Why we used to build cars with wood bodies is an inexplicable part of North American history. No where else in the world did this practice exist. The fact that wood craftsmen and furniture builders were asked to do most of the early customizing on vintage automobiles has something to do with it. But the popularity of wood bodied automobiles has never died. Today they are exponentially more valuable than other vintage automobiles.
This week, a Canadian car collector from Winnipeg, Manitoba listed his 1939 Ford Woody Wagon for sale in the Station Wagon section of the Cars-On-Line.com website. It is so nicely restored that it was invited to participate in the 2018 Cobble Beach Concours D'Elegance, the exclusive collector car show along the Georgian Bay in Kember, Ontario. The seller says it is one of the nicest wood bodied wagons in existence.
The 1939 Ford Woody Wagon, a desirable original early V8 Ford, was treated to a professional nut and bolt, body-off restoration to high quality standards. It is powered by a 221 ci Flathead motor and backed by a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The seller says it starts easily and idles smoothly.
For a history of woody wagons and how they changed the North American landscape, you can read this week's MyDreamCar.online blog post. Be sure to leave a comment in the box below the story. We love to hear your stories about your family's woody station wagon.

Wild About Cars.com just published their No Limits Magazine online for June. In this edition there is a great history of the development of the Ford 427 SOHC and its Chrysler 426 Hemi competitor. It is interesting how the two motors evolved, one pushing the other for NASCAR dominance. The story also covers how NASCAR was forced to homologate engines in order to make it fair for manufacturers. These two engines were the reason. Click here to read the article by Wild About Cars.com. The article has lots of interesting diagrams of the engines. An historically significant classic car has been listed for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, this week. They posted a 1959 Facel Vega HK500, the French luxury car. Facel was a French aircraft company which transitioned into building cars for European auto manufacturers in partnership with Metallion. They decided to build their own luxury car with some success in the 1950's. This iconic 1959 Facel Vega HK500 is done in one of the most vibrant color combinations. It comes equipped with an automatic transmission and a V8 engine, power windows, disc brakes, power steering, OEM radio and solid wheels. Beverly Hills Car Club tells us it is a classic car with strong investment potential. Many celebrities were known to have owned Facel Vegas giving it a high profile. Facel went out of business in 1964. The HK500 was produced from 1959 until 1962. Only 489 were ever built.

In their first two years, the 1953 and 1954 Buick Skylarks were only offered as convertibles. This was an exclusive luxury automobile which gave Cadillac a run for its money among wealthy American new car buyers. Today, Shelton Classics in Mooresville, North Carolina has this Malibu blue 1954 Buick Skylark Convertible for sale. It comes with the 322 ci V8 engine and an automatic 2-speed transmission. The list of options includes power windows, power drum brakes, power steering, clock, chrome wheels, body side moldings, power antenna and an AM radio. Of the first two years of production, there were fewer Skylarks produced in 1954 with only 836 ever built. To many Buick collectors they have become more valuable than the first-year 1953 editions.

One of the most interesting video ads in this week's New Listings is done by North Shore Classics out of Mundelein, Illinois. Tom Demski gives us a look at a 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo which just arrived at the dealership. He tells us "it is just a really nice car." Clean and straight, he shows how the factory panels fit and gives us a close look at a nice vinyl top. He points out the details on the interior, showing some wear in the carpet. Overall, the video becomes a nice inspection for the potential buyer. Click here to view the walk-around video on this Monte Carlo, a driver quality car you can own for just $17,500.

Flemings Ultimate Garage tells us their 1972 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible is the lowest mile example in the collector car hobby right now. Their ad says this classic muscle car has only 1,650 original miles from new!! That's amazing. They say it has had the same owner for the first 42 years. He told them his father was an Oldsmobile dealer so he just checked all the right boxes on the order form. The mileage statement comes with a notarized affidavit. They say it is an original matching #'s W29 442 convertible, one of only 1,029 built.

The Illinois private collector called it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity when he listed his 1937 LaSalle Convertible for sale earlier in June. This is a desirable dual sidemount version with a rumble seat and only 40k actual miles, according to the ad copy. There were only 995 convertibles produced. It is very original. In view of that he originally was asking $295,000 for the vintage cabriolet. But just this week he dropped the price to $125,000. It is our PRICE REDUCED feature for this week.

We have been seeing a lot of first generation Ford Thunderbirds in the DEAL of the DAY here in the COL newsletter recently. The reason is that so many have been restored over the years. More than most classic car models. That's because the remain very popular. But you know what we always say ... "if you find one for under $30,000 ... buy it." Today we have one being offered for way less. This 1957 Ford Thunderbird comes from Playtoys, a classic car dealer in Redlands, California. It comes equipped with a 312 ci V8 with a 4-barrel carb, automatic transmission, drum brakes, new starter, original AM radio, bend seat, dual exhaust and stock 14" wheels. It also comes with the auxiliary hardtop. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday because the asking price on this very desirable classic is only $18,995. Hurry!

This is the sleeper among the DEAL of the DAY offerings this week. Cars-On-Line newsletter readers know how desirable the 1940 Ford cars are in the street rod hobby. Coupes, sedans and convertibles made by Ford in 1940 are some of the most highly sought after vehicles in the collector car hobby. Street rodders really love the tear drop headlights in the front valance on the '40 models. This one is a 1940 Ford Tudor Sedan Deluxe being offered for sale by a private seller in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It has a 350 V8 engine, Turbo 350 transmission, power steering, power disc brakes up front, new aluminum radiator, custom gauges and dual exhaust. The seller says it rides and drives right on a '77 Monte Carlo running rear. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday as the asking price is only $12,500. That's a lotta' car for the money.

Dodge Power Wagons are among the most interesting pickup trucks ever produced. The name conjures up images of the World War II "monster" trucks that would run through anything in their path. After the war Dodge created a tamer version of the battlefield bashers, putting the name Power Wagon on a regular line of pickup trucks. These are very collectibe. This 1976 Dodge Power Wagon is an original unmolested example offered for sale by a private seller in San Marcos, California. He says it is all stock and recently passed its California smog inspection and still has onlyl 53k original miles. It comes with power steering, power brakes, factory air conditioning which has been upgraded, and a manual 4-speed. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week as the private seller is looking for $17,800.

There are a high number of classic Mustang convertibles available for sale in this week's newsletter. But this 1966 Mustang Convertible from Beverly Hills Car Club is the lowest priced. It may be more of a restoration project than a daily driver, but only a pre-purchase inspection will tell that story. It is blue with a blue interior, and comes equipped with an automatic transmission and V8 engine. This one has air conditioning, power steering and a power top. Look at all the photos that Beverly Hills Car Club has in their ad. This would be a good example of a car you should have inspected before you buy. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. Their asking price is very attractive at only $16,750.
