaining about it in the press room. When our photo-journalist Bob Boberg did an interview with Zac Love, the owner of Love Kustoms, who built the 1932 Ford Coupe seen here, the National Street Rod Association photographers noted it and began following Bob around for story material. So our newsletter readers are getting the top stories from the Nationals here first. Click this link to review our reports from the NSRA Street Rod Nationals in real time so you get the good news first. Look for our interviews with custom builders this weekend.
We found an interesting "How-To" video on You Tube about making a 1957 Chevy 2-Door Hardtop out of a 4-Door Hardtop. What is fascinating is that Dan from DD Speed Shop was showing people how this is done. Click here to view the video now. It turns out he has a whole series of 30-minute videos on how to cut up '57 Chevy's to make them into 2-Doors, both Post cars and hardtops. While his bodywork is pretty crude, it does give you an education in how many fake 2-Door Hardtops there could be out there on the market, and how to spot them. This is must-see video. Thanks, Dan.

Patrick Krook of REV Muscle Cars tells us this 1957 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe is as close as you can get to a No. 1 condition show car. The resto mod custom has an LS2 Corvette motor rated at 450 hp mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Couched in leather comfort, the interior is enhanced with arctic cold air, a sweet sound system and Dakota Digital dash. With only 500 miles since its body-off restoration, this '57 Chevy recently won the Award of Excellence during the York, Pennsylvania Goodguys car show. Click this link to view a detailed video walk-around and hear the roar of ceramic coated Hooker headers expelling spent exhaust through stainless steel. Perfection is not for everyone. Is it for you?
When this 1967 Chevelle SS Pro Touring car appeared at SEMA in 2011 it had over 4,000 hours in the build. It was built by OCD Customs in Washington. A true 138 VIN Chevelle SS, it now has a monster 572 ci Big Block Chevy backed up by a 5-speed Tremec manual. The clean-shaved body sits on an Art Morrison frame which spins nice 18-inch Boss wheels, and stops with Wilwood disc brakes all around. The bumpers were customized and tucked to reduce the body gaps with modified outer wheelhouses. Read the ad copy for all the custom mods and fabricated pieces. The look and stance is just perfect. It is being offered for sale by its private owner in North Carolina this week.
Steve and Harrison from Ideal Classic Cars give you valuable insights as to why this is the big block Corvette you might be interested in. Watch the video by clicking the video window above. This is a 1974 Corvette Convertible with a numbers matching LS4 454 ci V8 engine, Corvette yellow and a healthy sounding engine at that. Watch as they put it through the gears pulling rpms out of that big block QuadraJet. In the test drive at the end of the video the Corvette just seems to float through the gears.

In 1975 GM told the world that the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible would be the last Cadillac convertible produced in the U.S. At the time it did seem that liability issues surrounding convertible production was going to erase convertibles from the American scene. For several years they were as extinct as the dinasaur. People bought Eldorado convertibles and stored them away with no miles on them back then. Today some still exist with amazingly low miles. Here is a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible being sold by Motorcar Classics in Farmingdale, New York. They tell us it still has only 3,732 actual miles. That's like buying a brand new car when it is actually 45 years old. Now that's the collector car to own.
The following are more recently listed Low Miles cars:
1972 Chevy Nova, American Classics Auto Trader, FL, 24k miles

Beverly Hills Car Club listed a rare 1972 Lamborghini Jarama 400GT this week. This was one of the early Lamborghini models that are impossible to find today. Concept Carz lists the average value at $122,477. This one is a project in need of restoration, so the asking price is much lower. It could be a money maker if you are the right buyer and can restore it to its original glory.

When a cute little 1956 Nash Metropolitan Convertible was listed for sale by a private party seller in Morgantown, West Virginia, it was a pretty fresh restoration. They were asking $16,000. And that is not a bad price in itself. But just this week the seller contacted us and asked to reduce the price down to $12,000. Now that's what I'm talkin' about. It should probably be our DEAL of the DAY this week. Dont' wait too long to call on this one.

