Through the muddied streets of the Great Depression rode a classic motorcar which to this day is considered one of the most beautiful marques ever produced. Walter P. Chrysler loved the cowl-less design of his 1933 Chrysler Imperial CL Dual Cowl Phaeton. It was penned by Ralph Roberts of Lebaron. Over the years it stands as an equal to the motorcars produced by Duesenberg, Cadillac, Packard and Lincoln.
In the fourth year of the Great Depression, bread lines and soup kitchens were on the minds of the public. Despite the economic woes, some of the most majestic cars ever produced emerged during those times. One of these was the 1933 Chrysler Imperial CL Dual Cowl Phaeton you see here offered for sale by the Legendary Motorcar Company. (Follow this link to find more photos and information.) Few cars can boast the provenance of this classic motorcar. It was owned by playboys and Hollywood movie stars. From 1985 to 1987 it underwent a full restoration at the hands of Richard Orchard, known for his concours restorations.
Currently, it has what seems a 384 c.i. inline 8 cylinder high compression Red Head (6.2 to 1) engine which would have been correct for the period. It is rated at about 135 bhp. The Stromberg downdraft carburetor was innovative and powerful. It is thought that the 2-and-a-half ton car could achieve 96 mph. Big as it was, the massive car ran smooth and quiet because of Chrysler's patented Floating Power engine mounts.
The 1933 Chrysler Imperial CL Dual Cowl Phaeton was a "driver's car" built for performance with special steering that took corners easily. The turned-aluminum dashboard is impressive and complements a very interesting interior covered in leather. Its classic design benefitted from pronounced separated two-piece windshields and hood ventilator doors. The dual-cowl phaeton had a fixed second cowl into which the rear windshield could be cranked down.
The Imperial was not the most expensive motorcar of its age. At $3,395 it was still a lot of money for the common man. As it happened, 1933 was the last year in which the Imperial was produced. But it was not because of price that the Imperial was phased out. You see, in 1934 Chrysler came out with its forward thinking Airflow design. The era of the beautiful motorcar and elegant coachwork was over. For production numbers and a full history on the 1933 Chrysler Imperial CL click this link to our MyDreamCar.online blog.

The time has arrived. Even as you read this RM Sotheby's Fort Lauderdale Auction is happening at the Broward Convention Center, Friday and Saturday, April 6-7, 2018. We'll be watching to see if this 1969 Boss 429 Mustang, lot # 3143, gets its estimated value of $220,000 to $260,000 on Saturday. RM Sotheby's is the auction company hosting the Fort Lauderdale Auction this year for the first time. The event has become so popular it is now considered South Florida's premier collector car auction. You can read full histories on most of the featured cars in the sale in RM Sotheby's excellent online catalog. You'll find more information there on each car than anywhere in print. About 300 high quality collector cars will cross the auction block today and tomorrow. Follow this link for the full list.
The coolest show car we've seen this year so far is one built by the Ringbrothers, of course. This totally refabricated 1972 AMX Javelin is called DEFIANT for good reason. The 1,060 hp 6.2L Hellcat engine under the hood produces incredible burnouts. (Click here to view The Hoonigans video of it on You Tube.) The Bowler transmission will handle 1,600 hp. We saw it at the Detroit Autorama this year. Our photo journalist Bob Boberg did his own video tribute to the car. Click here to view the video on eClassicAutos.com. The car is finished in a BMW color called Austin Yellow, perfectly matching the color of Prestone coolant. The Ringbrothers built it to honor Prestone's 90th Anniversary. The Ringbrothers take muscle cars and reinvent them with modern day technology. They are masters of design and performance. Watch for it at a car show near you.
The 4th Annual Danchuk Tri-Five Nationals will have a Golden Star Giveaway Car again this year (art rendering shown left) for Tri-Five enthusiasts. You have to register to win. Here is their promo page. Be sure to watch the video interview with Chris Sondles of Woodys Hot Rodz. He is introducing the Woodys Hot Rodz Tri-Five chassis, the first one ever certified for use by Chevrolet Performance. The video was shot by our photo journalist Bob Boberg while we were at the Detroit Autorama this year. Woodys Hot Rodz is the promoter for the Tri-Five Nationals, August 9-11, 2018 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It is the fastest growing show in the country. Cars-On-Line.com will be there to cover the event.
We get such a kick out of reading the comments people write when they sell their cars. It just makes us feel like we are doing something that matters. "We had plenty of calls and SOLD the 1934 Chevy 3 Window Coupe," a Maryland advertiser wrote when he filled out the SOLD form online. "It was very easy to do for us and the buyer. Thank you, Cars-On-Line, for having a website that reaches so many people. Would definitely do it again." The chopped 3-Window Coupe with the all-steel body and ghost flames was priced right to sell for this market. Now the owner knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell on Cars-On-Line." You'll be amazed at the vehicles SOLD thru Cars-On-Line this week. Follow this link to the SOLD section below. When you see how effective a Cars-On-Line.com ad can be, you may want to advertise your car with Cars-On-Line at this link!

