By the time R.E. Olds rolled the 1932 REO Flying Cloud 6-S series cars off his production lines it may have been too late to save the company. But there is no doubt that his 6-21 Sport model was a high quality car that an American buyer could purchase for an afforable price.
This 1932 REO Flying Cloud 6-21 Sport Sedan probably sold for about $1,110 when it was new. It is being offered for sale this week by Carroll Street Auto in Manchester, New Hampshire. They tell us it is a 16-time AACA Grand National Senior Award Winner. Sixteen years is a long time to keep a vintage motorcar in concours condition. That's a lotta' spit and polish. Restored in the late 1990’s, it comes in Dark Navy Blue mirror finish lacquer paint. It features dual mounted spares, Navy Blue color keyed true spoke wheels wrapped with wide white wall tires, museum quality chrome plating, storage trunk and dual side mirrors. The grey Mohair upholstery is clean and looks fresh in the photos. (Follow this link to review dozens of high resolution photos.) The restored wood graining on the dashboard and interior door frames complements the restored instruments and gauges.
Among its interesting innovations, the REO Flying Cloud was the first car to use Lockheed’s new hydraulic internal expanding brake system. By 1932 REO Flying Clouds were known for their V-type radiator, silent second gear and full pressure engine lubrication. REO claimed the 1932 Flying Cloud would have better aerodynamic qualities because of the shorter and rounder roof forehead and trimmed corners. The V-shaped radiator grille and the flared front fenders added to the aero qualities. In the 1932 brochure they claimed its aerodynamic qualities would increase gas mileage and reduce the cost of owning a car.
Vintage car collectors will want to review a history of Random E. Olds' REO Motor car Company here in the COL blog online. Even though REO stopped building motorcars in 1936, they continued to build trucks right into the 1970's under the White Trucking Company.

The 10 Millionth Mustang produced rolled off the assembly line on August 8, 2018 at the Ford Flatrock plant. It was a Wimbledon white 2019 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. Ford celebrated the event by having rare Mustangs configured in a number 10,000,000 pattern outside the Flatrock plant with photos taken overhead by a drone. Collectors may never have a chance at owning this rare milestone car however. It is assumed that the 10 Millionth Mustang will be sequestered in the Ford Collection. It is equipped with a 5.0L V8 with 460 horsepower and a six-speed manual transmission. The Wimbeldon white finish is the same as the first Mustang produced with VIN 001 in March of 1964. This celebration is in tribute to a similar event in 1966 when the 1 Millionth Mustang was produced March 2 of that year. Again, it was a white 1966 Mustang GT Convertible. The first Mustang to have VIN 001 was also a white 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible purchased by an airline pilot who lived in Newfoundland, Canada. Ford let that one get away but was able to get it back two years later by offering him the 1 Millionth white 1966 Mustang GT Convertible in trade.
If you have never seen the fabled 1956-57 Chevrolet El Morroccos you are in for a real treat today. We're here at the Tri-Five Nationals in Bowling Green, Kentucky this weekend. In the Sloan Convention Center, where show goers come to register, is a display of original Tri-Five Chevy's that is to die for. They call the display the Heritage Collection, and it has some of the most beautiful 1955-1957 Chevrolets in existence. Follow this link to view the rare and beautiful Tri-Fives on display.
The Tri-Five Nationals 2018 are underway today at the Beach Bend Raceway. Our photo-journalist Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos.com will be on hand to cover the show in photos and video for our readers. Also watch for our posts on Facebook and Twitter. It is a Bowtie celebration of 1955, 1956, and 1957 gassers, Bel Airs, Cameos, first generation Vettes, Nomads, and much more. If you cannot make it to Bowling Green in person, you'll not want to miss our coverage.

Our congratulations go out to Boesch Auto Body of Humphrey, Nebraska for winning the Builder of the Year Award this past weekend at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky. Dale Boesch told us all about the 1936 Ford Roadster he built for Marge and Dana Elrod. Watch our video interview with Dale on our NSRA Nationals blog page. This incredible resoration took over eleven years, and the custom fabrication work is out of this world. Be sure to read all about this classic custom build and see the other 24 entrants in the Builder's Showcase. You'll also want to watch video interviews with custom car builders and watch video of the action as street rods cruise the grounds of the Kentucky Expo Center where the NSRA Street Rod Nationals was held.
At first you think, "That's the crazyest thing I've ever seen!" But then you begin to realize the custom creation before you is fabricated out of real steel body panels and you begin to appreciate the hand crafted work before you. That's the effect this cartoon themed VW Custom Microbus called the "Surf Seeker" will have on you. We ran into Ron Berry, the builder from St George, Utah, at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals 2018 this past weekend. He talked with our photo journalist Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos.com. Follow this link to a full story on this amazing custom build and find out how Ron started building these Cartoon Cars. Click the video window as Ron shows some of the remote control features. His skill set is perfect for this type of work. He may be the next Ed "Big Daddy" Roth type prodigy in custom car building. Hey, Mattel Hot Wheels, you better get on this!

