As the craftsmen of Coventry practised their automotive art, Europe developed a taste for two-seater sports cars. There was a certain panache about a sporting gentleman finding the scintilating excitement of the open road. For a rare few of the gentry, the Jaguar brand held a status that evoked the racing spirit in everyman. The Jaguar XK's and XKE's are widely regarded as the most beautiful sports car designs in automotive history.
Yesterday, Classic Promenade in Phoenix, Arizona listed a rare 1952 Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster which has achieved AACA recognition. In the U.S. it was referred to as an Open Two Seater (OTS). This one has a known history. Classic Promenade tells us it is a "fantastic touring car with unbelievable performance." The last long-time owner was Don Schell, a well known car collector from Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed the car for the past 21 years, having bought it with 7,000 miles on the odometer at Hershey in 1998. It is now showing just 20,000 miles.
This XK120 has the “S” designation, with a higher lift cam and special equipment, including the iconic wire wheels. In the US we sometimes call it an M version for "modified." The higher lift cam is said to increase the output by 20 horsepower. This example has a later 3.8 liter engine installed, engine number LA 4129-9.
Wait till you hear the sound of the engine as it fires up. Be sure to ask Classic Promenade for a video clip so you can hear it. The throaty sound of a roaring Jaguar is everything you would expect it to be.

People are always asking us whether classic cars are selling during the Coronavirus economy. Look at the SOLDs Section of this newsletter below and feast your eyes on the answer. John, from Wichita, Kansas just called us yesterday and told us his 1941 Willys Gasser was on its way to New Zealand. Newsletter readers will remember when it was featured here in the newsletter. "You guys have a real good thing going there," he told us. "After all the years l've used your site, I still tell everyone with a street rod that this is the place to sell it." Thanks, John. You know we love it when our advertisers tells us about their sales.
We are encouraging buyers to use our COL Inspection Service rather than going out to inspect vehicles themselves. Our inspectors will do a pre-purchase inspection and appraisal of the car you want to buy. They will be able to give you a good idea of the condition classes on these cars. This is the safest way for you to buy collector cars for the next few weeks. Please, stay healthy out there.
The new 2020 C8 Corvette is set to pace the 2020 Indianapolis 500 Championship Race. That is a given. But which model and what color will this year's Indy Pace Car be? It seems that as the traditional Memorial Day race has been postponed until August 23, 2020 because of the Coronavirus scare, the big reveal on the 2020 Indy Pace Car has also been kept under wraps. That leaves it to our own imaginations as to what the Indy Pace Car will look like this year. We think it will be Arctic White with burgundy "Indy 500" decals. Anyone with any insider knowledge please let us know. The world awaits this important news. For those of you who must have an Indy 500 experience, NBC will be airing an Indy 500 Special: Back Home Again at 2 PM ET on Sunday.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page!
Here is one muscle car everybody should be checking out. A 1979 Pontiac Trans Am is being offered for sale by a private seller from Waterford, Connecticut. This is not a perfect car but just look at the price. He says it came from the factory loaded with an automatic transmission and a 6.6L 403 Oldsmobile engine and posi traction. He says it looks "okay" but was not a garage kept car. The 82k miles showing on the odometer cannot be verified. He says it has a good engine and transmission, and new carpet, door panels, and headliner. It has been repainted, but he says that this is not a show quality shine. He says you should come and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $8,500. Hurry!
Another interesting find was reported by Classic Car Deals, an internet broker in the U.S. They listed this 1958 Ford Thunderbird in our photo classifieds this week. They say it has a 352 ci V8 engine with automatic transmission and power seats and windows. It evidently has air conditioning (rare for a 1958) and they say it actually blows cold. They also say it is in "great condition." You should have this one inspected before you buy. The ad copy does not touch a lot of areas that you might want to know about. A pre-purchase inspection and appraisal by the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service would help to fill in the missing info. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday, though. The asking price is $16,000. Interesting price point.
This one will get your heart pumping a little bit. Wow! A Hummer for a price many would consider just "pocket change." Here is a 2006 Hummer H3, a premium sport utility vehicle in its day. It is being offered by Sovereign Auto Group, a Michigan wholesaler. They say it is rust free and comes from an Arizona climate. It has that dual zone automatic climate control, tubular runing boards, a center console, cruise control, tilt steering and keyless entry. This one has the roof rack, power windows, power door locks and more. You can call Sovereign to schedule a test drive. But, hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The price is only $8,988.
First generation Camaros are the hottest things in the muscle car spectrum these days. Every collector wants one. So here is a highly desirable 1967 Camaro RS at a very affordable price. It is being advertised for sale by Showdown Auto in Clinton Township, Michigan. They tell us it is a driver quality car with a solid body. In addition to the RS package, it has a 327 ci V8 with mild cam, Turbo 350 automatic transmission (rebuilt five years ago), HEI ignition, MSD discributor, headers, 10-bolt rear end, dual Flowmaster 2-chambered mufflers and Foose chrome wheels. They say the only visible rust they've found was on the lower rear quarters. They describe it as a 10-footer. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is $18,900. Hurry!
If yer' neck turns a bright shade of red in the sun, you're gonna' love this! Super Sport Classics in Largo, Florida is offering a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible for sale. Think about floating down the road in an big elegant Cadillac convertible. (They say COVID can't get you when you're in a Cadillac. That's scientific!) It has the 500 ci V8 with automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power top, and is fully loaded as a Cadillac should. It is finished in its original Georgian Silver metallic paint and a plush red interior with wood grain finishes. It was lovingly maintained by a Florida owner. You won't believe the price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $13,900.
If you are a true Chevrolet collector, this 1950 Chevrolet Fleetline is a charmer! The private seller from Bethlehem, Georgia says it is mostly original and is nearly perfect with great paint. He says ther are just a few bubbles on the lower, front passenger door. He also notes a small scrape on the passenger side fender skirt. There is no rust in the usual places, i.e. the trunk opening lips, rockers, sundeck. He figures it lived most of its life inside. He says it has new carpet, a 12-volt conversion with HEI, and recent interior. He notes that "all instruments work" and that it "drives like it did when new." He also notes the recent full brake job, and floor patch on the driver's side. Read the entire ad for more info. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $17,000.
Here is a sharp 1973 Corvette with T-tops from Unique Specialty & Classics in Makato, Minnesota. They say the paint in in driver quality condition with a good luster. The saddle brown vinyl bucket seat interior comes with factory air conditioning. The odometer reads 65k miles. They say that under the hoods comes a "numbers matching 350 V8 that is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission." It is equipped with power steering, power brakes and a radiio and wipers that work. Extra carpeting as well as T-top covers comes with. It rides on Rally wheels with "good rubber." They say the seats, carpeting and dash are all in good shape. They describe it as a "great running and driving Corvette." Click here to review an interesting walk-around video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. They are only askiing $18,900.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:

"Lots of calls! Very good experience. Man bought it sight unseen and was elated when the 1955 Chevy Bel Air arrived!"
"Buyer said it was easy to search for my car in California where he lived." Michael used our $45.00 Run Until Sold ad to sell his 1923 Ford T-Bucket.
"I thought I'd better tell you that my 1941 Willys Gasser is on its way to New Zealand," a Wichitas, Kansas seller told us. "I had calls from all over on this one. But the guy from New Zealand wired the money right into my account, no problem. He even invited me to come and see their car show there. He was a real nice guy. I enjoyed talking cars with him." Before he got off the phone with us he wanted to tell us how much he enjoyed Cars-On-Line. "You guys have a real good thing going there. After all the years l've used your site, I still tell everyone that has a street rod that this is the place to sell it."
