We are often asked what the premium is on a collector car that was celebrity owned. Our answer is usually, "That depends on the celebrity." This week, Daniel Schmitt & Company posted a 1950 Hudson Custom Commodore Six Brougham Convertible which was owned by deceased Hollywood actor Steve McQueen. He is, in relative terms, a legend among car collectors worldwide.
The 1950 Hudson Custom Commodore Six Brougham Convertible featured here is finished in the lovely two-tone color combination of White over Aztec Brown with a partially original red interior and a beige power convertible top. It is one of only 700 ever built new in 1950.
Why do you think that McQueen, who was considered the "King of Cool" in Hollywood circles, was so taken by this particular Hudson? He must have had a little bit of Southern California hot rodder in him because after acquiriing the Commodore Six he upgraded the inline 6 cylinder Hudson motor with the famous Hudson Twin H-Power carbs. McQueen owned three other Hudsons so he was no stranger to the brand. He was frequently seen driving his Hudsons around in Southern California. He enjoyed this one until his passing in 1980.
Today, it still has the charm of a driver quality collector car which is what drew McQueen to it in the first place. Daniel Schmitt & Company tells us it has undergone a recent mechanical service to ensure it can be enjoyed by its future owner.
In 2011, RM Sotheby’s sold McQueen’s 1970 Porsche 911S for nearly $1.4 million while, in 2015, Mecum Auctions sold his 1976 Porsche 930 for nearly $2 million! Documented McQueen ownership has proven to yield excellent investment return. Steve McQueen's is one of those celebrity names that really adds value to the collector cars he has owned.
You can read more about the interesting history of this 1950 Hudson Custom Commodore Six Brougham Convertible in a blog on the MyDreamCar.online webiste. If you have your own experiences with classic Hudson motorcars or with actor Steve McQueen be sure to post them in the Comments section at the bottom of the blog page. We love to hear stories from our readers. To view more collector cars owned by famous persons check out our Celebrity Car Section online.

Some of our readers may remember the Ed Roth display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. The star of that exhibit was the recreation of the Mysterion, one of the other worldly mechanical marvels, i.e. rolling art forms, which came from the mind and talents of master artist Ed Roth. Although the original Mysterion was parts'd out decades ago, Roth admirer Jeff Jones was able to recreate a very authentic replica from the Revell toy company's records. This replica has been seen at the Petersen Museum and at car shows all over the country. The 1962 Ed Roth Mysterion will be sold on Saturday at the RM Sotheby's Auction at the Petersen. We will be watching the live stream of the auction to see what this beautiful replica will bring when it crosses the auction block. Follow our blog page for Cars-On-Line.com coverage of the RM Sotheby's Petersen Museum Auction event. We will be recording some of the action for our readers. Or join us on Facebook and Twitter on Saturday to discuss the top sales.
This week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Fiat Chrysler revealed the new Jeep Gladiator Pickup concept we've been hearing so much about. Ryan Huck was in LA and captured this video on Extreme Terrain, a video podcast from the show. Click here to watch the entire reveal on You Tube. "This thing is really everthing I expected it to be and more," said Ryan Huck, the host of Extreme Terrain. "I'm really impressed with what Jeep was able to do." He got a chance to look over the Jeep Gladiator in all three trim levels, Sport, Overland and Rubicon. He points out some of the features you'll only find in the Gladiator. Extreme Terrain is the video showpiece for Extreme Terrain.com, a site which markets Jeep and Toyota Tacoma parts and accessories. Visit them at ExtremeTerrain.com

There were only 160 actual factory built street Cobras with the raw big block 427 ci V8 built by Shelby in 1966. Billed to Shelby American on 10/27/1965, this 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra was ordered new at Levittown Motors in Levittown, New York by a member of the Levitt family. In 2013, Legendary Motorcar Company completed a cosmetic restoration bringing it to the condition seen here. Showcasing its correct original livery, this is the way it would have looked when delivered new. This factory built original cobra is fully and completely documented. It is Listed in the Shelby American World Registry on both pages 482 and 563. Complete with ownership chain back to Mr. Levitt, it omes with a copy of the AC Cars Limited invoice to Shelby American, and a copy of Shelby American Invoice to the original dealer. It is now being offered for sale by Legendary Motorcar Company.
There is quite a nice story behind this 1966 Mustang Resto Mod being sold by MS Classic Cars in Seekonk, Massachusetts this week. It was built by well-known car builder Peter Len of F100 Connection. The owner wanted a car that kept the classic look but incorporated a modern, more comfortable ride. The car underwent an extensive rotisserie restoration. A complete sub-frame and 10-point roll cage was incorporated into the body structure for safety and comfort. This is a high end show quality paint job. The work is extensive. This is a video you will remember.

Remember when the Corvette ZR1 first came on the new car market back in the day? Although the list price from a dealer was about $60,000, you couldn't get your hands on one for less than six figures the first year they were out. They still are highly desirable as collector cars among Corvette collectors. This one is being sold at Diversion Motors in Mantitowoc, Wisconsin. They say it has just 25k original miles.

