The legendary Bubble Top, a 1961 Chevrolet Impala SS, could have been considered the first muscle car. It is true that credit usually goes to the 1964 Pontiac GTO, but the original Impala SS Bubble Top came with a big block performance package aimed at the young hot rodders of the era. These cars are very rare today.
This week, a 1961 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport Bubble Top was listed for sale by Classic & Collectible Cars of Las Vegas. What a find this is. It is clad in Roman red paint with a white Impala spear. Of course, it comes with the 348 ci V8 engine with Tripower carburetion and a 4-speed manual transmission. Certain things had to be ordered in 1961 for a buyer to get the Super Sport package. First of all it had to have the big block engine (either the 348 ci, or, later, the 409 ci motor.) It has the power brakes, Moon 7,000 rpm tach, spinner-type wheel covers, and the first-of-their-kind narrow whitewall tires. This one also has an AM radio with dual antennas, bumper guards, spotlight and dual mirrors. Although it now shows Cragar S/S wheels, they say it comes with the original wheels, spinner hubcaps and fender skirts. (See dozens of detailed photos at this link from Classic & Collectible Cars of Las Vegas online.) The SS option included chassis reinforcement, and stronger springs and shocks.
Because of the extra power from the torque-monster 348 ci V8 truck engine, Chevrolet required the extra performance enhancements which came with the SS option. It made it a little more expensive. That may be why only 453 SS Impalas were ever ordered that year. The Super Sport package was only available for the second half of the production year, also. What many collectors don't know about the first year Super Sport Impalas is that they think that fewer than 45 of these cars still exist. So far, that is not being factored into the price on these Bubble Top Super Sports. Now is the time to pick one up before they escalate in value.
Classic & Collectible Cars of Las Vegas tells us this car is "drop dead gorgeous with pristine paint, chrome and interior." It is obvious someone has meticulously maintained this vehicle. They say it is laser straight and rust free.
For more history on the Impala SS Bubble Top cars you will enjoy reading this week's MyDreamCar.online blog page. We have more facts and information on the 348 ci and 409 ci big blocks and how they came into play. Then please add your comments about your Bubble Top experiences in the comments section below the story.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced that the Indy Pace Car for 2019 will be a 2019 Corvette Grand Sport Coupe. They provided photos to the press showing a Long Beach Red metallic beauty with a unique decal package featuring Blade Silver stripes. This year will be the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 race at the speedway. It is the sixteenth time that a Corvette has paced the Indianpolis 500 event. Chevrolet has led the race 30 times, the most of any American car. The Grand Sport will have a Z06 type chassis and the 460-horsepower LT1 motor just like the base Stingray. The Pace Car will have an 8-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet says it will do 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, with Brembo brakes to stop it and the Corvette Magnetic Ride Control. It is estimated that it could pull 1.2 g's in the corners. Chevrolet engines did very well in NTT Indy Car racing last year. Click here to read more from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway news release.

When a New Hampshire hot rodder took time to build his version of a Mopar El Camino, the result happens to be one of the most interesting builds of the year so far. This week a private seller from Rochester, New Hampshire posted an ad for a 2012 Dodge Charger "Ute". He must be part Aussie to use the word "Ute" but it does get the idea across. The reference implies that he grafted a pickup type bed to a passenger vehicle. This Hemi Charger is not a kit, rather a one-of-a-kind conversion. As he halved the roof and removed the back window on the passenger car, he reinforced the frame and fabricated 18-gauge steel skin. It was butt welded using smooth straight panels. The seller says the repaint is probably driver quality. Check out the nice interior with factory look to the modifications. He says the trunk is fully functional. This car has had no accidents, and no rust, according to the description. It still has the original paperwork from new. The same seller did a similar build on a 2008 Chrysler 300 SRT8. Find it for sale here.
A seller from Richmond Hills, Georgia proves their 1969 Boss 302 Convertible runs and drives as good as it looks in this week's video feature. This is a tribute conversion of a factory F code V8 car. It runs on a strong 302 V8 now with an automatic overdrive transmission, power steering, a styling roll bar, and a clean, restored underbody. The seller says you have to see it to believe it, and thanks to the two videos included with the listing, you can do just that.

