For the first time ever here on the Cars-On-Line.com website we have a 1950 Kurtis Sport Car for sale. It is one of the few hand-built two-seater American sports cars built by the legendary Frank Kurts. Kurtis was a famous race car builder who moonlighted designing cars for jet setters and movie stars. He built this one for Indianapolis 500 race car owner Jack Hinkle. It appeared in the 1954 Hollywood feature Johnny Dark starring actor Tony Curtis.
Rare as a frog's hair, the 1950 Kurtis Sport Car you see here is being offered for sale by Legendary Motorcar Company. They are the same classic car dealership that offered a 1951 Muntz Jet for sale in September. Our readers may remember when we featured it here in the newsletter. (See the story featured in the Cars-On-Line.com newsletter in September, 2018.) To say this car is rare is really understating the facts. It may be the first one our readers have ever seen. Legendary tells us it was the last Kurtis Sport Car produced at Kurtis' Glendale, California race car shop.
The subject of a beautiful concours restoration, this 1950 Kurtis Sport Car body was taken down to bare aluminum and every panel fitted to better than when it was new. Following the metal work, the body was painted to a concours quality, having been wet sanded and polished. The trim has been polished and straightened and bumpers re-chromed.
In 1949, Kurtis began building his iconic Sport Car and formed a partnership with St. Louis Kurtis-Kraft race car dealer Ed Walsh to create Kurtis Sports Cars, Inc. They then set to work designing and developing a sports car that could be put into production. Kurtis liked to set up race cars with a softer suspension than other builders, so when he built the Kurtis Sport Car, naturally, his suspension was more comfortable than comparable European sports cars. For the last cars he built in this series, Kurtis used the 331 ci Cadillac motor special tuned at his shop, with a 3-speed Cadillac transmission.
A lot of the features that Kurtis designed into his Kurtis Sport Car were later adopted by the big three automotive manufacturers. The steering column could be adjusted to the driver, much likea tilt steering column. The big bumpers were mounted on rubber shock absorbers. And the body was made out of aluminum which made it very light. Fast car.
Readers who want to know more about the Kurtis Sport Car will find a detailed history on the MyDreamCar.online blog site. Be sure to use the comments box at the bottom of the blog to tell us your recollections of this era. We love to hear your ideas.

At the big Las Vegas SEMA show this year, there was some excitement at the Ford displays as well as in the outside performance displays. American Muscle’s Stephanie Wood hosts a video from SEMA 2018 where she toured the show grounds in search of her Top Three aftermarket retro 2019 Mustangs. You can view American Muscle's review here in their latest Hot Lap episode on YouTube. You'll notice some of the top aftermarket builders (such as Richard Childress Racing) and how they are using performance products to enhance these hot Mustangs. Also included in this episode are one-on-ones with several influential attendees including an exclusive announcement from Roush Performance. Some interesting news for Ford performance enthusiasts.
When a 1932 Stutz DV-32 LeBaron Convertible Victoria appeared at the Hilton Head Island Concours this past weekend it was a rare treat for the spectators. This Stutz is the only Convertible Victoria model known to exist. And it won Best In Show at the prestigious Concours d' Elegance at the Port Royal Golf Club. (Follow this link to see more of the show winners and top cars on display at the Hilton Head Island Concours.) Now in its 17th year, the Hilton Head Motoring Festival (HHMF), which has become one of the most anticipated events on the Island, begins with the Savannah Speed Classic in Savannah, Georgia and culminates with the Car Club Showcase and the Concours d'Elegance, this past Saturday and Sunday. Photos and videos were captured for our readers by Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos.com.
An investment quality 1969 Boss 429 Mustang was SOLD this week by a Pennsylvania private collector who used a COL Run Till Sold ad. This was a true KK car in Royal Maroon having undergone a full rotisserie restoration completed in August of 2017. This was the right car for the right buyer. With a number of national level awards under its belt, this was a true "trailer queen." We love it when sellers let us know when we have SOLD a car for them. "You have a nice selection of cars for sale to buyers," he told us. "When I am looking to buy, I will go here first." Now Lyle knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell on Cars-On-Line." Follow this link to the SOLD section below where you will see all of the private sellers who SOLD their cars through COL this week. When you see how effective a Cars-On-Line.com ad can be, you may want to advertise your car with Cars-On-Line.com. Click here to start your ad now.

