Why is it that the Boss 429 Mustang is so valuable compared to other muscle cars of the same era? History tells us that the only reason Ford produced the Boss 9 Mustang was to homologate the Boss 429 engine for NASCAR. The motor was never practicable for drag racing (topped out too early at 4500 rpm), so it had only one purpose. Thus Ford phased out the Boss 9 program after 1970. So few were produced that they are super rare today. They are worth twice the value of a Hemi Cuda or a Shelby Mustang.
A Raven black 1969 Boss 429 Mustang was recently listed for sale by a private collector from the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. Of the five colors in which you could order a Boss 9 that year, Raven black was the most rare. Only 93 were ever produced. This is one of them. It was originally sold by a dealer in Michigan. The seller says it still has the original paint and interior.
Although it seems to be a survivor, the seller says the engine compartment was freshened back to original. Having been maintained in a climate controlled facility, it is in amazing condition. (You can view a photo bucket of pictures, which include photos of the undercarriage and detailed shots of the interior.) The seller says it was rustproofed at the dealer back in the day.
The 1969 Boss 429 Mustang has just over 8,600 miles showing, and is fully documented with Marti report, build sheet, original license plates and history since new.
Want to know what it feels like to have the monster semi-hemi Boss 429 under the hood? This would be your ticket. Today, on the MyDreamCar.online blog site we have published a short history of the Boss 9 Mustangs. Read about its homologation for NASCAR. Then tell us your Boss 9 stories in the comments section below the article. We love to here the memorable moments our readers have from back in the day.

As the Hot Rod Power Tour arrived at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana on Thursday, smokin' tires and hot runs on the drag strip made it very obvious why the Power Tour is so popular. There was an endless line of hot rodders lined up to run the NHRA track, and a huge car show with long-haulers congregated nearby. Click this link to the Hot Rod Magazine website to read the story. The Power Tour ends today, Friday, June 14 at the Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. Long-Haulers will receive their certificates tomorrow, June 15, 2019 at the closing ceremonies in Norwalk. This was the 25th Annual Hot Rod Power Tour, with over 6,000 vehicles registered for the tour. They estimate that over 100,000 spectators gathered each night at the six locations along the tour route from Charlotte, North Carolina to Norwalk, Ohio. It is the largest traveling car show in the world.
Missed the Power Tour this year? Be sure to read the Cars-On-Line.com Car Show Calendar of Events so you won't miss big events like this again.
One of the gearheads that we follow on Twitter is Wok @jwok_714, who posted this interesting short video of a 1957 Chevy with a blown and supercharged small block engine. He posted, "#FridayMorning #Music", a short video with sound so you can hear this healthy Monster Motor breath. Click here to listen to the engine. When we saw the post we just had to re-Tweet this one. We also re-Tweet'd another of his exceptional Tweets earlier. It is a short video showing the nicest undercarriage we have ever seen. You have to view this video. Click here to view the undercarriage of the year Tweet from Wok. It is just a taste of the eclectic array of posts you will see on the Cars-On-Line.com Twitter page. The most popular car on the internet this week is a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner from Rutledge, Tennessee. The B5 blue Mopar is being offered for sale by a private party collector. He says it is a restored, numbers matching 383 ci high performance muscle car with an Air Grabber hood, 727 Torqueflite transmission and 323 Suregrip rear end. Our analytics say it has been viewed 653 times in the past seven days. It is a really sweet Mopar muscle car for the money. The seller is only asking $33,000. A 1967 Chevelle SS Resto Mod, a SEMA show car, being offered by a private seller from Carthage, North Carolina, got the second most pageviews this week. It had been viewed by 626 buyers.

If you are an enlightened car collector you might think there is nothing hotter in the market today than a first generation Chevy Nomad. Well, we have actually found something more desirable than the vaunted Nomad. This 1955 Pontiac Safari Wagon is the Nomad cousin that is even more rare than a Nomad. This one is being offered for sale by Legendary Motors of Beverly, Massachusetts. It is believed that only 3,760 Safari's were built for the 1955 model year. This one came from the factory with power steering and brakes, power windows, air conditioning, under hood light, sun visor, leather interior and the innovative traffic light finder. Have it inspected and you will find that this older restoration still holds up. See if you agree that this would be an investable collector find.
We are just two weeks away from the Raleigh Classic Auction in Raleigh, North Carolina, June 21-22, 2019. We see the fresh consignments growing daily. What a great lineup of classic '50s cars, vintage classics, muscle cars and classic customs already in the auction inventory. The auction will be held at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. You don't want to miss this one.
Here are some of the recent listings just to whet your whistle:
One of the star cars for the Raleigh Classic Auction in two weeks will be an elegant 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible which was just restored in 2015. The stunning yellow paint is a deep contract to the crimson leather interior. It has all new glass, a padded dash and even comes with the innovative Autronic eye dimmer system, signal-seeking radio, remote trunk lid, power steering, power brakes, power seats and power windows.
A rare 1968 Shelby GT500 in Acapulco blue will be one of the featured muscle cars you'll be able to bid on at the Raleigh Classic Auction. They say it has had a complete rotisserie restoration, is fully documented and has just 54,576 miles. It is equipped with the 428 police interceptor engine and factory 4 speed manual transmission. Still retaining its original interior, it comes with the roll bar with shoulder harness, Lucas fog lights, oil cooler, Goodyear polyglas tires, power steering, power disc brakes, tilt away steering wheel, and tachometer.
The subject of a no expense spared restoration, this 1948 Mercury Eight Convertible was striking car for its time. The restoration was fully documented with all receipts that the new owner will get with purchase, as well as the factory owner's manual. It is equipped with a 239 cid L-head V8, 3-speed manual column shift transmission, solid front axle and live rear axle with transverse semi-elliptic leaf springs and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.
One of the rarest collector vehicles in the whole auction is this 1954 International Traval All, thought of as a forerunner of the sport utility vehicles of today. This unique IHC Travel All is equipped with a 6 cycle engine and 3 speed transmission. It features 3 row seating, clam shell rear door and radio. The auction company says it runs and drives out very well. NOTE: They have estimated the value at $25,000. Sounds cheap by any stretch.
Also see these very rare lots:
1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible
1941 Ford Super Deluxe
1949 Chrysler Town & Country Woody Convertible
1947 Chris Craft Runabout
1959 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Convertible
2003 Saleen Mustang S281
1956 Ford Fairlane Victoria
1932 Ford 5-Window Coupe
1998 Chance Trolley
And there are so many more on the docket already for the Raleigh Classic Auction this year. Click this link to see more of their auction inventory.
Just posted for sale this week, a 1950 Ford Deluxe is featured in an interesting walk-around video produced by Classic Cars of Sarasota. It is rare to find one this original, and the video does a marvelous job of showing that for you. You'll see the patina and the nice original chrome. Just look at the nice straight sheet metal. Really impressive. Wait till you hear the Flathead rumble through aftermarket dual exhaust. There is wear and tear on the interior, but not as much as you would think for a car this old. Click here to view the video, or click the video window above.

