A surprise listing on the Cars-On-Line.com website this week may cause a little controversy, but you will have to admit this is an interesting find. So a Canton, Ohio collector listed his prized 1968 Corvette L-89 427/435 Coupe this week. He has the window sticker to prove that it is a #s matching big block. The interesting thing about this car, however, is that it looks like the original owner built it into a drag racing car with period Motion style parts and in Baldwin-Motion trim. The seller believes it was built with true Motion catalog mail order parts. There is some evidence that this might be true.
What separates this 1968 Corvette L-89 427 Coupe from being just a tribute is the compelling evidence that the car was built with Motion parts which were obtainable from the Motion Performance catalog back in 1968 and 1969. For those who know a little about Motion Corvettes, Marty Schorr of Motion Performance produced a parts catalog so that gearheads could order their specialized parts by mail order. The Ohio collector has researched the way a Motion Performance car would have been built. He indicates that the parts found on this car would lead him to believe it was built from the Motion Performance catalogs.
He notes the Motion type parts include:
(1) Edelbrock 427x aluminum intake manifold
(2) Motion valve covers (with Motion breathers)
(3) Sure Grip rear end
(4) Phase III ignition box
(5) AC Delco electrical fuel pump
Furthermore, when he bought the Corvette, the seller said it had a Hone Overdrive automatic transmission installed. You will notice the L-88 style sidepipes in the photos. It has the big fender flares which could have come with a Motion Corvette (but not all Motion Corvettes had them.)
Even though the L-89 Corvette was built just the way a Motion Performance car would have been built back in the day, the seller says there is no actual documentation on the Motion type parts. He says he did a frame-off restoration on the car keeping it true to its race history, and preserving the Motion Performance look. We have seen several Motion Corvettes sold over the years that were not built at Motion Performance, but were built with Motion parts from the mail order catalogs. Collectors will see this car as being very desirable if those are actually Motion parts on this car.
Think about it. If you buy the big block Corvette at the asking price you get a good value. Then, if you have Joel Rosen verify that these are real Motion Performance parts, you might find that the car is worth twice what the seller is currently asking. Be sure to read the MyDreamCar.online report on this car. Then contribute your opinions in the comment area at the bottom of the article. We want to know what you think.

One of the most interesting collector car shows in the country happens this weekend at the Hilton Head Island Concours 2018. Join Cars-On-Line.com for coverage of this important Concours d' Elegance at the Port Royal Golf Club on Hilton Head Island. Now in its 16th year, the Hilton Head Motoring Festival (HHMF), which has become one of the most anticipated events on the Island, began earlier with the Savannah Speed Classic in Savannah, Georgia and culminates with the Car Club Showcase and the Concours d’Elegance on November 4 and 5. The quality of the show cars is on a level with such concours as Pebble Beach and Amelia Island. Preview the Hilton Head Island Concours 2018 here. Then bookmark this link to see our coverage.
A phenomena that has more to do with the vagaries of the currency exchange rates than with the value of collector cars is occuring in today's collector car market. Buyers from the U.S. are finding a treasure trove of value in the Canadian market. The U.S. dollar is so strong on the world market that it gives U.S. buyers an edge on buying collectibles all over the world. Since Canada is our closest neighbor and the one with the most collectible cars, it is becoming a hot spot for collector car buyers from the U.S. Here is an example. A Corvette enthusiast from Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada is offering his 1966 Corvette Convertible for sale. In Canada, he is asking $69,405 Canadian dollars (ducks). But here in the U.S. that is only $52,900 in U.S. currency. To make the deal even sweeter, he is including shipping in that price. Right now collector cars in Canada are on sale for 25 percent off because of the currency exchange. Try using our search engine at the top of this page to find cars and trucks for sale from Canadian provinces (BC, ON, QC, AB, etc. Maybe you'll find a diamond in the rough.
Remember when we spotted the Ed Roth Mysterion recreation at the Amelia Island Concours last year? It was on loan from the Ed Roth Rat Fink display at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles. It so happens that the same Ed Roth Mysterion tribute is to be sold at No Reserve at the Petersen Museum Auction, December 8, 2018. Cars-On-Line.com readers may want to be on hand at the Petersen Museum for this sale of vehicles from the museum archives. The RM Sotheby's auction will be an event to be remembered for California collectors. Follow this link to see some of the very exclusive inventory being pulle together for the special sale. And stay tuned for more on this sale to be announced in the coming weeks right here in the COL newsletter.