This week Streetside Classics out of Atanta, Georgia posted a 1967 Shelby GT00 survivor class car. Now you know that, for some collectors, survivor cars have a value all their own. Streetside tells us that this car was left completely orignal until 2005 when the mechanicals were rebuilt ... i.e. rebuilt 428 Police Interceptor engine with only 894 miles on the redo; rebuilt dual quad carburetors; and reproduction dual exhaust system. They tell us the C4 3-speed automatic transmission shifts cleanly and spins the original 3.50 Traction-Lok 9-inch rear end. Preserved are the original 1967-vintage Nightmist Blue paint and factory comfort-weave buckets, a beautiful Shelby wood steering wheel, and even original carpets. It is a rarity to find an original GT500. The Marti Report notes that it is one of only eight GT500's equipped this way. What a find! Here is a walk-around video inspection done by Streetside for your viewing pleasure.
Get a better look at this 1971 Buick Gran Sport 455 in the video above! It's a 2-owner example with just 77,000 actual miles that remains in "show quality" condition according to the ad by Ross Customs of Ortonville, Michigan. It has a tinted windshield, original stainless, new door handles, and factory bucket seats. There's an original center console, excellent shifter, and a numbers matching 455. Click here to see it all!

Until 2010, this 1969 Triumph TR6 knew only one owner according to the seller, Classic Motorcars in Holliston, Maryland. Today it maintains an original bill of sale, window sticker, and manuals. It's a first year of production example that spent quite a bit of time in storage until 2010 when it was restored. Thanks to that, it has just 22,000 original miles today!

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY section on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
Much like a big block Mustang, this 1969 Mercury Cougar Convertible with the 390 4-barrel motor and C6 automatic transmission was the muscle car with creature comforts. It came from the factory well optioned with factory air (needs TLC) power steering, power front disc brakes, power windows, AM/FM stereo and a console. The private seller from Wheaton, Illinois tells us it has some rust in the rear quarters and driver's side floor, needs new top and a windshield. But he says it runs well with Cherry Bomb mufflers from the '70s. This one you can drive while you restore it. So it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday with an asking price of $15,500.
Not only is this 1964 Buick LeSabre Convertible a rare find, the Wisconsin seller tells us this one still drives like a new car. He says he found this car in Florida and it still has no rust on the undercarriage. He says he replaced the radiator, front brake hoses and dual exhaust. He also found an OEM factory carburetor to replace the original one. A big update was the replacement of a convertible top. This car came with a power trunk release, AM/FM radio, power windows, power seats, power antenna, power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. He says the heater control unit does not work, although everything else is in working order. He also adds that the head gaskets, timing chain and oil pump are all new. Have it inspected to verify the condition before you buy. But this one sounds like a good buy for $9,500.
A Canadian seller from Nova Scotia invites you to fly in and drive this 1964 Plymouth Fury Convertible home. (He says he lives just 15 minutes from the Halifax Airport.) He describes the car as a "Very solid, pretty much original Fury Convertible, 78000 original miles." He says the power top works great, interior good, no rust, drive it anywhere. With the bullet proof 318 Mopar engine it is great on gas and still is a good performing V8. According to the history this car was ordered in 1964 for the wife of a Chrysler dealer in the U.S. The subsequent owner had the car for 40 years. It has the push button automatic transmission. We do have inspectors in Canada so you should be able to have it inspected before you buy it. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday with an asking price of just $19,000.
If you are looking for the perfect car to just drive and cruise and have fun with you can do no better than the 1966 Plymouth Satellite just listed in our Mopar Section by Classic Auto Showplace in Troy, Michigan. It has a 440 big block motor with an automatic transmission. The big block motor has only 200 miles on it. Both engine and transmission were rebuilt at the same time. It comes in an eye catching red finish with black interior. It also has its original Certicard and Fender Tag. VIN: 166E1950277. Check out the photos on the ad page. We think you'll agree that it is a pretty good value at the asking price of $16,975.
Do you love the resto mod Jeep craze that's sweeping the collector community? Yeah, you want a classic Jeep that is all rebuilt to run like it was your daily driver. That's what we've got here in this 1965 Jeep CJ5 Custom offered for sale by Unique Specialty & Classics out of Mankato, Minnesota. The owner said the assembly of this CJ was completed a little over 2 years ago and has had about 3,300 miles on it since it was finished. Under the hood you'll find a smooth running 302 Ford V8 with pertronix ignition, new alluminum intake, a new Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and new starter. The engine is paired with a 3-speed manual transmission that shifts smoothly as does the 3 speed transfer case. The winch up front has a removable hand control and they say it works perfectly. There is too much to list on this one. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is $16,900.
A private seller from Cumberland, Ontario, Canada is offering his 1992 Dodge Stealth for sale. The Stealth is a true exotic sports car that was offered by Dodge with a similar version offered by Mitsubishi called the 3000 GT. This is a one owner winged car. The seller says it has never been driven in winter. No rust and smoke free, says the Canadian seller. It has been safety checked and certified by a licensed mechanic. The seller says the interior is in excellent condition, and overall that the car has been well maintained. It has modern conveniences such as new sound system with USB port, iPod connection and bluetooth hands free phone connection. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $7,500.
For a younger generation this 1996 Mustang GT Convertible from Moore, Oklahoma is the collector car of choice. The built 4.6L V8 with BBK Blackout Cold Air Intake Kit & 73mm throttle body intake plenum combo and E3 spark plugs. The performance Pro Touring setup includes Koni orange shocks and struts STR.T, KYB Gas-A-Just rear quad shocks, Eibach front and rear sway bars, Eibach Pro-Plus lowering springs front and rear, 1.5 in. Billet Aluminum Hubcentric Wheel Spacers on Rear. The Power Stop Z23 Evolution rotors are cross drilled and slotted. In October 2016 had new 3:73 Ford Racing Gears and axels installed. And that's just the beginning. See more equipment listed in the ad. This is a lotta' street machine for the money. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week if it lasts that long. The asking price is $10,000.
