What was American Motors thinking? Putting a 390 ci V8 in a little Rambler Rogue economy car weighing in at less than 2,500 pounds? They might as well have embedded Ford, Chevy and Chrysler logos in the rear view mirror. Lucky for them AMC couldn't afford to advertise their Rambler Scrambler muscle car. Unfortunately, it was the best kept secret of the muscle car era.
This week one of those phenomenal muscle cars turned up in the Cars-On-Line AMC Performance Section. A 1969 AMC Hurst SC/Rambler muscle car was listed on the Cars-On-Line website by a private collector in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since only 1,512 SC/Ramblers were ever built by Hurst for AMC, they rarely come up for sale. So this is a big deal for muscle car buyers. After all, this is one of the most exciting muscle cars of all time. Just think! It combined a Ram Air 390 ci V8 with a 4-speed and posi traction rear end, all in a little Rambler! (Follow this link to view the private seller's advertisement and see more photos.)
The base car was a Rambler Roque. Only this was a Roque of a different color. About 1,200 Scramblers were produced with the full “Yankee Doodle” color scheme as the one you see pictured here. It came in "appliance white" with broad red bodysides, wild hood graphics and a blue dorsal stripe. Today this style is known to collectors as having the "A scheme" paint style.
Believe it or not, the paint is over 20 years old. It still shows great, has a smooth glossy finish. The lettering and stripes are painted on the hood. They say it still has the original "snout" ram air scoop and hood pins. It also has it's original bullet style mirrors.
This 1969 AMC Hurst SC/Rambler has it's original 390 ci V8 motor with original # tag on the valve cover. The ram air induction system is complete and functional. Inside you will find a nice original interior. It does have the original working 8-grand Sun Tach on the steering column.
For a more complete analysis of the rare 1969 AMC Hurst SC/Rambler, follow this link to the Cars-On-Line blog site. There you are encouraged to provide your recollections and stories about the SC/Ramblers you've experienced. We love to hear the stories from our readers.

Porsche has announced that it will be producing a special edition 911 which they will calll the Speedster Heritage Edition reminiscent of the legenary 356 Speedster. From time to time Porsche has rolled out a "speedster" edition, but this one is being produced to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Porsche. It is meant as a retro offering for the Porsche purist. It was revealed that 70 percent of all Porsche Speedsters have been sold here in the U.S. The 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster Heritage will be available later this year. It will be introduced this week at the New York Auto Show, April 19-28, 2019.
Do you like to spray off your car just to see the water bead up because of your wonderful skill at waxing? You may want to check out a new product everybody is talking about from Meguiars called the Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax. You just spray it on, rinse it off and let it dry. There is no rubbing, curing, buffing or messy applicators. They say the advanced Si02 hybrid technology provides a ceramic wax protection and durability that out performs regular car waxes. But its the beading action that really seems to grab car guys' attention. After watching some demo videos on You Tube, it seems that the Meguiars hybrid ceramic does almost as good a job as the expensive ceramic waxes which cost over three times the price. (Note: for the best results you have to rub in the initial coat of Mequiars, and apply it twice, once as a base, per directions the first time you use it.) The Meguiars hybrid product does not claim to be a true ceramic wax but uses silicates in a formula that replicates the quality of a ceramic wax. The results are impressive. What we don't yet know is whether the Meguiars Hybrid product lasts as long as a true ceramic wax. But a reapplication is so easy.

Early Chrysler cars are much harder to find today than either Ford or Chevrolet vehicles. So when a 1932 Chrysler CI6 Roadster was listed for sale this week by a collector in Rancho Cucamonga, California we knew we had to feature it here. The seller says it has new leather interior and a new canvas top. He says it also has a new exhaust system and new brake cylinders. The result is a car that "runs and drives very well." On the flip side of that he says the car will need paint and some chrome to bring it back to show. You can see what he is talking about in the photos. He describes it as a very solid rumble seat roadster with no rust issues. The price is very affordable for such a pure piece of colllectible history. Hurry on this one. At this price it won't last long.
Here is one that will rock the Mopar world. Collectors are always on the lookout for a choice piece of Mopar history never before seen. Here is a 1969 Dodge Charger Hemi R/T which has been sequestered away in Europe for the past 30 some years. This week the owner from Kalmar, Sweden has posted it for sale here on the Cars-On-Line.com website. The seller says it comes with its matching numbers 426 Hemi, an original fender tag and an original broadcast sheet. He says it was completely restored and is described as being in show quality condition. It has photo documentation and history back to the 1980's. We caution you to be careful, since this is an international sale. Have it inspected to verify the information in the ad.
A 1930's era aerodynamic coupe much like the Walker Duesenberg owned by Jay Leno or the Viotti built Alfa Romeo is a collectors' dream car. In fact, Duesenberg had designs done for a factory prototype 1938 Dusenberg Aero Coupe but was never put into production. More recently, Bayliff Custom Automotive hand built the prototype car based on the Duesenberg drawings. From the Ford 300 ci inline six with special Offenhauser intake to the Cadillac STS independent rear suspension, this car is retro cool. It is constructed on a Ford P71 Police Interceptor front suspension, adjustable Air Ride and shod with Wheel Vintiques 17" chrome wire wheels. You have to admit, everything is perfect as seen in dozens of photos in the ad. A discrete collector would do well to ad this unique one-of-a-kind prototype tribute to his collection.
