Faster and quicker than a Lamborghini, Ferrari came out with its 365 GTB/4 exotic super car in 1968. Even before it was introduced for street use the media had dubbed it the "Daytona." In 1967, Enzo Ferrari was so peaved at losing major Grand Prix races and the 24 Hours of Daytona to Ford the year before that he came back to Daytona, Florida with his new P Series Ferrari prototypes. These new 365 GTB/4 V-12 prototypes were slender like a bullet with front engine V-12's. They came in 1-2-3 at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1967 leaving no doubt about Ferrari's dominance. After that race the 365 GTB/4 would forever be refered to as the Ferrari Daytona.
This week, a legendary Fly Yellow 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona was listed by The Last Detail in North Chicago, Illinois. They tell us it comes from one of the finest collections of Chicago’s North Shore area. With a beautiful black leather interior (be sure to view all the photos here), this car is in “impeccable condition both cosmetically and mechanically.” They note that it features excellent panel gaps, gleaming britework and a laser straight body. The chassis is just as nice, and shows attention to detail.
They tell us it is all numbers matching which means the Columbo V-12 engine would be original. And what an incredible engine this is. It is a 60-degree 4.4-Liter with double overhead cams on each bank. It has six 2-barrel Weber carburetors with dual distributors. The Last Detail tells us it has been upgraded with P6 grind cams, and European headers. The rear gearing has been updated to a 3.90. In this configuration the car produces approximately 400 horsepower and has awesome acceleration. To help get power to the ground a pair of matching 9-inch rims were added to the rear with all new Michelin XWX tires. You can imagine the performance it provides. This Daytona would have had a top speed of about 174 miles per hour. It would do a quarter-mile in 13,8 seconds.
It should be noted that the Ferrari Daytona was the last car designed before Enzo Ferrari sold his company to Fiat. Almost 80 percent of the Daytonas produced in the early years were exported to the U.S.

Did you know that actual prices paid on 1970 Chevelle LS6 454 big block Super Sports are up by over 34 percent from their lows of last year? It is one of the interesting facts that turned up in the Cars-On-Line.com Collector Car Market Trends Report just published today. As promised, click here to view the fresh Market Trends Report with updated information on actual average sales prices during the first half of 2018. You'll find that prices on classic Lincolns are up 23 percent this year, and classic Cadillacs have been selling at prices 22.5 percent higher than last year. The overall collector car market is up about 6.5 percent overall, the best showing since the 2008 recession. Only classic Fords are down a little this year, although Shelby Mustangs are trending up again. In the report, you can view a chart of our test group of popular makes and models and compare prices between 2017 and 2018. It's nice to get some good news on collector car values for a change.

We so appreciate when our advertisers tell us about their sales experience with Cars-On-Line.com. Dave from Riverside Motorsports in Janesville, Wisconsin just wrote us this note. "Please mark my 2004 Corvette 50th Anniversary Convertible with a SOLD! Sold this car thanks to Cars-On-Line!" When our readers see a car this nice with only 4k miles, the sale is almost guaranteed. Dave knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell on Cars-On-Line." Follow this link to the SOLD section below. Talk about a classic muscle car with provenance! This 1970 Boss 429 Mustang spent most of its early years racing at drag strips in Mighigan. At one point it was tuned by Jack Roush himself. Then it disappeared for a while until it was discovered in a barn and in 2016 it was brought back to its current concours condition by Mustang restorer Kevin Manley. Today it is being offered for sale by The Last Detail in North Chicago, Illinois. They tell us this Boss 9 scored 994 points out of 1,000 by the Mustang Club of America. Presented in its original livery of Grabber Blue with a white interior, this car is done to concours standards inside and out. Follow this link to view dozens of detailed photos. Note the show interior and under carriage. This King of the Hill muscle car could be the centerpiece of any high quality collection.
A 1967 Corvette L71 427/435 Coupe was just listed by a private collector in Abilene, Texas. He bought the car as the second owner when it had just 1,624 miles on it and it still has just 41k original miles. What we were impressed with is how the Texas collector decided to advertise his car for sale. In the ad you'll find several important links. Click to see the original window sticker, a breakdown of the numbers and VIN, and a three-page brochure with tons of information about the car. Then the cherry on top is the video walk-around inspection he included in the ad where he goes over every part of the car and lets you hear it run. Our hat is off to Jim for listing the most interesting ad we've seen this week.
This week, Daniel Schmitt & Company out of St Louis, Missouri posted a true vintage motorcar with provenance that just screams for attention. This incredible 1935 Chrysler C2 Airflow Imperial 8 was recently obtained from the Carroll Shelby Collection. It is one of the few non-Shelby vehicles he ever owned, showing how much he respected this car. Even more impressive, Shelby purchased the Airflow from the personal collection of his friend, Hollywood icon Steve McQueen. Daniel Schmitt & Company tells us this is one of the finest examples of an original Chrysler Airflow in existence. Finished in stunning Envoy Red, the classic motorcar is one of only 2,398 Airflows produced. It is considered an innovative design which was way ahead of its time in automotive history. It deserves to be held in a fine collection or museum.
Among the latest offerings from Hanksters Hot Rods is a 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A that is worthy of some extra attention. You can see in the video above. Alternatively, click here to view! It features a 340 V8 engine with 3.2 barrel Holley carburetor, a 4-spd manual transmission, Goodyear Polyglas GT white letter tires, and an attractive color combination: Green Metallic with green dash and green carpeting. Additionally, there's a Hurst Pistol Grip shifter and stock ignition.

