By 1970, new car sales for the younger buyer was all about big displacement and looking fast. For the price, nothing could come close to the 1970 Pontiac GTO 455 HO Convertible. That car looked fast just standing still, sleek and smooth with the Ram Air hood and a hood tach. We've seen them run 13's all day in stock original condition at the nostalgia drags in Michigan. But for the average buyer it was all about that cool image.
The Burgandy 1970 Pontiac GTO 455 HO Convertible you see here is being offered for sale this week at Hendrick Performance in Charlotte, North Carolina. It comes from the Rick Hendrick collection there. The extensive restoration on this car cannot be overstated. "The quality of the restoration is nearly flawless inside, outside, and even underneath," they wrote in their descripition. It has won an AACA National First Place award.
Only 158 GTO convertibles were built with the L75 455 HO and a 4-speed in 1970. This one came with Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor, chrome valve covers, dual-snorkel air cleaner with chrome lid, Ram Air hood with hood tach, power steering, power disc brakes, dual exhaust with chrome exhaust tips, Posi-traction 12-bolt McKinnon rear axle with 3.31 gears, plus front and rear anti roll bars. It has a power top, bucket seats, Rally II wheels, Hurst shifter and wood steering wheel.
For a more detailed history on the L75 GTO you'll want to click here to read about this 1970 Pontiac GTO 455 HO Convertible in the MyDreamCar.online blog today. Then post your GTO stories in the comments box at the end of the article. We love to here about your experiences.

In a NASCAR.com poll of current NASCAR drivers, Jimmie Johnson was chosen as the Greatest NASCAR Driver of All-Time. Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Kyle Busch and Richard Pearson rounded out the top five in that order. Johnson has won the NASCAR Championship seven times, more than any other driver in history. It should be noted however, that Johnson only edged out Richard Petty by one vote. There was some controversy on Twitter this week on whether Kyle Busch or Jeff Gordon should have been in the Top 5. Not to be outdone, NBCSports.com is giving readers a chance to vote on that subject. Make your vote known here.
Charlene, a Baby Boomer from Wisconsin, listed her 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible just when the covid pandemic was getting bad in New York. She wondered whether you could sell a classic car in this market. This week she was happy to tell us she had sold the classic Chevy to a collector from California. She said the buyer called her when the vehicle was delivered to tell her how happy he was. She included the original engine and some parts with the sale.
Now Charlene knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell on Cars-On-Line." This past week was another great week for collector car sales. You should see all the cars SOLD just this past week. Click here to review the SOLD Section below.

Man, you just haven't lived until you've driven a classic first generation Camaro with a big block. One of the most sought after of these factory originals is a 1969 Camaro SS L78 Convertible like the one being offered at Hendrick Performance this week. Lemans blue, it has the L78 396/375 hp Turbo-Jet big block motor putting power to the pavement with a Muncie M-21 4-speed transmission and the factory 12-bolt 4.10 ratio rear end. And the Hendrick people tell us the drive train is numbers matching and original. Options on this one included a power top from the factory, power front disc brakes, posi-traction rear axle, and center console. They tell us it is in superb "just restored" looking condition.
What a sweet looking Chevy! Wish they'd have made these here in the U.S. Somehow a 1948 Chevrolet Ute (Australian utility vehicle) ended up here in the United States. It is an authentic right-hand-drive Chevrolet made in Australia. This is probably where the idea for the El Camino and Ranchero came from. Currently for sale by a private collector in California, it is one of only two known to be here in the U.S. A full restoration was just completed with only 200 miles on it after the redo. Not all original, it was intelligently updated to keep the original aesthetic. It has a custom steel roll pan with '48 taillights, 216 ci motor with a 3-speed transmission, under dash air conditioning, 12-volt system with an alternator.
We are thrilled that one of our favorite events, the Raleigh Classic Auction, will still happen this summer in spite of the pandemic. The Raleigh Classic will be held August 21-22, 2020 in Youngsville, North Carolina at the Capitol Auto Auction facility. The Raleigh Auction tends to bring in some of the top collector cars from the Southeastern U.S. Many of them are low miles and in nice original condition. Here are some of the cars already consigned to sell. Finally, a collector car event worth attending again.
This discreetly desirable 1939 Packard Model 1279 Convertible is from the Auerbach Collection, one of the fine collections being sold here at the Raleigh Classic Auction. It is representative of the vintage classics which will be sold here on August 22. The Packard Super 8 is one of only three registered with the Classic Car Club of America. It is seen here with dual mount spare tires, grille guard, luggage carrier, backup light, fog lights and wide white wall tires.
The 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 Convertible was considered the pinnacle of performance from Oldsmobile during the muscle car era. Collectors will be excited to bid on this truly amazing example on Friday, August 21. If you ordered the "W-Machine" version of the 442 from Oldsmobile, it included a fiberglass hood (option W25) with functional air scoops and low-restriction air cleaner, giving the 455 all the extra power you could want.
One of the featured cars for the Saturday auction is a 1957 Ford Skyliner Retractable. Not only does it have a rare tutone orange and white color combination, but it came form the factory with a lot of options. The list includes, power windows, power steering, power brakes, signal seeking radio, power seat, dual correct spot lights, Continental Kit, dual exhaust system and correct teardrop fender skirts. It is representative of the selection of important classic '50s collector cars you find at the Raleigh Classic.
You will often find what we call "future collectibles" or later model specialty cars with low miles at the Raleigh Classic as well. This 2006 Pontiac GTO was born to be a collector car, enhanced by Pontiac's demise in 2010. It is a proud performance car with exceptionally low miles. The two-owner car is said to have only 12,861 actual miles. This one will be on the auction block on Saturday. The 6.0 liter V8 with a 4-speed automatic in Phantom Black metallic paint will make you Pontiac Proud. It is a performance car to remember.

