Cars-On-Line newsletter readers have met Rick Dore, Hall of Fame Custom Car Designer, in many of our car show stories and videos. Today, one of his finest cars is being offered for sale for the first time. His 1950 Mercury Lead Sled was just listed for sale by Classic Car Marketiing in Southern California.
This 1950 Merc Sled is a one of a kind by the master automotive stylist himself. They say it was Dore's personal car. With an overdrive transmission it can be driven anywhere. The stock running gear with suspension lowered just enough to look low and lean, also goes down the road like a dream. Yet, it is the perfect show car. "This car is very tastefully done," said Dore. " There are a lot of Mercurys out there that have been customized, but in my opinion, there are very few that have the look. What I mean by that is style, elegance and most of all attitude."
PPG's paint Wizard Paul Stohl mixed the Candy Burgundy paint to perfection, and So Cal legendary painter Benny Florez laid it on just right. Sherms plating in Sacramento did all of the sweet plating finishing off this package so all you need is the bow. All of the rubber and all of the glass have been replaced, the skirts have been flush mounted, the grill cavity reworked, and the bumpers have been radically changed. She has been nosed and decked and a '46 Lincoln functional push button door opener lets you in and out of the beast. The corners have been rounded and the gaps are near perfect. The original Flathead Ford engine was rebuilt several years ago with just over 500 miles on it. It has a three-on-a-tree column shifted 3-speed transmission with overdrive. Dore mentions that the electricals have been converted to a 12-volt system.
As you can see the interior has been completely gone through. It has also been soundproofed with Dynamat throughout. The carpet is looped burgundy, the headliner and door panels are a fawn color with burgundy inserts. All of the window cranks and inside door handles were replated. The interior was kept authentic to the original look but with upgraded seats and upholstery.
This was a quality built throughout. There are subtle scoops cut into the hood and molded back. The '56 Oldsmobile headlight rings have been cut back and peaked for a unique look.

One of the best club newsletters in the country is the Cadillac LaSalle Club Potomac Region pub edited by our friend Vince Talliano. They wanted us to make sure our readers knew about their 26th Annual Capitol Cadillac Spring Car Show, May 6, 2018. at Capitol Cadillac in Greenbelt, Maryand. The Potomac Region club's newsletter is one of the most informative pubs we ever read. It is a gem for all Cadillac collectors to follow. (Click here to visit their website.) They remind us that the big Cadillac LaSalle Club Grand National Meet will be held in San Marcos, Texas this year. The event will run June 5 through June 9, 2018, with the Embassy Suites by Hilton as the host hotel. About 1,300 club members and their families are expected to attend.

During our coverage of the 2018 Detroit Autorama a few weeks ago, we ran into collector extraordinaire George Poteet. Our photo-journalist Bob Boberg, of eClassicAutos.com, got a chance to interview George as he was displaying his famous Bonneville Salt Flats racer which he calls Speed Demon. He set the world land speed record for a piston driven car in Speed Demon in 2017. Click here to read the article we wrote about Poteet and his Speed Demon. There you can play the video of the actual interview which is now trending on You Tube. It is an interesting opportunity to get to know this modest self-made millionaire who wons the largest collection of '32 Fords in the world. He is also one heck 'ova race car driver. Old Guys Rule.
Newsletter readers will remember the sexy 1951 Chevy Lowrider from last week's newsletter. Today, Peter from Greenfield, Wisconsin notified us that he had already SOLD it to a Cars-On-Line buyer. "Just sold my '51 Chevy Lowrider," he wrote us in his SOLD notification. "Placed the ad six days ago and today it drove out. The new owner found it on this web site. I am going to find another hot rod right here. Great way to advertise." Now Peter knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell on Cars-On-Line." You'll be amazed at the vehicles SOLD thru Cars-On-Line this week. Follow this link to the SOLD section below. When you see how effective a Cars-On-Line.com ad can be, you may want to advertise your car with Cars-On-Line. Start at this link!
