On June 24, 1969, Josephine Gresko drove her 1964 4-speed Impala into Yenko Chevrolet in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to trade in on a new performance car. She left with the COPO 1969 Yenko Chevelle super car you see here (above.) Painted Fathom Green with White SYC graphics and emblems, this is only a two-owner vehicle, having been traded into Bill Keith Auto Sales in Wexford, Pennsylvania, in 1976, where the current owner’s parents bought it for him as he was too young to sign the paperwork.
Today Eric's Muscle Cars in Maryland is offering the opportunity of a lifetime for some lucky muscle car collector to own a real double COPO Yenko Chevelle. Built in Baltimore, this COPO 9562 was well-optioned to be sold directly by Yenko. One major factor in the car’s curbside appeal is the 15×7-inch COPO Chevelle Rally wheels and special Goodyear Polyglas F70-15 tires. These were part of a second COPO code, 9737 Sports Car Conversion, which Yenko often used. This also put the correct speedometer pinion and a larger front stabilizer bar into the car.
Eric Grandi, of Eric's Muscle Cars, tells us the L72 427/425 HP big-block engine is numbers-matching, and it is backed by a Hurst-shifted M21 close-ratio 4-speed. Yenko also installed a Stewart-Warner tach. It came equipped with power front disc brakes, and a 4.10:1 rear gear. This particular car came with a bench seat and cloth interior, not often seen with the 4-speed package. It also came with a heavy duty front sway bar and heavy duty 4-core radiator.
Of the 350 or so COPO 427 Chevelles produced by Chevrolet in 1969, Don Yenko ordered 99 of them. Every one of them that is still in existence today is a highly valued classic muscle car. Don Yenko might have fudged the horsepower numbers a bit on these big block Chevelle Super Cars to fool the insurance companies. They were mostly meant for the track anyway. Car and Driver Magazine got a hold of one of his Camaros and they stated that in their tests the car achieved a 0-60 time in only 3.4 seconds, and a 1/4-mile time shy of 12 seconds. They were monster performers on the track. All the Yenko editions came with a special interior and Yenko decal kit.
They say a complete nut-and-bolt restoration was done on this one in 2013. The sale includes the Gresko order form which was hand-written at Yenko, a GM shipping report on the car, and the Yenko car invoice.
Although once overshadowed by their sibling Camaros, real COPO Chevelles are now hot commodities on the collector market. But few have a background as interesting and documented as this one.

Race car driver Ken Miles set a record in a 1967 Shelby 427 Cobra which has never been duplicated. His Shelby 427 Cobra went from a dead stop to 100 mph and then to a dead stop again in just 13.8 seconds. The 427 Cobra utilized an all-independent coil-spring suspension with a large-diameter steel tube frame. Four-wheel disc brakes helped also. The 427's alumiumb body formed over lightweight steel-tube formers and provided a tremendous power-to-weight ratio. This week, Auctions America listed a 1967 Shelby 427 Cobra to be offered to the highest bidder at their upcoming Hilton Head Island Auction during the Hilton Head Island Concours. Will it bring $1 million?

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY section on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
There is a really nice price on a 1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS today. We are excited to have it in the DEAL of the DAY feature for Saturday. Gateway Classic Cars tells us this El Camino is a true SS396 car. However about 1,500 miles ago, the old 396 was replaced with a fresh 383 Stroker V8 crate engine. It is available at their Louisville, Kentucky store. They say it is in good shape and takes a good photos. They also disclose that it is showing some signs of wear. Take a look at their interesting walk-around video at this link. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The The price is $18,595.
American Classics & Hot Rods is a name our readers have been seeing a lot lately. They are coming on strong in the collector car market as a classic car dealer with very interesting inventory and multiple locations in the Western and Midwestern U.S. Today they posted a 1955 Dodge Coronet, a classic '50s car that has quite a following in the collector car market. It is located at their Newberg, Oregon location. The iconic Black and Salmon colored paint job is typical Mopar for this period. It also comes with a 230 ci V8 engine and a 2-speed automatic transmission on the console. This is a rare classic to find. Don't forget to have it inspected before you buy. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday as the price is very affordable. They say it has been reduced to below $24,900.
A private seller from Nashville, Indiana posted his 1951 Ford F1 Pickup for sale this week. We consider this classic pickup truck as a resto rod -- looks very original from the outside, but has a 289 V8 and a C-4 transmission, disc brakes, new radiator, gas tank. The engine has about 35k miles on it, according to the ad. The seller says it runs and drives well, and comes with Flowmaster mufflers that really make it sound good. He says it is not a show truck but sure gets a lot of attention at the shows. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday because the asking price is $14,950. Now that is affordable.
A private seller from Waukesha, Wisconsin has a special classic Corvette for sale. He says it is mostly original with a 350/300 hp engine, 4-speed transmission and comes with a build sheet. With just over 86,000 miles, it was specially factory ordered with Daytona Yellow paint and Saddle interior which is reflected on the build sheet. The orange striping was added for effect. It is kind of an '80s look. There is some rust described in the ad. Be sure to have it inspected before you buy. Other options include power steering, headrests, and AM/FM. He says it has a very nice, straight fiberglass body. It could be a great "fixer upper" for a Corvette guy. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price in the ad is $16,500.
This will put a sparkle in Grandpa's eyes. A 1927 Chevrolet Capitol was posted for sale this week by a private seller from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. This sharp looking Chevrolet coupe was their answer to Ford's dominance of the market back then. The seller states that the "Body is sound." "Interior is nicely done" and has "lots of cool features." They say the paint is cracked and in need of help. Do we have an inspector in Saskatchewan? Check it out. This could be an easy winter project if it looks as good as in the pictures. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week as the price is really right ... at $12,999.
This one is a bit of a project for restoration, but well worth the effort if you are a Mopar guy. The 1966 Dodge Charger is being offered by Unique Specialty & Classics out of Mankato, Minnesota. 1966 was the first year for the Charger. The aerodynamic fastback look was stunning for its time. The automotive world was abuzz with wonderment over this offering from Dodge. Take a look at the photos. The driver's side looks as though it needs some work. You really want to have it inspected to see if it will be suitable for a restoration. It will be our DEAL of the DAY with a price of $18,900.
Even among BMW owners the performance capabilities of the 1998 BMW M3 are under-appreciated. When you get into this one you'll think you are the Transporter, Jason Strathom, with action looming at every turn. Streetside Classics has this one at their Tampa, Florida location. It is unheard of to find one like this for under $10,000. They sy it is "a mix of the stealthy 3-Series design but with a bodykit, and bumpers that give it a much more muscular stance. Of course the factory-correct Estoril Blue Metallic draws in plenty of attention all on its own." It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with a listing price of $8,995. Call now!
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
