Well, Gullwing Motor Cars has done it again. Just like their name implies, they do seem to acquire their share of million-dollar Mercedes-Benz classic Gullwings. Today they are offering a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing which has Silver Grey metallic paint and an unusual blue leather interior combination. It is the type of collectible car that you see at the Barrett-Jackson Auction or at an RM Sothey’s sale on a rare occasion. But Gullwing Motor Cars, out of Astoria, New York, seems to come up with these cars more frequently.
Gullwing tells us this 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing is an absolutely stunning matching numbers example wearing a high quality restoration. Offered in its incredibly attractive original color of silver grey metallic withblue leather interior it is quite unique. This one is said to be just off 40 years of ownership and accompanied by many service and restoration receipts from Foreign Auto Tech in Massachusetts. The majority of the work was carried out between 1991 and 1992, says Gullwing. A binder of photographs also documents much of the work performed. The jack and spare are included.
The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing is on the top ten list of collector cars in the world. The Mercedes-Benz 300SL is the first generation of the SL Mercedes sports cars. It is considered a Grand Touring (GT) class car. An early production number example in pristine condition sold for $1.3 million in 2017 at the RM Sotheby's Auction during the Amelia Island Concours. An SL Gullwing would be the crown jewel of any collection.

The most desirable classic Ferrari ever offered at auction, a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO by Scaglietti, will be on the docket for this year's RM Sotheby's Auction in Monterey, California, August 24-25, 2018, during the legendary Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance. Only 36 GTO's were ever built. All have been preserved. Widely considered the most beautiful Ferrari design, the 250 GTO model was one of the most successful road racing cars that Ferrari ever built, claiming firsts in nearly 300 races worldwide. The Ferrari offered by RM Sotheby's at their Monterey sale is chassis no. 3413 GT, the third of the 36 examples built. Click this link to see a video of this Ferrari 250 GTO plus more photos by Patrick Ernzen as a courtesy of RM Sotheby's. You can tell from the video how this car has been maintained and how it still performs as the race car it was born to be. It was actually raced by the Ferrari factory team. There is no estimated price listed, but the rumor mill has it that it could go as high as $43 million. The historic RM Sotheby's auction will be held at the Monterey Conference Center.

Woody's Hot Rodz announced this week that the 2018 Ridler Award Winner, a 1957 Chevy Custom, will make an appearance at the Danchuk Tri-Five Nationals in August. Cars-On-Line readers remember when our car show team covered the 2018 Detroit Autorama when a new Ridler Award winner was chosen for 2018. (Follow this link to review our coverage of the Ridler Award competition.) The Tri-Five Nationals will be held again this year, August 9-11, 2018, in Bowling Green, Kentucky. All 1955-1957 Chevrolets are invited to register. You can register for the Tri-Five Natioals here. It is three days of shows, displays and drag racing for all Tri-Five fans. This is one you should put on your bucket list for sure. Woody's Hot Rodz are the Tri-Five experts and parts outlet. They are the promoters for the Tri-Five Nationals.
General Motors Corporation announced today that Chevrolet would be bringing back the Blazer for 2019 as a crossover model SUV. The Blazer has not been available since 2004. It is a large crossover with 4,500-pound pulling capacity. The price has not been set in stone, but indications are that it will be priced between $24,000 and $30,000. It will be competing for the Ford Edge market. Chevrolet says it will be on sale in early 2019. It is believed that the Blazer will have a 193 hp 2.5-liter 4 cylinder motor, or the 305 hp 3.6-liter V6. It will probably utilize the Chevy 9-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel-drive versions will be available. The front grille looks a lot like the Chevy Camaro front facia. It will have a similar design to the GMC Acadia.
Going against the grain, GM says it will build the Blazer in Mexico for sale here in the U.S.

In 1997, Ray Evernham, Jeff Gordon's legendary NASCAR crew chief, asked Rex Stump, a former Corvette engineer with GM, to build a revolutionary design that would be super fast but stay within NASCAR's rules as a templated production car. The 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo was driven only one time by Jeff Gordon when he won the NASCAR All-Star event at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The car was so fast and sticky that it pretty much walked away from the competition that night. NASCAR asked Hendrick not to race it ever again. And they abided by NASCAR's decision. But the car is famous now among NASCAR teams. They call it T-Rex in honor of Rex Stump.
This famous car is now being offered for sale by Hendrick Motorsports, along with many other famous race cars from the Hendrick Collection. Jeff Gordon's Daytona 500 winner, Jimmie Johnson's Championship cars and even a Dale Junior Shootout winner are among the offerings from Hendrick Performance this week. Click here to see the inventory of special cars for sale at Hendrick Motorsports.
Few production cars were ever created just bragging rights, but in the year 1953 Buick Motors was on top of the world and wanted to show that their design capability was world class. So they created the 1953 Buick Skylark Convertible. It was offered only in a convertible, no hardtops were available for the first two years. Although the car cost more to produce than they could sell it for (it is estimated that they lost money on every Skylark they could produce), it did make a statement at the time. Today this 1953 Buick Skylark Convertible is a Top 10 collector car. This one was listed for sale this week by a private collector out of Florida. It was restored in the Netherlands (they have quality craftsmanship over there) and is now in Florida for sale. It has only 1,000 miles on it since the restoration, according to the seller. We suspect this one may be a trailer queen from the description. A discrete collector might make an inquiry on this one. The asking price is listed in the ad.
This fully documented 1986 Buick Grand National has less than 17,000 miles on it and is highlighted with FIVE video featurettes. Get a look at the like new interior, original wheels, perfect working motor, and even a factory tach with boost gauge. The seller is in Merrick, New York and says the car is well cared for, with no rust or oxidation of any kind. Check out each of the five videos below!