Project cars are the hottest thing in the collector car market this year. That's because there is still good money in it when you finish a restoration. Important finds such as this 1957 Ford Skyliner Retractable are very popular. If you can finish the restoration there is a big pay check at the end of this project.

One of the most desirable classic muscle cars in the car hobby, a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang in Grabber orange paint was just reduced by $21,000. That on a very low mile Ford muscle car which was all the rage back in the day. With documented ownership back to 1973, this classic Mustang comes with build sheets, invoices, tags and factory paint inspection stamps still present. They say it still has its original paint and only 27,000 original miles. The private collector from Walla Walla, Washington first listed it for $150,000. But now the price on this amazingly original Boss 302 has been reduced to $129,000.

Like being at the drag strip back in the day, this 1964 Plymouth Savoy SS Hemi Lightweight look-a-like really brings you back in time. Streetside Classics in Charlotte, North Carolina tells us it just underwent a painstaking nut & bolt restoration around 900 miles ago. It is a tribute to the rare lightweights by Plymouth in '64. They only built 55 actual cars. So this tribute may be the only way to afford one today.
The following are more recently listed Muscle Car Clones:
1968 Chevy Nova, North Shore Classics, COPO look, Torch Red/black, 383

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
It's not a show car but the Code 19 black paint shows well in the photos. A 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo this nice is hard to find these days. I wouldn't expect it to be anything more than a driver class car, but the engine is a nice running and sounding 350. It comes with power steering, power disc brakes and cold air conditioning. Notice the rally wheels. The black bucket seats with center console sport a horseshoe automatic shifter. The great looking muscle cars is being offered for sale by North Shore Classics in Mundelein, Illinois. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday with an asking price of $23,900. You have to admit ... that's alotta car for the money.
By the 1950's, Cadillacs were a status symbol of wealth and prestige. You had really made it if you drove a Cadillac. That's why, even today, a 1953 Cadillac Fleetwood such as this one from Colorado is an important collector find. The Fleetwood was a Series 50 Special which had a longer body and had more options than the lesser models. 1953 was the first year for the 12-volt electrical system and the 331 ci V8 was upgraded from the factory to 210 hp. This one is said to still have only 67,000 original miles. The seller says the paint, chrome and interior are "excellent." So it is a rare find, and will be our DEAL of the DAY this Sunday because the asking price is only $18,995.
The Buick GS 400 muscle cars just don't get the same respect that the hobby affords Chevelles and GTOs. Go figure. This 1969 Buick GS 400 from North Canton, Ohio has been listed for sale by Ohio Corvettes & Muscle Cars. They say this one is a very nice driver quality muscle car with a 4-speed, mild cam, and Flowmaster exhausts. They say that there are no issues mechanically, and the car is very solid. Although they say the overall appearance of the car is very good, they do note some TLC issues in the description. The undercarriage is not detailed. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price set at $26,500.
A rare 1939 Plymouth Fordor Street Rod has been listed for sale at Unique Specialty & Classics out of Mankato, Minnesota. They are pretty proud of this one. They even did a walk-around video tour of the car. Click here to review the eye catching hot rod in video. You'll get a close up view of the two-tone paint, with light lavender over purple. It is powered by a small block Chevy and comes with power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. This is an all steel body with steel fenrs and steel running boards. The power trunk opens into the front cabin. It is equpped with tilt column, VDO gauges on the ash and aftermarket air controlers and vents. It will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week. The price is $23,900.
Here is a 2007 Mustang GT/CS with the California Special insignias and badging. What a sharp car with all the features you could want in a retro Mustang. Looks like a Shelby. You won't believe the price. It is being offered for sale by Classic Car Liquidators in Sherman, Texas. They specialize in discounted classic and specialty cars. This one is said to have only 18k original miles. This one comes with leather seats, tach, power steering, dual exhaust, center console, air, Shaker 500 Premium Audio, Poweraid throttle body spacer, Hurst Competition Plus shifter, Cervinis Ram-Air hood with hood pins, Eibach front and rear sway bars and much more. This DEAL of the DAY is priced at $19,999.
In 1982, the last of the Stingray Corvettes included a Collector Edition for the first time. This 1982 Corvette Collector Edition being offered for sale by Blackdog Performnce in Lincolnshire, Illinois. Be sure to look closely at the photos. This is a nice find for the right collector. Up to that time Corvette collectors had never seen anything like it. It was finished in a beautiful Silver Beige exterior color with black accents, pinstriping enhancing the body lines, and decals running down the center of the hood and along the bottom of each door. It was the first Corvette to feature the functional opening glass hatchback. You will be pleased at the price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week priced at $15,999. That is the lowest price we've seen on one this nice.
Midwest Car Exchange in Alsip, Illinois has an interesting classic luxury car for sale. This 1971 Buick Electra 225 Custom 4-Door will amaze you when you realize the roomy comfort it affords. Smooth and stylish, MCE notes the plush interior with plenty of woodgrain accents. It has a big 455 ci V8 engine and an automatic transmission. The options include full power options plus speed alert control and six-way power seats. Just driving in this classic Buick is a cool experience. Just look at the photos. The car really shows clean. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week because they are only asking $10,500. You just can't find this much car for that kind of money anymore.
