When Ford came out with the Mustang in late 1964, they saw it as a cute little secretary's six cylinder car. But Carroll Shelby had a completely different idea in mind. He took Ford's K Code HiPo 289 version of the little Pony car and turned it into the scurge of SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) sanctioned racing. While many teams raced the early first generation versions of the Shelby Mustang, Shelby American also sold street versions to sports car enthusiasts. By 1968 Ford saw the interest in Shelby muscle cars and took Shelby production in-house. That was the year they came out with the convertible edition of the Shelby muscle car. A select number of those 1968 Shelby convertibles had the "KR" designation, King of the Road. They are said to be Carroll Shelby's personal favorite Shelby Mustangs.
This week, a Dallas collector decided to offer his rare and desirable 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Convertible for sale here on the Cars-On-Line website. The concours quality T Code Candy Apple Red Shelby is heavily documented and comes with a known history. It was always well cared for and loved. In 2016, a "careful, survivor type restoration" was meticulously planned and executed to bring this car to a standard that the owner demanded. It was done with the guidance of top quality concours craftsman.
This is a factory air Shelby which was sold new at Bill Watkins Ford in Scottsdale, Arizona. It has the 428 Cobra Jet engine with a C6 automatic transmission. It had shown up at SAAC events in the 1980's and was featured in magazine articles back then. In 2019, it won Best Shelby at the Ford Southern Nationals. It gets you invited to many events.
Click here to read a detailed history written by the current owner. He has included dozens of detailed photos including shots of the undercarriage. This is the one you've always dreamed of.

Linked above are the New Listings and Price Changes pages. These pages are updated regularly to include every addition to the Cars On Line.com Collector Car Market.
We are seeing anecdotal evidence that the Off-Roading hobby is really picking up. That may be because of so many people want to get out in the rough country to get away from the city and the pandemic. Look at the Off-Road Section of this newsletter below to catch up on what is happening and what kind of vehicles you can buy today. Classic Toyota Landcruiser FJ40's and Ford Broncos are hot. Watch our New Listings this week. We think we will be getting in many more of these Off-Roadin hobby trucks. Next week we will have a feature video done by Nitto tires about the Off-Roadin' hobby.
You will notice it was only a few weeks ago that this 1962 Pontiac Catalina was featured here in the Cars-On-Line newsletter when it was a new listing. Well this week the seller notified us it was SOLD. "Fast and easy," was the way Tim described the sale, after marking his 1962 Pontiac Catalina Ventura SOLD using our $45.00 Run Until Sold ad. Oh, do we like it when our advertisers tell us about these quick sales.
What Coronavirus? Things seem pretty normal in the collector car market these days. Check out the SOLD Section below and see how many vehicles sold in the past week. Some sections of the country are really moving collector cars.
We are encouraging buyers to use our COL Inspection Service rather than going out to inspect the vehicles themselves. Our inspectors will do a pre-purchase inspection and appraisal of the car you want to buy. They will be able to give you a good idea of the condition classes on these cars. This is the safest way for you to buy collector cars for the next few weeks. Please, stay healthy out there.

We all know that Chevrolet's El Camino evolved from the Chevelle Malibu platform. But many of us may have forgotten about GMC having an El Camino of their own. Yes, remember, the 1971 GMC Sprint was GMC's version of the El Camino SS. Here is an excellent example being offered by Streetside Classics, a classic car dealer offering it for sale from their local store in Ft Worth, Texas. And wait till you see what's under the hood. It has a big block 454 ci V8 with the proper orange paint ... it almost looks like an OEM installantion. However, under the air cleaner you'll see an Edelbrock manifold and 4-barrel carburetor. The 10-bolt rear end handles the horsepower well, they say. Find it for sale in this week's Truck Section online.
Ever since the Coronavirus pandemic began, we've had a lot of requests to list cars here on Cars-On-Line.com. Classic car dealers around the country must have heard about Cars-On-Line's collector car following. Suddenly we're the "place to be." This week we met with the good people from No Reserve Classics in Marlboro, New Jersey. Owner Joe Hanna was a car guy from his teenage years and loves to work on cars and enjoy them. So his theory is that if he makes each car turnkey ready to his own standards, the buying public will love them. For instance, here is a 1969 Camaro RS/SS Pro Touring which has been fully restored and documented. Joe says it is a great example of what a pro touring muscle car should be. With a Schwartz 6.2L LS3 crate motor, Level 5 4L70E 4-speed automatic transmission built by RPM, TMI Sport XR interior, and the bulletproof Strange Engineering S60 Dana 60 rear end, it embodies a classic American muscle car with modern performance and amenities. (Click here to view a walk around video and here it run.) You'll find more of No Reserve Classics' special offerings in this week's newsletter below.
Who better to give a tour of the product than the CEO of the company? This video presentation is for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz 3500 RV, and it details many of the features you'll enjoy as you take your life out onto the open road. Luxury at its finest? It's easy to see the charm here. And with less than 10,000 miles, it's barely used. The seller from Davenport, Iowa says it has no issues, has exceptional gas mileage, and runs on a 3.0 turbo diesel engine. Now this is the way to sell an RV ... you need video.

