By 1964, Ford Motor Company was tired of the Mopar lightweights eating their lunch in the battle for NHRA drag racing dominance. Their Galaxie R Code 427's were capable performers in NASCAR, but they were way too heavy for the drag strip. So Ford decided to make lightweights out of their smaller Fairlane model. They added a monster intake system which was fed through the inner front headlight bezels and topped the hood with a teardrop shaped bubble, doming the air cleaner. Then Ford built about 100 of them and made sure they got into the hands of some of the best drag race teams in the country. Today their reputation at the drag strip is legendary.
This week, RK Motors Charlotte has one of these incredibly rare Ford Thunderbolts for sale. It was the car that was raced by Georgia native Phil "Daddy Warbucks" Bonner in NHRA Super Stock. It was No. 53 out of the 100 cars built by Ford Motor Company. It also comes with documentation by Ford verifying that it was the car built for Bonner.
The Thunderbolt ended up at a body shop near Stone Mountain, Georgia in the 1980's. Hal Reed, an expert engine builder who specialized in 427's, bought the car and then stored it for the next 40 years, always hoping to find the time to restore it. A noted restorer named Donald Allen persuaded Reed to sell him the car so he could finally restore it to its original livery. The car has now been restored and featured in major magazines. It is recognized by the Thunderbolt Owners Association and was inspected by Larry Davis, founder of the association.
RK Motors has done a full writeup on this historic car. Click here to read all about the 1964 Ford Thunderbolt at RK Motors Charlotte.

Our Thanksgiving Edition of the Cars-On-Line.com newsletter will be published early next week. Expect to get your Thanksgiving Edition of the newsletter on Wednesday evening, just in time to enjoy all Thanksgiving Weekend. We know buyers will have more time on their hands over the holiday. The newsletter experience will make it a little sweeter.
We'll see you next week at the 46th Annual Daytona Turkey Run, November 28 through December 1, 2019. We can't wait to get to the giant swap meet where we always find parts and accessories cheaper than anywhere else in the U.S. (Hint: if you like die-cast model cars, they've got some rare ones for really great prices.) And there will be cars for sale all over the Daytona Speedway. The promo says this is the biggest combined car show and swap meet in the country. It's big. That's for sure.
After the show each night you will want to take in Turkey Run Nights at the One Daytona, across the street from the Daytona Speedway. Shop, dine or play car games at the mall.
You could win a 1964 Chevy Impala SS in a raffle this year. Purchase your raffle tickets during registration or at Turkey Run Nights. There are activities for the whole family including the Kids Zone. Adult admission is $15, but children 11 and under are free.
Mopars are the hottest thing in the collector car market right now. That's what our Cars-On-Line.com data tells us this month. Over fifteen percent of the vehicles sold on Cars-On-Line.com this month have been Mopar musle cars. No other category is that strong. In second place among the most popular cars sold this month is the Chevrolet Chevelle. We have seen first generation (1965-66) Mustang convertibles are also popular when they are in a certain price range. Anything decent that is priced in the low $20,000's will sell quickly. Prices are dropping on these Mustang convertibles. There are buyers in the lower price ranges.
A 1957 Cadillac DeVille Series 62 Hardtop which was owned and enjoyed by Elvis Presley, is scheduled to be sold at the Riyadh Auction by Worldwide Auctioneers, Saturday November 23, 2019. Documentation by the Presley estate and a known owner history accompanies the sale. The "pink" Cadillac was a symbol of the rebellious trends of the 1950's with celebrities such as Elvis on the cutting edge of popular culture. Cadillac called it Mountain Laurel with a black hardtop. The Salon sale is a one-day event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in which some of the most rare and desirable collector cars in the world will be up for sale. It took 4 1/2 years to build this modern version of a 1964 Chevrolet Impala Convertible with an old school look and feel. San Francisco Bay area car clubs will be seeing this car a lot in 2020. They say the car was just completed in August of 2019. It is scheduled to be featured in Lowrider Magazine in early 2020. Look carefully at the photos and you'll see that this was a detailed build, born to be a show car. Already offered for sale by its owner, it is hitting the resale market while it is still fresh. You seldom get a chance to own a top show car before it has exposure on the national car scene. Here is an opportunity to acquire a new lowrider with old school appeal, and enjoy showing it in its prime. The Lowrider community is gonna' go nuts over this one.
The Raleigh Classic Auction is coming up fast now. Scheduled for December 6-7, 2019 in Raleigh, North Carolina, it is one of those events all the good ole boys from the Southeast know about. For some years now, Chris Lieth has sponsored this unique classic car auction drawing some really nice low-mile collector cars. It is the auction all the classic car dealers just can't miss. Even if you won't be there in person, you can register now to place your bids by phone or online.
Here is why you should get ready for the Raleigh Classic:
For some reason the Raleigh Classic seems to draw a large number of classic woody wagons. There will be many in this sale again this year in all price ranges. For example, here is a rare 1949 Mercury Woody Wagon which has won the Rouge Award. It comes from the world reknown collection of Nick Alexander. They tell us it is one of the finest examples of a rare wood bodied Mercury. It was restored at Alexander Restorations and retains is original wood. Notice the stylish wide whitewall tires.
Remember when Lincoln came out with their 1957 Continnental Mark II? (Don't call it a Lincoln, though. Ford wanted the buying public to think of the Continental Mark II as a new luxury line.) Only 444 new Mark II's were produced that year. With a price of over $10,000, this was the most expensive American automobile of the decade. What a great car to collect! This handsome black edition is a well-preserved older restoration in the original color. It still shows just 31k actual miles.
There are also going to be some desirable muscle cars available to bid on at the Raleigh Classic. Here is an ultra rare and important muscle car, a 1970 Buick Gran Sport Stage 1 Convertible which will be sold this year. With only 232 Stage 1 convertibles ever produced in 1970, this one is original and comes with the Protect-O-Plate. On it is the owner's name. Yes, it is still a one owner car. You'll see the 455 ci Ram Air V8 engine with a stout Turbo 400 automatic with Stage 1 performance. It is amazingly torquey with a 10-bolt Posi rear end. The color is a rare Sea Mist green.
If you miss the retro Pontiac GTO, you'll want to know all about this 2014 Chevrolet SS. Only 3,527 of these 2014 Chevrolet SS’s were built by GM/Holden in Australia and delivered to the US. This one is a one owner vehicle that had 3,311 miles at the time of consignment and is 100% original. Options and accessories include the Chevrolet MYLINK with navigation and blue tooth audio for music, rear vision camera, power outlets and more. It comes with an original window sticker, original owner's manual and a clean Carfax.
Also see these very rare lots to be sold at the Raleigh Classic:
1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe
1941 Cadillac Series 63
1949 Buick Super Convertible
1948 Chrysler Windsor Convertible
1966 Dodge Hemi Charger
1965 Chevrolet Corvette Fuellie 327/365
1971 Pontiac GTO Convertible

