The ultimate in automotive excellence has always been the province of Rolls-Royce. It is singular in designing elegant motorcars among the auto makers of the world. Kings, queens, millionaire industrialits and celebrities would own them. Symbols of wealth and achievement, the open cab Phantoms especially were the icon of the Rolls-Royce heritage.
This week, Gullwing Motorcars in New York has just posted a 1928 Rolls-Royce Phantom St Stephen Town Car with the Landaulette by Brewster. Well-preserved with a gentle patina of use throughout, the town car is still exceptionally handsome in its regal maroon and black finish. Gullwing tells us this particular example is both mechanically strong and structurally very sound. It's been recently driven and performs smoothly and quietly out on the road. It continues to show wonderfully and is ready for use and enjoyment.
Chassis no. S243FP was one of 58 Springfield-built Rolls-Royce Phantom I chassis fitted with this particularly handsome and dignified formal coachwork. The St. Stephen, a traditional town car design with an open drivers compartment for the chauffeur, was coachbuilt by Brewster. Brewsters were available with or without a collapsible landaulette roof over the rear seat, in the fashion of horse-drawn carriages.
Just this past weekend a 1914 Rolls-Royce Phantom Landaulette sold at the RM Sotheby's auction in Monterey for $665,000. In 2011 and 2012 a few select Rolls-Royce Phantoms sold for over $700,000. The average sale value without consideration for condition is $185,000.
Here is a spectacular opportunity to own a very special and rare Phantom I Town Car Landaulette. Find more photos at this link to the Gullwing Motorcars ad.

Last week's Monterey Car Week had some serious fore warnings for the collector car market. At the world's largest array of collector car auctions held in Monterey last week, the major auction companies recorded prices that were down from the year before. That hasn't happened in the past ten years and is an eye opener for collectors. According to West Coast Shipping, a major player in collector car transport around the world, 76 percent of the cars sold were sold for less than their estimated values. That includes the high dollar 1960's and 1970's Ferraris, Porsches and other European sports cars which have been steadily going up in value in recent years. The lower end muscle cars and classic cars did not fare any better. Monterey Car Week happens every year just before the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance, America's most famous car show. All the major auction houses hold collector car auctions in the area. Some of the most high profile collector cars are sold there each year. For more on the Monterey Car Week festivities, here is a link to the West Coast Shipping coverage of the event.

Classic Car Marketing out of Southern California posted a 2015 Zagato Perana Z-ONE, an exotic super car that flies under the radar of most collectors. That is because it is the rarest of the Italian designed super cars. Only seven of these phenomenal super cars were ever produced. Penned by Zagato for the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, the Perana Z-ONE was to be produced in South Africa. This is one of the few ever produced. It has the Thompson Automotive LS7 Chevrolet 7.3L motor producing just over 600 hp, a 6-speed manual Tremec transmission, Zagato Signature Double Bubble Roof and 19" and 20" wheels. It was meant to be in the collection of one of the world's most noted super car connoisseurs.
Heaton Hot Rods in Joliet, Illinois is joining our Cars-On-Line Dealer Network this week. They are just beginning to get their choice inventory of cars for sale online. So you will be seeing fresh listings all weekend from them on the New Listings page. They specialize in muscle car resto mods and pro touring cars with an occasional race car thrown into the mix. Take this 1967 Chevy Nova SS Pro Touring for instance. Show or Go ready, it comes with beautiful Linden Green metallic paint, and a 355 ci engine with Holley Terminator fuel injection. It has Team G aluminum intake, Lunati camshaft, roller rockers, Stage 2 rods, double roller timing chain, Summit 94 cc studded heads and Hedman headers. Watch for more top quality muscle cars from Heaton Hot Rods this weekend.
By the time you read the COL newsletter next week we will be reporting to you from the Fall Auburn Auction on Labor Day Weekend, August 29-September 1, 2019. This is going to be one of the best auction experiences you'll have this year. The Fall Auburn Auction by RM Sotheby's is part of the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Festival held in Auburn, Indiana, every year on Labor Day Weekend. RM Auctions is anticipating that over 700 vehicles will cross the auction block for the giant sale. This will be the 46th year for the annual auction held at the RM Auction Park.
The lineup of featured cars is amazing. Here are some they added to their sale just this week:
A 1929 Kissel 8-95 Eagle Tourster will be among the vintage motorcars being offered for sale next weekend at the Fall Auburn Auction in Auburn, Indiana. If you ever wanted to own one of these truly rare classic motorcars from the Roaring Twenties era, here is a definite opportunity. This one is estimated to bring about $60,000 to $70,000 in today's market. That is the concensus of the RM Auction appraisers. Interestingly, it will be offered at No Reserve.
Finished in Lightning Blue with white stripes and a red accent, here is a highly desirable late model muscle car, a 2017 Shelby GT350 R, one of only 43 GT 350 Rs delivered in this color combination that year. It has a 526 hp, 5.2-liter V8 engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It comes with tthe Track Pack and Electronics Package, as well as a Recaro bucket seat interior and Navigation system with SYNC 3. It has only 300 miles from new. It will be offered at No Reserve.
Every muscle car collector dreams of owning a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda with the original 426 Hemi monster motor. This one came in Alpine white with a black vinyl top. What is really important is that it has the Shaker hood. They tell us this Hemi Cuda presents in exceptional condition. Inside, the black vinyl bucket seats are separated by a console with woodgrain trim that houses the TorqueFlite automatic transmission. It is Lot # 3074 and will cross the auction block on Saturday.
At first you might think this 1957 Ford Skyliner is just another Retractable hardtop. But, no. This incredible find is a real E Code with the Ford Thunderbird E Code dual quad carburetor. Yes it was born that way from the factory. A quick look at the photos will reveal the condition. You won't believe this. The seats are still in the wrapper. Notice the condition of the undercarriage. Here is an opportunity to own a car so rare, many collectors have never seen one.

