It is hosted by the Michigan Hot Rod Association (MHRA). Cars-On-Line.com readers can follow our daily coverage as we bring you the Great 8 contenders which were just announced. Of those top eight contenders, they will select the Ridler Award winner on Sunday. The museum called the Classic Car Collection, just off the Lincoln Highway in Kearney, Nebraska, is scheduled to close in May of 2021, according to a report in the Kearney Hub. The Collection is housed in a 50,000 square foot space in the Kearney Cabela's building.
The Collection was started by Bernie and Janice Tauborg in 2011 when they donated 131 collector cars to the musuem. Bernie, a well known car collector and restorer, passed away in January. It is currently believed that the Tauborg's cars will be sold at auction sometime in 2021. The Collection included everything from an antique 1918 Hupmobile Touring Car and a 1914 Locomobile Roadster, to collector cars from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. This was truly a diverse collection well worth seeing before it closes. It will be missed.
The Mad Max 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe modified for police work in a futuristic world was the car that made Hollywood actor Mel Gibson famous. The car that was immortalized in the Australian made Mad Max feature film is for sale at the Orlando Auto Museum in Dezerland Action Park. It is part of Mike Dezer's Celebrity Car Collection. In the movie they called it the V8 Interceptor and it was described as a Pursuit Special. It appeared in the first two Max Mad movies. Mike Dezer has had many of his celebrity cars and his microcars for sale here on Cars-On-Line. He has been reported to have turned down an offer of $2 million for the car.
With March upon us, you'll find great car shows all over the warm weather parts of the country. Don't miss our coverage of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance next weekend, March 5-8, 2020, in Florida. In our minds it is second only to the great show at Pebble Beach. It is among the top automotive events in the world. “The Amelia” draws nearly 250 rare vehicles from collections all over the world to The Golf Club of Amelia Island at Summer Beach and The Ritz-Carlton.
Our photographer, Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos.com, will be on hand to bring you photos and videos from the showfield at the Ritz-Carlton. Here is a look at the Amelia Island Concours in 2019. You'll find photos and videos of some of the most rare and elegant concours classic cars. We always say, "At Amelia Island, you'll see cars that you won't see anywhere else."

In a statement today, officials of the Geneva International Auto Show announced that Europe's largest new car show has been canceled in lieu of the Coronavirus scare. They say the government of Switzerland has banned large public events of more than 1,000 people to limit the spread of COVID-19 virus in the Swiss state. Our newsletter readers will note that the 90th Annual Geneva international exposition of automotive manufacturers is mentioned in our COL Car Show Calendar as one of the major automotive events in the world. It was to be held March 5-15, 2020 at the Palexpo in Geneva. The announcement was made today by Maurice Turrettini, president of Geneva International Motor Show. Switzerland's Federal Council made the decision to cancel the event for this year. Bentley, BMW, Kia, Mercedes and Toyota were scheduled to unveil important new models. The decision came only three days before media day was to occur. The ban is in effect until the middle of March.
All right, we know what you're gonna say. Plymouth didn't make a GTX convertible in 1971. Right! That's the point. Gary and Pam Beineke, a Mopar couple whom we introduced you to last week in the newsletter, built this one to show what it could have looked like. Their 1971 Plymouth GTX XCON Concept Convertible which you see here is the one from their incredible Mopar collection. This week it is being offered for sale by REV Muscle Cars. Click the link to view dozens of detailed photos. We believe that when you read the article, you will agree that this one was built right. They even added anti-rattle door buffers from the C-body convertibles to the doorjambs to give the car a bank vault feel. Click here to view the walk-around video done by REV.
NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski ordered a 2017 Ford GT Heritage Edition back in 2017. This particular car is reminiscent of the Ford GT-40 that won the 24 Hours of Lemans in 1966. It replicates the livery on the '66 winner, but comes with a modern Ford 3.5 liter Twin-Turbo EcoBoost V6 with 647 horsepower, and Getrag 7-speed dual clutch automatic transaxle with paddle shifters. What an amazing ride. It is being offered for sale this week at RK Motors Charlotte, one of the advertisers in the COL Dealer Network. This is an exclusive, first year only look for the Heritage editions. Only 138 Ford GT's were produced in 2017. It is one of only 1,350 second-generation Ford GTs ever assembled. As advertised it has only 18 actual miles. RK Motors has dozens of detailed photos at the link above.
