It is the iconic looking long-wheelbase motorcar, one of the largest and most luxurious big bodied classics ever produced. Yet with the emergent mechanical upgrades for 1939, the Packard 1707 Coupe Roadster handled and cornered suprisingly well for a 5,540-pound motorcar.
This week a rare example of the 1939 Packard 1707 Coupe Roadster is all the buzz on the internet. The Raleigh Classic Collector Car Auction has listed it as a promo for their upcoming auction sale, August 21-22, 2020 in Youngsville, North Carolina. The Packard Twelve will cross the auction block on Saturday August 22. Doubtless it will be the featured sale of the day. The sale will be held at the Capitol Auto Auction facility in Youngsville for the first time this year. Cars-On-Line newsletter readers know that the Raleigh Classic is one of our favorite collector car events. This sale brings in some of the finest low-mile collector cars in the Southeast.
This example is powered by a 473 ci V-12 engine and a 3-speed transmission with a fast geared rear end. It was restored in 2012 and was judged as both a Junior and Senior AACA Award winner. Its features include hydraulic brakes, independent front suspension, a rare burled walnut steering wheel and a rumble seat with correct leather arm rests. It is often referred to as a “2/4 passenger” coupe roadster because of the rumble seat.
For more history on the Last of the Packard 1707 V-12's you may want to read our report in the MyDreamCar.online blog today. Be sure to tell us your Packard V-12 stories in the comments section below the article.

Linked above are the New Listings and Price Changes pages. These pages are updated regularly to include every addition to the Cars On Line.com Collector Car Market.
I got a good chuckle over an article from WIRED magazine on their website. They noted eleven cars you can buy now, implying that they would go up in value. The first one was a 1957 Jaguar XKSS, so rare that auction houses will estimate their value at $18 million. We really doubt that if you pay $18 million for one today that they will ever achieve any appreciation. Future generations are likely to still be playing video games when it is their turn to support the collector car market. So let us bring you our TOP FIVE you can buy affordably now and will likely be collectible in the future. (And they won't break your pocket book.)
1. 1990 Corvette ZR1, $17,900
2. 1988 Mustang GT Convertible, $10,500
3. 1978 Dodge Lil Red Express, $17,500
4. 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8, $26,000
5. 2007 Shelby GT500, $27,000
You know how we love it when advertisers tell us about their sales. Robert form Anamosa, Louisiana did a great job selling his 1964 Chevy Nova this week. He told us to put a SOLD sign on his ad. "Have had excellent results using Cars On Line. Will not hesitate to use it again."
Now Mike knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell on Cars-On-Line."
We would like to remind our readers to take advantage of our COL Inspection Service rather than going out to inspect vehicles themselves. Our inspectors will do a pre-purchase inspection and appraisal of the car you want to buy. They will be able to give you a good idea of the condition classes on these cars. This is the safest way for you to buy collector cars these days. Please, stay healthy out there.

You may remember this 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator Boss 302 from the Power Nation TV show. The superlatives about this car literally roll like movie subtitles. Rare, documented and award winning, the "Boss Cat" G Code Cougar is one of the finest left in captivity. The rare Cougar Eliminator Boss 302 is one of only 2,268 Cougar Eliminators produced in 1970. Of those, only 469 came with a Boss 302 motor. And it is one of only 323 that came with a close-ratio 4-speed. Its last owner did a rotisserie restoration on it in 2008. See the ad copy and photos to review the 30 awards it has won, and the Marti Report verifying how rare it is. It is offered for sale at Vanguard Motor Sales in Plymouth, Michigan. You'll want to watch this interesting walk-around video and hear it run.
When a Canadian hot rodder from Brandon, Manitoba, Canada listed his 1962 Chevy II Nova for sale this week, he included a video with his ad. Now that's the way to sell a Nova custom. Wait till you see the Lipstick red paint and WELD Flat 50 wheels. The 350 Chevy engine is said to be new as is the Edelbrock manifold and carburetor, Hooker Competition headers with aluminized exhaust and mufflers and Champion Aluminum 3-core radiator. The see the Dakota Digital dash in the instrument cluster. Without the video you just don't get the whole picture. Click the video window above to view.

Here is a rare classic pickup truck that still has very low miles. It is a 1960 Dodge D100 Pickup being offered by an internet broker. HaggleMe.com says it was restored about eight years ago. It now has only 23,356 actual miles, according to their ad description. Be sure to view the photos. You won't believe how clean it is and the condition of the wood bed.

