The sports touring cars of the Great Gatsby era are now art deco portraits of a Roaring Twenties America. Then the hammering effect of the Great Depression robbed us of that until after WWII. But the aesthetics of that era survive in their automotive artifacts.
That's why it is so amazing when a 1928 Packard Eight Dual Cowl Phaeton showed up this week in our Packard Section online. Daniel Schmitt & Company from St Louis, Missouri are offering this incredible vintage motorcar for sale. Finished in medium brown with dark brown beltline, contrasting black fenders, and burnt orange disc wheels and trim, the Packard looks incredible. They create a stunning art deco look and stance. This Packard is known as a Custom Eight Model 443, a five-passenger touring car, and is considered a “full classic” by the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA.) It has been said that the Model 443 Packards were the pinnacle of Packard's influence on automotive design.
Some of the Packard’s refinements include wind wings, cowl lamps, outside mirrors and a trunk rack. A past owner had installed a set of wooden cabinets behind the driver’s seat. The wood dash and door trim are restored to a deep gloss. As the iconic Packard radiator shell is protected by a stainless steel stone guard, it is an example of cutting edge detail for the 1920's. A folding luggage rack was to accomodate a removable trunk. A rear folding tonneau windshield could be adjusted by passengers to keep them un-ruffled during top down touring.
Today, the Packard 443 Phaeton is considered to be one of Packard’s most desirable collector models because it achieved a level of engineering, style and luxury that could only come from Packard.
You can read more history on the Model 433 Packards in a MyDreamCar.online blog post today. You'll also get the production numbers and get a sense of the impact that the Packard Motor Company cars had on a pre-war America. Use the "Comments Section" below the story to give us your stories about the legendary Packard motorcars.

A famous hot rod builder named Don Thelan of Buffalo Motor Cars is known for his legendary build on the ZZ Top car called "Eliminator." The same Don Thelan built this 1934 Ford 3-Window Pro Street listed this week by a private seller from Castaic, California. It has been featured in nearly every hot rod magazine, and won numerous awards over the years. Thelan used a Gibbon fiberglass body with aluminum hood, sporting flames by Lil' Louie. The 6/71 Mooneyham blower pumps fresh air into a 400 small block motor while a Turbo 400 3-speed automatic is race-built and polished. He used a Detroit locker rear end, and one-off Mike Curtis machined wheels. (You'll remember Mike Curtis is from American Hot Rod.)
The Fall Raleigh Classic Auction for 2018 will be held on December 7-8 in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is one of those events all the good ole boys from the Southeast know about. For some years now, Chris Lieth has sponsored this unique classic car auction drawing some really nice low-mile collector cars. It is the auction all the classic car dealers just can't miss. If you can't be there in person you can register now to place your phone bids. Here are some of the featured cars we look forward to seeing in December:
Early Ford Woody Station Wagons are hot collector cars in today's market. Here is a 1934 Ford Woody Wagon that has been kept original It has had a frame off restoration that was completed in New England. It is equipped with a flathead V8 engine, 3-speed manual transmission, side curtains, side mounted spare, twin taillights and wide white walls. It also has been converted to a 12 volt system and the mechanical brakes work well on this beautiful black Woody. They estimate the value at about $58,000 to $62,000, far below what they are going for on the West Coast.
The Edsel experiment at Ford was a disaster from which Ford had a hard time recovering. But today these cars are among the most desirable collector cars you can find. At the Fall Raleigh Classic you will have a chance to bid on this 1958 Edsel Citation Convertible, arguably one of the most important Edsel production cars built. It was the highest priced Edsel from the 1958 model year and is one of just 930 such convertibles produced. It came with a 345 horsepower 410 ci E-475 OHV V8 engine. It came with the Teletouch (push button) automatic transmission. The 1958 Edsel Citation Convertible is the ultimate, most prestigious and costly Edsel from the 1958 Model year and is one of just 930 produced. It is equipped with the 345 horsepower 410 cubic inch E-475 OHV V8 engine and Teletouch automatic transmission. Features include power brakes, power steering, power windows, power top and scalloped rear fenders. This Edsel Citation is reportedly 1 of 3 produced in this stunning color combination and the only one known to exist.
Among the collector cars that seem to be increasing in desirablility are the 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupes, a one-year only build for Chevrolet's iconic sports car. The second-generation Corvette Sting Ray stands as a massive landmark in Corvette’s rapid rise into a world-beating sports car. This example is a very rare, numbers matching 340 horsepower split-window coupe that has just 1,583 miles since the recent award winning concours restoration. Finished in Sebring Silver with dark blue interior, this beauty received NCRS Top Flight honors in September 2015. Purchase will include owner’s manual, restoration receipts, show award and some owner history. Readers may remember that the Split Window Corvette is No. 3 on our Top 10 Most Popular Collector Cars of All Time.