West Coast hot rodders will remember this 1949 Plymouth Suburban Wagon, a top show winning custom restoration now being offered for sale by its private owner from Keizer, Oregon. He gave us some beautiful show photos to run in his ad. (Click here to read the ad copy and view the photos.) It has won five Goodguys West Coast shows, was First in Class at the Portland Roadster Show and was featured in Street Rodder magazine as well as being selected to the Street Rodder Top 100. Built on a Fatman front and ladder-bar rear suspension, it uses Accu Air Ride and a 5-speed with a Dana 9 1/2" posi rear end. They say there are over a thousand hours in the fabrication, body and paiint. Every nut and bolt was done in the frame-off restoration to show quality. The leather interior is by Creative Design, and the wheels are Colorado Custom designed exclusively for this Suburban.
Carlisle Events is taking consignments for their Spring Carlisle Auction, April 25-26, 2019. Already they are signing up a stellar lineup of collector cars to be auctioned off during the famous Spring Carlisle Car Show, April 24-28, 2019 at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. Held every year in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, this is one of the biggest collector events in the country. It is reknowned for the gigantic swap meet and car corral. But the fastest growing part of the show is the auction presented by Carlisle Auctions.
Here are some of the early consigns you will have a chance to bid on:
No doubt about it, the Spring Carlisle Auction is a blue collar muscle car guy's dream come true. You'll factory muscle cars such as this 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge in Carousel Red with the Judge stripes. They tell us it is a documented Ram Air III original GTO Judge and it remains numbers matching. You will get the PHS documents along with the sale. Most important, a frame-off restoration was completed on this one in 2016. So it is as fresh as spring. It comes with the items you want on a GTO Judge, i.e. hood tach, 4-speed manual transmission and the Saf-T-Track rear end. It also has power disc brakes and power steering. Note: it is one of two GTO Judge hardtops consigned so far.
But by no means are muscle cars the only attaction for the Spring Carlisle Auction this year. Wait till you see the choice exotic sports cars available in this years' selection of auction cars. Take a look at this 2008 Ferrari 599 GTB with only 5,000 miles on it since new. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a late model Ferrari still in the wrapper. It has just received its 5k service updates. The original MSRP on this car was $347,985 when it was new. It might sell for one-third of that price today. It is equipped with Tubi exhaust, K40 mirror radar and 20" Vossen wheels. And it comes with all owner's manuals, tool kit and the original window sticker. Be your wife's hero and buy this exotic super car.
This is arguably the hottest find in the collector car hobby right now. You post one on Facebook and be prepared to get thousands of "Likes." And best of all, this 1956 Chevrolet Namad Wagon is still in original condition with only 71k miles believed to be original. It was repainted in the original Nassau Blue and Indian Ivory. From the photos you can tell it has the highly detailed 265 ci V8 engine with the popular Power Pack option and dual exhaust, and comes with a 3-speed Syncromesh manual transmission. It does have upgraded front disc brakes. All the stainless trim is new, according to the description. And they say the chrome is excellent. You'll have to be at Carlisle just to see this one. Maybe you'll even have a chance to get in the bidding.
For anyone who has followed the market for the past few years they'll tell you that classic International pickups are a hot find. At the Spring Carlisle Auction this year they have one of the nicest hot rod IHC pickups we've seen. Click through to view all the photos on this 1955 International R110 Pickup show truck. The copy says they invested over $125,000 to built it. It has a fast all-aluminum, Fuel injected Corvette LT1 engine with an aluminum radiator and a 700R4 automatic transmission with overdrive. It has been equpped with 4-wheel power disc brakes, upgraded suspension and an all leather custom interior with digital gauges. It has power rack and pinion steering, vintage air and heat and dual exhaust.

Just listed this week by RK Motors Charlotte is a 1965 Superformance Cobra with a 460 ci big block stroker motor pushing 535 horsepower. That much horsepower in a little Cobra? No wonder the Shelby Cobra captured America's attention. They say this one was never put on a track or abused. The Superformance body is so authentic, it is the only one authorized by Shelby. You've gotta see this video.

RK Motors Charlotte, a premier collector car dealer in North Carolina, just posted an incredible 1967 Plymouth Hemi GTX for sale. They say this car has only 21k actual miles on it from new. It is amazing when you think about it. A California car that survived the muscle car wars with such low miles. What's more, RK Motors Charlotte assures our readers that this Hemi GTX was restored by some of the best names in the business. You have to watch this detailed walk-around video to get a sense of this car and hear the Hemi engine run. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Mopar lovers, you are not going to believe your eyes. This has got to be the most amazing barn find of the year. Here is a 1970 Plymouth Superbird being offered for sale from Neosho, Missouri. No kidding. It is a well preserved 440 6-Pack Superbird with a stick. The seller says it is #s matching and has its original Chrysler broadcast sheet! Ideal Classic Cars out of Venice, Florida has listed a 1970 Mustang Boss 302 tribute which theyd say is extremely authentic. "The attention to detail is stunning!" they stated in their ad copy. The Ford 302 ci V8 engine has bee performance enhanced with a hot cam, a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and forged pistons, polished and ported heads, roller rockers, HD rod bolts and a high volume oil pump. Power is transferred via a C-4 Ford automatic transmission and a limited slip rear end. . The correct Grabber Blue paint is accented by black stripes, the black Shaker hood scoop, and Magnum 500 wheels. Documentation includes a Deluxe Marti Report and the original bill of sale (on the donor car.)
