Chrysler's Dodge Division was on a roller coaster ride at the beginning of the 1960's; one year they were up and the next year they were down. The highs and the lows were equally precipitous. When Dodge rolled out the new Dart lineup for 1960 the Dart Phoenix was the top-of-the-line premium Dodge Dart model. Of all the cars Dodge sold that year 87 percent were the new Dodge Darts. The Dart had three trim levels, the Phoenix (premium), the Pioneer (medium) and the Seneca (base models.) The Division sold 367,804 cars, its highest numbers to date.
This week, Daniel Schmitt & Company out of St Louis, Missouri posted a rare 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix 4-Door Hardtop (shown right) for sale in the Cars-On-Line.com Classic Dodge Section online. It is finished in its factory correct color combination of Fawn Beige over an original brown and light grey interior (click to view the photos.) This classic Dodge comes from the first year of Dart production and has known history dating back to 1965 when it was acquired by a long term owner in Chicago. A meticulously maintained example, this Phoenix has traveled only 91,000 miles from new and is the recipient of a Driver Participation Award from the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA).
But Virgi Exner's "reverse fin" rear styling changes for the 1961 Dodge Dart models were not as popular. Sales dropped and Dodge was in a bit of a jam with production numbers sinking to 269,367 units. By 1962 the Phoenix, Pioneer and Seneca model lines were dropped.
The two-year production of the Pioneer 500 is all but forgotten in the annals of automotive historians. That makes them very rare today. This 1961 Dodge Dart Pioneer 500 is the first one we have ever had listed on the Cars-On-Line.com website. Most of our readers will have never seen one before. It has been posted by We Be Autos.com, a New York broker, listing it for a client from Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. It comes with a 440 ci V8 with Long Tube Cross Ram and two 4-barrel carburetors, perched on opposite sides of the engine bay. Feeding the well-built 440 are Source heads and a solid lifter cam. It also comes with a rare 4-speed, and has 4.10 gears to put all that horsepower to the pavement. They say the interior is all new and the chrome is perfect. Note the photos of the undercarriage in the ad. You can also click here to view a walk-around video.
These classic Dodge Darts from the early 1960's are rare artifacts of a forgotton era in Dodge history. They don't come much more rare than these. Find more in the New Listings below.

Newsletter readers probably remember when this 1967 Plymouth GTX was featured here in the Cars-On-Line.com newsletter recently. When he filled out the Sold Form the ex-owner from Summerville, South Carolina noted it was SOLD, just a week after advertising. He said the Mopar muscle car had been restored to showroom condition some years ago. In 2001, it won 1st Place at the Mopar Atlantic Nationals in Englishtown, New Jersey. Now he knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell on Cars-On-Line." Follow this link to the SOLD section below. When you see how effective a Cars-On-Line.com ad can be, you may want to advertise your car with Cars-On-Line. Click here to start now.

The Raleigh Classic Auction is coming up on June 22-23, 2018. It is one of those events that collectors from the Southeastern U.S. just simply can't miss. For some years now, Chris Lieth has sponsored this unique classic car auction drawing some really nice low-mile collector cars. It is the one all the classic car dealers attend. If you can't be there in person you can register now to place your phone bids. Here are some of the featured cars we look forward to seeing later this month:
There will be some very cool vintage classic cars and trucks for sale here at the Raleigh Classic in North Carolina, June 22-23, 2018. This 1938 Cadillac LaSalle Series 50 Roadster will be offered to the highest bidder. Carlisle Auctions has estimated its value at between $60,000 and $65,000. It is V8 powered and they say it runs well. It is described as a "superb restoration with twin side mounted spare tires and rumble seat."
This has got to be one of the top ten cars of all time. When Ford decided to build a convertible with a fold-a-way hardtop it was space age technology that they just had to show off. Here is the first year 1957 Ford Fairlane Skyliner known affectinately as the Retractable. The Raleigh Classic does not give an estimated value for this car. It comes very highly optioned. The color is Salmon over White.
It was in 1970 that Parnelli Jones drove a Boss 302 Mustang to the Trans Am Championship in SCCA racing. It would be the last year for the Boss 302 which makes this 1970 Boss 302 Mustang a very highly respected muscle car to collect. The description says it still has only 33,500 original miles. It has a very authentic Competition yellow repaint and comes with a very detailed engine bay.
The 1935 Desoto Airflow was a car designed by Chrysler engineer Carl Breer who understood airflow and wind resistance. He was the first to design an aerodynamic vehicle, way ahead of its time. This one features dual cowl fresh air intakes for passenger comfort, “suicide” design rear doors for ease of passenger entry and exit, fog lamps, rear mounted spare tire with locking metal cover, fender skirts and much more.