When the street Hemi came out you would have seen them at the drag striip in cars such as this 1966 Dodge 426 Hemi Coronet 500. It belongs to a private owner in Joplin, Missouri. He says it is showing just 17,500 miles believed to be original. Most of those miles were put on a quarter-mile at a time as this was used as a drag car in its early years. Then a retired dentist had it in his collection for the past 35 years. Check the ad copy for numbers history. It comes with an incredible amount of documentation to include original window sticker, build sheet, metal certi-card,owners manual with typed warranty card, original carpet tag and seat belts, and original fender tag in place. Be sure to have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. You don't find a documented original 426 Hemi survivor everyday.

Legendary Motorcar Company just posted a 1969 Corvette L-89 Convertible with a numbers matching 427/435 hp big block motor and aluminum heads. It is amazing to think that this car has only 358 original documented miles. Legendary tells us it has never been titled and is still on its MSO. How does that happen? All great muscle cars come from a racing heritage. One of the earlists drag strip legends was the 1964 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt won the 1964 NHRA Super Stock championship for Ford. A sweet Lime Green 1971 Chevelle SS big block car is being offered for sale by Cool Cars of Pompano Beach, Florida. It will be our featured DEAL of the DAY this week because the asking price is only $28,500. It comes with the cowl hood and a built 402 ci big block bored .30 over with 10:50.1 heads and an Edelbrock high rise manifold. Talk to Manny at Cool Cars for all the details. It looks like this one is all high performance. It has headers with Flowmaster mufflers, 411 GE ARS, fuel cell, polished Weld wheels (1970's look) and they say it really sounds great. Manny will tell you that it has been adult owned and never abused.
There are so many Ford street rods in the market that it is a pleasure to find a 1936 Chevy Tudor Coach that looks like it was nicely modified. The street rod is being offered for sale by a private seller from Debary, Florida. Naturally, this is an all steel body street rod with a rebuilt 350 ci V8 and a Turbo 350 automatic transmission. The seller says it has fresh black cherry paint and cream colored leather interior. The sharp combination gives it a luxurious look and it has lots of luxury features for a classic car. In fact it comes with Vintage air, power steering, power front disc brakes, power antenna and a power driver's seat. The Sony stereo, cruise control and some new parts are nice updates. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $22,500.
A widow from Gillette, Wyoming finds herself in the situation of having to sell a treasured project left by her deceased partner. This sharp looking 1948 Crosley CC Wagon is an unusual microcar, hard to find in today's market. You can tell from the photos that it will need some work, especially to finish the interior. It is in running condition with the original engine. The fuel gauge and speedometer do not work, an the undercarriage is original. You might want to have it inspected before you buy. But she says it has been repainted, the seats have been recovered, the windows and slides have been replaced. It has all new wiring with turn signals and tail lights added. There is a lot to like about this project car. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday because the asking price is only $10,000.
In an time when GM's car companies were moving away from the muscle car era, Pontiac was still catering to the younger sports car buyer. In 1977 they produced a Lemans Sport model called the Can Am, a tribute to the Can Am racing series. It was a full sized high performance vehicle to appeal to the sports car performance market. Since only 1,377 of these Can Ams were ever produced, it is rare to find a 1977 Pontiac Can Am in nice condition. A private seller from Unionville, Missouri has listed this one for sale. The seller says he is serious about selling this one. You may want to have it inspected before you buy. The seller says it is "nice" and that he is open to offers. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $16,500.
Since the re-entry of the Camaro to the market place, Chevrolet's top seller is rarely seen in our DEAL of the DAY feature. But here is a 2012 Camaro RS Convertible being offered for sale by P.J.'s Auto World in Clearwater, Florida today. Some of the extras include a rear deck spoiler, remote start heads up display and a center console with floor shifter. It is all ready to drop the top and cruise! The asking price? Remember when they introduced the new 1966 Dodge Charger with the fastback look in 1965? That was a revolutionary design for sure. This week a Mopar collector from Texas is offering his 1966 Dodge Charger with some custom tweaks. He says it was an original 383 big block car with air conditioning, but it now sports a big 440 Magnum. It comes with a 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission, and the seller says it is a solid, rust free Charger. Per the ad copy, everything works including the hide-a-way head lights. He describes it as a clean driver car, nice console, everything working and with a very clean interior. (Check out the photos.) This is a muscle car hot rod. The seller notes that you may not find anythiing on the market today this solid and high performance for under $20,000. The asking price is $19,500.
