When Frank DeRosa took his son to see the Oakland Roadster Show in 1978, little did he know that it would change his life. Frank, Jr. asked his dad if he had ever built a custom car. From then on Frank, Jr. would not only discover his dad's hidden skills at custom car building, he would partner with him in building some of the most famous classic customs ever to come from the West Coast.
One of their popular custom show cars is the Golden Pirhana, a 1966 Buick Riviera Custom which was featured in magazines as well as on the car show circuit. You may remember it if you grew up on the West Coast. This week you have a chance to buy this popular custom show car at a very affordable price. It is being offered for sale by a private collector from Woodland Hills, California.
This beautiful 1966 Riviera known as the "Golden Piranha" was built in 1983. It travelled the custom car show circuit for many years. You will see that it has a '50s style padded top. But new for that era, DeRosa added a moonroof to the padded top. The hood was peaked and V-ed at the front to match the '51 Mercury grille. Then the lower grille was reshaped symetrically and rolled under creating a roll pan effect. There are no bumpers. Then the front fenders were extended and reshaped with rounded front edges. The small square headlights were fitted into hand made pods, then chrome plated to complement the Mercury grille. A very unusual, one-off set of tail lights were incorporated with a glowing light effect for the turn signals.
The paint was another one-off candy Lime Gold which Frank mixed himself and used an unconventional way of making the metallic flakes sparkle with crushed glass in the undercoat. Although the car was sold to a private collector a couple years after the build, Frank and his son have reunited with the car in the past year. It was gone through and is in very road worthy condition, says the seller. He says it has an Air Ride system now, whereas it was originally all hydraulics. It still has the original paint, patina and all. It is important to note that the price is very reasonable. Seldom do you get a chance to own an historic show piece such as this.
Be sure to follow this link to our MyDreamCar.online blog page where you will find a more detailed history of the DeRosas and their historic builds. If you have stories about the DeRosas or their cars you can contribute them in the comments section at the end of the article.

Arlen Ness, the King of Choppers, will always be remembered as much for his being a good person as for his tremendous talent for designing custom motorcycles. He passed away on March 22, 2019 at home with his family. He was one of the most creative and inspirational motorcycle builders ever. Starting in 1970 with a custom Harley Knucklehead he built in his garage, he built a custom parts empire and remains one of the most innovative builders of our time. His shop in Dublin, California is now run by his son, Cory, and his grandson, Zach. There is even an Arlen Ness Museum there where some of his beautiful custom bikes are on display. He was a man who truly appreciated people and with few words could say a lot.
In the past week one car was viewed more than any other on Cars-On-Line.com. It is a 1968 Chevy Nova Pro Street ground pounder being sold by a private seller from Davison, Michigan. Just in the last seven days it has been viewed 971 times. That is a lot of looks for any ad on the internet. The seller tells us that no money was spared in the build. He says he has all the build information documented. It has a NHRA Certified 750 moly cage, chute and window net. You'll see that it is mini tubbed. It runs on premium pump gas. The seller tells us it runs 8.5 in the ¼ mile. Evidently the nitrous was never sprayed. You can see the fresh professionally built 540 ci motor with fogger and plate, and they say it has been dyno'd at 970 hp on motor with Dart 360 aluminum heads. It is equipped with a 3200 stall converter, and 4.10 gears. This one sounds as good as it looks.

Few classic muscle cars will have such a fuss made over them. But this 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Convertible was worth all the hullabaloo. The Ram Air III Judge won the 2018 Concourse Award at the Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals in Chicago. Subsequently it was featured on the cover of Hemmings Motor News magazine with a huge feature story inside. It is for sale this week at Prestige Motor Car Company in Clifton Park, New York. Part of the reason for all the comotion about this one is that it has achieved the highest level of restoration. And it comes with impeccable documentation including the orignial build sheet (see photo of it under the seat), and window sticker (also verified in photos.) You'll want to view the photos of the undercarriage. Man, it is so clean you could eat off it. It is a 4-speed car which came with factory air conditioning. Prestige tells us it is "guaranteed" the finest GTO Judge Convertible in existence.
Peter Kumar's Gullwing Motor Cars in Astoria, New York has just posted a 1982 Lamborghini Countach Series II LP400 S which he says is the "second to the last one produced." One of 105 low-body models preserving the lowered suspension, ride height, and body of the earlier LP400, it is rare for that alone. Red with tan leather interior, this stunning example has been under the same Santa Barbara California ownership since 1991 and has just 18k original kilometers. Its production series number would indicate that it is the second to the last Series II LP400 S produced. That was the last of the Gandini styled Countach models. To the purist, these are the most desirable of the Countach bodies. Gullwing Motor Cars has this one available in red. It is one of the most prized of the original styled Countach models produced.