Universal Muscle Cars in Linthicum, Maryland listed a 1967 Chevelle this week that might be an easy restoration to complete. They tell us it is a running and nice driving car which will be an easy one to finish. They say the body is rock solid, straight and clean including the floors and frame. There is still some interior work to do. Read about it in the ad.

It is a numbers matching GTO with all its factory body panels intact, according to the private seller from Grand Haven, Michigan. The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY section on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page!
With all of those Chevelles and GTO's out there at incrediblly high prices, you would think a great car like this 1972 Oldsmobile 442 would sell for six figure numbers. But, no! You can still find a 442 at affordable prices. This one was sourced from Texas years ago and now resides in Hubertus, Wisconsin where it is stored and cherished. The private owner says its orignal 350 V8 engine was rebuilt in 2004 along with the original TH350 automatic transmission. Both have less than 10,000 miles on them. Repanted Matador red in 2015, it comes with a W-25 fiberglass Ram Air hood, FE2 suspension, Hurst dual gate shifter and has Flowmaster dual exhaust. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is only $23,500.
We rarely see a 1966 Sunbeam Alpine Series V sports car like this one on our pages. It is being offered for sale by Chicago Car Club. They found it in Kentucky from a collection where it had been well cared for by both of its last two owners. You should give the photos and the video in the ad a good review. Chicago Car Club goes into great detail on this one. They say as it sits now, "The car absolutely does fire right up, pull hard and smoothly through the gears, up and downshift beautifully, track straight, brake straight and effectively, and sound great just as it is." But there are some issues you should be aware of as noted in the ad copy. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday this weekend. The asking price is only $14,500.
You have to take pity on this poor 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Sunliner. The private owner from Stockton, California says he just doesn't drive it enough. He says he is now off into other interests. It needs a home. He has had the car since 1974, always garaged, no rust. It has the big block 390 ci Ford V8 engine, automatic Cruise-O-Matic transmission and they say there are only 113,000 miles. The seller says the convertible top is new, as is the motor and the hydraulic hoses. It has original upholstery (see photo) and carpet. This is one you might want to have inspected before you buy it. We will give you around 100 photos of all the detail. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday next week. The asking price is only $19,995.
A private collector from Dubuque, Iowa has a very desirable 1941 Buick Sedanette (Sport Coupe) Special with Buick Super equipment. The SSE package includes an upgraded Super interior and one-year only dual carburetor Fireball Straight 8 engine. The Buick remains completely stock, says the seller. It comes from Wyoming and Colorado. The seller says it has been in dry storage for many years before coming to Iowa in 2015. You should see the body ... clean with only light surface rust on the underside. The chrome is preserved due to the dry western climate. It has lots of cool patina, real patina, that is. The seller says it runs and drives nicely. You should have it inspected before you buy. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week. The asking price is only $12,500.
Here is another great deal from Chicago Car Club which you might want to take a chance on. They posted this 1940 Ford Deluxe Tudor this week at a very affordable price point. They say they sourced it from a man in Virginia whose father owned the car since 2004. The father transplanted a 1970's 400 ci V8 and a TH350 automatic transmission into the street rod. Then he custmized the interior, converted it to 12v, and mounted new wheels and tires. With only 70 miles on the car after the redo he fell into poor health, and the car was garaged since. Chicago Car Club says it does run cool and drive well, it should be gone through again to be counted on as a routine driver. They did a detailed walk-around video on this one. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is $17,500.
From California comes a beautiful 1938 Plymouth Deluxe 2 Door Coupe with Mint Green and white exterior paint with purple/orange accents and a very nicely finished black cloth interior. This information comes from the description written by Specialty Sales Classics in Benicia, California where it is being offered for sale. They say it has a nice performing 350 V8 with RPM intake, an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and an HEI distriutor and chrome dress-up kit, mated to a Turbo 350 automatic. They tell us the rare Plymouth shows very nicely with a few minor imperfections in paint and interior. An older restoration, Specialty Sales CLassics offers this walk-around video for extra encouragement. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is $22,990. I think you'll agree, it is a lotta' car for the money.
Somewhat forgotten by the collector car hobby, but better appreciated more recently, this 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III is a sweet reminder of the big luxury car tradition here in the U.S. The private owner in St. Johns, Florida has put it up for sale this week. He says it is very straight and has good panel fitment. It was resprayed in the original color of Ginger Moondust. The Mark III was an historic two-door, big luxury car that could happen only in America. It was part of Ford's high-end car market which was its most profitable for a long time. The big 460 ci V8 is mated to a C6 automatic transmission. The seller says it still shifts smoothly as you would expect from a Lincoln. It will be our DEAL of the DAY at the end of the week if it lasts that long. The asking price is only $16,000.
