In the company of Auburns and Duesenbergs, E.L. Cord produced his own namesake motorcar. It was steeped in the art deco age and so refined that it stood out from other cars of the era. Most Cord L-29 Cabriolets which exist here in the U.S. are known to collectors. It is not often that a fresh original L-29 Cord comes on the market.
An industrialist and car collector in France has posted a 1929 Cord L-29 Cabriolet for sale from his collection. (You will find the ad page here on Cars-On-Line.com.) He says it is time to "thin the herd." This is an unusual opportunity. Will it come back home to the U.S. or get snapped up by another collector from around the world? A broker in New York is handling the sale here in the U.S. Buyers should be aware of our recommendations in buying collector cars online. Read the "How To Buy A Classc Car Online" report before proceeding.
E.L. Cord was able to produce a truly unique American car. Not only was the 1929 Cord L-29 innovative, but it brought us famous automotive designers who are now synonymous with the art deco styling of the 1930's. The famous Al Leamy was involved with the look of the radiator grille and many styling tweaks. Cord bought the front-wheel-drive design from legendary race car builder, Harry Miller, while Cornelius Van Ranst adapted it to the Cord. An engineer named John Oswald guided the design of the body. As a result, the 137.5-inch-wheelbase L-29 was wonderfully long and low.
To find out more about E.L. Cord and his ingenious L-29, follow this link to our MyDreamCar.online blog. There you'll find more discussion of the first front-wheel-drive design and find production numbers on the L-29 Cord.

Have we forgotten? We are surprised to see so little mention of the 9/11 Attack in the news today. We thought it would be all over the airwaves. It has now been 19 years since the 9/11 Attack on America. It was on September 11, 2001 that 2,983 men, women and children died during coordinated attacks at the World Trade Center Twin Towers, the Pentagon and onboard Flight 93 which crashed in Pennsylvania. Heroes. The story of fire fighters and police running into the Twin Towers when the buildings were disintegrating around them. It still brings a tear to your eye. And it should. We pay a price for our freedom. Take a moment today to light a candle, and remember that our freedom is a light to the world. The U.S. is the one bright spot in the world where freedom stands up to corruption and darkness.
Funny thing happened when they cancelled the Shades of the Past Hot Rod Roundup in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee this month. Hundreds of cars are showing up anyway. We took this picture in Pigeon Forge near Dollywood (Dolly Pardon's famous resort.) The show, supposed to be this weekend, September 11-12, was cancelled. The show cars came anyway, and now they are making their own car show on the streets of Pigeon Forge. They say this scene goes on for miles. We suspect that many rodders are just arriving early for the Fall Pigeon Forge Rod Run, September 17-19, 2020 at The LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge next weekend. That one has not been cancelled. It is the biggest car show held in Pigeon Forge each year. And that's saying a lot since they have a lotta' car shows here.
Were you tuned in to our weekend report on the Fall Auburn Auction last week? If you missed it you may want to catch up on all the cars and prices. (Click here to review our auction report on the ClassiCarNews website.) The 1935 Auburn 8 Boattail Speedster you see here was the top sale, garnering $770,000 with sales commission included. The live sale was a whirlwind of activity. RM Auctions sold a spectacular 91 percent of all lots presented. The sale brought $17.6 million in total sales. It was the 50th Anniversary event at the Auburn Auction Park, and the results of their first "in-person" live auction this year were very satisfying. RM says there were over 500 cars that crossed the auction block during the three-day sale.
Earlier this week a Mopar collector from Georgia dropped the price on his 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible tribute. After a 2-year restoration, the car was just finished in August 2020. Mint and brand new. It didn't take long to sell it after the price change. He has already marked it SOLD.
Now the seller knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell on Cars-On-Line." For a look at all the cars that SOLD this week, follow this link to the SOLD Section below.

