Here we are in the midst of the Car
Show season. This is what collectors live for. Take advantage
of it now, the season will be over all too soon. Did you ever
notice the smiles your old car brings to the people who attend
car shows? You never know who's life you're gonna' enrich by
showing off your car ... maybe even your own.
GTOs AND FIREBIRDs ARE
HOT
We like to keep newsletter readers
up to date on what the current trends are in the collector car
market. Our newsletter readers know that Camaros are the most
popular muscle cars and the ones most sought after. That has
not changed. But we've noticed recently that Pontiac GTOs, Pontiac
Firebirds and Ford Torinos have advanced among our Top Ten of
most sought after cars. The Ford Torinos have cracked the Top
Ten for the first time this year. Below is the chart of what
was hot in the collector car market in June, according to Google
and Yahoo search engine statistics. The chart shows what percentage
of buyers are looking for specific makes and models of collector
cars.

NEW CAR SALES DOWN IN JUNE
New car sales continued to drop
to dismal levels in June 2009. The figures are just out and Passenger
Car Sales are down 34 percent from June of 2008. One thing to
note, however, is that import cars are doing worse than domestic
American cars. Import car sales are down 36.6 percent from a
year ago, while American domestic car sales are down 32.7 percent.
Breaking it down by American automaker:
Chrysler is down 44 percent
GM is down 36 percent
Ford is down 13.6 percent
Foreign automaker Isuzu is getting creamed. It's sales are down
85 percent from last year. Toyota sales in the U.S. were down
37.9 percent, Honda down 33.5 percent and Nissan was down 33.4
percent. Of the German automakers, Volkswagen did the best in
June. Their sales had only dropped 16 percent in North America.
Autoline reports that 60 percent of Volkswagen's sales in June
were diesel vehicles. The statistics noted here are from Wards
Auto.com, the best source of auto industry
news.
CAR SHOW CALENDAR
Summer is on! And the car show season is in full swing. There
is something big coming up every weekend in July. The Buick Club
of America Nationals started Tuesday in Colorado. We were at
this show last year. It is worth attending. It ends this weekend.
See the Car
Show Calendar for more info. You'll
find the postings for car shows, swap meets, auctions and cruises
in your area ... the ones you just can't afford to miss.
Newletter readers should mark their
calendars for the Iola Car Show in Iola, Wisconsin, home of Old
Cars Weekly, the collector car hobby's leading newspaper. We'll
see you there July 9-12, 2009. They expect about 4,400 swap meet
vendors, 2500 show cars, over 1,000 cars for sale in the car
corral and a collector car auction sale by VanDerBrink Auctions.
BLOOMINGTON GOLD CORVETTES
Although spectator traffic was
down for the show this year, the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show
2009 was an intense Corvette experience, the one you can't miss
if you are a Corvette enthusiast. For a review of last weekend's
events click
here to view our report from the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show. Another aspect of the Bloomington Gold Corvette
Show is the important Mecum Auction. The Mecum
Corvette Auction is the centerpiece
of the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show. We watch the prices at
the Mecum Auction as a benchmark for understanding what Corvette
values are doing ... are they going up or going down? This Mecum
Corvette sale is an important indicator. Click
here for a wrapup and results of the Mecum Corvette Auction at
Bloomington.
WELCOME A NEW DEALER
You'll be reading a lot about
a Florida classic car dealer, the Corvette Experience,
well known by Corvette lovers in Florida, which now has expanded
their inventory to offer a variety of classic cars for sale.
Corvette Experience from Fort Lauderdale has just joined
the Cars On Line dealer network. You'll be seeing a lot of their
inventory being offered on our New
Listings page today.
Florida collectors know them as the
place to go for quality classic Corvettes. For instance, yesterday
they posted this Marina blue 1967
Corvette Big Block Coupe which
they say is a top quality NCRS Top Flight award winner. This
is a 427/390 hp car with a 4-speed and rare California smog air
pump. They say it came with power steering, power brakes, power
windows and side exhaust. It has a black stinger hood, bright
blue interior and Red Line tires. It is a prime example of the
nice Corvettes that they offer at Corvette Experience.
Click
this link to take a look at about 30 fresh listings from Corvette
Experience.
LOW MILES CARS
Fastlane Classic Cars in the St Louis area has listed
a 1989
Pontiac Trans Am 20th Anniversary Edition (shown above left)
which they say has only 4,933 actual miles. This is one of the
Trans Ams with the Turbo Intercooled 3.8L V6 engines, very fast.
A 1987 Buick
Grand National has been listed for sale by a collector from
Land 'O Lakes, Florida. The seller says this Grand National has
just 36k miles on it, and yet everything works.
Also see these low miles cars in the New Listings: You'll find hundreds more amazing low-mile treasures
in our Low
Miles Section which is devoted solely to collector cars with
pampered histories.
PROJECT CARS
Our Project
Car Section continues to be one of
the most popular destinations of buyers on our website. It is
incredible to ponder how many project cars are being sold these
days. I didn't know there were that many Americans with this
kind of ambition. You mean they're not waiting for the government
to do it? The 1933
Ford 5-Window Coupe (above left) is
the most interesting. They say it is all steel with a rumble
seat. A 1968
Pontiac Firebird (shown above center)
from Altamont, Kansas is quite a find. The seller says he has
the #s matching 400 ci V8 and #s matching Muncie 4-speed transmission,
plus PHS docs and window sticker. The 1935
Ford Pickup (above right) is from Centre
Hall, Pennsylvania. With a '40 Ford front end, it was probably
intended to be an old school custom.
And there's more:
In looking for a project car to restore,
make sure you watch our New
Listings page for daily updates. Or
you can find hundreds of project cars for sale now in the Cars
On Line Project
Car Section online.
PRICE CHANGES LISTINGS
Our European readers will have
the best shot at this one. A collector from Rengsjo, Sweden
had listed his beautiful 1954
Cadillac Series 62 Convertible show
car for sale on our website. He tells us that this is a frame-off
restoration finished in 1999, and that the car is all original
and runs like new. He was originally asking $89,000 in U.S. funds
for the car. A couple days ago he contacted us and asked us to
lower the price to $69,000. The last car that this collector
sold through our website went to a European buyer. Unfortunately
we do not currently have inspection service coverage in Sweden.
Be sure to check the Price
Changes page daily or whevever you