As a younger generation of collectors is having more impact on the collector car market, we are seeing more collector interest in pickup trucks from the 1980's. While we don't usually consider them as "classics", we are seeing a heavy interest in specialty trucks that the Gen-X'ers may have grown up with. As an example, today Humpty Dumpty Classic Cars in Sarasota, Florida has this 1986 Chevy C10 Pickup with an NOM 454 Chevy motor and sharp resto mod look. It also is symbolic of the reason the 1980's trucks are so attractive to a younger buyer. The price is very affordable. They are only asking $16,500 for this turnkey ready custom pickup. Be sure to look at the Classic Pickup Section (below) in this newsletter to find other classic pickup trucks of this era.
These days, you can't find a nice 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Victoria like this one for the kind of money you can afford. Watch the video as the private seller tells you about how the car is put together. The guy is an old street rodder, and he was an engine builder by trade. You should come and see this driver quality resto mod for yourself. Listen to that engine as it pulls away in the video.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page!
A beautiful resto mod 1966 Mercury Comet Hardtop becomes a hot rod version of the original midsized American classic. It may be a poor man's Cyclone, but for the average gearhead this is a pure performance muscle car. Look at the slick paint on a laster straight body. It is all part of a rotisserie restoration. Note the Cyclone hood, new red over silver interior and a built 351 Windsor with roller cam and bored .030 with aluminum heads and Doug's headers. It is being offered for sale by a private seller from Bastrop, Louisiana. It will be our Deal of the Day on Saturday. The asking price is $22,000.
You don't find a first generation Mustang Fastback in our Deal of the Day section very often. That is because the Fastback version of the Pony car is so closely associated with the Shelby Mustang that collectors just can't get enough of them. It keeps the price high on most fastback editions. But today Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles just posted a 1965 Mustang Fastback at an extremely attractive price. Don't expect this to last the weekend. (Do you have the phone in your hand yet?) We really mean it when we say "Hurry" on this one. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday if it last that long. Their asking price is $24,750.
Here is a 1969 Chevy Malibu Convertible with SS emblems (not an SS.) It is being offered for sale this week by a private seller from Palm City, Florida. The car is a "driver quality" find with a 350 ci Mr Goodwrench V8 crate motor and comes with a "smooth as silk" automatic transmission. The seller says it comes with new rims and tires, front disc brakes, new shocks, new gas tank and new carpet. Check out the photos in the ad. Having recently inspected a Malibu convertible I can tell you that the market is flooded with low No. 4 condition cars being masqueraded as No. 3 drivers. Have it inspected. We think it will come surprise you. It will be our Deal of the Day on Monday. The asking price is $20,000.
Before the Delorean came of age, this was the exotic dream car for a whole generation of American sports car enthusiasts. This 1975 Bricklin SV-1 had Gullwing doors, a 351 Windsor engine and came in a Safety Orange color that was guaranteed to get you noticed. It is being offered for sale by Streetside Classics in Tampa, Florida. The salient feature of the Bricklin was that it had a composite body, and the acrylic resin color was bonded to the fiberglass. They said you would never have to paint it. For a good look at this one click this link to view a walk-around video by Streetside. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. What a find for a collector. The asking price is only $18,995.
Collectors have been prospecting the late 1970's Camaros for many years, hoping they will have the same kind of appreciation that the first generation Camaros have achieved. He says it comes with the original matching numbers 350 ci V8, a rebuilt TH350 transmission, dual exhaust, and R134 air conditioning (new compressor), tilt wheel, a center console shifter, new paint, dash, headliner, upholstery (see photo.) It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The price is $16,500.
When this car first came out Mitsubishi was filling a need for a low budget sports car with an exotic car appeal. This is the 1993 Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4 Twin Turbo with all-wheel-drive and a 5-speed transmission. For a young car enthusiast this was almost too good to be true. Today these cars will find a following among young and old alike. It comes with polished wheels, power windows, power brakes, power door locks, power drivers seat, active aero wing, rebuilt engine and turbos, and replaced power antenna. What makes it so desirable? In the sellers words, "It is a rocket on wheels." It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is $15,900.