A collector brought his 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass SX Convertible to our office one day over a decade ago. I couldn't believe the performance of that 455 ci V8. It was like a 442 for a much lower price. They sometimes refer to them as the "Poor Man's 442." Oldsmobile wanted to sell their performance rated vehicles in lower price ranges. But the SX has remained somewhat of an enigma. Not much is written about them. This one is being offered for sale at Napoli Classics in Milford, Connecticut this week. According to Napoli Classics, there were only 793 produced. You could only get them with a Turbo 400 automatic transmission. This one has a Hurst dual-gate shifter on the console. Click here to watch a walk-around video.
The Tri-Five versions of Chevrolet's popular Cameo Carrier pickup are rare and hard to find. But it is even harder to find a 1958 Chevrolet Cameo Carrier Pickup with the big back window. You never see them anymore. Yet here is one from Auto Investors in Dothan, Alabama. We were surprised to see it listed. The reason you don't see them is because they only built about 1,400 of them in 1958. This one has been restored as a resto mod with a later model 350 small block Chevy motor, 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission and 10-bolt rear. It was built on a Malibu subframe with power disc brakes and air conditioning. Look at how nice and straight the body is on this old truck. Old is new again. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run.
The BMW Z8 was a special car made from 2000 till 2003. It is sometimes said that BMW conspired to make the greatest sports car of all time. The Z8 is often known as the "Ferrari killer" since it outperformed the Ferrari 360 Modena in at least three categories. The one you see here is a 2002 BMW Z8 being offered for sale to a very discrete buyer by Motorcar Classics in Farmingdale, New York. The exterior design of the Z8 was done by Henrik Fisker, who later designed his own exotic cars. It was meant to pay tribute to the treasured BMW 507 roadster. Only about 5,700 were ever built. The standard engne was the 4.9 liter mounted just in back of the front axle to create a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. It was designed with an all aluminum chassis and body. Every car was shipped with a matching hardtop with a rear defroster. Onlike most cars today, the Z8 continues to appreciate in value making them very collectible.
One of the most talked about auctions in America, the Fall Carlisle Auction, will be held October 1-2, 2020. This is an "In-Person" auction with live bidding, as well as phone and internet bidding. They are still taking consignments for the auction. This year, they have instituted a FREE UNLESS SOLD guarantee to consign your car to the auction. There is still time to consign. Just call (717) 960-6400 or visit www.CarlisleAuctions.com.
As the consignments begin to come in for the Fall Carlisle Auction, we are seeing a very interesting inventory of vintage classics buiding up for this sale. Some of these are so rare you may never have seen them before. This 1931 Cadillac Town Sedan is a 4-Door 5-passenger edition. It is an older restoration, and a complete car, with body by Fisher, Chassis No. 802279. Titled as a 1930, it actually is a 1931 Series 355A. It has the Cadillac 95 hp 353 ci Flathead V8. All the proceeds from this sale will go to support the AACA Musuem.
There are also a number of classic customs in the Fall Carlisle Auction next month. This House of Kolors Yellow 1941 Willys Resto Mod Coupe was recently and professionally built. They say no money was spared during the restoration, using an Outlaw chassis and body. It has the 502 Ramjet fuel injected big block motor backed by a TCI TH400 automatic transmission. The narrowed 9-inch rear end is called a Fab9 with 3.73 gears. It has Vintage air, 4-wheel Wilwood power disc brakes, power rack & pinion steering, Tubular control arms, coil over adjustable shocks at all 4 corners and Billett Specialty wheels. Just look at the custom leather interior in the photos.
More muscle cars were listed to the Fall Carlisle Auction inventory this week. This Grabber Blue 1970 Boss 302 Mustang is a star car in the muscle car lineup. They say it is a fresh restoration, with $125,000 invested in the build. They say it has the correct Boss 302 motor and a 4-speed transmission. You'll see pictures of the new black interior at the link here. It has the correct spare tire and jack. It comes with a Marti Report, and they say it runs and drives as it should. These Boss 302's are probably undervalued in the market compared to their imporance as historic muscle cars.
The Fall Carlisle Auction always has a wonderful selection of rare classic pickup trucks as well. For example, here is a 1970 Dodge D100 Pickup with sharp red paint on a short bed body. When is the last time you saw one of these? Look a the photos at the link. Those body lines are real crisp like the day it came off the assembly line. The photo of the undercarriage tells the whole story on this one. Have you ever seen an old truck this clean? Look at the bed. They say this truck has undergone a body off restoration. It has new 17-inch wheels and tires. Classic pickup trucks continue to be an important trend in the collector car market. They aren't gonna' make any more of these.

Carlisle Auctions offers a FREE UNLESS SOLD guarantee to those who consign, and its fees are some of the lowest in the auction industry. There’s even an all-Truck hour planned for Thursday, October 1. With three great ways to bid (phone, in person or online), Carlisle Auctions wants you to be part of the fun. Call 717-960-6400 or visit www.CarlisleAuctions.com to register to bid, consign to sell AND to review the COVID-19 Health Safety Measures enacted for the event.
Heaton Hot Rods in Joliet, Illinois has an interesting 1968 Chevelle SS Convertible in their sales inventory. We think the 1968 Chevelle body style is one of the most attractive in Super Sport trim. The convertibles are pretty rare, although this one will not be purchased for its originality. No, this one you want because of that monster 454 big block engine under the hood. Listen to the rumble of the lopey cam in this video. That says it all.

