With more photos and information promised, Orlando Classic Cars this week posted a preview of a 1959 Ford Thunderbird Special 430 Convertible, the car Ford chose to dominate NASCAR. Arguably, the Ford Fairlane proved to be Ford's real meal ticket in NASCAR that year, but the legendary Thunderbird Special 430 engine did win six NASCAR races for Ford.
When Ford Motor Company decided to make a play in NASCAR they were betting on the combination of a Lincoln 430 engine in a "square body" Thunderbird to dominate at the race track. Fame at the track made the Thunderbird seem like Ford's "muscle car" of the future. While only 1,168 of the Thunderbird Special 430 convertibles were produced, doubtless their success in NASCAR racing promoted a record 67,000 total sales for Thunderbird that year. This week, Orlando Classic Cars in Orlando, Florida is offering one of these phenomenal classic Thunderbirds for sale.
Orlando Classic Cars tells us this one is a California car with just 76k miles. It comes with the J code option which designated the original 430 Lincoln engine. It has the automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power top, optional leather upholstery and Kelsey-Hayes chrome wire wheels with radial wide whitewall tires. They tell us it is “a beautiful vintage Thunderbird that has had one repaint in its original color and still retains a stunning original interior.”
We know our readers remember these cars well. You will want to read our in-depth report on the 1959 Ford Thunderbird Special 430 Convertible on our MyDreamCar.online blog page today. Then tell us your classic Ford Thunderbird stories in the comments section below the article.

An interesting company called Electra Mecannica (see their website at electrameccanica.com) is showing their fresh offering called the SOLO at the Advance Clean Transportation Expo today in Long Beach, California. The SOLO is an all-electric three-wheel vehicle. This is a single passenger EV which has a range of 100 miles per charge, travels at highway speed and retails for $15,500. They say they have been selling them to companies that are involved in business-to-business delivery. The reason we have been interested in Electra Mecannica is because this is the same company which has been building the eRoadster, a Porsche 356 Speedster replica which is all electric. The company is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They have been toying with the idea of doing electric conversion on other classic cars.
We hope to see you at the Spring Carlisle Auction this weekend, April 25-26, 2019. If you can't make it, you can watch it here on YouTube. It is the main event at the Spring Carlisle Car Show & Swap Meet, April 24-28, 2019, one of the top car shows in the country. It is being held right now at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. (Follow us on Twitter to review the auction.) The announcement this morning said there were over 500 cars in the sale. You can look at a portion of the auction inventory here on the Cars-On-Line.com website at this link: top cars from the Spring Carlisle Auction.

Orlando Classic Cars also posted our top muscle car from among this week's fresh new listings. When they previewed a 1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator 428CJ, Orando Classic Cars told us this was a genuine R Code car with Ram Air induction. They say that when it was restored the owner changed the color from blue metallic to Competition Blue (better known as Grabber blue) with a contasting black interior. Only 2,250 Eliminators were produced in 1969, and only 162 of them came with the R Code 428 CJ big block motor. Furthermore, Orlando Classic Cars gave us a heads up that it has excellent paint on an arrow straight body.
One of the most desirable classic 1950's cars for collectors is this 1956 Packard Caribbean Convertible. It was the "forward look" type Post War car that was to save the day for Packard Motor Company. While it fell short of saving Packard, it did check all of the boxes as a top luxury convertible back in the day. Unfortunately, only 276 were ever produced. This one is being offered for sale by Connors Motorcar Company in West Chester, Pennsylvania. It came from the factory in stunning white, orange and black tri-tone exterior paint and an amazing full leather interior with reversible cloth cushions on the seats. It also has the big 374 ci V8 rated at 310 horsepower with dual quad carburetors and a push button automatic transmission. Options included power steering, power brakes, a power top and real wire wheels. Fully serviced, Connors tells us it runs and drives beautifully.
A spring tradition for collector car enthusiasts across the country, RM Auctions’ 2019 Auburn Spring sale returns to the historic Auburn, Indiana Auction Park with a new extended four-day sale on 29 May–1 June. Last year's sale resulted in $6 million in total sales with an 84 percent sell-through rate. The 2019 Auburn Spring auction, now in its 18th year, will see about 400 quality collector cars and a huge selection of automobilia cross the auction stage.

You have to see this video of a 1967 Chevelle Convertible made to look like an SS. Tucked away under an SS hood you'll find a 454 big block. It has Performer Aluminum intake, Holley carburetor, electronic ignition, aluminum heads, aluminum radiator, and ceramic coated, long-tube headers with dual Flowmaster mufflers. The red paint is very slick and will turn heads. This classic muscle is a frame off restoration that was done professionally and has been taken care of over the years. The video will explain it all. What a find! Orlando Classic Cars just posted a 1978 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham which they say has just 200 miles on it from the day it was new. That is pretty hard to beat. A 1970's luxury car which is virtually brand new. In fact, this car was never titled, and is still on MSO from the dealer. It may be the lowest miles collector car in existence.
The following are more recently listed Low Miles cars:

