It is not often that you find a top quality custom show car available for sale while its still in its prime. But this week Classic Car Studio out of the St Louis area is offering their premier custom build known as the Gone Mad '55 Chevy Nomad. Cars-On-Line.com newsletter readers will remember when we covered this car when it was one of the top builds at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals in 2016. Classic Car Studio told us it broke the mold on custom Tri-Five builds. It is the ultimate Mod Rod styling with cutting edge performance to match the build.
The Gone Mad '55 Chevy Nomad was built in Classic Car Studio's Speed Shop in Brentwood, Missouri. Scott France, welding and fabrication technician at the CCS Speed Shop said they kept all of the original classic lines of the iconic Chevy Nomad intact and blended it with the Mod Rod styling of today ... flat paint and big wheels. The Basf Glasurit paint is called Krazy Kiwi with Truffle Butter Gold, a special mix just for this car. "We took our Billet Specialties wheels and had them shot peened to make them look like cast aluminum from back in the '50s and '60s, and had them painted to look like magnesium," France told us. "We painted all the chrome with Kiwi Green and a Beach Bronze Brown on the top, flat and shiny, still goin' with today's style. Still keepin' the classic lines."
Look at over 100 photos of the Gone Mad '55 Chevy Nomad on the CCS ad page. One of the build photos shows the the Roadster Shop Revo chassis with front mounted Flaming River power rack and pinion steering visible. They used a Wilwood Forged Pro spindle, Afco Pro Touring coilovers, ten gauge fully boxed, 4"X4" frame rails, and Tri-Angulated 4-bar rear suspension.
The Western themed Relicate leatherite interior is a had crafted work of art. So unique. It includes a one piece woodgrain headliner and woodgrain interior trim. The custom fabricated sheet metal door panels, consoles, trunk panel, and mini tubs, plus custom fabricated belly pan were all done in the CCS Speed Shop.
But the high tech performance drivetrain really brings home what this classic custom is all about. Power comes from an intricately built Shafirrof Racing 509 W Motor producing 625 horsepower. All that power is transferred through a Bowler 4l80E with Bowler Compushift computer, bolstered by a Billet 9”x11” Triple Disc Lockup stall converter. It puts the power to the ground with a Ford 9" rear end.
You will want to read our feature story on this Gone Mad '55 Chevy Nomad at the MyDreamCar.online blog page. There you'll see an interview with Classic Car Studio's Scott France from the 2016 NSRA Street Rod Nationals, plus more build info on this extraordinary classic custom hot rod.

Patrick Glenn Nichols is a Chevelle guy who specializes in barn finds. He often contributes articles to Hot Rod Magazine. He hosts a You Tube video site called Patrick Glenn Nichols Barn Finds. This week he posted a video on a fresh find in Iowa that is the mother lode of Chevrolet muscle car parts. Not only are there reported to be hundreds of Chevy muscle cars on this property, most in restorable condition. But in the out-buildings there are rare engines and body parts that you just would not believe. Patrick did an initial video tour through just one of the buildings and what he found is amazing. Follow this link to view Patrick's video. At one point in the video Patrick points out racks full of Muncie 4-speed transsmission cases and 621 bellhousings. He figures there are 500 Muncie 4-speed cases on the property. He also found a couple of L78 big block 1970 Chevy II Novas. Sadly, Patrick has not indicated whether any of these parts are for sale. But I would not be surprised if some of them found their way to auction now that they have been uncovered. You have to see it to believe it.
We hope you were able to follow our coverage of the Tri-Five Nationals 2018 this past weekend. It is one of the best car shows we cover all year. Follow this link to review the show in photos and video. Find out who won the Tri-Five of the Year Award and whose registration number was drawn to win the Woody's Hot Rods 1955 Chevy Giveaway Car. Bob and Donna Boberg of eClassicAutos.com were onhand to cover all the action for our readers. If you followed our posts on Facebook and Twitter you saw a Bowtie celebration of 1955, 1956, and 1957 gassers, Bel Airs, Cameos, first generation Vettes, Nomads, and much more.