Listings page. Both have "need
to know" information for the smart buyer.

ROCK 'N ROLL 50's CLASSICS ...
 |
It would be hard to find a 1959
Ford Fairlane Convertible like this black one offered for

They say the car is road worthy, powered by a 312 V8 with a Ford
Cruise-O-Matic transmission. |
 |
An interesting 1957
Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible has been listed for sale by
Cool Cars of Pompano Beach, Florida. They say it was originally
a fuelie car but was changed to a 4-barrel. The Rochester Fuel

aspiration. They say this car has undergone a frame off restoration. |

The 1956

I'll always remember the burnouts from these
1969 1/2 Mopar A12 cars when they were warming up their tires
at the track. Here is a 1969
1/2 Dodge Super Bee from Lenoir, North Carolina. The seller says it is a frame off restoration. |

A rare 1970
Dodge Challenger RT/SE has been listed by a Wisconsin man.

It features a classic look that pegs it to the '50s, and sports
a Ford Thunderbird 312 V8 motor. See more in the Boat

CLASSIC AMERICAN ICONS ...
 |
It's pretty hard to find a 1947
Chrysler Windsor Convertible like this one in this kind of
condition. It comes from a collection in Florida. The owner says
it is an older restoration and comes with spotlights and foglights.
It sure looks good in the photos. |
 |
From the same collection comes this 1948
Buick Super Convertible which is also said to be an older
restoration in great condition. The seller says it drives great,
has a canvas top, leather interior and power windows. He says
it is located in Miami. |
 |
A special show car from day "one,"
this 1933 Cadillac
LaSalle 345 C was finished in a special paint color for promoting
Cadillac in Chicago. The current Georgia seller says this car
has had a body off the frame restoration with all parts either
replaced as NOS or rebuilt. |
|
The same seller from Georgia also is offering
a 1931 Cadillac
LaSalle 5-Passenger Coupe. He says it is one of only 850
produced that year and while only about 30 exist today. The paint
scheme is very special. See

AFFORDABLE EXOTIC ...