Once in a while you find something truly phenomenal in the Project Car Section. This week, Beverly Hills Car Club listed a 1975 Maserati Khamsin which will need a full restoration, but what a rare and desirable car to work on. A Canadian seller got real motivated to sell his 1969 Pontiac Beaumont Pro Touring car this week. He says it is road tested, totally reliable, and a great handling Pro Touring custom. The Canadian produced Pontiac is a rarity in the U.S. making it even more enticing. The seller says the power comes from an LS3/480hp (2016) motor with billet engine mounting plates and brackets, hidden coil packs on brackets, and much more. His original asking price was $54,500 (not too out of line to begin with.) But this week he called and reduced the price to $39,950 in U.S. currency. Now, that's what we're talkin' about.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
If you were into drag racing in the 1980's this is the car for you. A 1969 Ford Torino Cobra is being offered for sale by Coyote Classics in Greene, Iowa. It has been restored to look like a nostalgic '80's drag car. It runs and drives excellent down the road, according to the ad descriiption by Coyote Classics. They say the twin 4-barrels are dialed in perfectly. They cannot veify that it is a 428 CJ block that came with this car but they do say that it is a '69 block. The dual intake came from a 427 Shelby Cobra. It has dual exhaust, factory working tach, guages and is riding on a nice set of American Racing rims. Watch this walk-around video to gain more info. The R Code car is ready to enjoy. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is only $27,995. We think you'll agree that it is a lotta' car for the money.
Here is a rare one. A 1957 Pontiac Catalina Chieftain 2-Dr Hardtop has been mildly customized with performance enhancements. It now has electric doors, trunk and antenna. The 1959 389 ci big block has been stroked to 455 ci and it is mated to a B&M Hydramatic 4-speed automatic transmission. It looks like it has an interesting Tripower setup. The rear end is a 4.10 limited slip so you know it has some torque. Be sure to have it inspected to verify how well it is sorted out. But this Sunday it will be our DEAL of the DAY because it sure looks like a keeper from the photos. It is very plain from the photos that this one is a driver quality ride. They say it was appraised at $26,350. It would be appropriate for you to ask to see a copy of the appraisal.
In 1959, Ford Motor Company decided to introduce their new Galaxie model as a subcategory of the Fairlane. Today it confuses collectors to no end. However, in 1959 it probably made great sense. This is one of the surviving 1959 Ford Galaxie Fairlane 500 hardtops, now being offered for sale at Shelton Classics in Mooresville, North Carolina. You cannot beat it for a sensational looking starter car. Not only is it a eye-catching Black Cherry color, it also comes with the Continental kit. Shelton Classics tells us that this one is a driver quality car. They point out some of the imperfections in the ad description. Get a better sense of the car by watching this walk-around video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is only $16,995
Here is one that a truck collector can't afford to miss. This 1971 Chevrolet C10 Pickup has the look and stance of an original Chevrolet pickup of the era. It has the 350 ci V8 engine and an automatic transmission with lots of added enhancements such as power steering and disc brakes. It is being offered by PC Classic Cars of Sherman, Texas. They have deep roots in the collector car hobby and come up with great collector vehicles at what we consider to be "discount prices." Follow this link to see a detailed walk-around video. We dont' know how they do it, but take this one for an example. The asking price is only $18,000. Hurry!
Very few examples of the 1991 Lotus Elan M100 Roadster were ever sold here in the U.S. Here is one being offered for sale by Motorcar Studio in Atlanta, Georgia that is described as a well-kept example with only 26k miles. . It has been with its current Georgia owner since 2016 and enjoyed as a fun weekend car. The paint, body and interior remain in good, original condition with with no known paintwork or accident history; it's accompanied by a clean CarFax report. Watch the detailed walk-around video to see more of this lightly used exotic sports car. Then take it for a test drive in the video. More fun than you've had in a long time. It has had recent service, including new fuel injectors, ECM, timing belt and water pump. It's quick and fun to drive. Next week it will be our DEAL of the DAY. You could own it now for $17,900.
The first generation classic Thunderbirds continue to be one of the most sought after collector cars in the hobby. We always say that if you find one for under $30,000 you should buy it. (That needs to be qualified to say "if you find a nice No. 3 condition first generation Thunderbird for under $30,000 ...") So here is a 1957 Ford Thunderbird, a one owner car from an estate sale. It is being offered by the family. You will note that it is a California black and yellow plate classic, finished in its factory color of Starmist blue. They tell us the car is rust free and drives very well. Having been in storage for many years, it was recently freshened and had fluids changed. The carb and brakes have been redone. It has power windows, power seats and a Town & Country radio. They say it is now ready to cruise. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with a price tag of $29,995.
Ellinson Motorcars, a classic car dealer out of Rogers, Minnesota, is offering a 1971 VW Karmann Ghia with Europe's version of a high performance engine, the 1600 cc air-cooled Super Beetle motor. In fact, the Karmann Ghia was VW's offering to give European drivers a low cost version of the Porsche sport car. Ellingson tells us it is a good looking car that is very economical to drive and own. They say this one comes with a great history, currently being offered by the third owner from the state of Georgia. It has a 4-speed sports car sporty transmission. Fun to drive. They say it is rock solid and appears to have never had a problem with rust. They say it will give you many years of good driving. What a great way to get into the collector hobby. You can own this one today for just $15,995.