It's featured in a SLIDE SHOW ad and is said to provide big block power without compromising balance and handling performance. It's also the last solid lifter V8 produced by GM. The rarity makes it a Blue Chip investment grade car according to the seller. It's a garage find that just needs a new coat of paint.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
You haven't lived till you drive a 1976 Pontiac Trans Am with a 455 HO big block power plant. Streetside Classics in Charlotte, North Carolina has one for cheap this week. They just posted it for sale as a price leader to get your attention. The engine in this one comes from a '71 Trans Am. It is bored .030 over forged pistons, Comp Cams hydraulic roller cam, Edelbrock intake, and a four-barrel carburetor. Firethorn Red is the name of that paint. They say you can't take your eyes off of it. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the asking price is only $26,995.
It is likely that this 1958 Ford F100 Pickup is only a driver quality vehicle, with little or no show potential. But keeping in mind how rare this one is it is worth noting as a hobby vehcle to drive to shows. The private seller from Chino Valley, Arizona says it has a brand new custom-built 460 ci big block motor, brand new Art Carr transmission and John Currie 9-inch 378 Ford rear end. He also notes brand new power brakes, new chrome, new battery and some extras. He says it has dual gas tanks and an aluminum camper shell that goes with. One of the main features on these '58 F100s is the rear wrap-around window that was so popular back in the day. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday with an asking price of $8,500. Hurry on this one. It won't lask long at this price.
The Model A Ford was a simple car for simple times. The private collector who is offering this 1930 Ford Model A Cabriolet says it was owned by a collector who really took great care of the car. He said the engine had been overhauled not long before the former owner passed. He says it starts right up, goes smoothly through the gears and stops as it should. You will note that this is one of the highly desirable rumble seat roadsters. You rarely see one at this price point. Be sure to have it inspected before you buy, but don't wait too long to move on this one. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price of $16,500.
It is not too surprising that one of this week's top DEALs of the DAY is from Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles, California. They posted a 1965 Mustang Convertible at a really nice price point. Beverly Hills Car Club is an ambitious broker in the LA area pulling lots of popular collector cars out of the Hollywood and Beverly Hills area where so many cars have been forsaken to storage garages. This Mustang comes with an automatic transmission and an inline-6 engine, OEM radio, soft top, boot and solid wheels. They tell us it is an excellent driver quality car which they confirmed is mechanically worth your interest. Based on that we have it as a DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is just $16,750.
There are a lot of great classic pickup trucks in our Cars-On-Line.com new listings today. But here is a 1971 Chevrolet Cheyenne C10 Pickup that looks pretty nice in the photos. It is being offered for sale by a private collector in Canton, Ohio. If you think it might be as good as it looks you may want to have it inspected. The story on this one corroborates the way the photos look. It is said to have come from Phoenix, Arizona in 1992, then fully restored with new paint and chrome in 1995. They say it is fully restored and well mantained. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is $18,500.
A sharp looking 1967 Chevrolet Impala is being offered today by a private seller in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. The 2-Door Sport Coupe is one of the most popular Chevrolet products of all time. They say it has a recent GM 350 crate motor (with just 700 miles), 200R4 transmission rebuilt, replaced ball joints with alignment, power brake booster, brakes and wheel cylinders, steering gear, gas tank sending unit, and more. But the seller says it still has the original interior, trunk floor, rockers and quarter panels all in great shape. If you think the photos look good, this might be the one you want to have a pre-purchase inspection done on. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is only $17,000.
A Montana collector has this very desirable 1969 Ford Ranchero for sale. The photos are a little blurry so you may want to ask for better photos by email. Or, we recommend you have it inspected to get a better idea of the condition from a third party view. The seller says you need to see it in person. He suggests that it is in good condition inside and out. He says it has been well taken care of with just 49,000 miles which he represents as original. He notes that it has custom Maroon metallic paint with a black interior. It has a V8 motor and automatic transmission. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $10,000.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