Starting out as a 6 cylinder California Mustang convertible, the build into a 1970 Shelby GT500 Convertible tribute happened in 2005. They sourced fiberglass panels from an original Shelby supplier and found a 428 Super Cobra Jet motor for the engine. It also has a 4-speed manual transmission. It comes from a large private collection. It is being offered for sale at Cody's Classic Cars in Stanley, Wisconsin.
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line homepage. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the homepage!
Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois is an interesting place. They usually have hundreds of collector cars for sale there in various states of condition. This week they discovered a barn find Corvette that looks to be very interesting. It is a 1970 Corvette with T-Tops and the incredible 350/350 hp motor. Now, this is not an original classic Corvette because it is obvious it was customized as an old school hot rod. You can see the side pipes and the taillight treatment was altered. It also has aluminum slot wheels. But it has a nice original interior, and they tell us the 350/350 motor is numbers matching. So there is some real value here. It will be our featured DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is only $16,850.
Here is an interesting find. A Tennessee private owner is selling a 1928 Ford Model A that looks good in the photos. It turns out that the Model A was in dry storage for 48 years before it was recovered and brought out. The seller says it now runs and drives and has the original trunk with new mats in it. Other new parts include, a 6 volt alternator and battery, leakless water pump, nickel plated tail light, stoneguard and extra new radiator shell with an original aluminum fan, rebuilt speedometer, gas guard, inside and outside mirrors and new turn signals. It has the zenith carburetor and distributor. The ad copy says there is no rust. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is only $11,000.
A collector from Auburn Hills, Michigan has an interesting neo classic 1978 Excalibur Series III Phaeton for sale this week. By the time Brooks Stevens came out with the Phaeton design for his classic looking Excalibur he was using a powerful Corvette 454 ci V8 motor. That is a lot of power for the elegant Mercedes 500 replica. We think the fictional character Jay Gatsby would have approved. The seller says the car has just 49,456 miles on it and affirms that the car has no body damage. These cars are more valuable in Europe than here in the U.S. A few years ago we saw one sell for over $100,000 in the U.K. But this one will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is only $18,000. Hurry!
Classic Mercury's from the 1940's are pretty rare. Here is a 1947 Mercury Eight Tudor Coupe with the impressive fat fendered body of that era. The private party seller is from St Paul, Minnesota. He says the Mercury 5-Window is nicely restored to original condition inside and out. It still has a 239 horsepower Flathead V8 engine. The color is Feather Grey with a Satin Grey interior. Notice the nice chrome plating as seen in the photo of the front end valance. This is automotive art at its finest. The seller says it is a "solid runner." It will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week. The asking price is $19,000.
Over thirty years ago already I had people telling me it was impossible to find a Buick LeSabre convertible for sale. (That was before there was an internet.) Even then they were rare beyond the norm. Today you just don't ever seen them. But, this week, a 1975 Buick LeSabre Convertible was listed for sale on the Cars-On-Line website. For Buick collectors, this is a stunning discovery. It has the 350 V8 engine, and an automatic transmission. The aftermarket wheels are custom to the car. You should have it inspected because the seller does not inicate the car's condition. But hurry! For the initiated, this is a rare find. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is only $14,500.
To a Mopar collector there was no better luxury car ever made than the Chrysler Newport. It was the heighth of modern luxury in its day. And this was an era when luxury was en vogue. This week, the good people at R&H Motor Car Group in Ohio have listed a 1961 Chrysler Newport with all the benchmark accutrements of a fine luxury car. More important, it is what they call a "survivor." That means it remains original as from the factory with 79,975 miles on the odometer. The color is Seafoam Green and it comes with a 361 ci V8 engine and push button automatic transmission. What a find. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week because the asking price is only $17, 990.
When you view this little 1951 Crosley Super Sport Hot Shot sports car, you may not realize that it was rated as one of the greatest sports cars of all time. Certainly it is the best of all microcars ever built. A Hot Shot won the Sam Collier Endurance Grand Prix at Sebring, as well as the SCCA's 12 Hours of Vero Beach. It dominated the 750 cc class in SCCA racing. It has a 44 ci 4 cylinder motor producing 26.5 horsepower and shifts through a 3-speed manual transmission with disc brakes all around. It runs on a dropped frame with 80-inch wheelbase. This would be the centerpiece of any microcar collection. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $17,500.
