Few collectors seem to understand how rare the K Code option was in the first generation Ford Mustangs. There are so many K Code "wanna be's" out there in the collector car market today it is very hard to tell the real ones from the fakes. A Texas collector has just posted a real K Code 1966 Mustang GT Fastback for sale this week. He noted many of the things to look for in his Slide Show ad this week. It is a veritable lesson in K Code identification. Take a minute to learn what you need to know in buying a real first generation K Code Mustang. (View the Slideshow ad here.)
Ford made K Code Mustangs available to Shelby American where Carroll Shelby built his legendary Shelby Mustangs. He would take a K Code Mustang with the factory HiPo 289 factory rated at 271 horsepower, and tweak them to up to 310 horsepower for his Shelby Mustangs. In 1965, all the K Codes were 4-speed cars. They had quicker steering than the regular Mustangs plus heavy-duty suspension and a 9-inch rear end. Remember, Carroll Shelby was building his Mustangs mainly for race competition.
The seller tells us, "To me the most important thing when buying a significant car like a K Code are the date codes on it to prove it has original parts. There are a great number of cars out there that are made up from reproduction parts. As you can see, that is not the case on this car. Almost every piece on this car is date coded; even the most obscure."
For more K Code history and information you may want to read our report in the MyDreamCar.online blog. Be sure to offer your K Code stories in the Comments Section below the article. We love to hear your comments.

"As goes the Barrett-Jackson Auction, so goes the collector car market," we always say. You will want to follow our reports from Scottsdale again this year to find out all the auction action in real time. Also check our Car Show Calendar to spot top collector car shows in your area. Later this month we will be in Pomona, California to report to you from the Grand National Roadster Show.
A private seller from Fenton, Missouri marked his car SOLD this week. It was the 1951 Muntz Jet which newsletter readers will remember was featured right here in the COL newsletter in September. Click here to review our featured story for that week. We even linked to a short history on the Muntz Jet's short run as an American car company. This one is a museum piece which is also recorded in the Muntz Registry.
Now the seller knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell on Cars-On-Line." Follow this link to the SOLD section below where you will see all of the private sellers who SOLD their cars through COL this week. "Torque monster," that's what we call it. The 1969 1/2 Dodge Super Bee A12 had the liftoff hood and came with the 440 Magnum engine and a Six Pack. That combination made them unbeatable in the quarter-mile. Many were quicker off the line, but down the track they would woosh past you, still accelerating. "Torque monsters" that's what they are. And could they do a smokin' burnout. Put on a show. This B5 blue Super Bee comes from Maxton, North Carolina. The private seller says it comes with a Tic Toc Tach, and a Dana rear end with a 4.10 gears. He says the sheet metal looks great and the odometer shows only 47k miles. If you are lookin' for the meanest looking car on the road, this is it.
Buyers may be somewhat confused by the blur of special edition Mercedes-Benz SL cars these days. The top-o-the-line Mercedes-Benz is the SLR built for them by McLaren. This video by Classic Cars of Sarasota explains this for our readers. Here is their presentation on their 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR by McLaren. Find out what makes it an exotic super car. A very limited number of Camaro Z28 1LE special editions were built in 1994. In fact, the exact number built was 135. This black 1994 Camaro Z28 1LE from MS Classic Cars in Seekonk, Massachusetts is one of them. It may be the best one, because they tell us it has only 194 actual miles from new. That's amazing! Obviously the car was born to be a collector car. It was ordered at Cheesman Chevrolet in Spring Valley, Illinois in 1993. Although the car was driven sparingly, it was always maintained and garaged, according to the description. This exceptional "factory race car" is featured in a walk-around video done by MS Classic Cars. (Click to view.)

Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, California found a 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe in the storage areas around Beverly Hills. The listing this week is an important find. It comes in this excellent color combination, black with a black interior. It comes equipped with a period correct 327/340 hp engine with a manual transmission. With Split Window prices reaching the six figure numbers, this one could be a money maker in the hands of the right restorer.