In the world of high dollar Mopars, here is a Winged Warrior which has been a 1-owner car all its life. This 1970 Plymouth Superbird is a highly desirable 440 6 Pack car currently offered for sale through North Shore Classics in Mundelein, Illinois. They say it has just 36,717 factory original miles on it. It is documented and is in Galen Govier's Chrysler Registry. The black vinyl roof is still all original and they say it still looks as new. The factory numbers matching 440 6 Pack is complemented by a factory numbers matching 747 Torqueflite automatic transmission with a console shifter. The paint was redone in its factory Lemon Twist color. According to the description written by North Shore Classics, it comes with two original broadcast sheets and its factory fender tag is still in place. They tell us, "The body and paint are very close to perfect condition and it should score 999 points out of 1000 easily ..." The original Pennsylvania car is truly something special. If you are a Mopar collector, this one could be a serious addition to your collection.

RM Sotheby's Fort Lauderdale Auction happens next weekend, April 6-7, 2018 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center. This show is celebrated as South Florida's Premier Collector Car Auction event. The selection of cars is impressive. Here are some of the standouts to watch for:
A 1969 Boss 429 Mustang started its life in an Arizona mining town where there was plenty of room to let this Semi Hemi loose. RM Sotheby's tell us the Boss 429 appears in excellent condition with shiny, uniform paint and the correct Magnum 500 wheels wrapped in period-style Goodyear tires. Inside, it is unmodified and wears correct black vinyl. The 4-speed manual transmission, included with the optional Deluxe Interior group, stands ready to row through the gears. Underhood, the Boss 429's engine bay looks as though the car just left the Kar Kraft facility.
The second owner of this rare 1954 Kaiser Darrin 161 Sport Roadster bought it in 1957 and it was kept in the family for 61 years. You can see why. The current correct color combination is stunning with a repaint. The color is Pine Tint Green with matching interior, dash wrap and top. It has a Willys Hurricane 161 Six Cylinder engine. Only 435 were ever produced by Kaiser making this one very rare indeed. They tell us that for the last 31 years this car has been in Florida sunshine, and for the past ten years it has been driven every two weeks. Replacements of major parts are mentioned in the promo copy.
Get behind the wheel of this 1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III and the luxurious leather interior combined with the beautiful burled wood dash is just stunning. Truly an intoxicating experience. This is definitely a rolling piece of artwork. RM Sotheby's estimates that it will sell for something in the neighborhood of $200,000 to $250,000. At some point in its lifetime it was converted to a drophead with the coachwork done by Peter Wilford in England. The drivetrain includes a 6,230-cc OHV V8 engine featuring two SU carburetors, transferring power to the rear wheels via an automatic 4-speed transmission.
Scheduled to cross the auction block on Saturday at the RM Sotheby's Fort Lauderdale Auction is a 2003 Delahaye USA Bugnaughty Boattail Speedster. The original Deco Rides build was inspired by some of the finest designers in the world. Chip Foose did the original renderings for Terry Cook of Deco Rides. Design elements were taken from the Auburn Boattail Speedster, the Type 57S Bugatti and the 1935 Figoni & Falaschi Type 135 Delahaye. The pontoon fender design was inspired by the Delahaye and French designers. RM Sotheby's estimates this car will sell for $225,000 to $275,000.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
The best deal on the internet this week? Without a doubt it is this 1941 Crosley Convertible just posted by a private seller in Beach Park, Illinois. This cute little classic microcar is a find at the asking price of $7,500. The owner does not give us much to go on so you should have a pre-purchase inspection done on this one before you buy. We assume it has been in storage because of the covering in the photo. The seller says it drives well, and comes with new paint, new top and new interior. If you are in the market for one of these classic microcars this one is priced affordably. This is a price leader if we've ever seen one. At this price we have it for our DEAL of the DAY this week.
