Coming up in the collector car hobby you always heard about the Carlisle Car Show being one of the biggest car shows and swap meets in the country. Well, it still is. And not even Covid could tarnish its status in the collector car community. The Fall Carlisle Collector Car Flea Market, Car Corral and Auction will be held Sept 30-Oct 4, 2020. at the Carlisle, Pennsylvania Fairgrounds. And, yes, the Fall Carlisle Auction is also a "go" for October 1-2, 2020. With so little to look forward to this year in the way of car shows, this is exciting news for the collector car hobby. We hope you had a chance to see our ClassiCarNews story on the Raleigh Classic Auction last weekend. (If you didn't, click here to review the photos and the prices these cars went for.) It was interesting to see how collector car prices are being influenced by Covid era thinking. Sales on Friday were great with an 85 percent sell-thru rate on all vehicles in the sale. Saturday the higher priced cars went through and sales stayed strong all day. This 1939 Packard Model 1707 Coupe Roadster was the big sale of the show, drawing a winning bid of $161,000. What is the rarest Desoto ever made? A good argument can be made that this is it. A 1942 Desoto 5th Avenue Convertible was listed by a private party collector in Kerrville, Texas. It is the only year they made this model, and the production numbers were limited. This model came with a number of "one-of-a-kind" options that make it stand out such as, hideaway headlights, unique fender skirts, novel park and tail lights, distinctive interior trim, and the "Fifth Avenue" edition with a cigarette dispenser in the steering wheel. This is an unrestored original car, one of only three convertibles from that year known to exist. Of those, this is the only 5th Avenue edition convertible remaining. It was repainted and rechromed in the mid-1980's. It will be interesting to talk with the owner on this one.

Itching to get back into the swing of "in-person" auction bidding, RM Auctions is presenting their signature Fall Auburn Auction in the hometown of the original Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg headquarters in Auburn, Indiana. The traditional Labor Day Weekend collector car sale at the Auburn Auction facility will go on as planned this year. And they have really primed the pump with an amazing selection of cars. Here is just a teaser.

Among the ultra rare vintage motorcars being offered at the Fall Auburn Auction sale by RM Auctions is a 1936 Lagonda LG45 Tourer, one of only 25 such Tourers ever built. It was the invention of W.O. Bentley who used the 4.5-liter Meadows inline Six engine, adding such refinements as synchromesh gears and a central lubrication system. They say only 17 of these cars are known to have survived. Chassis 12043 was ordered by a a Scottish buyer but soon wound up here in the U.S. where it has been ever since. It was purchased from the heir of the Pepperidge Farm fortune in the 1990s. It has been in the same ownership for two decades.

There will be a number of rare and desirable Woodie Station wagons in the Fall Auburn Sale also. Probably the finest is a 1946 Mercury Station Wagon which is being offered from the Duane Sell Collection. It is a very nice older restoration with the three-row seating. The restored wood finish nicely contrasts the Dynamic Maroon paint, and it comes with accessories such as an AM radio, bumper guards, wing tips and more. They say it has just 61 miles on the restoration, although it has been driven and enjoyed. Few have been finished to this fine a standard.

Do you want to attract some attention? This 1957 Ford Fairlane Sunliner will do the trick. Look at that terrific 1950's tutone color combination. Flame Red over Raven black with a matching black top. It doesn't get much better than that. They say this one was equipped with air conditioning, a rare option which Ford did offer in 1957. It also has the desirable 312 ci Thunderbird Special V8 engine and a Ford-O-Matic transmission. You will note that it is fitted with rear fender skirts and period-correct wide whitewall tires. It is among a large number of such 1950's classic cars to be offered at the Fall Auburn Auction next week.

Chevrolet only produced 667 1968 Chevrolet Nova SS L-78 big block muscle cars. This one will be offered for sale at the Fall Auburn Auction in Auburn, Indiana next week. The owner is including the original window sticker, factory Protect-O-Plate, warranty book and spare wheel along with the sale. This car was originally sold through Golightly Chevrolet in Hamilton, Texas, and came with the 4-speed M-20 Muncie manual transmission, 4.11 Posi, power steering, front disc brakes and woodgrain steering wheel. It was a class winner at the Detroit Autorama. You'll see many muscle cars in the auction inventory.

