In the space age world of the 1950's there seemed to be no limit to man's imagination. Nowhere was that more evident than in Detroit where automotive innovation was on a par with the world of avionics. Ford designers worked hard in secrecy for the first half of the decade to unvail their Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner Retractable in 1957. Was it ever a success. For the first time in many years, Ford Motor Company outsold Chevrolet. So many people were coming to the Ford Dealers for a look at the new Retractable Skyliner that Ford's innovation won over the American new car buyer.
This week, a 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner Retractable has been listed for sale by a private seller from Missouri. (Follow this link to read his ad and see more photos.) After being restored in 2014, this car received “Best in Show” honors at the international Ford Retractable Club judging, scoring 1,011 points and being entered into the IFRC Show Case. The factory options on this car put it into an exclusive category. They include power seat, power steering, power windows, power brakes, air conditioning, Town & Country radio, day/night mirror, padded dash, spot lights, bumper guards, Continental kit, exhaust deflectors, flying eclipse, Sun Ray hub caps and the rare reproduction luggage. It is arguably the most highly optioned 1959 Ford Retractable in existence.
Being a 1959 Fairlane 500 produced in the first half of the production year, it came with the 332 c.i. motor and automatic transmission. When it was restored both were rebuilt and every nut, bolt and piece of weather stripping was replaced. During the frame off restoration all the chrome was redone and stainless trim was buffed.
Since the 1959 Skyliner Retractables were the final year retractables made by Ford, and since 1959 was the lowest year of retractable production, they are valued highly by collectors. Although the design of the two-piece retractable hardtop was painstakingly complex, the retractable tops were surprisingly reliable.
Be sure to read our MyDreamCar.online blog post about the Ford Retractables this week. You'll find out about the production numbers for all three years, 1957 through 1959. You may want to contribute your own stories of your experiences with the Ford Convertible Hardtops in the Comments section below the article.

We like to keep it pretty simple here at the Cars-On-Line office. When we greet you, we say, "Merry Christmas," not a watered down "Happy Holidays." It's the Christmas birth that the world celebrates. Why make it more complicated than that? Doesn't it make you smile sometimes that a poor baby boy could be born in the humblest of conditions, and yet history tells us that kings came to give him gifts? The tradition of giving presents at Christmas comes from those humble beginnings. If truth is in the eye of the beholder, then we have all witnessed the magic of Christmas. It is a gift of second chances wrapped in hope.
We, here at the Cars On Line office, hope that time will stand still for you on this blessed day ... that you will take pause to consider what you have been given in your life ... and that you will have a chance to be with the people who helped you along your way.
So our wish for you this week is that you will feel that glow of cheer, renew friendships, fill yourself up with what is worthwhile in life ... laugh, sing and enjoy the company of family and friends. May you all have a Merry Christmas ... and God bless you ... every one.

Bayou Classics & Customs in Parks, Louisiana has a real nice little collection of very rare first generation 1957 E Code Thunderbirds. Three of them to be exact. This one, a 1957 Thunderbird E-Bird in Goldenrod yellow, has had a professional frame-off restoration, according to the ad description. It comes with air conditioning and rare factory power windows and seats. It has the porthole hardtop, factory soft top and a tonneau cover. Also see a red 1957 E Code Thunderbird and a Colonial white 1957 E Code. Only 663 E Code Thunderbirds were ever produced. The E Code Thunderbird has two four-barrel carburetors and the identifying double hump air cleaner under the hood. These rare E-Birds are very desirable finds in the collector car market. We've never seen three in one place before.
Cars-On-Line readers will be thrilled to view the inventory of a new dealer this week. Classic Promenade, a classic car dealer from Phoenix, Arizona, has joined the Cars-On-Line.com Dealer Network this week. They have some interesting finds such as this rare and exclusive 1953 Packard Formal Limousine coachbuilt by Derham. It is one of less than 25 ever produced for Packard. It is from the Robert McAtee collection of Packards. It comes with a 1955 IBM Dictaphone machine, and an incredibly rare and valuable set of two unused 14-carat-gold presentation keys given to the original owner. It is an excellent example of the eclectic inventory you will find at Classic Promenade. Be sure to contact them to see their collection when you go to the Barrett-Jackson Auction in January. Here is a sample of some of the cars you will find there this weekend: click to view current inventory at Classic Promenade.
Greg from Vanguard Motor Sales walks you through a tour of the 1965 Factory Five Cobra they just got in at the dealership. First he shows all the features and finish on this black beauty. Then he wraps those pipes up and lets you hear how it goes down the road. Lastly, he takes you underneath to see the pristine build and undercarriage. Check out what it looks like under the engine, the clean bellhousing and the open rear end.

The Last Detail, a classic car dealer in N. Chicago, Illinois just posted a sweet 1969 Lincoln Mark III classic luxury car with only 26k miles on the odometer. They say it is an original "survivor", a term in the collector car hobby which implies that the car is untouched and original. The Last Detail tells us it is 100 percent original in its Light Green paint. Look at the photos at the link. Can you believe the condition of the interior?

