Five years ago Mopar collectors would never have thought it possible. Could first year Hemi Challenger R/T's be overtaking the vaunted Hemi Cudas for Mopar supremacy? In the Cars-On-Line.com Top Ten Muscle Car list (see feature story below) the Dodge Challenger is now the most sought after muscle car on the internet. That's what the statistics from Google and Bing search engines tell us for the last thirty days. Over 28 percent of collector car buyers were looking for Dodge Challenger muscle cars. It is the first time that the E-Body Dodge Challenger has reached the No. 1 spot in our "Top Ten Most Popular" list.
It makes sense to us based on an article published on the MyDreamCar.online blog site yesterday. In it we feature a 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T just posted for sale in the COL Mopar Muscle Car Section. The current owner acquired the car at the turn of the century and proceeded to restore it to original. "Everything on this car is basically to spec," he told us. That is, all except for the Shaker hood. He couldn't resist hanging a Shaker hood on his newly restored Hemi Challenger R/T. It just looked so good with it on. "It is an original Shaker hood, not a reproduction," he noted. "But I have the original hood to go with the car, also." This car originally came stripe delete. It still has the Mopar dog dish hubcaps the way it was outfitted from the factory.
One reason why the 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T is becoming more valuable to Mopar muscle car collectors is because there were only 286 Hemi Challenger R/T hardtops ever built by Chrysler that year. Compare that to 652 Hemi Cuda hardtops produced in the first year of the E-Body Hemi cars. On top of that, only 137 of the '70 Hemi Challenger R/T's came with 4-speeds. So these 4-speed R/T's with the Super Track Pack option are extremely rare and desirable. We may discover also that not as many Hemi Challengers have survived as Hemi Cudas.
For more history on the 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T readers will want to read the new feature story on our MyDreamCar.online blog site. Use the "Comment" box below the story to tell us about your Hemi Mopar experiences. If your motto is "Mopar or No Car" you'll want to join in on the conversation.

Carroll Shelby was thinking about ways to put American horsepower in European race designed sports cars as early as 1959. In an attempt to blend the best of Italian design and American powertrains he enlisted Sergio Scaglietti, creator of the timeless Ferrari Testa Rossa. They built a "better" Corvette Fuelie, fabricating it in flowing, streamlined, lightweight coupe coachwork. Unfortunately, the GM execs didn't like anything that smacked of racing. So they nixed the project. Shelby made sure, though, that some lucky racing privateers got hold of the three prototypes. This 1959 Scaglietti Corvette Fuelie is one of the three, restored today in its racing livery. It still retains its unique racing equipment including a braced full width bolt in roll bar, side exhaust, and steel wheels with Goodyear Super Cushion tires. This incredible piece of racing history probably belongs in a museum. But it is now being offered for public sale by Legendary Motorcar Company. They deal in high end collector cars and muscle cars. This could be the center piece of any top tier race car collection.
Cars-On-Line.com has seen its share of 1950's Packards over the years. However this is the first 1956 Packard Caribbean Convertible that we have seen in this color combination. Daniel Schmitt & Company have it in their St Louis Gallery today. Not only is it rare, but it also has a ton of provenance coming from the private collection of Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy. There were only 276 Caribbeans produced in total that year. And 1956 was the final year for Packard convertibles. Click here to view a video walk-around presentation on this beautiful classic car in the Daniel Schmitt showroom.

Next week we'll be in Auburn, Indiana to attend the Auburn Spring Auction by RM Auctions. Our Cars-On-Line car show team will bring you all the live action from the RM Autions Park. We've been impressed with the auction docket of cars and trucks which will be sold there next week. Here are some of the featured cars we look forward to seeing:
One of the top vintage classics at the Auburn Spring Auction next weekend will be this 1931 Cord L29 Cabriolet, one of the most desirable American Classics; a landmark in engineering and design. It represented one of E.L. Cord's most significant achievements. The Classic Car Club of America noted its historical provenance and established pedigree. They say it has recently undergone a ground-up restoration. You will find it rated among the top vintage cars in the country.
Here is one of the Batmobile recreations used to promote the Batman TV show on tour. This is Batmobile recreation #5. They say it has had only four owners during its lifetime and was previously owned by George Barris. It is a steel body car, and comes with extensive history including period photographs. This is a pop culture celebrity car which has gained value in recent years. The car was built in 1966 by Jim Sermersheim, a Batman fan from the '60s. The third owner of the car restored it.
Classic 1950's cars rule right now in the collector car hobby. There will be a ton of them in the RM Auctions sale next week in Auburn, Indiana. This highly desirable 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible is one of them. It has a Dusty Rose exterior with a white top and complimentary light beige interior. Ahead of its time, it was equipped with an Autronic Eye (headlight dimmer) and push-button radio from the factory. Note the Cadillac chrome Saber-Spoke wheels with wide whitewall tires.
We'll be watching as this 1969 Mercury Cougar 428CJ Convertible crosses the auction block next week. It will be offered at No Reserve during the Auburn Spring Auction at the RM Auctions Park. From the photos we believe it to be in No. 3 daily driver condition. Check out the photos for yourself at the link. We think some lucky bidder will be thrilled to take home this big block muscle car. The estimated sale price is between $40,000 and $50,000.

Are you up to becoming the third owner of this 1970 Ford Torino GT? A seller in Blasdell, New York just listed it and tells us it comes with several original documents including the build sheet, owner's manual, owner card, sales invoice, and even a Marti Report. It has a restored dash pad and instrument cluster, as well as a professionally applied coat of PPG 2-stage Grabber Green. The drivetrain consists of a 351-4v M-code and a 4-speed transmission. The price is just $23,500, with reasonable offers considered. Take a look or perhaps get it appraised/inspected yourself.
Tarrs, Pennsylvania is currently home to this 1951 Hudson Commodore. It's listed as having a 6-cylinder engine block with 262 head, automatic transmission, nice interior, and numerous new components. It needs a new headliner according to the ad, but the price likely reflects that. It's just $9,500!
You'll want to take a closer look at this 1972 Buick GS Custom Deluxe from a seller in Plymouth, Michigan. The seller says it runs and cruises great and has no rust. Features include two extra larger tires, just-installed door panels, and more. If you're interested, get a pre-purchase appraisal/inspection! The price? Just $14,000!
"This land yacht floats down the highway," says the seller of this 1975 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible from Middleton, Massachusetts. Interested in a good deal? This 1965 Plymouth Fury III from a seller in New Market, Tennessee might be worth your time. It features a 318ci V8 engine, automatic transmission, power steering, new paint, and good interior; all for just $2,950. That'll make it a DEAL of the DAY during the next week and something fun to drive without all the worry!
Need a cool cruiser for the summer? Check out the 1966 Dodge Dart GT Convertible from Classic Car Liquidators in Sherman, Texas. According to the dealership, the Factory GT convertible is powered by a 340 V8 with A904 TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Options include: power top, dual exhaust, and more! It even comes with its original sales brochure. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The price is $19,999.
A seller from Northport, Alabama just listed a 1973 Mustang Convertible with a price so good, we just had to make it one of our DEALS of the DAY. According to the seller, the iconic cruiser is in running condition and features a 351 Cleveland under the hood. There's no rust and the convertible top does work; however, the factory air is not working. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with a price of just $11,500.