There are only two weeks left to make plans to attend the Spring Carlisle Car Show and Swap Meet, April 18-22, 2018 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Our attention will be on the Spring Carlisle Auction at the Carlisle Expo Center, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 19-21, 2018. Our Cars-On-Line car show team will be there to cover the event for our readers. Here is a sampling of the cars and trucks you'll see featured in the sale:
Ford and Mercury muscle car collectors will be licking their chops as this 1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator crosses the auction block at the Spring Carlisle Auction, April 19-21, 2018. This is a rare one. It is one of only 169 Eliminators that came with the Boss 302 motor. This Eliminator is shown in its correct color Competition Orange and black interior with vinyl high back bucket seats. Now you realize that this car is in driver quality condition so regular car guys have a chance at this one. Yet it is one of only three which came with the Decor group package and a remote drivers mirror. Quite a find.
You can't find a classic '50s car with more collector appeal than this 1958 Edsel Pacer Convertible. It was just added to the auction inventory for the Spring Carlisle event this week. You see it here in its Coral and white exterior finish with a Coral and white tutone interior. It also has a white power convertible top. The big 400 c.i. V8 engine was more than enough to power it with a automatic transmission. It also comes with power steering, power brakes, trim package, armrests and ash trays. It is one of of only 1,876 produced that year.
This famous tribute to an East Coast legend is the 1949 Chevy Custom Convertible. Joe Serino and his New York family built the original car which was featured on the cover of Custom Rodder magazine in May of 1962. On the 50th Anniversary the second generation of the Serino family built a tribute car just like the 1949 White Chevy they grew up with. This car has some upgrades from the original. The 409 engine is backed by an overdrive Tremec manual 5 speed transmission with hydraulic clutch. Power front disc brakes were added for safety.
This 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 is an NHRA record holder. It was driven by Don Rice back in the day. You would have seen it racing at York 30 and Mason Dixon Dragway. It runs a 312 ci V8, 300 horsepower ‘F’ Code engine with a factory McCulluch Supercharger. They say the multiple trophies, helmet and jacket do go with the sale. The car was rebodied to preserve it the way it is today. This is a historic race car for a true race car collector. It is also a down home treasure for local Maryland natives.

"These cars look fantastic in black," says Chicago Car Club about this 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL. You can see it for yourself in the video feature above. Or click here to watch! You'll get to see it under direct sunlight where it's easy to see what makes this car special. The ad goes on to say that all gauges are functional, as are the windows. It's in good running condition with a nice underbody too! It's nicely sorted, and comes with the original window sticker.

It was supposed to be the last year of the Camaro for Chevrolet (we didn't know at the time about the 5th generation retro Camaro for 2009.) Everybody thought this 2002 Camaro SS 35th Anniversary Edition would be the last one, so they were born to be collectible. Someone really preserved this one. Just Toys Classic Cars in Orlando, Florida has it for sale this week. They tell us it has only 917 actual miles. Wow! You don't see that every day! We often talk about "future collectibles", and here is one in the flesh. It is the featured car in our Low Miles Section on the Cars-On-Line.com website this week. And there are more:

Some body work in the trunk and rockers is some of what is standing between this 1970 General Lee Charger and some serious potential. A 1936 Ford Gasser, actual vintage race car from back in the day, was offered for sale by an old time racer who is moving and can't take this one with him. His loss is your gain. He just reduced the price to $40,000 to facilitate a quick sale. (Price was $50,000.) The car was originally campaigned by the Proval Brothers in the late '60s under the name "TYRANT". The current owner purchased the coupe in 1997 and brought it back to life with a 350 SBC (fresh with only 12 passes), Powerglide and Ford 9", all professionally built. It runs 11's all day @150 mph. He says he'll consider trades.
Some people are getting very serious about selling. You'll find hundreds more PRICE REDUCED vehicles in the Price Reduced Feed today. Here are just a few to wet 'yer whistle:

Streetside Classics in Tampa, Florida has once again come up with a very special muscle car clone. This 1969 Boss 302 Mustang look-a-like has been reinvented in a modern coat of Tangelo Orange which looks much better than the original Grabber Orange would have. The 351 ci V8 with dual four-barrels comes complements this outrageous replica with a lot of attitude. This is the ultimate '69 Ford muscle car. Upgrades include the large front sway bar, Competition Engineering traction bars, newer bushings, and Wilwood drilled and slotted four-wheel disc brakes. Modern day street fighter meets legendary Boss provenance. The best of both worlds.
The following are recently listed Muscle Car Clones:
1968 Camaro Convertible, USA Hot Cars, Has RS/SS package, Red, 10-bolt rear
1965 Dodge Coronet from Taylor, MI, A990 replica, 528 Hemi, Red, Laser straight