Much of the work was recently done on this original car and it needs very little according to the ad. It has a 302 2V engine, 3-spd automatic transmission, a black vinyl bench seat interior, and was professionally repainted in Sea Foam Green. It's just $15,650 and comes with an original dealer invoice as well.

Classic Cars of Sarasota tells us "no expense was spared" when they built this 1969 Yenko Camaro recreation. They say it was a hig dollar, nut and bolt restoration and includes the period correct 427/425 hp engine. The incredible build includes power steering, and new "ice cold air conditioning." Unlike many such high quality restorations, this one comes at a comparably affordable price.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
Did you read our COL Collector Car Market Trends Report this week? (If not you can see it posted here.) You'll find that Pontiac GTO prices are up about 15 percent on average this year over last year's average prices. That presents an opportunity here with this 1967 Pontiac GTO being offered for sale by Showdown Auto in Clinton Township, Michigan. (We should point out that the prices in our Market Trends Report are based on No. 2 condition class cars.) This car is not all original, but has a 400 ci motor with a Tripower added. It has a Hurst dual gate automatic transmission. Most important, the Tiger Gold color is very desirable. Here is a video walk-around link to get a better idea of the condition and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this Saturday with an asking price of $24,900 (a deep discount to the average market price.)
A stunning 1978 Pontiac Trans Am was listed for sale by a private collector from Sacramento, California. With Trans Ams trending up in value it is a very interesting to find one in this condition at such an affordable price point. It comes with a 403 ci engine and a console shifted automatic transmission, power steering, power disc brakes, and air conditioning that blows cold air. The seller seems to indicate that the TA is in the kind of condition that wins at local car shows. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday because the asking price is only $16,500. Be sure to have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. At this price it won't last long.
A private collector from Tonawanda, New York offers his 1967 Plymouth GTX muscle car for sale. Highly desirable, He says is a real RS23L7 code car with original fendertag, no build sheet and comes equpped with a mid-70's rebuilt 440 with 10 to 1 compression, mild cam and electronic ignition. Some upgrades include high rise aluminum manifold with 750 Edelbrock, 4-speed fully syncronized transmission coupled to 8 3/4 rearend with 742 case. For the most part the seller says this GTX is pretty original and comes uncut and solid. This is a sweet performance muscle car at a very affordable price. Be sure to have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price of $24,000. We think you'll agree that it is a lotta' car for the money.
A hot rodder from Shelby, North Carolina is selling a 1932 Plymouth PB Hemi Hot Rod which he says is nearly complete. The buyer will have to finish a few things. "Act now to get your hands on this amazing project car," he says. "All of the hard work is already complete." He says it is basically a very well maintained "all steel" body from an early '90's full restoration that includes the normal upgrades from the era: power seat, tilt wheel, automatic transmission, power windows, shaved handles, remote door poppers, and tweed upholstery everywhere. Then some modern upgrades make this car stand out, such as 4 link suspension, 4-wheel power disc brakes, MII front suspension, cold A/C, and, icing the cake, a 5.7L Hemi engine. It is a no brainer to be our DEAL of the DAY for early next week. The asking price is just $28,000.
And then there is this 1971 Plymouth Duster being offered for sale by an Ohio hot rodder at truly great price. He says this one is turn key ready to race. He says it is a factory 340 car, now converted with an HP 440 motor, new 727 transmission, new 8 3/4 posi rear end, mini tubbed and new 3500 TCI converter. The motor has 906 heads, Comp Cams .525, forged pistons, aluminum intake, Line Lock, Turbo Action shifter, Electric water pump, New 3-core aluminum radiator, new MSD 6Al box and distributor, Big tube headers, fuel cell in trunk and has return style fuel pump with regulator and filter. This is a very desirable find if you have the yen to run some fast times at the track. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is just $15,900.
4-Wheel Classics in Holland, Michigan offers a 1969 Mustang Resto Mod Notchback with a hot 347 ci performance engine. They say it is a very solid Mustang that appears to have all of its original metal with an undercarriage that is very very clean and solid. The engine was built by a high performance shop in North Carolina. It is a fully balanced rotating assembly engine with around 10 to 1 Compression, aluminum heads, roller rockers, RPM Air Gap intake, Holley HP carb, MSD ignition system, polished high flow pump, headers, and dual exhaust. You will want to watch this walk-around video to hear it run. Nice lopey cam. They say it runs and drives perfectly. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is only $19,900.
This is a 1965 Ford Falcon Ranchero which is probably in daily driver quality because the Michigan seller says, "This is a car that you can drive as you fix up here and there." For the right buyer this could be a great way to get into collecting. The Ranchero is powered by a smooth running C Code 289 engine mated to a a 4-speed transmission. This is a great daily driver. It runs and drives out well, according to Classic Car Deals, the broker for this sale. They say it has been freshly tuned up. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $14,900.