Carlisle Events is taking consignments for their Spring Carlisle Auction, April 25-26, 2019. Already they are signing up a stellar lineup of collector cars to be auctioned off during the famous Spring Carlisle Car Show, April 24-28, 2019. Held every year in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, this is one of the biggest collector events in the country.
Here are some of the early consigns you will see auctioned off this year:
The best of everything is all wrapped up in this classic Corvette muscle car being offered to the highest bidder at the Spring Carlisle Auction this year. A 1966 Corvette 427/425 hp Roadster is being offered. The popular Milano Maroon paint complements the Gold line tires and sidepipes. It is so nice that it has won the NCRS Top Flight Award. It comes with a 4-speed close ration manual transmission, rare headrest seats, telescopic steering column and they say it is a matching numbers example. Big block roadsters are the top classic Corvettes in existence. This one will be a trophy for some lucky bidder.
The value put on wood bodied station wagons these days gets pretty heady. But you might be able to pick up this 1952 Buick Super Woodie Estate Wagon at a reasonable price at the Spring Carlisle Auction in Pennsylvania next month. The consignment information says it has a 263 ci inline Fireball 8 cylinder engine with automatic transmission. It now has an independent front suspension with a live rear axle, 4-wheel power assisted hydraulic brakes and air conditioning. It has also been converted to 12-volt electricals. The Cream Beige exterior is contrasted with an Oxblood red interior.
The 1959 Chevrolet Apache Pickup is visually stunning in its Sierra Gold over Adobe Beige flawless, two-tone paint. This is the desirable Big Window Apache 1/2-Ton Fleetside version with the original chrome spears. They say it has perfect fit and finish. Obviously it was restored and is considered a resto rod mild custom original. Powered by an LT1 V8 motor and mated to a 700R4 automatic transmission with overdrive, it is very nicely equipped. You'll love the old school Smitty's mufflers and dual original spotlights. Otherwise it has original appearance throughout.
They say it is the best one available in America today. The promoters are talking about this 1968 Camaro SS 396 L78 big block car. It just underwent a brand new professional concourse rotisserie restoration completed December 2018. They say it comes with its numbers matching and born with ''MQ'' 396 c.i./375 hp motor, a correct M-22 4-speed transmission with Hurst shifter, and original and born with ''BU'' 12-bolt posi rear end with 3:73 gears. In the promotional materials they say it was inspected and certified by Jerry MacNeish, a Camaro expert. It is listed and registered with the International L78 Registry. Only 4,475 were ever built, very few numbers matching examples still exist.

Coyote Classics just listed a 1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye H code that is nicely priced and looks great in their video. It comes with a 340 4-barrel and 4-speed. They say it has about 1,000 miles on it since a complete nut and bolt restoration back in 2004. You'll find out more about the car in the informative video presentation. What a find! It comes with a 383 Magnum big block Mopar motor, original H code 335 hp, automatic transmission and a 323 rear gear. Both the engine and transmission have been rebuilt, he says. He says there is no rust underneath. This seller from Danville, Indiana wanted to make sure everyone knows that this is not actually a factory Hemi Cuda. That said, here is a really nice 1970 Plymouth Cuda Convertible which has a '70 Hemi 426 motor. The owner says he has over $200,000 invested in the build, so you know there is some quality work done here. This is a high end tribute that you may want to consider for your driver car. It has power brakes, Rallye cluster, leather interior, 15x7 rims, and a rear wing. It is painted with B-7 blue.

