They say only 47 of these 1942 Hudson Big Boy Cab trucks were built before the factory was converted to an aircraft plant for World War II. As of the last counting, there were only seven 1942 pickup trucks listed in the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club register. Being that this one is a 1942, it may be one of the most desirable Hudson Big Boys still in existence.
Classic AutoSmith out of Marietta, Georgia posted this 1942 Hudson Big Boy Cab Pickup for sale yesterday. It is sure to cause a stir in the H-E-T community. Finished in Strawberry Red with Tan Leather interior, they say the Big Boy underwent a comprehensive ground-up, body-off-chassis, nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration. They tell us, "It displays outstanding panel fit, superior paintwork, bright work and an interior trim finish second to none. With its intricate grille, a pair of period correct amber fog lights, running lights on the fenders, Hudson triangle motif accent lights on the hood, steel wheels, dog-dish hubcaps, beauty rings, wide-whitewall tires and the rear bed trunk mounted to the high gloss oak bed floor makes a visual statement of gentlemanly sophistication and grace."
The Hudson Big Boy name is associated with the 3/4-ton version Hudson pickup. The Big Boy has a 128-inch wheelbase and a huge bed measuring 4'9" x 7'9". The Big Boy Cab interior is said to have an art deco look throughout the dash and steering wheel. Note the transmission gear selector, center dash Zenith 6-tube radio, original clock in the glove box, Weather Master heater, push button start, lights and original restored gauges, all in perfect working order.
Under the hood they decided to go with the famous NASCAR 1954 Hudson Twin H-Power engine, one of the most desirable engines of the period. It has the straight six, L Head, 308 cubic inch, 170 horsepower mill with a factory dual carburetor setup that utilizes twin Carter WA1-barrel carburetors. It also has the Hudson-Gm HydraMatic 3-speed automatic transmission and dual exhaust.
One of the first female automotive designers in Detroit was Elizabeth Ann Thatcher. She worked for Hudson untill 1941 and may have had a hand in the design of this Big Boy Cab. The "nose-low" stance and elegant chrome and trim with full front grille may have been her handywork.
We see a few 1946 and 1947 Hudson Big Boys around, and once had an advertiser list a 1939; but never before have we seen a 1942 model Hudson Big Boy Cab Pickup like this one. It could be the one truly rare vehicle you need to be the centerpiece of your collection.

What makes Cars-On-Line.com so successful? You'll find the answer in the comments of our advertisers. "Your service is great," said a seller from Troy, Michigan this week. "Received many inquiries upon many hits on my ad and SOLD relatively quickly to a West Coast buyer. Will use Cars On Line again!" This happy customer found his 1965 Shelby Factory 5 Cobra a new home using our Run Till Sold Ad. No wonder he sold so fast, with that show quality paint job. Now he knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell through Cars On Line." To view more vehicles marked SOLD Thru Cars On Line this week, click this link.

How do you define "rare?" Try this definition. This is a 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 428CJ Convertible, one of one, in factory correct Competition Blue paint and a black interior. Show Your Auto.com is selling this 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 428CJ Convertible for one of their clients. They say it came from a private museum quality collection. Only two 428CJ convertibles were produced in the Competition Blue color with a 4-speed, and this one is the only one with the black interior. They tell us it is in near No. 1 Trailer Queen type condition. For the discrete muscle car collector, this is the find of a lifetime.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY front page feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
Built to be a show car back in the 1990's, now this 1970 Chevy Nova Pro Street is our featured DEAL of the DAY for Saturday. The seller from Saint Clair, Michigan tells us it now shows some minor aging, but is still in exceptional show quality condition. Only your inspection will tell you for sure. But consider that this Nova has a built 427 ci big block motor with a Turbo 400. It comes fully tubbed, back halfed with 4-link. He says the interior has an 8-pt cage, very easy to get in and out of, Pontiac Fiero seats, B&M shifter and Grant steering wheel. The wheels are custom with Mickey Thompson tred. What is really intriguing about this car is the price. We will highlight it on our front page tomorrow in our DEAL of the DAY feature because the price is only $18,500. Remember, you saw it here first.
