Although the Edsel came along at the worst time in American automotive history, Ford did give classic car collectors one of the rarest classic station wagons for today's collector car market. The 1958 Edsel Villager Wagon was a prime example of Ford innovation, although it made its appearance during an American economic recession.
So few of these Edsel Villager wagons have survived that it was of some interest when Streetside Classics in Phoenix, Arizona listed this 1958 Edsel Villager Station Wagon for sale this week. It is factory correct in its Spruce Green repaint with white accents. The two-tone exhibits intricate work as the creamy white draws extra attention to the distinct and sweeping side trim. In fact, all the major brightwork on the wagon is complete.
The '58 Edsel came with the Teletouch push button automatic transmission located on the steering wheel hub, and the unusual boomerang shaped taillights. Both of these features would be gone in the 1959 models. Another interesting innovation was the barrel speedometer with floating numbers which would glow at a certain speed. There were 78 possible options that year, allowing dealers up to a 32 percent markup on some cars. Every Villager Station Wagon came standard with a cigar lighter, rubber floor mats, chromed rear-view mirror, crank-operated rear windows, and a two-piece tailgate.
For more information about Edsel history and the development of the Villager station wagon, follow this link to our MyDreamCar.online blog page where we have a feature article on this car today. You'll find production numbers and more info on options packages. Then tell us about your Edsel experiences in the Comments box below the story. We love to hear your stories.

Thanksgiving is the one day when people travel hundreds of miles to spend time with family they only see once a year. And then they find out that once is way too often.
You can tell when you've eaten too much for Thanksgiving dinner when you stand up and feel the need to hang your stomach over the back of the chair.
It's not too much to eat. You've been training for this day all your life. It will be your finest hour -- it will be your Thanksgiving destiny.
Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving. -- W. T. Purkiser.
You are receiving your Thanksgiving edition of the Cars On Line newsletter early this week. Enjoy. The Cars On Line staff hopes you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

One of the rarest of American Motors muscle cars is the 1970 AMC Rebel Machine. They only produced 2,326 of them in 1970. Here is a beautifully kept example in the Bittersweet Orange metallic color. This one is being offered for sale this week at Fast Lane Classic Cars in St Charles, Missouri. They tell us it has only 72k original miles. Just look at all the detailed photos on the ad page. It has a 390 ci, 340 horsepower performance engine with a 4-barrel carburetor. and they tell us it is numbers matching. Note the functional Ram Air hood and hood mounted tach. View the photos and you will see how clean this car is. It has a center console, power steering, power disc brakes, factory air conditioning, dual mirros w/remote, tilt wheel and a padded dash. We think you'll be excited to find such a rare example of American muscle.
This is not just a vanilla 2011 Camaro 2SS. No, this is more a factory "rocket ship." It was ordered by someone who knew how to order a factory muscle car. This retro Camaro 2SS is being sold at Showdown Auto in Clinton Township, Michigan. They did a detailed walk-around video so you can see exactly what you are buying. Click the video window to get the full story.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be profiled in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
Pontiac was the last of the General Motors companies to produce muscle cars all the way through the 1970's and early 1980's. These 1970's Pontiac Trans Ams are very collectable. Here is a beautiful Mayan red 1978 Pontiac Trans Am being offered for sale by Showdown Auto out of Clinton Township, Michigan. It has the WS4 package and a 6.6L 400 ci 4-barrel V8 with automatic transmission and factory air conditioning. Follow this link to view a walk-around video. It checks all the boxes, but comes at an affordable price range. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday with an asking price of $19,900.
Is that Goldenrod yellow? A famous Thunderbird color. This 1955 Ford Thunderbird is being offered for sale by North Shore Classics in Mundelein, Illinois. Newsletter readers know that we always says, "if you find a first generation Ford Thunderbird for under $30,000 ... buy it." So here is one at a very affordable price point. They describe it as a quality driver class car (translates to No. 3 condition) with a 312 ci V8 and a manual transmission. The paint has some minor blmishs and minor chips. Here is a link to a complete walk-around video. Hear it run. Have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday with an asking price of $26,990.
Cruisin Classics in Columbus, Ohio tells us this 1946 Pontiac Sedan can be driven and enjoyed without hesitation. While it looks original, it comes with many upgrades that make it a driver. It now has cruise control, tilt steering, ice cold air conditioning and power disc brakes. It now has a more modern rear end and a later model subframe, all due to an older restoration. They say the pait is driver qulity but shows well. It has a 400 ci V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor, TH350 automatic transmission and looks good in the photos. Click here to review a nicely done walk-around video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an price set at $16,995.
Classic Studebakers inspire interest in the collector car market. The rarest ones are the 1940's and early 1950's Champions. That post-war look is quirky and unique. An internet broker called Classic Car Deals has come up with this 1949 Studebaker Champion Tudor Sedan for a very low price. It is a "fixer-upper" best left to a collector who knows what he's doing with these old cars. The owner says it needs some repair on the interior and needs a master cylinder. He says the floor pans are good. You may want to have it inspected before you buy. The seller says it runs quiet and has a good body, good floors and a new 6-volt battery. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is just $5,695.
As the muscle car era evolved and the Ford Ranchero moved to the Torino platform, the Ranchero benefitted from the performance packages available for the Torino. Thus evolved the muscle pickup truck, much like this 1968 Ford Ranchero being offered for sale at Streetside Classics in Phoenix, Arizona this week. Under the hood is Ford's mighty 302 cubic-inch V8. This hardy unit has been given performance upgrades like an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake, and long tube headers creating a sweet sound out of the dual exhaust. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. They are only asking $14,995.
Willys-Overland Motors was an American automobile company that developed the military Jeep for wartime during WWII. When the war was over they continued making the Jeep for civilian use and needed a crossover vehicle more like a car. They produced the Willys Jeepster, a convertible version of the Jeep Utility Wagon, with street use in mind. The Jeepster was made from 1948 until 1950. They are very collectible today. Classic Car Liquidators is offering this 1949 Willys Jeepster for sale this week. Click the link to view dozens of high resolution photos. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is $19,999.
If you are looking for a show winning custom lowrider pickup, you won't be able to take your eyes off this one. It is a 1993 Chevy Silverado Custom offered for sale by Humpty Dumpty Classic Cars out of Sarasota, Florida. This 1500 Chevy custom pickup is power by a V8 engine and an automatic 4-speed transmission with Custom 17" Billet Chrome 5-Spoke Custom Wheels w/10W Profile Tires, and a hydraulic lowering system. It comes with air conditioning, JVC custom CD stereo, power steering and brakes, power windows, tilt wheel and screamin custom paint. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price at $12,900.