One of the early finned cars, this Mopar was ahead of its time. It is a Desert Rose and Cream White 1956 Plymouth Belvedere Sedan offered for sale by a private party in Parkville, Missouri. They say it has just 28,000 miles on it from new. They note that it has been garaged its entire life and is in very good condition. Unfortunately they do not provide photos of the interior or under the hood. It does have the six cylinder engine. A pre-purchase inspection would really clear up a lot of things and provide enough information that you might be able to make a decision on this collector car purchase. Because it is advertised with low miles it makes it interesting. So it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday with an asking price of just $15,500.
Having spent its entire life in the dry Arizona climate it is no wonder this 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 Ranch Wagon is still super straight and rust free. The private Arizona seller does not give any estimation on the condition class so we suspect it is of driver quality. Only a pre-purchase inspection would be able to tell for sure. Upgrades that have been noted by the seller include a balanced 289 ci V8 engine with 4-barrel carb, Edlebrock intake, headers, RV cam, Top Loader 4-speed, Hurst Competition shifter, disc brakes, dual exhaust and a tach. Our newsletter readers all know that classic station wagons are trending in the market right now. They are hot. So this one is a really attractive find for the price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on the front page of our website on Monday. (If it lasts that long.) The asking price is $18,000.
If you just want to attract a lot of attention and have some fun this summer, what if this 1954 Chevy Bel Air Custom were to be your daily driver? That could be arranged! Although the private seller from Chesterfield Twp, Michigan did not spend a lot of words describing this Chevy gasser style custom, he does say that it comes with a big block Chevy 454 motor. We don't know if that scoop in the hood is functional at all but he does say it comes with a Holley carb and aluminum intake. He says there are disc brakes. Again, this is one you should have a pre-purchase inspection done before you consider sending money. But it does look like it could be a fun driver for a summer. It will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week ... so hurry! The price is only $15,000.
A 1949 Oldsmobile Club Coupe was restored some years ago, says the seller from Bridgewater, Virginia. It still looks good today. Nice look and stance with its whitewall tires. "Shiny paint, prize winning interior, perfect chrome!" He says it, "Runs, drives, shifts as it should. Updated with an excellent 350 Olds motor and transmission." He notes that he has the clean Virginia title in his name, no resale title jumping. From the photos, the interior seems to look okay and the trunk looks clean. Only way to verify that though is to have a pre-purchase inspection done by an independent third party. These late '40s two-door sedans have a lot of character. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. I think you will agree that this is a lotta' car for $19,500.
Talk about style and character, here is a very desirable 1937 Ford Tudor Sedan offered for sale by a private seller in Hampton, Virginia. The front valance on the '37 is something that street rodders treasure. And the "humpack" look of the sedan rear valance is classic. These design cues are significant in the street rodding hobby. Our seller says the Model 78 all-steel body and interior are in excellent condition. It comes with an all new Mustang front end with disc brakes and a Ford 302 V8 motor, 4-barrel carb, new dual exhaust, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning and a complete new rewire. It even has LED brake lights. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this week. The asking price is $29,000.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:

Here are some of the comments from happy sellers who were nice enough to tell us about their experience advertising on the Cars On Line website.
Peter notified us he already sold his 1951 Chevy Lowrider from last week's Cars-On-Line.com newsletter. "Just sold my '51 Chevy Lowrider," he wrote us in his SOLD notification. "Placed the ad six days ago and today it drove out. The new owner found it on this web site. I am going to find another hot rod right here. Great way to advertise."
"Your service is very good and I look forward to working with Cars-On-Line.com in the future. I also like looking through your ads to see what's for sale and how much." Michael from Frederick, Maryland SOLD his 1994 Corvette.
"This is the 4th vehicle I have SOLD through Cars-On-Line. You provide a great service at a reasonable price." Gary was happy to inform us that he SOLD his 1947 Chevy 1 1/2 Ton Truck.
"The buyer saw it on Carsonline but also saw it on an Ontario publication called Old Autos. The big difference was Carsonline had colour pictures, and with both ads together that made things happen. Once again, thanks for all your help." That's what Larry emailed in after selling his 1939 Ford Sedan using our Run Till Sold ad.