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:
1970 Chevelle 454, Cool Cars, FL, has SS emblems
1966 Chevy Nova, Streetside Classics, NC, SS tribute
1971 Pontiac Firebird, Streetside Classics, TN, Trans Am decals, scoop
The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
If you are a Mopar fan on a budget, here is a deal that just can't be beat. This is a 1967 Dodge Coronet 500 2-Dr Hardtop, a very powerful Mopar muscle car that looks great in the photos. If you look closely you will see that the undercarriage is driver quality, meaning it shows surface rust and wear. It's not painted like a show car and obviously has not been driven a lot since the original restoration back in the 1990s. The seller is Coyote Classics in Greene, Iowa. They get a lot of nice drive type vehicles that you can enjoy even if you are on a budget. You will want to view their video walk-around on this Coronet. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday with a really affordable price tag. They are only asking $17,995. Hurry!
If you are in the market for a nice Ford Model A Coupe you might want to read this ad carefully. A Baby Boomer is selling his small collection of cars which he has acquired and cared for meticulously. This 1930 Ford Model A Rumble Coupe stands out from the crowd. This mostly-original Model A has been given a quality restoration and is ready to be driven. Seat belts and turn signals have been added for safety. The bright red paint, black fenders, and yellow steel wheels make this vintage ride a real standout. The all metal panel Model A Coupe has added chrome exterior accents and a 6 volt electric starter. Watch this walk-around video to get a feel for the car and see it in action. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Easter Sunday as the asking price is only $18,500.
A nice 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe Convertible such as this one from Emporia, Kansas is a hard one to find in this kind of condition. The private seller says it is a very nice convertible which has had an engine overhaul and has the 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive. He says it has had new wiring, new front end, new suspension, new brakes with discs up front, and a newer top pump and cylinders. You can see from the photos that the top is in good shape. You'll like the newer Coker radial tires to improve the ride. It also seems to have had some work on the interior. He says all gauges work including the radio. The paint may need freshening and should not be mistaken for show quality. Yet a car this rare gets our nod for DEAL of the DAY on Monday as the asking price is $22,000.
Classic first generation Ford Thunderbirds will always be the American dream. This 1955 Ford Thunderbird is a wonderful touring car that still looks sharp in spite of its constant use. It was restored for one purpose: cross-country driving. This is not a trailer queen, but a car meant to be a dependable and great looking touring car. The owners took it on a 4,000-mile trip from San Diego, CA to Biloxi, MS for the Cruising the Coast auto show tour. The paint has defects as you would expect from this kind of use. The 292 ci V8 engine has 7,000 miles on it since the rebuild. Mechanically, the car has been gone through. The sellers say it is road worthy. You may note that it has been converted to a 12-volt system. This interesting T-Bird will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with a $24,800 price tag.
What could be more desirable than a hot red Corvette? This week, Classic Car Liquidators in Sherman, Texas have done it again. They have come up with a nice sports car for a very attractive price. This 2004 Corvette Coupe with tinted removable roof has the 5.7L LS1 engine and an automatic transmission. It comes equipped with an aftermarket K&N Cold Air induction system. dual remote mirrors, a Bose Surround Sound system and 4-wheel disc brakes. Classic Car Liquidators also indicates that they will find you financing if you need it. But the asking price is so low that it will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week. They are asking $14,999.
This 1965 Chevy Nova is so clean and straight, you might just be tempted to buy it because of its condition. Shelton Classics & Performance out of Mooresville, North Carolina is offering it for sale this week. The Torque-Thrust style wheels really set off the red paint and complete the 4-door hot rod look. This is one of the rare few cars that looks great as both a 2-door and a 4-door. They say "this six-cylinder engine will move it along at an enjoyable clip. The three-speed manual transmission makes for an even more enjoyable driving experience, and as a whole this car runs very well." The single glasspack exhaust will give such a throaty growl that you'd think it was a V8. In fact, hear it for yourself in this walk-around video tour. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The price will amaze you. Only $9,995.
What's the next best thing to the ever popular Chevrolet Impala? Well, a great substitute would be the Bel Air model. Here is a 1965 Chevrlet Bel Air 2-Door Sedan being offered for sale by a private collector in Boston, Massachusetts this week. He says it is a clean California car with a California title. A West Coast car with the small block Chevrolet engine is both economical to own and a blast to drive for any collector. What a great way to get into the hobby. You might want to have it inspected because the seller does not give us shots of the interior or under the hood. The undercarriage should be clean considering it is being represented as a California car. An inspection would be able to tell for sure. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is only $9,800.