It's had some recent work and needs a little more to be in top running shape again. It has a 460ci V8 and 20k original miles according to the SLIDE SHOW listing. It's also just $8,500.

Buick and Oldsmobile muscle cars are the real sleepers in today's collector car market. Here is a gorgeous 1972 Oldsmobile 442 which has had a W-30 package update. The color is Oldsmobile's version of GM's Hugger orange. What a striking effect it has on this muscle car. It combines a 455 ci V8 and tic-toc-tach with modern day Bluetooth. What a ride!

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page!
What a sharp looking muscle car, right? Flemings Ultimate Garage did a wonderful job with their photos on this 1970 Ford Torino GT Convertible. You have to admit, it takes a great picture. The Tawny Gold exterior with Gingerbread interior really set it off. This is their price leader for the week. They just dropped the price on this one to $16,500. Hurry! We don't think it will last the weekend. It comes equipped with a 302 ci V8 with automatic transmission, power steering, power top and power front disc brakes. It has a full Marti Report and a binder full of receipts. Forget a vaccine. This is the real cure for Coronavirus. Get out and enjoy a ride in the country with the top down. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday if it lasts that long. Their asking price is only $16,500.
Classic Car Deals, an internet broker that advertises for their clients, has listed an interesting street rod this week. You see a lot of early Fords in the street rod market, but it is not often that you run across an early Plymouth done as a rod. Here is a 1937 Plymouth Sedan which has been in the same owners collection for the past 36 years. Hot rodders will tell you that the best independent front suspensions in the custom car hobby are the ones that use a Plymouth Volare subframe. This one does. It has a Mopar 440 big block and an automatic transmission. The seller says it is ready to drive. He says, " Everything is done." Turnkey. This is the one to check out and have inspected. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $25,995.
You want to get attention? Here is an "over-the-top" neo-classic all pimped out with wild paint and factory built dependability. The 1983 Zimmer Golden Spirit comes from Classic Car Deals, an internet broker selling this neo-classic roadster for their client. It has a Mustang drivetrain with a V8 engine. They say the paint is in great condition, with Recardo leather power seats, console and all the amenities, i.e. automatic transmission, power windows, power locks, tilt wheel, air conditioning, power steering and only 43k miles. This unusual collector car will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $19,900.
We have been aware for some time that muscle car era Oldsmobile Cutlass convertibles have been in limited availability for some years now. Here is a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible offered for sale by a private seller from Lehi, Utah. Since Utah does not use as much salt on its roads as many more populace states, it is often assumed that a Utah car might be more rust free. This one comes with a 350 2-barrel. The seller says it starts right up and runs great. He lists some new parts. He says the convertible top and interior have been redone. There is some interior work that needs to be finished. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is only $17,000. This might be a nice opportunity for the right buyer.
We have mentioned Classic Car Deals in the DEAL of the DAY section several times today. Here is another interesting deal they have brought to our attention this week. Look at the photos of this 1959 Edsel Ranger 4-Door Sedan. You have to admit this is a rare car in today's market. This one would be a good one to have inspected before you buy. The photos are a little dark. You might benefit from having our inspector take better photos and test drive it. The seller says it is a "survivor", meaning it remains original with onlly 41k original miles. That's is a great selling point right there. It is a 6-cylinder car with a three-on-a-tree manual transmission. He says the body is "A-1." It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week because the asking price is only $14,995.
Motorcar Studio, a classic car dealer in Atlanta, comes up with some of the best deals in Off-Road type vehicles each week. Today they have a 1981 Jeep CJ-7 which they say is a life long California truck which they just got in. They call it "an honest and original survivor till clad in its factory-applied copper brown metallis paint." They say the body is solid and straight with no known rust issues. It has a fiberglass hard top which they say is "remarkably well preserved." Miles are around 100,000. They say there were no accidents reported on the clean CarFax. It has the bulliet proof 258 ci Straight six engine and a 4-speed. They say the interior is mostly orignal except for front bucket seats. Click here to view a walk-around video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is $14,900.
In 1984 Ford did a factory tribute to the Shelby GT350 by producing a half-year edition 20th Anniversary Mustang GT350 Turbo Convertible. This is one of only 104 Anniversary cars with the 2.3 Turbo. It came from the factory with Traction lok rear axle, power disc brakes, air conditioning, power windows and special GT350 paint and trim. This one has several of the special packages for trim and interior as well. It is one of only 11 that had tilt steering along with these options. It was sold at Freeway Ford Mercury in Davis, California. Today it is being offered for sale by a private seller from Saskatooon, Sascatchewan, Canada. His asking price is only $9,900. It would be hard to find a more important collector car for that price.