Check out the paint and panel fitment on this 1970 Chevelle SS 396 from Ross Customs in Michigan. Ross narrates a full walk-around video, pointing out the interesting upgrades and important muscle car equipment. The Blue Flame color is not original but it looks so nice on this car. This car is real nice throughout. More than just a walk-around, this video is almost like having an inspection done. Click the video window above to view.

Most of these first generation Mustang convertibles are going in the $30,000 + price range. This is a C Code 289 V8, red with a Pony interior. It comes with an automatic transmission, soft top with a boot cover, white line tires and solid wheels. Beverly Hills Car Club tells us it is mechanically sound. Here is an interesting piece of automotive history. This 1928 Willys Whippet Model 96 was the successor to the Overlands. Look through the dozens of detailed photos in the ad to see the motor, a 134 ci inline 4 cylinder. This was so advanced for its time becaue it had a full pressure oiling system and pump circulated coolants. It later would be the engine found in the World War II era Willys Jeeps. Click here to see a walk-around video by Unique Specialty & Classics. The Minnesota dealer is offering it for sale this week so it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is only $13,900. They say it runs and drives great.
Ford's forgotten muscle cars include this 1969 Ford Fairlane Fastback with the 351 Cleveland motor fed y a 4-barrel carburetor and transfering power to the pavement through a C6 automatic transmission and a 9-inch Ford rear end. The private owner from Colorado Springs, Colorado tells us it has been updated with a new Fitech EFI with braided lines, stainless valves, Roller rockers and a hydraulic Comp cam pushrods and custom ground camshaft. The C6 has a TCI stall converter. You'll find Hooker headers and a 2.5" exhaust with H pipes and turbo mufflers. Even has Wilwood front disc brake conversion. Ford's Lincoln Division was all about personal luxury cars for the wealthy class of new car buyer. Here is a 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III which was a status symbol of the country club set in its time. It came with a big 460 ci V8 engine, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, speed control, Temperature Control air conditioning, power windows, power door locks and 6-way power seats. It even had remote control outside drivers mirror and a power trunk release. With the hidden headlights and luxury room inside, it rides as smooth as it looks. Find dozens of detailed photos in the ad. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is only $11,900
After World War II Americans were aware of the European two-seater sports cars. This was an idea new to America. So MG in England designed the MG TD roadster specifically to market to the U.S. This black 1953 MG TD Roadster with the canvas top is being offered for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, California. They consider it to be mechanically sound. Many of the cars in their inventory have come from wealthy clients who have had these older collectible sports cars in storage. This one is said to be matching nubers and has a red interior. We always recommend that you have a car inspected before you buy it. But hurry, this one will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is $16,750.
It was the last year the Volkswagen Beetle was exported and sold in the U.S. So this 1979 VW Super Beetle Convertible is very collectible. The Super Beetle was the top-of-the-line and came with the 1600 cc Flat 4 cylinder engine with factory Bosch fuel injection. The color you see here is River Blue with one repaint. It has a black interior. The engine and transmission have had fresh maintenance. The private seller from Marian, Iowa tells us it runs and drives great. He points out several small items which will need attention. It is the perfect car for a veteran VW owner, and it will be our DEAL of the DAY this coming week. The asking price is only $9,500.
Here is a stylish sedan that would have been very rare back in the day. That's because the Azure Aqua color was not that common. The matching Aqua interior makes it even more appealing. It is being offered for sale by Streetside Classics in the Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas area. They tell us it has a high performance 327 ci Chevy engine. If you know anything about the '60s Impalas, they were a great handling car perfect for a high performance engine. They tell us this one has been freshened and maintained over the years, and still runs and drives crisp as an Impala should. You will have to see this one to believe it. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this week. The asking price is $19,995.