What do you get when you performance tune a Ford GT beyond its factory prescribed limits? Well Ford Performance designed and then ordered 500 units of their SEMA special built prototype GTX1 in 2005. The Genaddi Design Group, a well respected coachbuilder in Green Bay, Wisconsin, built the SEMA car for Ford and took the 500 unit order. At the heart of the build was a 550-horsepower aluminum 5.4 liter performance motor specifically designed for the GT program. Feeding the mod motor was a Lysholm twin-screw supercharger that's paired with an underdrive pulley with 500 lb./ft. of torque flowing through a Ricardo 6-speed transaxle. You know the suspension was fully tuned to hook up all that power and put it to the pavement. A buyer who wanted a GTX1 had to purchase a new 2005 Ford GT which was then shipped to the Genaddi Design Group for upgrades. But after only 38 of these 2005 Ford GTX1's were produced Ford canceled the program. So for collectors today, the 38 cars which were produced are rare and desirable ... if almost untouchable. Today RK Motors Charlotte has posted one of these incredible 2005 Ford GTX1 exotic super cars for sale in our Exotic Car Section. You will want to follow this link to view a reverent video presentation on this truly world class Ford GTX1.
Chevrolet's Cameo Carrier Pickup trucks are arguably among the most sought after half-ton trucks of the 1950's. And the 1958 Chevrolet Cameo Carrier Pickup is probably the rarest and most desirable of them all. That is because by 1958 the orders were down and they only produced 1,400 Cameos that year. The U.S. was reeling from its first real recession since WWII, and all automotive manufacturers suffered poorer sales that year. The Louisiana seller says it is an original California truck which has only been in Louisiana for the past two years. He says it has just 37k original miles, and that it is "super clean" and "drives very well." Should you have it inspected, he indicates that you won't be disappointed.
This year's Fall Auburn Auction on Labor Day Weekend is shaping up to be the one big national auction you just can't afford to miss. The Fall Auburn Auction by RM Auctions is part of the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Festival held in Auburn, Indiana, August 31-September 2, 2018. RM Auctions is anticipating over 700 vehicles to cross the auction block for the giant sale. The auction sale at the RM Auction Park during the A-C-D Festival has been going on for 45 years. Here are some of the featured cars we look forward to seeing later this month:
Will this highly sought after 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Roadster break the $ Million dollar mark when it crosses the auction block at the Fall Auburn Auction come Labor Day Weekend? These classic Mercedes roadsters have done very well at RM Auctions this year. Americans wanted a roadster that resembled the legendary 300 SL and Mercedes provided it in the 1957 190 SL model. Only 618 were produced, with only 30 in the rare Strawberry red metallic finish.
For the muscle car buyer, there will be some rare ones offered by RM Auctions at the Fall Auburn Auction. This 1970 Plymouth Superbird is a fine example. It comes with the Super Commando 440 big block motor. The RM Auctions description says this is offered from the Ray Evernham Collection. The noted NASCAR crew chief says it has just 33k original miles and is one of only 1,920 produced by Plymouth. These cars were built for NASCAR and consistently did 200+ miles per hour at the track.
During the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Festival on Labor Day Weekend it is only fitting that a 1937 Cord 812 Coffin Nose Convertible such as this one should take the auction stage at the RM Auction. This Cord factory supercharged Phaeton is an exceptional example, according to the auction brochure. It was restored in 2003 in its factory color scheme. It has been certified by the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Club. It is believed that the supercharged motor was factory fitted by Cord.
This is a race inspired factory produced 1957 Oldsmobile 98 Convertible with the J-2 tripower big block motor which was outlawed by NASCAR in 1957. They say this one has undergone a professional high quality restoration. The photos show a tri-color interior, all the rage in the classic '50s. Wherever we see these cars in show condition they go for six figure prices. They say it has a freshly rebuilt 371 ci with the J-2 tripower carbs. It comes with full power including the convertible top.

Sit back and enjoy the video feature on a 1973 Dodge Dart from Grand Blanc, Michigan. The seller provides a full walk-around tour, detailing the meticulous restoration, performance goodies, and a freshly built 360 6-pack with a mild cam. Other features include a custom interior, upgraded ignition, Suregrip posi, and a 727 TorqueFlite transmission. It's documented with an original broadcast sheet and fender tag. The seller invites your questions or a professional appraiser, but you can get a pretty good idea of the quality here thanks to the SLIDE SHOW ad and video feature. Click here to watch!

