It was the first time America had seen AMC's fastest muscle car of all time. In the background were revving dragsters and the atmosphere was electric with tire smoke. It was at the NHRA World Drag Racing Finals in Dallas, Texas in 1969 that the new 1970 AMC Rebel Machine first made its debut. Even Linda Vaughn and her Hurst entourage of shapely models were there to liven the premier.
Although 2,326 Rebel Machines were produced in 1970, not many have survived the muscle car wars, still in a show condition. However, Legendary Motorcar Company, one of the top classic car dealers in North America, has one for sale this week. The first 1,000 Rebel Machines produced by AMC in 1970 were painted in the company’s race-inspired red, white and blue color scheme (much like the Rambler SC/Rambler.) This 1970 AMC Rebel Machine (show above) is one of them. It comes with American Motor's most powerful motor, the 390 ci V8. Specially for the Rebel Machine, the 390's top end was tweaked to produce 340 horsepower and 430 foot-pounds of torque--the most ever offered on an AMC street legal car. The cylinder heads, cam, valvetrain, intake and exhaust system were all reworked. It had the same transmission and rear end as the S/C Rambler, with the venerable BorgWarner T-10 four-speed manual and optional “Twin Grip” differential available in either 3.54:1 or 3.90:1 final drive ratios.
Legendary Motorcar Company tells us it has been meticulously maintained for many years by a very careful collector. They say the paint still carries a beautiful glossy luster and the interior looks and feels new. "Slide into the comfortable black vinyl seats and you will find yourself presented with a steering wheel, dash, and gauges all in excellent condition."
If you are tired of the “me-too” cars you see at all the car shows, don’t miss the opportunity to own one of the rarest, best performing muscle cars ever made. Contact Legendary Motorcar Company today.

Our favorite moment from the Fall Auburn Auction this past weekend was when a 1933 Chrysler CL Dual-Windshield Phaeton sold for $175,000 at the hammer. (Follow this link to review the full story and video of all the top sales from the Labor Day Weekend show.) Two 2005 Ford GT's were the top two cars sold, at $275,000 and $265,000. We had a great time there with the RM Sotheby's crew and many of the sellers we talked to. There were some real bargains to be had.
If you haven't read our article on the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Festival from Labor Day Weekend, here is a link to the story. You'll find hundreds of true vintage classics captured there. This 1931 Duesenberg J Disappearing Top Roadster seemed to draw the biggest crowds all morning during the Concours in the Park. Indeed, we consider the Duesenberg display there the most impressive assemblage of Duesenbergs in one place in modern times. We counted 22 Duesenbergs in the parade that afternoon. In addition, there were over a fifty Auburns in the parade, including many orignal factory Boattail Speedsters. Seven rare L-29 Cords made it to the show this year as well.

A private collector from Westport, Connecticut is selling some of his most prized Camaros here online this week. This 1991 Camaro Z28 ordered from the factory with the 1LE package, is one of them. The owner says it still has only 275 original miles, having been stored to preserve its collector value all of its life. Only 478 were ever produced. This is an amazing find. The sister car to it, a 1992 Camaro RS 1LE is featured in the Low Miles Section below. The cars were purchased new and come with documentation. Original window stickers are shown in the photos of each ad.
The private party owner from San Antonio, Texas tells us this is the best driving Shelby he has ever owned. In fact, just yesterday he added a walk-around video to his ad. Take a look at this stunning 1970 Shelby GT500 in this video. This is a 4-speed muscle car currently in the Shelby Registry. It is an original Competition red example with 350 Traction-lok rear axle. It has the tach and trip odometer. He says it looks and drives as new.

It has power rack and pinion steering with all new front and rear suspension, tubular A-arms up front with air bags. There are leafs and air bags on the rear. Then there is that desirable 392 Hemi engine. Wow. The seller reduced the price from $55,000 down to the current price of $45,000. I think you will agree that this is a lotta' truck for the money.

This week's DEAL of the DAY preview has some of the finest collector cars we've ever offered at such low prices. Just look at the popular collector cars in this week's DEALs. This is where we give newsletter readers first shot at all the cars which will be highighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page during the coming week. Often these cars sell right here in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first, though.
If you are a body man, this is a dream project to find. A 1970 Chevelle SS 396 was listed by a private party from Naperville, Illinois. He says the fenders and quarters are starting to show through. He says he has front fender patches but need to be installed. The 396 ci motor is from a '67 Chevelle, but he is sure that the transmission and rear end are original. (Read the ad for more information.) He says it is "mechanically" "perfect." There are a lot of new parts installed or available with the sale. He says the interior panels, carpeting, wind lace and felts all need to be installed. But now for the good news. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the asking price is only $17,000.
A vintage Buick comes with a unique history, having been seen and driven on Mackinaw Island for decades. The 1928 Buick Master Six Country Coupe is now for sale after sitting in a storage garage for 30 years. The seller has updated the front leaf springs, king pins, cleaned the fuel system, boiled and coated the gas tank, installed a new wiring harness and more. He says it looks good, drives well and stops. I think you will agree that it looks nice in the photos. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday with an asking price of $17,900.
Here is one that may be investor quality. A Texas seller has a 1966 Mustang Sprint 200 Convertible which he says it all original and numbers matching. It was restored to original condition and even has the correct paint. It has a power top, original wire wheels, correct pin striping, safety package, air cleaner and original manuals, jacks and boot. The seller says it was present at the Millionth Mustang celebration. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $17,600.
As Mr Magoo, the cartoon character of our youth, might have said, "Ho, Magoo, you've done it again." This week, Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angleles has done it again, Magoo. They came up with our "sleeper" Deal of the Day again this week. They listed a 1963 Ford Falcon Futura Convertible at a price that will amaze you. They say it comes equipped with an automatic transmission with an inline 6 cylinder engine, OEM radio and solid wheels. They say it is an excellent original black plate California car which is mechanically sound. It should be noted: from the photos it looks like this is a low No. 3 condition car. Their asking price is only $7,950.
Here is another "sleeper" find on a desirable classic muscle car. A private seller from Ft Worth, Texas is offering his 1962 Pontiac Catalina for sale. It has a 389 big block V8 engine with an automatic transmission, along with power steering, power brakes, air conditioning fully hooked up (but needs charging), and working heater. Updates include new brakes and brake booster, new dual exhaust and newer tires. The seller notes that his car is all original, with a color change repaint. He says the chrome is excellent. He says it runs excellent. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week, asking $6,000.
Coyote Classics has a 1974 Corvette Big Block 454 coupe with a Dark Emerald Green paint job. They say it runs and drives down the road well. Its exterior is very presentable as a driver and has been buffed to a good shine. The original black bucket seat interior needs TLC with some splits and wear. But they say the undercarriage is real solid. They say it has a great look and stance. It has California emissions equipment, power steering, power disc brakes, Rally rims dual exhaust and T-tops. "Drive now and cosmetically restore later," is the way they put it. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later in the week. The asking price is $16,995.
Before the GTO, the Pontiac Lemans was their top offering for the younger generation, with Baby Boomers just coming of driving age. Here is a 1963 Pontiac Lemans Convertible with the look and stance that got Baby Boomers excited back in the day. This one is being offered for sale by a private seller from Oxford, Ohio. He says it has a 400 ci V8 and a 2-speed automatic transmission. It shows as an older restoration. He says it looks and runs great with a recent barke job and rebuilt caruretor. While the photos show that the owner takes it to car shows, don't be afraid to have it inspected before you buy. You may want to move quickly on this one, though. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next Friday if it lasts that long. The asking price is only $12,000.