This is a banner week for low price bargains. The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature of the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
We could hardly contain ourselves this week. A 1965 Pontiac GTO with a 389 and a Tripower has been listed for a very affordable price. Yes, a real Tripower car, according to Cruisin' Classics, the classic car dealer who posted it for sale. They hail from Columbus, Ohio and they have posted this incredible walk-around video of the car. You have to hear it rumble with those Tripower carbs revving. This is a real sweet and clean muscle car with all the numbers to document it, and it comes with the Pontiac Historical Society report. It doesn't get any better than this for Pontiac enthusiasts. Here is a real Tripower GTO for a great price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the asking price is only $29,995. We can't believe it either. Hurry! We don't expect this one to last the weekend.
Here is another great deal that is very affordably priced. A 1956 Mercury Montclair 2-Dr Hardtop is being offered for sale by a private seller from Eastpointe, Michigan. It really takes a good picture. In fact, it is a mild custom Merc with a 312 ci V8 motor that has been well kept and remains very clean. The seller says it is straight and solid, no rust in the trunk or floor and "clean as a whistle." The chrome and stainless glistens like it was just freshened. The car is largely original with matching numbers, according to the ad coy. The seller says it starts and drives and sounds great. He says you can drive it anywhere with the new tires having less than 50 miles. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday with an incredible asking price. He is asking only $14,950. You have to admit that is a lotta' car for the money.
Once again Beverly Hills Car Club has uncovered a great muscle car and are offering it for a discounted price. Here is a 1972 Corvette which they have just posted for sale. The red Corvette comes with T-Tops, a very desirable feature for the era. Beverly Hills Car Club tells us it is numbers matching and comes in a beautiful color combination, red with a brown interior. It has the automatic transmission, air conditioning, power steering and comes with the solid wheels. They tell us it is a very presentable example and would make an excellent weekend driver. According to their analytics it is "mechanically sound." As you know, we always recommend a pre-purchase inspection before you buy. They have dozens of detailed photos in their ad. So check it out. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price of $18,750. It would be hard to find a classic Corvette at such a low price. Interesting.
The 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe is one of the most popular classic Ford body styles in all of history. We think the styling of the front grille combined with the "tear drop" shaped headlights are the main attractions. They made over 33,000 of these 5-window coupes that year. This was the first year for sealed beam headlights. This one has been restored as a resto rod. It hs the 327 V8 engine, automatic transmission, tilt column, power steering, disc brakes. The private seller from Hibbing, Minnesota says it has nice chrome and stainless. He says it comes with a new suspension, springs, front end and new wiring. It has a very nice retro interior and remains an all-steel car. Although it is an older build with traditional custom features, it still looks good and is a nice driver quality ride. With that it will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is only $25,000. It woulld be hard to find a '40 this nice for the price.
When Chrysler brought back retro the Dodge Challenger R/T's it seemed that they would all be collector cars. You never dreamed that you would be able to buy one like this 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Plus for a discounted price. But today Prestige Motor Car Company out of Clifton Park, New York has busted that baloon. Here they have a very desirable R/T with the Super Track Pak option and limited edition Hemi hood scoop and a track tuned suspension. This is also one of the 100th Anniversary Editions with Nappa leather power adjustable heated seats. They tell us it is a one-owner car with only 15k original miles. What's more it has the 5.7L Hemi engine with a 6-speed manual transmission. Man, it has everything you could want, including preferred equipment package, premium sound with Bluetooth and 7-speaker Boston Acoustic surround sound, Parksense parking assist, performance steering and much, much more. What we can't believe it the low price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $26,999.
If you were looking for a sports car back in the early 1960's one of the most popular was the Ford Falcon Futura, Ford's best offering prior to the Mustang. These cars are still among the favorites for Baby Boomers today. This week, Classic Car Liquidators in Sherman, Texas posted a 1963 Ford Falcon Futura Convertible for sale that has a great look and stance. It has the inline six cylinder 170 ci engine, and automatic transmission. This one came with a power top, center console and bucket seats. It looks like a driver quality car that is clean, and has a white exterior with contrasting blue interior and blue colored parade boot. This is one you should have inspected to prove its driveability. As we said, it looks as though it is a driver quality car. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week as the price is only $16,999.
Prestige Motor Car Company out of Clifton Park, New York also listed a very interesting limited edition sport car. We have always seen this 2005 Cadillac XLR Convertible as a high end sports car, with performance similar to a Corvette. That puts it in a class that would be collectible some day. Interestingly, for the present this one is being priced as a "used car." This may be an opportunity. Many of these Cadillac sports cars were gobbled up by celebrities and high performance buffs when they were first introduced. It has the retractable hardtop which Prestige says works very well. It comes loaded with exotic options such as air filtration and much more. Looks through dozens of detailed photos in the ad to see an interior that sparkles. It will be our DEAL of the DAY by the end of the week if it lasts that long. The asking price is $16,999. That's a lotta' car for the price.