It is the kind of car you can win a lot of local shows with. He says the black paint is beautiful. It is equipped with a 351W motor mated to a Tremec 5-speed and uses Unisteer column. Built to look like a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang, this Mustang tribute car is said to be a reliable driver. The seller from Cape Girardeau, Missouri thinks it still has its original 351 drivetrain with FMX automatic transmission. It has an aluminum 4-barrel intake and Holley double-pumper carb was added. Ugrades include an MSD Billet distributor and 6AL ignition system. All of this is offered at a very affordable price, well below most tribute cars, at just $24,950.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY section on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
A sharp looking Ontario orange 1972 Corvette is being offered for sale by a private seller in Conway, New Hampshire. The seller says it is a "nice driving Corvette with a recent rebuilt non-matching numbers 350 ci V8. All else original." It has had one repaint in the original color, and the seller says it has the deluxe interior, with power brakes, power steering, air conditioning (needs work), tilt telescopic steering wheel, headers, a healthy cam and very good tires. He says it has a great frame and a "no-hit" body. He says the carpet and seat belts could use replacing. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday this week. The asking price is only $18,000. Now that's what we're talkin' about.
It is pretty amazing that this 1967 Morris Minor 1000 Sedan has been restored just two years ago and is being offered at a very low price for a restored vehicle. The private seller from Stevens Point, Wisconsin says it was restored to factory spec. That included an engine rebuild and a new clutch. It has a 1098 cc, 4 cylinder engine, and a 4-speed transmission. The seller says he has all the receipts to validate the restoration. The brakes are all new with wheel cylinders, hardware kits, and master cylinder. He says there are five new tires installed on powder -coated wheels. Many new authentic reproduction parts were installed during the restoration including all exterior chrome trim. The interior was freshly re-upholstered with dark green cloth and ivory vinyl which is the original pattern on the seats and side trim panels as well as other places. It will be our DEAL of the DAY for Sunday. Incredibly, the asking price is only $10,000
A 1966 Chevrolet C10 Pickup looks so good. Where have these mid-60's classic pickups been hiding? This one looks great. It has been listed for sale by PC Classic Cars in Sherman, Texas. These guys are great at picking up classic cars and trucks at wholesale prices and blowing them out for cheap. They say this one is original, numbers matching with the 283 ci V8 and a 4-speed manual transmission. They say in their description that it has a good body with decent red paint in the original color, new whitewall radial tires on factory wheels and the cool "Panoramic Cab" with the rear window. Like any pickup of that era, it does not have a lot of power options. You have to see this great video walk-around here. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price that is really just pocket change for a collector. They are asking $16,000.
Another great deal from PC Classic Cars is this classic 1955 Ford Thunderbird. It looks great in the photos and they did a walk-around video so you can hear it runs. Click this link to view the video. If you are looking for a classic Thunderbird driver at a great price you have to check this one out. It comes with the removable hardtop, Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels and new wide whitewall radial tires. PC Classic Cars tells us it has a good body with shiny red paint and presents well. They say the interior is in overall good condition. It has the 292 ci V8 engine and a 3-speed manual transmission with floor shifter. It even has the factory tach. You know what we always say, "If you find a classic Thunderbird for under $30,000 ... buy it." It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is $25,500. Hurry on this one.
For the purist, here is a 1951 MG TD Roadster, one of the great collector cars of all time. These little two seater sports cars were the inspiration for a generation of sports car fans who wanted a two-seater gentleman's sporty ride. British car buyers had benefitted from these inexpensive two-seaters for generations before they became available here in the U.S. This one is being offered for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club for a very low price. They say it is a matching numbers example in red with a grey interior. It has a manual transmission, dual carburetors, solid wheels, soft top and side custains, plus a tonneau cover. It also includes the spare tire and jack. You should have it inspected because we suspect it is possible that you would classify it as a restoration project. But they say this one is extremely original and comes from the dry desert of Arizona. What is surprising is the price. They are asking just $12,750.
This is amazing. A private seller from Baton Rouge, Louisiana has listed a beautiful 1957 Pontiac Starchief Bonneville Sedan. He says it is mostly original with less than 14,000 miles. Only 14,000 miles!! He says it is a great cruiser, runs well on the highway. The black and coral color scheme is very attractive. With a large rear seat it makes a nice wedding car. For its era it comes loaded with options, including power brakes, power steering, power widnows, power seats, rear defroster and the autonic eye for dimming headlights. It even has a spotlight. Factory air has been replaced with a Vintage Air Gen 4 unit. This one would be fun to inspect before you buy. But hurry. The askiing price on this one is only $19,995.
Don't miss this chance to own a beautiful 1982 Chevy Fleetside C1500 Custom Show Truck which they say has been professionally restored. The stunning Torch Red pickup is completely rebuilt with custom mods, a street machine for truck guys. Note the billet grille, rear roll pan, 17" American Racing chrome wheels with new radials and black tonneau cover. The "perfect" charcoal custom interior is shown in the photos. It has all power options and comes with digital gauges. It is powered by a fresh 5.0L V8 with strong THM 700 transmission. The seller is Humpty Dumpty Classic Cars in Sarasota. They say it has been a lifelong Florida truck. It will be the DEAL of the DAY later in the week with an asking price of $18,900.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