In the past few years, the hottest classic pickup truck to own has been the ultra hard-to-find International 1/2-ton pickup. Every hot rodder wants to customize one. So when Unique Specialty & Classics listed this 1948 International KB-1 Pickup for sale this week we knew we had to show it to you here. They even gave us a very interesting walk-around video so you can hear it run. The all steel body along with custom fabricated fenders and running boards make it an attractive street rod package to own. They say it runs and drives great. Click the video window above to view the walk-around inspection.

The Last Detail, a collector car dealer in North Chicago, Illinois, is offering a very interesting 1965 Cadillac Calais for sale. What is amazing about this car is how original it remains. After all, it has less than 4,600 original miles on the odometer. They say the paint and interior are 100 percent original. It has the big 429 ci 340 hp Cadillac motor. What a find!
The following are more Low Miles cars listed this week:
2008 Bullitt Mustang GT, Streetside Classics, NC, under 16k actual miles

With a chopped top and lots of new parts, the private party owner of this 1947 Ford Coupe tells us it runs and drives great. The lead sled from Davenport, Florida is not done, but would be easy to finish, according to the owner. It has an '84 Camaro 305 motor and lots of new parts.
The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:

The hot offering in the PRICE REDUCED feature this week is a rare muscle car. A private party seller from Pennsylvania listed his 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS L78 with the highly desirable 375 horsepower 396 ci big block motor. At the time he was asking $70,000 which is not that much for such a rare muscle car. But this week he reduced the asking price to $55,000. Now, that brings a whole lot more possible buyers into the mix.
You'll find hundreds more PRICE REDUCED vehicles on the Price Reduced Feed today. Here are just a few:

If you've been thinking about owning a Yenko Camaro, here is a real interesting opportunity. Classical Gas Motors in Texas is selling a Cortez Silver 1969 Yenko Camaro Tribute for their client. Although the engine is dressed as the 427 Yenko motor it is actually a larger 454 H.O. GM Mark 6 crate motor with a 750 Holley double pumper. They just dropped the price to $44,000. Great price on an authentic looking Yenko tribute.

Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! But you'll always have first shot at them here in the newsletter each week.
The first year Buick Skylark Gran Sport has always been a great muscle car. It is the cousin to the Chevelle Malibu and Pontiac GTO. But, for whatever reason, it just does not get the same respect as its GM kin. Here is a 1965 Buick Skylark GS Convertible being offered for sale by Unique Specialty & Classics out of Mankato, Minnesota. They are a big classic car wholesaling operation. Every once in a while they will come up with an interesting muscle car like this one. Look through the dozens of detailed photos to determine the condition class. Or have it inspected through our Cars-On-Line.com inspection service. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because they're only asking $17,900.
While Ford never actually produced a Speedster from the factory, the Model T was so infinitely versatile that it could be easily modified. A Speedster kit was available to order through the Sears & Roebuck catalog. An early hot rod, many of the Speedsters you see were just custom built. Here is a 1924 Ford Model T Speedster being offered for sale by Motorcar Studio in Atlanta, Georgia. They put together an interesting walk-around video. In the video they start it up and "with a sputter and a prayer" like a Model T should. Click here to view the video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. You can own this piece of history for just $14,900.
With a bullet-nose, suicide doors, and a button-top interior, this 1950 Studebaker Champion has everything a collector could want in a truly unique Amerian classic. In fact, Studebakers like this one are highly sought after as centerpieces in many top collections. The hood ornament, stainless rocker trim, and W5 designation on the tag may indicate that this was a Regal Deluxe model. Shining chrome bumpers, complete badging, factory wheel covers, and whitewall tires complete a terrific total vintage look. This is the one you want. What we can't believe is the price. It is being offered for sale today by Streetside Classics in Phoenix, Arizona. They are only asking $18,995.
Oh, my, this 1941 Ford Tudor Deluxe Sedan is really clean. Doesn't it look good in the photos. If you are looking for a piece of history that is very original, here it is. The seller says that with a few minor exceptions it is very true to the original. It comes with the Flathead V8, 3-speed manual transmission and both the motor and transmission are said to have been gone through and refurbished about two years ago. They have less than 500 miles since the redo, says the private seller from St Maries, Idaho. He says the maroon paint is very good, interior is like new and still has the original 194 AM radio which works. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week. The asking price is $14,500.
Classic Car Liquidators has come up with another great find. It is a 1971 Chevrolet Suburban, the Chevrolet version utility vehicle. You won't find a lot of these out there. Just look at the photos in this ad. This has a remarkably clean looking undercarriage. It has the big block 400 V8 motor and a Turbo 400 transmission. The interior is a little worn and soiled. So there is some work that needs to be done there. But is it worth restoring? Only a pre-purchase inspection can tell you more about that, but the body and undercarriage look solid in the photos. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The askingprice is affordable at $17,999.
For Chevrolet collectors here is a rare one. You just don't see many 1940's classic Chevrolets that have been preserved in original condition. This is a 1941 Chevrolet Special Deluxe 2-Door Sedan which is being sold by a Kansas collector. He describes it as being a rust free Western car with trunk and floors in very solid condition with just a little light surface rust showing. He says the lights, horn, wipers and gauges all work. Even the radio still plays. The turn signals were added, and they also work. The owner's son is selling it for his dad. He says dad has driven it less than 50 miles since 1975. You should have it inspected before you buy. But hurry. They are asking just $16,000.
A Pennsylvania private seller is using Classic Car Deals, an internet broker, to sell his 1966 Chevelle Malibu 2-Door Post muscle car. They tell us that it is powered by a 350 small block motor with a 350 transmission. They say it has a 10-bolt positraction rear end with 3.70 gears, dual exhaust with headers and a new carburetor. It has power steering, and power brakes with front discs. Although they don't show it in the photos, they say the frame, floors and body are very clean. They do say it runs strong. You should definitely have it inspected before you buy to know what kind of shape it is in. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is $17,995.