A stunning show quality 1970 Chevelle SS which is said to be a true L Code, Kansas City built Super Sport is being offered for sale by a private seller out of St Louis, Missouri. This beautiful Craneberry red example was frame off restored to LS6 specs. He says it comes with a GMPP Gen IV LS6 454 crate motor with factory Winters intake and 780 Holley, CJ code 400 Turbo, 3:31 12-bolt Posi, ZL2 cowl induction, F41 suspension, power steering, JL2 power front disc brakes and a factory 6500 Red Line tach. The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
A really beautiful 1966 Plymouth Belvedere II was listed for sale by Classical Gas Motors in Texas. That Plum Crazy Purple color is stunning in the photos. It has all the elements of being a great driver quality ride with a big block 440 Mopar power plant. Health reasons for the former owner kept him from completing the restoration the way he wanted it done. So some of the prep work in the body was not up to professional standards. The new owner may want to redo the bodywork and paint. That's why this beautiful car is priced so right. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday with a price point set at $14,900.
Every once in a while we run into a very desirable classic car that is priced so right it blows our minds. Today this 1937 Studebaker Dictator has been listed by Streetside Classics in Tampa, Florida. It is what we would classifiy as a resto rod because it looks very original but has a more modern drivetrain. It has a Buick 3.8 Six Cylinder motor, upgraded suspension and power options. The interior is modern and comfortable with power windows, power seats and power door locks. (Check out all the photos from Streetside Classics.) Usually a resto rod of this quality would be somewhat of an investment. But Streetside is offering this one at a discount to the market. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday because the asking price is $18,995. Hurry on this one!
Another great opportunity exists in the Dodge Section today. A private collector from Portland, Oregon listed his rare classic Dodge hardtop for sale this week. Check out the 1959 Dodge Coronet 2-Door Hardtop with the exaggerated big fins. The seller notes that this car came from the northern part of the State of Washington where they don't use salt on the roads. In addition, he tells us the odometer only reads 60k miles, and it handles like a 60,000 mile car, very different from many old classics. It is said to be a three-owner car with the 325 ci V8 engine and automatic 3-speed transmission. The seller says he has done the normal maintenance, i.e, new fuel pump, new master cylinder, new brake shoes, new brake cylinders, new battery and new exhaust system. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price of just $19,500.
This 1972 Chevy El Camino is being offered for sale by a private seller from Plain City, Utah. It comes with a small block 350 motor and 400 Turbo transmission. The seller doesn't say much about the truck except here recomendation that it is in "good condition." Be sure to have it inspected before you buy. The reason it is being noted here in the DEAL of the DAY is beause it looks good in the photos. The orange exterior and black interior are a popular combination. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $16,000. If it is as good as it looks in the photos that would be a discount to the market.
Cadillacs are the "Gold Standard" of the collector car hobby. So here is a 1974 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible which you just can't afford to ignore. The seller is Mancini Motors out of Norristown, Pennsylvania. They tell us this car is a great daily driver powered by the legenary 500 ci Cadillac V8. It features Cadillac front wheel drive, variable-ration power steering, automatic ride level control and the power convertible top. This is the legendary glamour car with styling and performance in abundance. The interior luxury touches were ahead of their time. The odometer reads 62k miles although the title reads as "exempt." It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is only $10,000.
Built as a custom show truck, this 1983 Ford F-150 Custom Pickup still shows its custom paint. It sports a custom 6" powerder coate lift kit, and a power coated drive train. What's more it comes with the custom wheels and a custom interior. The original owner says it was always stored inside. It also has performance equipment including a Holley carb, intake manifold, roll bar, KC High Lites and lots of chrome. The wood bed was built with pressure treated oak. This would be a good one to have inspected before you buy. But isn't it interesting? The asking price is $16,000.
Although it may be a little bit more of a project than some of our other DEALs of the DAY, here is a 1965 Mustang Coupe from Benton, Kentucky. The private seller tells us it has been undergoing a restoration for some time. He says it still needs some new paint and some minor body work to the driver side door. He also indicates that it could be a show quality car once it is done. Already done are the chrome, glass, vinyl, seats, gauges and dash. The eninge is said to be virtually new except for the block and crank. He says he used Edelbrock parts through out with aluminum heads, piston and more. The engine was pro built by an engine shop. The Mustang will be our DEAL of the DAY next week if it lasts that long. The asking price is $15,500.