When a Wisconsin collector listed his 1969 Big Block Corvette Roadster for sale here on the Cars-On-Line website he first had it listed for $145,975. It has the highly desirable factory 427/435 L89 aluminum head engine. The car has everything a Corvette collector could want, including the M21 close ratio 4-speed, auxiliary hardtop, tri-carb with aluminum heads, F-41 suspension and positraction. Somebody knew what he was doing when he ordered this one. As outstanding a find as this car is, the seller is now finding out that the collector car market is a little soft this year, and the stock market is tanking again. So, this week he reduced the price to just $119,000. What a find! This is the one!

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY section on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
What an opportunity! A private seller from West Chester, Pennsylvania is selling his 1964 Mercury Marauder Fastback for a very affordable price. Our readers will remember that the Mercury Marauder is one of those American muscle cars that very quietyly remains in the Top 20 Most Popular Muscle Cars according to our reader polls. With the exception of a few engine upgrades, this original Mercury Marauder just turned 70,000 miles. The 390 engine has Edelbrock aluminum heads with rare Ford cast iron headers, Holley 500 cfm 2-barrel carb, electronic ignition, automatic transmission, power steering and brakes. The seller says the original Platinum Beige paint is in good condition with normal wear. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the asking price is only $18,000. Hurry on this one.
Classic Car Liquidators in Sherman, Texas is becoming well known as the "classic car discounter" in the soutwest. They offer some fantastic deals and are often featured here in the DEAL of the DAY. This week they are offering a 1947 Willys Jeep CJ2A for sale. This 2.8 Liter Chevy V6 jeep looks to have been restored as a bit of a restomod. It comes with both full and half doors (removable), tach, power steering, front disc brakes and, of course, four-wheel-drive. It comes with a center console, tilt steering, a removable top, Rancho shocks, receiver hitch, extendable tow bar, custom Jerry Can mount and an aftermarket front bumper with 12k Smittybilt winch. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday because their asking price is only $11,999.
Ready for some real muscle car fun? Here is a 1974 Chevy Nova restored with attention to detail and with performance in mind. The private seller from Binghamton, New York tells us the body has solid rear quarters with no rust or repairs, new front fenders, doors are solid with no repairs or filler. He says the paint is GM Dark Blue with a fine metallic base coat / clear coat creating what he terms as a "mirror finish." But the meat of this deal is in the motor, a 350 stroked and bored 383 ci produing 405 hp with a 4-bolt main. You'll note the shift kit and torque converter. The seller describes it as "turn key excitement." We think you'll agree. Have it inspected first, of course. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price of $18,500. Where can you buy this much car for the price?
Cruisin Classics in Columbus, Ohio has a sweet looking 1984 Hurst Oldsmobile for sale this week. You might say it looks perfect in the photos but they say it is a driver quality car that is priced accordingly. They do admit it will impress your friends. It looks gret with the Cooper Cobra tires. Look for the photos of the Lightning Rod shifters. They are the real highlight of this car. They say the engine runs extremely well. And they note that the car seems to have been well maintained inside and out. (Follow this link to view a walk-around video and hear it run.) The Maple Red interior is also in great condition with minor signs of wear. It has power steering, power brakes, tilt wheel and power windows. It will be our DEAL of the DAY with an asking price of $14,995.
We should prepare you. If you don't already have your phone in your hand you may miss out on this fresh listing at Coyote Classics in Greene, Iowa. This good looking 1979 Pontiac Trans Am is decribed as a daily driver quality muscle car powered by what is believed to be the original 403 4-barrel V8. It comes with working factory air conditioning, power windows, power locks, cruise control, tilt wheel, power disc brakes, tach, gauges, power steering and dual exhaust. Note the PMD Rally rims. They say it goes own the road straight. An older restoration, it may have an original interior (see photos.) Click here to view a walk-around video tour. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. The asking price is $13,500.
Orlando Classic Cars in Orlando, Florida is advertising that they will run thi 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 through the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee this January. Good luck! I bet it doesn't last the weekend at this price. First generation Firebirds are a hot item in this collector car market. To find a 400 with a 4-speed is pretty hard to do. Not that many 4-speeds were produced. This one comes with the hood tach, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes and Rally wheels with Redline radial tires. Here is the reason we don't think it will be available in January. Their asking price is only $26,500. Maybe you can talk them out of taking it to the auction.
This may be the "sleeper" deal of the week. A 1930 Ford Model A Tudor was just listed by a private seller in Bedford, New York. What an unusual custom we have here. It is essentially a chopped tudor with a stretched frame and a whole extra "Vicky" type rear valance, almost making it look like a sedan delivery. It is a very original one-off style of hot rod. The performace comes from a 355 Chevy small block with a tunnel ram and automatic transmission. The front end is a Mustang II. It is bagged and the rear has been chopped 12 inches. It has not been channeled. It has hot rod wheels and Fatman steering column. Right now it looks to be driver quality but could be taken to the next level. The asking price is $20,000.

Ron from Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania said, "Cars On Line generated better response to ad than other sites. No fraudulent response. (I have had this with other sites). Buyer was a great guy and very enthusiastic about the 1930 Plymouth 30U Sedan."
"Service as always just great." That's what Roger said after selling his 1949 Chevy Business Coupe using the popular Run Till Sold ad.