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
Here is a 1969 Ford Torino GT Convertible which they say is in beautiful condition. According to Classic Car Deals out of Cadillac, Michigan, it is powered by a great running 351 engine and backed by a 3-speed manual transmission. They say it is straight and overall a solid car. It includes power brakes but no power steering. If you are looking for a solid Torino GT convertible, have this one inspected. It is said to have spent most of its life in Colorado and has only one repaint. They say it has the original 351 ci V8. Top and interior are said to be in great condition. Click this link to view a walk-around video and hear it run. At this price it will be our DEAL of the DAY for $17,900.
We've had quite a run of first generation Thunderbirds here in the DEAL of the DAY section of the newsletter in the past two months. This one may be the best one yet. You know what we always says, "If you find a first generation Thunderbird for under $30,000 ... buy it!" Here is a black 1956 Ford Thunderbird being offered for sale at Just Toys Classic Cars in Orlando, Florida. J.R. Smith, of Just Toys Classic Cars, tells us that this one has had an older body-on resteration with one repaint. The paint still shows very well for the age being that it was done about 20 years ago. "Under the hood sits the original engine and it purrs just like it should as soon as you hit the key. It is mated to the original transmission and rear end as well. It comes with power steering." It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday with an asking price of just $29,995. J.R. can get you financing for as little as $354 a month.
Big block muscle cars are all the rage in the collector car hobby these days. But when you have a big block in a Chevy Impala, well, that's just something real special. Here is a 1966 Chevy Impala SS 396 from Cool Cars, a collector car dealer out of Pompano Beach, Florida. Amazingly, they say this one still has its numbers matching big block engine. It comes with a black bucket seat interior with a console, power steering, power disc brakes and automatic transmission. Cool Cars tells us it will need some TLC to bring it up to quality driving standards. Be sure to have it inspected to find out what it may need, and what you are getting into. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on the front page of our website on Monday. (If it lasts that long.) The asking price is $19,995.
Shelby retro Mustang sports cars are among the most desirable cars in the current automotive economy. Since the Shelby Mustangs have re-emerged in 2006, the name Shelby has been renewed in the American popular culture lexicon. So it was a little surprising to see this 2007 Shelby GT come up in our New Listings this week. The private seller from Laurel, Mississippi tells us it remains very clean and well maintianed with only 34k miles. He says it still presents as new. In his words, it has "never been modified or abused. I have original window sticker with Shelby info. CSM # 07SGT2419. The car was verified and placed in Shelby Registry in May 2015." It has had vinyl stripes replaced with painted ones. It will be our DEAL of the DAY early next week. The price is only $19,500.
In between America's desire for the British made two-seater Triumph TR6 and the more expensive Jaguar E-Type Roadster, dealers in America saw room for a medium priced roadster to sooth our need for a sports car alternative. Enter the 1973 Jensen Healey Roadster with its 50/50 weight distribution, less than 2,400 lbs and an all-alloy 2.0L DOHC 16-valve Lotus 907 motor putting out 144hp. What a blast to drive! This one is being offered for sale this week at a very affordable price. The private seller Austin, Texas tells us it has been garage kept showing only 34k miles. He says it has new tires, brakes, shocks, carbs just rebuilt, excellent seats and rugs. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. I think you will agree that this is a lotta' car for $6,800.
Out of Pasadena, Texas comes a 1955 Studebaker Champion from a private seller. He says it runs great, and is very clean and describes its condition as "mint." That is quite a setup for a old car but, after all, it is a Studebaker. Few cars are as liked by Baby Boom collectors. This is a six cylinder car with overdrive, and is reported to have 67,300 miles on its odometer. The seller says it is OEM original inside and out. He does point out that it has new paint. It comes to the buyer with a parts manual and list of parts. This is one that you definitely should have inspected before you buy. Get a full portfolio of photos and have a disinterested third party evaluation on the condition class. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY this week. The asking price is only $10,350.
What a sweet find! This week a 1926 Ford Model T Touring car was listed by a private seller in Portales, New Mexico. Man, can you imagine this car living in that dry desert environment? Makes your mouth water, doesn't it? The seller says it is in "mint condition," and runs great as well. The seller writes about a red metallic exterior with a black leather interior. That's right! He says all leather seats. It is equipped with a four cylinder engine and manual transmission. He says it has low miles. Some one please order an inspection on this one. We can't wait to see it up close. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this week. The asking price is only $9,000.