Think of how impressed other collectors will be when you pull up in this rare 1957 Pontiac Starchief Catalina 2-Dr Hardtop with all the classic 1950's trim. Yes, it is a rare one. What a rare find! It is a 1957 Packard Clipper Station Wagon just posted by the Jensen Dealerships in Iowa. Totally fits the "barn find" definition. This is a full on restoration, make no mistake. This takes a pro. Just look at the photos. They only made 869 Clipper Wagons in '57. They say the supercharger is included with the parts to complete.

This 1970 Chevelle Pro Street is a brand new build from the ground up. What a sensational car to find on the resale market. It has a pro built Shafiroff 598 ci ground pounding big block producing 1,000 hp. When it was orignally listed on Cars-On-Line the private seller was asking $90,000. But just this week he dropped the price to $79,999.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY section on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page!
Here is a nice opportunity to own a classic Corvette which has been restored and still has an affordable price tag. It is a 1974 Corvette Stingray Convertible with only 2,000 miles on it since the redo. The classic red Corvette convertible comes with power steering, power brakes, and the higher performance small block offered in 1974 (T-Code). In addition to the like-new soft top, the optional hard top is included with the sale. The hard top has been stripped and prepped but not painted. The private party seller from Virginia says you can turn the key and it starts and idles smoothly. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is only $20,000.
The 1967 Mustang convertible stands alone as one of the most desirable to own. Next to the first generation (1965-66 Mustangs) the '67 has a little different tweak in the body styling and is a more mature creation by Ford. It is the beginning of the muscle car era for the Mustang because this 1967 Mustang GT Convertible with the S Code 390 big block was available that year. The one you see here comes from Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, California. They tell us it has been sitting for many years waiting to be restored. It needs a new top and the body is rough. You should have it inspected before you buy, but the price is right. You can buy it now for $29,950.
An older gentleman from Fort Smith, Arkansas listed his cherished 1957 Chevrolet Pickup truck for sale this past week. He says it is rust free, a solid and fast truck. With a 350 small block Chevy engine and an automatic transmission with floor shift, it has been decked out with bucket seats, electric wipers, push button start, and a special diamond plate bed. See the photo. It still sits on the original straight axle frame, has manual brakes and steering. He notes that the speedometer and gas gauge are not working so there is something you can work on with this one. But he says it is driven daily and looks and sounds good!!! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is only $12,999.
Take a look at the photos of this 1951 Ford Business Coupe being offered for sale from Gilroy, California. It looks so sharp in the photos, this may be the real "sleeper" deal in today's DEALs of the DAY. The private seller tells us it comes with a 6 cylinder Flathed Ford engine with Three-On-A-Tree column shift, dual exhaust, a 12-volt conversion, auxiliary cooling fan and a new steering box. The seller says all the gaskets in the engine have been changed out and it has new brakes. You can see from the photos that the body and Sea Island Green paint are in really nice shape. He emphasizes the condition with an "excellent" rating. All chrome has been re-chromed, both inside and out, he says. It will be our DEAL of the DAY because his asking price is only $15,500. Great price!
Heaton Hot Rods out of Joliet, Illinois has an old school build that you need to see. The price is really right on this Red Pepper 1946 Ford Tudor Sedan with the pearled red finish. They say it has won many trophies for its build quality. Power comes from the 1953 Ford Flathead with dual carbs. It has the manual transmission on the column, a truly purist driving experience. The full custom leather interior is a hot rodders fantasy. And it has the right extras such as Baby spotlights, Lake pipes, and flipper hubcaps. It will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week because the asking price on this one is very affordable at $19,500. We think you'll agree this is a lotta' car for the money
There has been a little excitement over Edsel cars recently. It is almost like "synchronicity" that one shows up in our DEAL of the DAY this week. Here is a sharp looking 1959 Edsel Ranger 2-Door Hardtop being offered for sale at Classic & Collectible Cars of Las Vegas. This one came from an estate, and is described as an "older driver quality restoration which runs and drives very well." The 71,000 miles showing are stated to be original. With a solid body, it has a 292 ci V8 engine, an automatic transmission, AM radio, clock and wide whitewall tires. They tell us it has clean paint and interior. For an entry level classic this one is still affordable. It will be the DEAL of the DAY on the internet next week. The asking price is $15,500.
Our final DEAL of the DAY this week is a clean looking 1969 Dodge Window Van which was listed by Haggle Me, an internet classic car broker. They are right in calling this a "rare one." They say there is no rust on the underside of this van. We are surprised at how clean it is inside. They tell us it has a 340 Mopar engine from 1972. This built 340 is said to be worth $5,000 alone. The bench seat and a new custom exhaust system, new radiator, near rear end and new tires are among the main features. They say there is more that is new on this one. This is probably a good vehicle to have inspected before you buy. But hurry! The asking price on this one is very inexpensive by comparison. It is only $16,500.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