RK Motors Charlotte has a real deal 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge which was documented by Pontiac Hiscoric Services. Here is where the story takes a twist. This real Judge was restored from the ground up as a resto mod. That's right. It has a 400 ci V8 bored and stroked to 461 ci with Fitech fuel injection and mated to a Tremec TKO600 5-speed manual transmission. You have to watch this walk-around video and hear it run. It is safe to say you could drive this one anywhere.

The car has been in storage for 25 years.

This Mustang fastback is presented in its correct Wimbeldon white paint with Lemans blue racing stripes. The seller says it was professionally restored to Shelby specs with a 289 ci Hi Po engine mated to a SelectShift Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. He says there are just 1,389 miles (we assume he means on the restoration.) This week's DEAL of the DAY preview has some of the finest collector cars we've ever offered at such low prices. Just look at the popular collector cars in this week's DEALs. This is where we give newsletter readers first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page during the coming week. Often these cars sell right here in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
A 1960 Chevrolet El Camino painted in its original colors of Tasco Turquoise over Ermin white is our top DEAL for the week. It is being offered for sale by PC Classic Cars in Sherman, Texas. We aren't sure how they do it, but every week they come out with a spectacular deal like this one. It has a big block 396 ci V8 engine with a two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. Watch a walk-around video they shot for their ad. They say it runs and drives well. The paint is a little weak. Read about it in the ad. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is only $17,500.
A company called Specialty Sales Classics from Benicia, California deals in high end collector cars. But today they posted a 1954 Packard Clipper Deluxe 4-Dr Sedan which will surprise you. They say it is a "survivor" and presents as original. There have been some upgrades over the years. For instance, a 3rd owner repaint to the current Maroon, which is a Packard correct color, and adding the fender skirts. It shows "average levels of wear to the exterior paint with a few minor dings and scratches." Watch a quick walk-around video from Specialty Sales Classics. The pictures will reveal a factory correct 327 flathead straight eight engine under the hood with a 3-speed overdrive manual transmission.
An elderly gentleman from Dallas, Texas has this 1936 Ford Touring Sedan for sale this week. The most important reason to look at this one carefully is that he says it comes with "all steel Henry Ford" sheet metal. He says it runs excellent. It has the 5.0 Liter Ford fuel injected V8 connected to a C4 automatic transmission. It stops with four-wheel disc brakes and drives well on the freeway. You will note that the paint is beautiful, the body excellent and he says you can drive it anywhere. He says it does not have power steering and does not have air conditioning. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday because the asking price is just $22,000.
Wow! This is a lotta' truck for the money! A real truck guy from Sarasota, Florida is offering his 1965 Chevrolet Custom 10 Stepside Shortbed Pickup with a wood bed. He uses the word "stunning" to describe the Hugger orange paint and white pearl trim. He says the truck has a "great stance" with a 2" drop, power steering and power drum brakes with a booster. The interior evidently has fresh paint as well along with new black cloth/finyl bench seat and plush carpeting. He notes that the Chevy 327 has been rebuilt with double hump head and cam, AFB 4-BBL carb with headers, dual exhaust, transmission oil cooler, aluminum radiator with dual fans and more. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because you get all of the above for only $17,500. Now that's what I'm talkin' about.
Crosley was a small, independent American manufacturer of subcompact cars under the name Crosley Corporation from 1939 until 1952 in Indiana and Ohio. We consider them to be microcars. A Crosley collector from Homosassa, Florida is selling part of his collection of rare Crosley cars today in our newsletter. One in particular looks like a great find for the price. It is a 1946 Crosley 2-Door Sedan. The seller says this is a very correct example of the 2-Door Crosley, gray in color and he says it is rust free. He tells us it runs, drives and looks great. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later this week. This true classic American car is being offere for just $9,500. (You can find more Crosley's for sale in the Microcar Section of the Cars-On-Line website today.)
The 1993 Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4 Twin Turbo was an attempt to mass produce an exotic super car by Chrysler and Mitsubishi in the early 1990's. It was a rocket to drive and caused quite a stir in the new car markets back then. Now we are seeing them just starting to take off as collector cars. This example is being offered by Humpty Dumpty Classic Cars in Sarasota, Florida. It is an All-wheel-drive sports car with a 5-speed manual transmission and polished wheels. It is also really loaded for a sports car. Having been in storage for many years, they say it now has been prepped to be road worthy again. What a find! They have it priced to sell at just $15,900.
A real sharp looking 1973 Chevy C10 Cheyenne Shortbed with some custom modification done is being offered for sale by a private seller from Chelmsford, Massachusetts. It looks like it was dropped a few inches. The seller feels it is important to note that the frame is solid and was never rotted or repaired. It comes with a 350 small block Chevy motor and a 4-speed manual transmission for that sporty ride. He says it runs well and is a beautiful looking truck. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week if it lasts that long. The asking price is very reasonable at just $15,500.