In 1953 and 1954 an aftermarket production company called Henney was active in building service vehicles, such as ambulances or limousines. They came up with the idea of producing a smaller platform ambulance based on a Packard. This 1954 Henney Packard Junior Ambulance is one of only 120 produced that year. Chicago Car Club has it for sale. They say the No 3 cylinder is frozen. Watch the walk-around video on this poject for restoration.

With Judge stripes and emblems, this 1970 Pontiac GTO might be considered a tribute. But unlike other muscle car clones, this is a real GTO to begin with. It is offered for sale by Cool Cars out of Pompano Beach, Florida. It comes with the rear spoiler, bucket seats, a console and the 400 ci Pontiac motor with an automatic transmission. This one has power steering, power brakes and Ralley wheels. The seller says it has some paint chips. Look closely at the walk-around video provided by Cool Cars. They say it runs and drives and sounds great. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday with an asking price set at $28,500.
Although Chevy Sedan Deliveries are very popular, you never see one of these. This is a 1951 Pontiac Sedan Delivery just posted by a private seller from Wellington, Alabama. He says the two-tone paint is correct for this vehicle. It is equpped with a Straight 8 engine and Hydromatic automatic transmission. The seller says it is an older restoration. You can see from the photos that there is a lot to like about this rare sedan delivery. You should have a pre-purchase inspection to see if it drives and runs as well as it looks. But you might want to hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday as the asking price is only $18,000.
Corvettes are the Gold Standard in collector cars. So you don't expect to see one listed here in the DEAL of the DAY. Yet here one is. It is a 1969 Corvette Stingray Convertible with the small block 350 engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. The private seller from Augusta County, Virginia says it is a great running and driving car. There were no options on this sports car back in the day, but it does have both tops, says the seller. That means it comes with the auxiiary hardtop and a convertible softtop. Notice the Ralley wheels, caps and trim rings. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday because the asking price is just $15,995.
A private seller from Lena, Mississippi has just listed his 1976 Pontiac Trans Am for sale. He indicates in the ad description that this is a numbers matching Arizona car, with cold air conditioning, power windows, power brakes and the special Deluxe interior. The Mississippi man says you can drive it anywhere. Amazingly it still has the original carburetor, exhaust, muffler and chrome tips. It also comes with a build sheet, a red dot radio (still works perfectly) and an 8-track player (also works as good as new). Although the seller does not indicate the current condition or how it drives, you can have it inspected before you buy. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is $23,500.
Mercury Lead Sleds are so popular you would normally not expect them to be offered here in the DEAL of the DAY at discounted prices. So it was pretty exciting when we realized this 1950 Mercury Lead Sled was just posted this week. They say it comes with a Flathead 8 and a 3-speed manual transmission on the column. The seller says the engine runs well. It still has crank windows, but the seller says it comes with new paint and interior. It even has a car cover. The opportunity to own a classic custom Mercury like this one may not come along very often. Have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is only $18,500.
Some collectors remember when they came out with fiberglass replicas of the 1957 Ford Thunderbird. Here is one of them. It has a Ford 302 roller rocker motor which they say is only nine months old and has only three miles on it. The replica body has just 22k miles since it was built. It comes with an automatic transmission with overdrive, padded dash, power steering, power disc brakes and cold air conditioning. This replica has a removable hardtop. It comes with stock original 1957 TBird hubcaps and optional fender skirts. Remember to have it inspected before you buy. You do want to find out how it drives. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is only $17,500.
Canadian collectors will know all about this 1953 Mercury Meteor Mainline. Not many from the U.S. have ever seen them before. It is a Mercury product sold in Canada, and came with a Flathead 239 ci V8 with an automatic transmission. They say this car was fully restored prior to the year 2000. When new it was purchased from a Mercury dealership and kept in the same family ever after. The seller from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada says it comes in the original color with all original systems and includes the bias ply tires. He says everything works except the fuel gauge. The price is so low it will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. Just think, you could own this classic Mercury for just $15,500.