To a new car buyer in 1954 a plexiglass roof seemed almost space age; even other worldly. That is the effect this 1954 Ford Crestline Skyliner has still today. This 1954 Ford Crestline Skyliner has some period correct aftermarket extras to jazz it up. It was all pretty tastefully done however and adds to, rather than detracts from, the car. For instance the paint scheme is not factory correct, it has a Continental kit and it seems to have a plexiglass see through hood in addition to the plexiglass roof. It like the chrome Moonies as well. There is more to this one than meets to eye. We can't believe the seller will let it go for just $18,900. Hurry! It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday.
Sometimes a car is way more than meets the eye. That is the case here with this 1972 Corvette Coupe offered for sale by a private collector from Boxford, Massachusetts. He tells us every bushing has been replaced in rebuilding this Corvette. He indicates that all parts were replaced with factory replacement parts. He says the frame was completely restored with new shocks, springs, brake rotors s/s calipers, brake lines hard and soft, fuel lines, all new front end, 2 1/2" exhaust and power steering rebuilt. For a list of the replacement parts click the photo to go to the ad page. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday if it lasts that long. The asking price is only $24,900.
A Mauston, Wisconsin collector just reduced the price on his old school restored 1940 Ford Deluxe Tudor. When we saw what a value it is we just had to promote it here. You may want to have the phone in your hand as you read this. You won't believe the car you can buy here for pocket change. See the modern built '46 Ford 239 ci Flathead with Offenhauser manifold and heads, 2 Stomberg stacks, Isky cam, T-5 5-speed overdrive transmission, hydraulic clutch, new Walker brass radiator, adjustable cooling fan with thermostat, Red's headers and dual exhaust. He says it also has a fully boxed frame with 2" drop front solid axle, front disc brakes, 9" Ford rear end, new leaf springs, shocks and more. Just look a the photos and you will be amazed. 'Cause now the price has been reduced to just $19,500. Of course, it will be our DEAL of the DAY this coming week ... if it lasts that long.
I've been watching this 1971 GMC 2500 Pickup in the You Tube video provided by Masterpiece Vintage Cars in Whiteland, Indiana. They do a really nice job of photographing their cars and trucks. It is in their video that you get a good look at the detail. The video does a good job of showing you that this is a driver quality pickup. Note the condition of the bed. I'd have it inspected because it looks pretty straight and solid. However you never know until you get that inspection report whether it really is as good as it looks. This one is priced as a No. 3 condition driver class truck. But if it is as straight as it looks in the photos there is potential here. It is going to be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the price is right. They are asking $14,900.
You are looking at the lowest priced mid-year Thunderbird on our website. It is a 1966 Ford Thunderbird being offered for sale by a private collector from Mission, Texas. He says the car has every option except cruise control (which he added as aftermarket.) He indicates that it had been an original California car with 69k miles on it now. He says it has had three owners and still has no rust. You can tell by the photos that it is in drive quality condition. He says everything works and you can drive it anywhere with confidence. He also says it does not leak any oil. Sounds interesting. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is $14,900.
We all know how popular the 1970's Trans Ams are among collectors today. Here is a play on that trend. It is a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 with all the top equipment of the Trans Am cars but without the price. It is one of only 346 such Formula 400's built with W72 400 ci V8, a 4-speed transmission and the famous WS6 suspension package. The seller from Saint Clair, Michigan says it has just 64,810 original miles. He says it is a numbers matching 6.6L 400 ci engine with some modifications over the years. Although he says the floors and frame are clean and solid, the Carmine red interior is still mostly original with some cracks in the dash and some minor fading in the upholstery. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late in the week with an asking price of $15,000.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
