A paperwork trick that some dealers used during the "muscle car wars" allowed Chevrolet dealers to order through a fleet ordering system called the Central Office Processing Order or COPO. You could order a Camaro Pony car with an L72 427/425 horsepower factory hot rod engine using the COPO 9651 code. That is something Berger Chevrolet in Grand Rapids, Michigan knew well. Today a Berger COPO Camaro is valued in six figure numbers.
We are thrilled to view these photos of a 1969 Berger COPO Camaro offered for sale by Legendary Motorcar Company. They tell us that when you open the hood you will find the numbers matching L72 427/425hp COPO engine. Factory ordered in eye catching Rallye Green paint with white interior and white sport striping, they say it is still backed by its numbers matching M-21 4-speed transmission.
At first it might seem like just another small block Camaro. The cowl induction hood and rear spoiler will give it away, but the factory Rally wheels are pretty standard. No special emblems or highlights were present on the COPO cars so they were the ultimate sleepers on the street. Most were meant for the drag strip where they could instantly compete with just minor adjustments. This one has the white hockey stripe as a complement to its Rallye Green finish.
The options are few, but include power disc brakes, AM radio, chin spoiler and Style Trim Group. Amazingly, the car remained in the possession of its original owner for 40 years to the day of its original purchase.
Legendary Motorcar Company tells us the car is in show quality condition with beautiful polished paint, new interior and a detailed undercarriage. It is fully documented with Protect-O-Plate, Owner’s Manual, Shipper Report and original finance paperwork.
Camaro enthusiasts will want to review a history of GM's COPO program at our MyDreamCar.online blog page. Then be sure to tell us your COPO stories in the comments section below the article. We all have a COPO story or two from the drag strip. Man, those were the days.

One of the reasons Porsche was able to dominate enduro racing in the 1970's was the introduction of a limited edition 911 RSR, purpose built for racing. Legendary Motorcars posted a real 1974 Porsche 911 RSR for sale this week. Like a shot heard round the world, Porsche collectors will consider this the most significant offering on the market this year. They indicate that this was one of the most successful competition RSR's in history. The first owner of this Porsche RSR took it to the 1974 Swiss National Championship. In 1977 it won nine of seventeen races to once again win the 1977 Swiss National Championship in FIA. Again it won ten races in 1978, although it did not win the championship that year. That was the last year it was in competition. Amazingly, the 1974 Porsche 911 RSR never failed to finish a race and was never wrecked. It remains in the best shape of any of the RSR's created by Porsche. It is still certified for FIA, and often appears in motorsports reunion competitions.
For the first time ever on the pages of the Cars-On-Line.com newsletter comes an extremely rare British motorcar, a 1951 Alvis TA21 Drophead. It is being offered for sale by Charles S Crail Automobiles of Santa Barbara, California. Alvis brand named cars were first available in 1920 and the company has built cars, engines and aircraft engines even into modern times. Alvis was bought out by Rover in 1994. This Model TA21 featured independent front suspension (an Alvis invention) and a new, overhead-valve, six cylinder, Three Litre engine. There were only 80 left-hand-drive editions built for 1951 with only 302 TA21 dropheads built altogether. This one was actually completed in February of 1952 and delivered to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. There it was owned by a famous jazz pianist and singer named Pia Beck.
This year's Fall Auburn Auction on Labor Day Weekend is shaping up to be the one big national auction you just can't afford to miss. The Fall Auburn Auction by RM Auctions is part of the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Festival held in Auburn, Indiana, August 3-September 2, 2018. RM Auctions is anticipating over 700 vehicles to cross the auction block for the giant sale. The auction sale at the RM Auction Park during the A-C-D Festival has been going on for 45 years. Here are some of the featured cars we look forward to seeing later this month:
Topping an amazing lineup of vintage motorcars which will be for sale at the Fall Auburn Auction in Auburn, Indiana on Labor Day Weekend is a 1929 Duesenberg Model J Sedan with special coachwork by Derham/Bohman & Schwartz. The incredibly rare motorcar is from an exclusive collection. It is chassis no. 2143, engine no. J-118, the very first body built for Duesenberg by the Derham Body Company of Pennsylvania. It was more recently shown at the 1997 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, winning Best in Class.
Is there no ceiling on how high the prices will go for the 2006 Ford GT super exotic cars? The new Ford GT's are sold out before they even get to the dealerships. Analysts say the Ford GT gives you the purest sports car driving experience of any car on the road. Just like its predeccessor, the Ford GT40 from the 1960's, today's Ford GT's are a declaration that Ford intends to build the best cars on the road. This elegant exotic car is estimated by RM Auctions to be worth between $325,000 and $375,000.
From legendary NASCAR crew chief Ray Evernham's car collection comes a truly rare muscle car, a Presidentil Blue 1969 Ford Torino Talladega. As the story goes, Ford may not have actually produced enough of the Talladegas by the homologation deadline to have qualified for NASCAR certification. But Ford would ultimately complete 738 production Talladegas. The Talladegas won 26 races to win the driver's and manufacturers championships in 1969. They say it is all original with the big block 428 CJ motor.
We have never seen a 1959 Edsel Corsair Skycruiser Retractable for sale here in the Cars-On-Line.com newsletter before. That's because they never built one. This Edsel Corsair was restored in tribute to the Ford Skyliner Retractables of the era. It is an example of what could have been if Ford would have produced an Edsel retractable. Based on a Ford Fairlane 500 it was restored to factory specs with Edsel taillights, tailfins, “continental kit,” and trim hardware, and the interior finished in correct 1959 Edsel trim and hardware.