NASCAR Champion race car driver Rusty Wallace was at a ZZ Top concert where he saw Billy Gibbons' Ford Eliminator Coupe street rod. He was smitten. But when he couldn't buy the Eliminator from Gibbins he set out on a crusade to build a 1933 Ford 3-Window Coupe just like it. His quest took him to Henry Dana, a noted car builder employed at Penske South at the time. They decided on an Outlaw body, with a Total Cost Involved chassis, and a 351 Ford SVO built by Robert Yates of Yates Racing Engines. Paul Atkins did the incomparable interior. Spray on the PPG Black Cherry paint and they had themselves a Street Rodder Car of the Year. The work done on this car lives as a tribute to the modern technology available to today's hot rodders. The car is currently being offered for sale by a private seller out of Bayfield, Colorado. This car has the provenance and superb quality.
One of Carroll Shelby's treasured cars, this 1983 DeTomaso Pantera GTS was in his collection all its life. He was the only owner. It still has just 4,571 actual miles. It is one of only about 138 which were brought to the U.S. It is said to be the last red factory GTS ever built. The documentation on this car includes the insurance card, a copy of the 1985 EPA Compliance Test, and a Shelby Vehicle Authenticity Certificate. It has 15" Campagnolo alloy wheels. It just could be the best Pantera on the market today. It is being offered for sale by Daniel Schmitt & Company out of St Louis, Missouri.
Moving to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles for 2018, RM Sotheby's premier auction sale in Southern California will take place on December 8. The caliber of the event will be akin to RM Sotheby's groundbreaking New York collector car auctions, held biennially at Sotheby's global headquarters in Manhattan. The Petersen Automotive Museum Auction will feature approximately 50–60 blue-chip automobiles, hand-selected by RM Sotheby's global team of 30 Car Specialists. The offerings will be fully researched for pedigree and historically accurate cars. Los Angeles is a world class venue with exciting accomodations, making for a perfect place to enjoy an auction event of this magnitude.
Here are some of the exciting headliners for the Petersen Museum event:
There are not too many classic cars in the world more desirable than this 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing. Gullwings are easily one of the Top Ten classic motorcars of all time. It was a game changer for its time. Gullwings were the first factory produced fuel injected cars, which came with tubular-steel, space-frame chassis, and those incredible engineered cantileavered doors. This one is a very rare Light Green metallic color. The owner says it has never been restored because it does not need it.
The 2015 McLaren P1 is a special edition super car which was produced in limited numbers from 2013 to 2015. A mid-engine design, the rear-wheel-drive P1 uses a carbon fibre monocoque and roof structure concept called MonoCage. It will keep you safe with a top speed of 217 mph. They say it will do 0-193 in 6.9 seconds. Interestingly, the 2015 McLaren P1 can also function as an electric vehicle, and its 177-hp electric motor can power the hypercar for up to 6 miles at speeds as high as 99 mph. It competes with the Porsche 918 and the LaFerrari. This one will be offered at the Petersen Museum Auction on December 8.
Serious collectors will all give a close look at this 1964 Shelby 289 Cobra, CSX 2216, a "slab-side" Cobra. When it crosses the auction block at the Petersen Museum next month I'll bet you will be able to hear a pin drop. It comes with a known history. The body left the UK aboard the SS Pacific Fortune, which set sail for the U.S. on 7 November 1963 destined for Los Angeles, California. Upon arrival in the States, the Cobra was transported to Shelby American, Inc. in Venice. There, the car received its Ford powertrain, which included a 271-hp, 289-cu. in. Hi-Po V-8 engine, a four-speed manual transmission, and a Powr-Lok limited-slip differential. Shelby American invoiced Pearson Ford in San Diego on 13 January 1964. The window sticker MSRP shows
The Lincoln based 1960's Batmobile is an icon of both the classic automotive hobby and TV culture. As the original was designed by George Barris, other Batmobiles were created to promote the show. Considered to be the "sixth" Batmobile to be built, this one was created by Jay Orhrberg Hollywood Cars, one of the premier movie car creators. It is believed that this Batmobile was used to tour the U.S. highlighting the dangers of alcohol and drugs to children of the '60s. It was built on a 1959 Lincoln chassis with a hand-built steel body. Categorized as one of the original period correct Batmobiles, it will be offered for sale at the Petersen Museum Auction December 8.