As recently as May 2018, this 1965 Oldsmobile 442 was making 100 mile trips (presumably) with no issues. It's a recent listing from a seller in Anniston, Alabama. It's a true 442 with a 400 engine 4bbl and Jetaway transmission made in Lansing, Michigan. The ad features a SLIDE SHOW gallery and the informational video above. You can click here to watch it. That 100 mile journey is a substantial part of the 350 miles added to the odometer since the restoration. Take a look!

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
Don't let the big block hood fool you, Good Times Classics from Well Line, Missouri tells us this 1970 Corvette Stingray is an all #s matching Vette with the rebuilt 350 V8 small block motor. You can contact them and get a further inspection of this classic Corvette muscle car. They add that the rear end has also been rebuilt along with a rebuilt automatic transmission, and the power steering, power disc bakes and air conditioning have all been redone. They say the former owner liked the big block hood but it is not original. They say it runs and drives very well. With all of that, it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is only $19,900.
It is always amazing to me that a few Durant cars still exist. The duration of the Durant Motor Car Company was so short lived. Yet here is a 1929 Durant Coupe, another rare offering from Good Times Classics in Well Line, Missouri. They tell us it has its original 4-cylinder engine and 3-speed manual transmission. It is mostly original although the gas tank has been changed to inside the trunk, and it has an electric fuel pump. They say it starts and runs well, and that the only rust was in the trunk which was already repaired. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday because the asking price is just $10,000.
Early Dodge pickups are so rare that many collectors have never seen one. This is a 1939 Dodge Pickup in what looks like origiinal type condition. Only an inspection will tell for sure, but the presentation on the Classic Car Deals page makes it look pretty origina. It is a sharp lookiing truck with a nice wood bed and wood siderails. The seller says it is in "very good condition. Power steering and brakes." It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price of $16,495.
1956 was a seminole year for Chrysler. Chrysler designer Virgil Exner developed his "Forward Look" for a new era of automotive production and design. And the 1956 Plymouth Belvedere was once again the top-of-the-line model with a new look. This 2-Door Hardtop Sport Coupe is being offered for sale this week by Midwest Car Exchange in Alsip, Illinois. It's features include: 318 ci V8 engine, automatict transmission with a floor shift, power steering, power brakes and rear fender skirts. Isn't it amazing to find one in this price range? It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is just $15,900.
Did you know you can now buy a real retro late model Shelby for under $30k? Here is a 2008 Shelby GT500 in very nice shape that is being priced like it was just another used car. How long will it be before it is considered a collector car? Not long at all, we say. The private seller from San Antonio, Texas tells us it has just 47K miles. According to his description it has been garaged kept, equipped with Shelby Super Snake wheels, tuned by Ford with Catback exhaust. He says it has new slotted/cross drilled brakes and rotors, and has been upgraded with Billet Specialty dual clutch from Shelby American. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week, asking just $28,500. You have to conclude that this is a lotta' car for the money.
Here is a great looking old school style 1923 Ford T-Bucket Roadster offered for sale by a private collector from Kenosha, Wisconsin. The seller says it is immaculate, and looks great in the photos. A fiberglass kit car built in the 70's, it has a 327 Chevy engine Weiland high-rise dual quad intake manifold and a Weiland tunnel ram with a Holley double pump carburetor. It has some great high performance equipment as well, including a high performance Crane cam shaft with an 11.54 compression, Edelbrock valve covers and headers and automatic transmission with a 2-speed Power-Glide. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is only $14,000.
Rounding out our top deals for this week is a very interesting custom 1940 Chevy special Deluxe Pickup which was obviously designed to be a show truck. The private seller from Grand Rapids, Minnesota says the the frame, 3.8L V6 motor and automatic transmission are from a 1972 Buick with less than 42K miles on it. He says the black and red interior is nicely detailed and options include power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, after-market gauges and stereo. It has new tires, brakes and lines. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $15,000.