Here's a 1931 Buick 56 S Coupe that's been in the same family for decades according to the seller, Unique Specialty & Classics of Mankato, Minnesota. They say it's had just one repaint and remains very original, with all steel, rumble seat, and a rebuilt Straight 8 engine that provides a nice amount of power. This was the first year Buick offered the Straight 8 engine. You don't see the bigger Buicks like this one very often. Click here to watch!

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY section on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
This week we've got some of the best classic cars ever in the DEAL of the DAY feature here. Take a look at this driver quality 1954 Mercury Monterey Sun Valley edition which is even more rare than its cousin the Ford Fairlane Skyliner from the same year. Although the Skyliner gets more press, this Sun Valley edition Mercury with the plexiglass roofline is a very rare and desirable classic to own. It is a mild custom with a 406 small block Chevy and comes with heat and air conditioning, power windows, power brakes, power steering, and custom paint in pearl white metal flake. The seller says it is beautiful and describes it as an absolutely stunning car. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday with an affordable asking price of $23,500. What a find!
Here is an historic and desirable classic to collect. Talk about an investment car. This 1936 Chrysler Airflow was a benchmark car in automotive history. (Just last month Daniel Schmitt & Company listed one which was in both Carroll Shelby's and actor Steve McQueen's personal collections, see story at this link.) So you can see how amazing it is that one should show up here in the DEAL of the DAY feature. The Canadian seller says it has a "fantastic original rust-free body. Sits nice and level. Starts at a touch of a button." Only 1,590 were ever produced by Chrysler. It runs a 155 horsepower 323.5 L-head Straight Eight engine backed by a 3-speed standard manual transmission with an overdrive gear. This fantastic find will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday with an asking price of just $17,500. Hurry on this one!
All of a sudden there are several 1940's era Dodge trucks for sale this week. We haven't seen this many ever. Then we find out this 1941 Dodge WC Pickup truck is being listed by a Montana collector for pocket change. What an opportunity. This one will surprise you. At this price you might suspect it needs a lot of work. But the seller says it has new paint, tires, brakes, bed wood and upholstery. That is a lot of work done. He goes on to say that it comes with a rebuilt engine, water pump, carb and fuel pump. Based on the description it is worth having this one inspected. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday because the price is below average at just $10,500.
Sports car lovers have always had a fascination with the limited production Lotus Elan. What does everybody love about the Elan? It is the perfect blend of an engine that is "bigger than a sports car needs" and a light body that really performs the way a sports car is supposed to. So here is a 1966 Lotus Elan being offered by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. They represent it as being an excellent California blue plate car. It is featured here with 2 tops and is available in light yellow with a black interior. It comes equipped with a manual transmission, dual Weber carburetors, Tonneau cover, Panasport wheels and includes the spare tire, tool kit, and jack. It will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week. The asking price is just $19,950.
Baby boomers are starting to figure out the trend we are seeing in this current market. Prices are trending lower on a lot of very important collector cars. That's why we are seeing so many great deals being offered here in the DEAL of the DAY this week. One in particular is this 1957 Ford Thunderbird from Ohio. This is the "sleeper buy" of the week on Cars-On-Line.com. The seller says it is finished in Inca Gold and "has a beautiful luster that is further accentuated by chrome and brightwork that is in excellent condition. Adding further distinction are its Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels and continental kit." It has the 312 ci Thunderbird small block motor and Ford-o-matic transmission. Can't find anything negative in this descriition. So have it inspected. But hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is just $24,900.
Classic Studebakers are very popular among custom car builders. This 1950 Studebaker Champion will put a smile on your face. The old Bullet Nose is a real ground pounder with its ZZ4 GM crate with thumper 2 Cam. The Subaru blue body sits on an S-10 chassis, lots of fabrication work. The seller notes lots of upgrades including $2,500 worth of new chrome. Ask him about the new brakes and suspension work. One thing is for sure ... you could not begin to build this car for the asking price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. He has just reduced the price to $16,500. He's real serious to sell.
The 1979 Dodge Lil Red Express was a one-of-a-kind product introduced by Chrysler in the late 1970's. The Lil Red Express was produced only two years, 1978 and 1979. They were part muscle car and part big rig tribute. One thing is for sure. There has never been anything like it in the automotive hobby ever since. When introduced in 1978 they were the fastest production vehicle made that year, whether you were comparing cars or trucks. This one comes from Classic Car Liquidators in Sherman, Texas. They say it has all the bells and whistles, including the 360 ci motor, wood bed, dual chrome exhaust stacks and smart looking paint. It is a real hobby truck with investment potential because the asking price is only $13,999. Be sure to have it inspected before you buy, though.