This week's PRICE REDUCED feature car is an interesting find. The seller just got really motivated. We have a cult group of Hudson followers who watch Cars-On-Line.com every week. They will be thrilled to see this 1941 Hudson Business Coupe street rod for sale at such an affordable price. We are pretty sure you could buy it at this price and flip it. The seller from Illinois says it is a high dollar street rod and you know its rare. He says it has been meticulously cared for and has brand new paint, new rims and new tires. It is powered by a 440 big block Mopar motor rated at 430 hp with 515 ft-lbs of torque and a 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission. What's more, he says it is a safe, reliable driver. It was appraised for $35,000. But the seller just reduced the price to $25,000. (Be sure to have it inspected before you buy. But hurry!)

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
Finding a nice Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible from the muscle car era is a little harder than you might think. This 1970 Olds Cutlass Convertible is a rarity in today's market. The fact that it is in our DEAL of the DAY today is amazing because that means it is being offered for sale at a discount to the average market value. The seller from New Richmond, Wisconsin says it is mostly original with its 350 rocket motor that was rebuilt 12k miles ago bolted to it's turbo 350 tranny. Has air conditiong unit which needs an r12 recharge, but all the parts are there, he says. He says he only drives it to shows. The asking price is $24,500
Another car from Wisconsin has made the DEAL of the DAY listings this week. Here is a 1947 Packard Super Clipper which the seller says has just 82k miles on it. The seller says it has been certified by the CCCA as a "Full Classic" which is no small honor. It is a very unique and rare car to find. Only two post-war models have been certified that way. This is one of the Packard models which was designed by Dutch Darrin. It has a 356 ci engine with 9 main bearings (biggest production engine in '46 and '47.) The seller says it runs smooth and quiet at interstate speeds. Yet, it is our DEAL of the DAY for Sunday because the asking price is only $11,900.
Cars-On-Line readers know what we always say about first generation Ford Thunderbirds. If you find a good one for under $30,000 ... buy it. The key is to have it inspected in order to know its condition class. A 1955 Ford Thunderbird is being offered for sale this week by a seller from Minnesota. The seller says it is a low mileage red Thunderbird "in good condition." The steel-bodied 1955 T-bird has the standard removable fiberglass hardtop with roll-up windows. It has a 292 ci Y-block motor topped by a single four-barrel carburetor with dual exhaust, power steering and Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price of $29,000.
What an interesting vintage motorcar this is. The 1931 Ford Model A Roadster is a rumble seat roadster with a luggage carrier. The West Virginia seller says it starts, runs and drives well. The description indicates that it had been rescued from long-term storage but is now up and running. It is all steel with an original gas tank, original drive trains an has been upgraded to hydraulic brakes. Notice the wire wheels. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this coming week because the asking price is affordable for a starting collector. The seller is offering it for just $15,000.
You want a cool old school hot rod? Here is a 1950 Plymouth P19 2-Door Coupe with a '56 Desoto 330 Hemi engine. What a great combination! This car has a GM TH350 automatic transmission, Ford 9" rear end with 4.11 gears, Vintage Air, Fat Man power steering, Rusty Hope front disc brakes, Haneline gauges and a Champion radiator. Hot Heads, adjustable push rods and 340 high volumne oil pump are all part of the built .030 bored engine with ARP main studs and rod bolts. It is topped by a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb and comes with an SBC aluminum water pump, electric wipers and CD player. You get a Jegs converter on a rebuilt TH350 tranny. It comes with a clear title. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $18,000.
Look at the photos of the undercarriage on this 1965 Chevy C10 Shortbed Pickup truck. The seller from St Clair, Michigan said the underbody was fully done during restoration and is now show quality. He describes the "all brand new suspension and exhaust," original style interior, 4-bolt main V8, Turbo 350 automatic. He says it was a full frame-off restoration with less than 600 miles on the redo. Notice the solid, straight body with light Mint Green paint. Nice wheels and whitewall tires complete the look. You can see how nicely the bed was done. "This truck is show and go," the seller tells us. "You can drive it anywhere. No expense spared on this truck." It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. He is asking $16,500.
