For a long time first generation Pontiac Firebirds and comedian Rodney Dangerfield had a lot in common. They "just couldn't get no respect." In the collector car community they were left in the dusty wake of their cousins the Chevrolet Camaros. At least, that was true until recently.
Our newsletter readers know we've been tauting a comeback for first generation Pontiac Firebirds for a while 
now. But remember, not all first generation Firebirds were made equal. If you were to find a 1967-69 Firebird Convertible with the Ram Air 400 V8 engine and a hood tach ... I mean that would be the cat's whiskers. Or if you found a 400 HO ... wow! They are hard to find. But if you found either of those with a Muncie 4-speed to hook it up, well, you might have just found the perfect investment. You can check our most recent Market Trends Report to see how the 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible with RA 400 has gone up in value over the years. Just four years ago you could buy first generation Firebird convertibles for $18,000 to $22,000 in driver quality condition. Today the same car in Number Three condition sells for up to $45,000. Some sellers want to push the envelope higher. We're even seeing Firebird convertibles with the 350 small blocks coming up in value.
Think about it. They put a Ram Air II 400 motor in a car the size of a Firebird or Camaro? ... a car that weighed only 3,575 pounds to begin with? That's 330 base horsepower in a sports car not much bigger than a large 
compact car in its day. It was way more power than the Camaro Z/28 had, even though the Z/28 may have been quicker and better handling.
Check out the Pontiac Muscle Cars below in the new listings. I counted four Firebird convertibles this week alone. Usually we're lucky to have even one of these rare convertibles for sale. They are that hard to find. Then look at the Pontiac Musle Car Section on our website. You'll notice that most of the 1967-69 Firebird convertibles are all sold. If you are a Pontiac enthusiast, catch this trend before it passes you bye. Get one while you can for under $50,000. Remember how prices on first generation Camaro Z/28's took off in the 1990's?

Our photo-journalists, Bob and Donna Boberg of eClassicAutos.com were on hand to capture the pomp and circumstance of one of the most elegant concours in the U.S. Bob said it rivals Pebble Beach and Meadowbrook in its ability to draw museum quality cars so rare you just don't see them anyplace but here on Amelia Island each year. Note the 1937 Delahaye 145 owned by Emily and Sam Mann of Englewood, New Jersey which won the People's Choice Award this past weekend at Amelia Island. For the second month in a row, Dodge Chargers have captured the attention of internet buyers. The Mopar muscle car continued to lead our “Top Ten Most Popular� list for muscle cars, claiming 23.2 percent of internet searches (See our Mopar Section). Each month Cars On Line staff analyzes statistics from Google and Bing search engines in order to understand consumer trends. Corvettes grabbed second place with 17.3 percent of internet searches. Meanwhile Camaros were not far behind in third with 16.1 percent of searches. View the Top Ten Muscle Cars below.

Once again Chevrolet has taken the lead on our “Top Ten Most Popular� list for classic cars, grabbing 40.7 percent of internet searches within the last 30 days (See our Chevrolet Section). The Impala continued to be the vehicle driving the most interest as it made up 36 percent of searches. Remaining steady in second place was former long-time leader Ford with 15.2 percent of searches. You’ll notice there are some familiar names back on the Top Ten list this month, including Rolls Royce and Packard.

Oh, man, remember when these cars were introduced as new cars in the early 1970's? It was like Christmas for drag racers. They made us a factory race car of some degree of sophistication. Now in 2017 they still are exciting. Gateway Classic Cars just posted this 1975 Chevy Cosworth Vega for sale out of their Chicago, Illinois store. Think about it! A race ready 2.0L DOHC inline 4 cylinder aluminum engine connected to a responsive 5-speed manual transmission and a steep 3.73 gear ratio making for a sporty feel. Any car made in 1940 becomes a very important collector car for the hobbyist. It was a pivotal year for the new car market as more and more Americans were driving and paying attention to style and convenience in their transportation choices. Here is a 1940 Buick Special with the great Straight 8 Buick motor. Hot rodders would soon be extolling the virtues of the Buick Straight 8 engine. "Faster than a Ford," they would say. The first time Buick used the monicker "Riviera" for one of their cars was in 1956 when they came out with the 1956 Buick Super Riviera model. The one you see here would be considered a 4-Door Hardtop today. It is being offered for sale by Top Notch Vehicles in Jefferson, Wisconsin. They say it runs and drives well but needs some TLC. In Volkswagens last years producing the Beetle for the American market it produced some of its best cars. This 1978 VW Super Beetle Convertible built by Karmann Ghia is a great example. The private seller from York, Pennsylvania says it has a very solid underside, no rust or rot, and the top is not torn. He claims it is all original except for the cool Porsche wheels. He says, "I just installed a new Bosch fuel pump and new fuel filter and a new Bosch fuel pump relay. Gas tank has been cooked out/cleaned and resealed." The demand for these Beetle bodied Volkswagens seems to be growing. Be sure to have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. The asking price on this very desirable Super Beetle model is $8,900!

As the muscle car market declined in the mid-1970's, there were fewer choices for performance buyers. Chevrolet came out with the IROC version of the Z/28 to honor the IROC racing circuit in the 1980's. This 1988 Camaro IROC-Z is priced right for a collector right now. This is not a factory original type car. No, it's way more. This IROC is built to the hilt. The California seller says it has a rebuilt 350 .30 over P.A.W. block kit professionally assembled with 425 horsepower, Keith Black pistons 9.5 to 1 compression line honed; Comp cam w/1.6 comp roller rockers lift; 484 Rhoads variable duration lifters; World Sportsman II heads, port matched w/intake; Edelbrock TPI base manifold, SLP intake runners; Ported Plenum, adj. fuel pressure regulator, 24lb injectors.