A 1971 Plymouth GTX with a Super Commando 440 big block motor has been listed by We Be Autos, an internet broker. They show a photo of the odometer which reads 34,602 miles. The tumblers are very straight. Although the broker makes no mention of it as being certified or documented, it is worth checking out. This would be a very interesting buy if those odometer numbers are real.

This week a real deal 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge became the best deal on the Cars-On-Line website. How did that happen? The seller from Friendsville, Tennessee was asking $49,000 for his original GTO Judge. He says it is no trailer queen, and this is one you can drive. Then he dropped the price to $39,000. That is well below what the price guides show as average value. So now there is a PRICE REDUCED tag on his ad.

Looking as a COPO Camaro should, this 1969 Camaro 427 is a great example of a big block Camaro. You haven't really lived till you've driven one of these. It will get your heart pumping. Classical Gas Motors in Texas is the broker. They tell us the big block motor features a date code block, original snowflake Winters aluminum heads, solid lifters, and they say it kicks out around 500 hp.

We are excited to bring you this 1969 Pontiac Firebird Convertible being offered for sale this week by a private seller in Michigan. He says it is a driver quality car which has recently undergone a mechanical refresh. The paint is still older which puts it in the driver quality category. But the look and stance on this Firebird are impressive. He says the original #s matching 350 ci engine was rebuilt, heads sent out set up for unleaded fuel, original #s alternator, starter, radiator, water pump were sent out and rebuilt and much more. Here is an historically interesting 1956 Packard Executive being offered for sale by Unique Specialty & Classsic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota. The Executive model, a 2-door hardtop, was only produced in limited numbers. Packard only made 1,031 of them. They came with tri-tone paint schemes and tri-color interiors with cloth and vinyl. This one is silver, blue and light blue on the seats to match the exterior. Riding on wide whites and Packard wheel covers with rear fender skirts, it is powered by a 352 ci V8 that is paired with a push button automatic transmission, plus power steering, power windows, and power antenna. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $14,900.

Mopars are an acquired taste. Once you are into them, you are Mopar or "no car" for life. Here is a popular 1974 Dodge Dart Swinger being offered for sale by North Shore Classics in the Chicago suburbs. It has the ultra reliable 318 V8 engine, power steering and power brakes. They say it runs and drives great. It was painted about a year ago. Although the photos show a driver class car, you will be impressed by how clean this one still is. Collectors love to get a lot for their money. So this one will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $16,900.

A private seller from Atlanta, Georgia just posted his 1966 Mustang Convertible for sale. In his short descriiption he says that the car was restored, then tucked away in his climate controlled storage for twenty plus years. Now he needs to move and must sell his treasure. He says it runs and drives great. Because it was stored for so long it might be appropriate to have it inspected before you buy. Here is the link to the COL Inspection Service. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week because his asking price is below the average price guide value at $24,900.

For the 1990 racing season, Chevrolet sought out the help of UK based Lotus to engineer the fastest car on earth. It was the program that produced this 1990 Corvette ZR1, the Corvette C4, which broke the 24-hour, 5,000-mile land speed record. It has the LT5 5.7L V8 engine, six-speed manual transmission, electronic air conditioning, removable roof panels, Selective Ride and handling and a Performance Handling package. It runs on Blackwall radial 17" ZR1 styled five-spoke wheels. Historically, it is an important Corvette to own. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because you don't find them in this price range very often. Midwest Car Exchange is asking $15,900.

The nameplate "Power Wagon" was used by Chrysler's Dodge division from 1945 through 1980, and then on and off again ever since. The Dodge W150 model pickup truck is often referred to as a Power Wagon or Power Ram. This 1990 Dodge W150 Pickup has a 5.2L V8 engine matched with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The exterior color is a Blue & Silver tutone with the original gray interior. It is being offered for sale this week by Primo Classics International in Lakeland, Florida. They say it has just 67k miles verified by the previous owner and a clean Carfax. It comes with factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power locks and tilt steering. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week with an asking price of $15,900.

One hot trend in the collector car market out west is finding these Jaguar saloon type cars and restoring them as resto mods. Modernize the performance but keep the stately looks. This 1967 Jaguar Mark II is being offered by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, California. They say it is numbers matching in Old English white with a black interior. You can see the condition for yourself in the dozens of detailed photos. It comes with its 3.4-liter engine, automatic transmission, wood trim, power steering, front-wheel disc brakes and wire wheels. BHCC tells us it is mechanically sound as it is now. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $16,750.
