It was the closest contest in Cars-On-Line's history, but our readers have picked a winner in the COL CAR of the YEAR poll for 2018. Our readers selected the rare Starlight black 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Ram Air IV muscle car as this year's CAR of the YEAR. Thirteen percent of our readers voted for the Ram Air IV GTO, one of only 325 Ram Air IV Judges with manual transmission in 1970.
Restore A Muscle Car out of Lincoln, Nebraska did the restoration on this highly-sought-after classic muscle car. It was featured in the September issue of the Cars-On-Line newsletter. With only test and tune miles on the beautiful GTO since its restoration they say it now runs and drives as a new vehicle. The original numbers matching RA IV 400 ci engine was also rebuilt at RAMC.
As we said the voting was incredibly close. The Ram Air IV GTO finished only two votes ahead another ultra rare muscle car, the 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird from Legendary Motorcar Company. Coming in third place was the 1933 Chrylser Imperial CL Dual Cowl Phaeton, a truly rare and beautiful vintage classic, also from Legendary Motorcar Company.
The voting ended Saturday at midnight. Our Cars-On-Line newsletter readers picked the winners in our annual CAR of the YEAR poll.

You are looking at a 1928 Packard Custom Eight Model 443 Phaeton currently being offered for sale at Classic Promenade in Phoenix, Arizona. You see it here finished in stunning two-tone periwinkle and sky blue, with accents of red and tan and a beautiful tan leather interior. The 443 completed a documented restoration in 1970, and was sympathetically updated in 2017 and 2018. They say it displays a consistent patina that presents wonderfully. This Packard participated in the 2017 CCCA Arizona CARavan, successfully covering about 1,200 miles over two weekends. The Packard 443 is considered by most experts as being one of the important high performing classics, compared favorably with Duesenburg, Marmon and Rolls Royce. Classic Promenade tells us they would comfortably drive it anywhere. It is an investment grade offering of historic significance.
One of the last Gullwings produced, this 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing has been seen by hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum where it was housed in the Special Interest Gallery. The paint has been redone over the years, but the interior is actually the original leather surface-dyed black. It is currently being offered for sale by Gullwing Motor Cars in Astoria, New York. They tell us that all of the 36,375 actual miles recorded at the time of cataloging were added prior to 1968. It was formerly owned by a famous West Coast sportsman named Arthur L.W. True. There are very few original Mercedes-Benz Gullwings survivors in this type of condition. It is truly an investor quality acquisition.
Look out! Here comes a 1995 International 4700 Crew Cab Custom Semi the like of which you have never seen before. Chicago Car Club is introducing it to the collector car market this week in a spectacular video ad. The low-mile Navistar DT466E Inline 6 was featured in 8-Lug magazine and Truck Trend. It features a shortened frame, air suspension, chopped roofline, shaved doors and leather bucket seats. Chicago Car Club is selling this incredible custom truck on behalf of the Klairmont Kollection, a well-established collection and museum on the north side of Chicago. The build was completed in 2013 by Drake's Auto Repair of Au Sable Forks, New York. Feature articles written on the truck may be found online on the Truck Trend Network, from back when the truck was painted orange and known as “Eye Candy”. Click here to view the video.

In the middle of the 5th Generation of Mustang production, Shelby reiterations proliferated. But they came in limiited supply. This 2008 Shelby GT Convertible is one of only 795 GT convertibles produced. You know it was born to be collectible with those kind of low production numbers. Now it is a phenom for another reason. Shelton Classics in Mooresville, North Carolina tells us it has just 355 actual miles.

If you have been following collector car auctions in recent years you know what an exciting find this is! Gullwing Motor Cars in Astoria, New York has uncovered a 1966 Ferrari 330GT 2+2 Series II which they say it numbers matching. It was imported from Belgium to the San Francisco area sometime in the 1970's. They believe it has been sitting in storage for many years awaiting restoration.