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
A 1968 Ford Torino GT was just listed by a collector in Springer, Oklahama that really has to grab our attention. The seller says it is a 100 percent rust free Southern Oklahoma car with extremely nice paint. He notes a factory interior, 302 2-barrel carburetor, C4 transmission and cold air conditioning. Plus he says it has nearly new Cooper Cobra tires on nice GT wheels,(includes spare); xcellent factory Ford tinted glass; bumpers look new and all of the trim is very nice. What's more, he says you can drive this car anywhere. It would be a good one to have inspected. That's why it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday with an asking price of $18,000.
Doesn't this 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday look gorgeous in this photo? I guess you would only know for sure if you get it inspected. The inspection report would provide a hundred photos of the detail work on the car and get you an independent third party appraisal of its worth. The seller from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada says it is a rare car with nice paint, chrome and interior. Great color combination, isn't it? The Holiday designation is what Oldsmobile used to describe a pillarless hardtop. Canadian cars are looking "cheaper" to us here in the U.S. because of the currency exchange rate. The seller is asking just $18,000 in U.S. funds.
If you love the old school hot rod look, this 1927 Ford Model T is for you. GR Auto Gallery in Grand Rapids, Michigan is offering it for sale this week. It resembles the hot rods built back in the 1950's when rodders combed through junk yards to find Model T cars and modified them to race and drive. It has a Buick 6 cylinder engine and funnel type stack with Edelbrock intake. Note the laker style exhaust pipe. It is built for fun, just like back in the day. This week it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price of just $14,900. Hurry on this one!
Another Canadian seller has this 1949 Dodge B1B Pickup which is a nice little half-ton model with a wood rail on the bed. So sweet, we can't believe he's only asking $17,500 in U.S. funds for it. He says it is in excellent condition, but makes a point of saying that it has not been restored. Yes, that's right, the description says this is an original survivor which has been repainted, and has had repairs done to her over the years. Part of the explanation of why it is so well preserved is that he says it has been kept in a heated garage during the winter months. Fill out our inspection form here if you would like to have it inspected.
Here is yet another stellar deal from a Canadian seller. A hot rodder from Bowmanville, ON, Canada wants to sell his 1935 Ford Tudor Slantback, a very desirable street rod to own. The seller says this is an all steel custom build with a Heidts Mustang II front end, 327 engine, 350 automatic transmission, air conditioning, power steering, power brakes and power windows. Both the buyer and the seller are winners in this deal because the asking price is only $26,500 in U.S. funds. Because of the exhange rate the seller is doing very well, and the buyer is getting a real value if this car is as good as it looks. A pre-purchase inspection would be helpful here.
The Dodge Power Wagon is a truck which was produced originally during World War II and became well known among veterans for their four-wheel-drive capabilities. They are big, bad and rugged. And collectors have recently rediscovered them in a big way. That's why we are so suprised to see one listed here in the DEAL of the DAY this week. Here is a 1965 Dodge Power Wagon Firetruck with only 11,900 original miles, according to the seller in Lafayette, Louisiana. He says it is a pump truck which was taken out of service in April 2017. It comes with a Big Block 318 motor. They say it is rust free except for one spot on the step of the bed where the water would drip when they were pumping. Otherwise they say this is a "super clean truck and fun to drive." It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is only $19,500. Very desirable find.
In terms of collector desirability it is hard to beat a classic Mustang convertible. 4-Wheel Classics in Holland, Michigan specializes in four-wheel-drive vehicles, but their side hobby is classic Fords. They really get into anything Ford. This week they are offering a 1966 Mustang Convertible that is priced way under the average value of these classic ragtops. "The best thing about this particular vehicle is the fact that the floors are all original," they told us. "... and we also found no sign of any metal work or patches in the body. This is a big deal on a Mustang and a big bonus on a car like this." Click this link to view a walk-around video they shot. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week if it lasts that long. The asking price is $24,900.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