Everything on this 1967 Corvette Coupe is in great working order according to the private seller of Greenwood, Indiana. Incredibly, it's an almost completely original car that recently won the Celebrity Choice Award at Corvette Funfest 2018. A collector from Riverside, California is having to give up on his most recent project because of health issues. Here is a 1957 Ford Country Squire Sedan Wagon, a project wagon, with a custom restoration underway. It is your chance to finish what might be considered by some an "easy project." The seller says it is "the most honest, unmolested 61-year-old version you will ever find. No rust, solid floor boards, no major body damage, has all original stainless in perfect condition." It already has new front and rear seats, 2" drop spindles, power disc front brakes, new rear brakes, re-conditioned gas tank, new springs and shocks front and rear. This 1949 Dodge Fargo Panel Delivery was featured in our New Listings here in ths newsletter just a few weeks ago. At the time it was listed by a Canadian collector at a price of $69,500. It certainly is a very rare collector vehicle. In fact, it may be the only one you'll find in this condition. He says it is a trophy winning delivery which was restored from the ground up. (Read more info in the ad.) Just this week the seller decided to reduce the price to $55,000. You should have it inspected before you buy, but it is a very interesting find. The seller says it was his ten-year labor of love and no expense was spared in the restoration.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY section on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
It is easy to forget that the fastest production vehicle of 1978 was not a sports car, but a factory produced hot rod truck. Yes, this 1978 Dodge Lil Red Express came out for the first time in 1978. The Adventurer 150 series half-ton pickup came with the Lil Red Express logo on the doors and exhaust stacks mounted on the stepside and wood package trim. It was a stunning display that had everything a "truck guy" could want. Hot Rod magazine averaged 14.70 seconds at 93-plus mph in several quarter-mile passes during their test drive that year. For 1978, after Federal controls on performance vehicles when into effect, it was the fastest car or truck made that year. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the Mopar collector selling the truck is only asking $16,500.
We have a "cult" group of collectors who cherish classic Hudson vehicles. Everytime one gets listed they swarm. So we hope you get a shot at this 1942 Hudson Commodore 8 while it is still for sale. Unique Specialty & Classics out of Mankato, Minnesota just listed it for sale at a very nice price point. They tell us it is a great running and driving vehicle so it should peak a lot of interest. They say it was originally from South Dakota where they do not have rust issues because they don't use salt on the roads. The Blue and Silver metallic paint shines really nice along with a clean interior. The 4-wheel hydraulic brakes are a huge upgrade because this is a big car. It still has its factory heater and defroster, correct wheels and beauty rings, and the odometer reads 47,010 miles. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $13,900.
Cars-On-Line newsletter readers have often heard us say, "If you find a classic first generation Thunderbird for sale for under $30,000 ... buy it." That has been sound advice for our readers for over fiften years now. There are classic T-Birds that will sell at the Barrett-Jackson this year for six figure sums. So, when you get a chance to find a car such as this one from Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, California for under $30,000 you have to check it out. In fact, this would be a great example of a car you should have inspected before you buy. But hurry! This elegant 1955 Ford Thunderbird comes in a very rare Spring Mist Green color with a white interior. It has an auxiliary hardtop and they say the V8 engine runs strong. The transmission is a 3-speed manual. They call it an excellent weekend driver so we feel it might be a No. 3 condition car. (Follow this link to see a breakdown of condition classes we used in appraising classic cars.) It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price of $21,750.
By 1961 Cadillac had adopted a more muted fin and more mature design but it still was the top luxury car model in the United States. This 1961 Cadillac Coupe DeVille is said to be in "mint condition" by its New York based private seller. The original owner took care of it all of its life. They say it currently shows 40,000 original miles. The seller notes that a lot of money has been spent to keep it in award winning condition with $20,000 alone in the paint. It also has a brand new $6,000 custom CD changer stereo system. Naturally, it was garage kept. The seller says it has never been out in the rain. "This is for sure one of the best around ... " What's more, everything is said to work. It will be our DEAL of the DAY come next week. The asking price is $24,000. (Be sure to have it inspected before you buy.)
If you have never visited Staunton, Illinois to see the much talked about Country Classic Cars classic car dealership there, it is something to behold. We were there once when they said they had over 1,000 old cars there in various states of condition, many of them projects. Today they've listed a 1941 Pontiac Silver Streak, a very desirable classic car. It is one of the most popular cars from the 1940's. Country Classic Cars does not say much about their rare Pontiac This is one you should have inspected before you buy. But it is an interesting find. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is $16,250.
Few cars are more popular in the collector car market than the Chevy II Nova. It is hard to understand, but the private seller from Chico, California says this 1964 Chevy II Pro Street has never been raced. It was built to drive and show. From the built 355 ci SBC with Blower Shop 6-71 blower to the 700R4 automatic transmission with the shift kit, this car was made to perform. It has the Spec-rite 2800 stall converter, Hurst Quarter-stick shifter, narrowed GM 12-bolt posi with Moser axles and 3.73 gears; leaf springs with cal-tracs and sub-frame connectors, and front disc ('82 - '92 Camaro) brakes. It has a Smith racecraft tubular front clip. The motor was professionally machined and assembled in 2013. It will be our DEAL of the DAY in the coming week. Asking only $28,000 for a pro street of this caliber, I think you'll agree it is a lotta' car for the money.
Phoenician yellow was one of the most popular colors when the first 1965 Mustang Convertible came onto the American new car scene. This one is most often referred to as a 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible because it was produced in the first runs that came out early in 1964 so it could be out in time for the opening of the New York World's Fair. The 1964 1/2 editions are highly prized by Mustang collectors. Orlando Classic Cars in Orlando, Florida is offering this one for sale today. Take a look at all the beautiful photos on their ad page. Look fast, though. It won't be available for long. They are only asking $26,500. It comes with the 289 V8, 4-speed manual transmission, dual exhaust, Rally pack, center console, dual mirrors and GT style fog lamps. This one is set up right.