There is no other muscle car that has ever looked as good as this 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible triute. The Hemi Cuda styling for 1971 is near perfection. RK Motors Charlotte has this one for sale. They say its highly accurate build benefits from a detailed, ground-up restoration. Note the Pistol Grip shifter and shaker hood. Be sure to watch the engaging video to see it move and hear it run.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
A private seller in Pueblo West, Colorado needs money to build his new garage. Thus his 2000 Dodge Viper GTS must go. This is a sweet deal from many angles. First off, it takes a great picture. What a great looking exotic super car with the gray metallic paint and white racing stripes. Then, look at the miles. The seller says it has just 22,640 miles showing on the odometer. The tires have less than 1,500 miles on them. He says it runs and drives great. A word of caution. It must have had some damage because the seller says it had a rebuilder title at the time of purchase five years ago. But on Saturday it will be our DEAL of the DAY because the asking price is just $28,000.
Here is a wonderful opportunity to own a vintage 1928 Oldsmobile F28 Sedan which is described by its owner as being "phenomenal." Classical Gas Motors, a Texas dealership, says this classic Oldsmobile has been restored to "like-new condition." The F series Oldsmobiles were longer and larger with the more powerful six cylinder engine. That is what set it apart from earlier Oldsmobile designs. It was a significant change and made people think differently about Oldsmobile. The five-passenger sedan has been converted to electronic fuel pump. They say this one is exceptionally well restored and even sports the original wood wheels. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday because the asking price is only $19,900.
A 1951 Ford 2-Door Custom Deluxe is being offered for sale by a collector from Oregon. It has some custom modifications which make it a little easier to drive and increase its performance. But it looks original. It has a Flathead V8 with two 2-barrel carburetors and an updated T10 4-speed transmission with the floor shifter. The rear end is a Ford 8-inch and it has been updated with power brakes, dual exhaust and newer upholstery and sound system. You will notice the new paint in the photos. The seller says you can drive it anywhere. This one is a nice looking collector car which is priced to sell. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday because the asking price in only $15,000.
Here is a 1988 Jeep Wrangler Laredo 4X4 ready for the beach. These off-road type Jeeps are hot in the South and Southwest. Humpty Dumpty Classics in Sarasota, Florida tells us it has the YJ series soft top, a 4.2 Liter L6 engine with only 10 miles and a new automatic transmission with part-time 4X4 Command Trac. It has that Shift-On-The-Fly technology with a 3-speed automatic linked to a two-speed transfer case. Its the hot setup for offroad. The TCI shifter, sport seats and Bimini top is set up for fun in the sun. It also has the removable full doors, fender flares and hood pins. This one comes with new shocks, brakes and tires with Sport wheels. It will be our DEAL of the DAY in the New Year since the price is only $15,500.
Beverly Hills Car Club is a classic car dealer in Los Angeles that has an interesting clientele. Those storage garages in and around Beverly HIlls are full of collector car treasures, many long forgotten. Recently they found this 1951 Bentley Mark VI. They describe it as being elegant and remains a right hand drive marque of some distinction. It has a pearl white paint finish and tan interior. You will find that it has a manual transmission, rear picnic trays and wood trim as you would expect. It even has a sunroof. They describe it as being a "presentable Bentley which is mechanically sound." It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week as they are asking just $19,950.
Another vehicle from Los Angeles has been listed by a private seller. A nice looking 3/4-Ton 1970 Ford F-250 Ranger Pickup is being offered for sale here. The seller is using a broker website called Tradenet Classics to advertise this one. Note the condition of the body. It has dual exhaust, an 8-foot bed and a trailer hitch with air hookup. It would be a good one to have inspected. The seller says there is evidence of some cosmetic surface rust. But he says it comes with a clean title and a great price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is only $11,900.
Streetside Classics has this 1976 Triumph TR6 in their Tampa, Florida showroom this week. The TR6 was one of those British two-seater roadsters that was readily available here in the United States. Although it was a beautiful little sports car it was also a performance car with a powerful inline 6 cylinder motor and fully independent suspension. Note the front chin spoiler, cat's eye headlight dovers and quad exhaust tips. They really add to the sports car appeal. The walnut dash is a nice finishing touch. The engine compartment has a fresh look with its highly desirable 2.5 Liter Six backed by dual Stromberg carburetors. And this one is affordable. This European droptop is priced at $14,995.