Chrysler for some years has been playing with
bringing the sports car market an affordable exotic car. They
had a pretty good idea when they introduced this 1992
Dodge Stealth R/T Twin Turbo offered for sale from Owatonna,
Minnesota. They say it has been upgraded to over 400 hp. See
more in the Exotic
Car Section. |
STREET RODS FOR SALE ...

Classical Gas Motors
in Texas has done it again. This 1935
Ford Coupe is of such high quality that we had to feature
it here. Yet, they say this car was just built and has never
been shown. Click the link in the ad that says "More Information"
for a list of equipment. |
 |
Classical Gas has
also listed a 1933
Desoto Sedan that has such a great stance and paint that
you'll want to pour over the photos. I hope you get a chance
to here the great sound of the 365 ci V8 with mild street cam.
It has a Turbo 400 transmission mated to the Nova rear end with
cruising gears. |
 |
Here is a rare one from Gateway Classic Cars
in Charlotte. They listed a 1939
Studebaker Champion street rod with Fatman front end. It
is an all steel car, and the paint is by House of Kolor, they
say. It has a 355 ci engine, 4-bolt main, with a manual 4-speed,
10-bolt rear end and 3.42 gears. |

A private seller in Sebastian, Florida posted

BLAZER SURVIVOR ...

Even back in '72 we knew what a revolution this
1972 Chevy Blazer
K5 4X4 represented. They say it still has a one-owner title,
and came with power steering, power disc brakes, factory tach
and gauges, tilt wheel and air. See more for sale in the Sport Utility Section. |
CLASSIC CUSTOMS ...
 |
You don't often see an Oldsmobile done like a
lead sled. This scalloped 1953
Oldsmobile Sedan has been chopped and shaved. Dummy spots,
skirts, Lake pipes and frenched lights are a nice touch. It has
been converted to 12-volt system. |
 |
I really want to see more photos of the interior
on this 1946
Ford Panel Truck that was just listed by Classical Gas
Motors in Texas. They say it has a Mustang II front end,
Ford GT40 302, Sanderson headers, and the interior is done pretty
nicely. |
 |
A sharp 1955

ATTACK OF THE CLONES ...
 |
Some real dedication went into building this
1970 Corvette
Baldwin Motion recreation from Waldorf, Maryland. The seller
says there are only 14k actual miles on this car, and that it
was all built with actual Motion parts. |

1972 Dodge Charger

DEAL OF THE DAY
Another good selection cars
exists here today in our DEAL
of the DAY preview. In the DEAL of the DAY
preview we give newsletter readers first chance at the best deals
among the fresh ads on our website. Then during the week you'll
see these cars featured on the home page of our website in the
DEAL of the DAY graphic that looks like a "rear view mirror."
I'm pretty excited about this DEAL
of the DAY. This 1973
Camaro Z/28 is listed as a numbers matching car by the seller
from Hudson, Florida. That includes a numbers
matching 350 motor, M-21 4-speed transmission, posi rear end.
He says it is a true Z/28 and seems to be all original. He ads
that is has a nice AM/FM radio with 8-track, clock and rear defogger.
The car really looks good in the photos and is so reasonably
priced that it will be our featured DEAL
of the DAY on the homepage of
Cars On Line.com on Saturday. The asking price is $15,000!
Hu-r-r-r-r-ry!!! Hu-r-r-r-r-ry!!! Hu-r-r-r-r-ry!!!
'55 Chevy Bel Airs have a look all their own, but the stance
of this 1955
Bel Air Hardtop from Nothern Illinois is enhanced by some tweaks that
make it a stunning classic custom. The chrome and paint really
set this car off. The seller says it has front disc brakes with
dual boosters, Hedman headers, Flowmasters, Chevy Rally wheels
and a 355 Chevy 4-bolt motor with less than 1,000 miles on it.
It will be our DEAL of the DAY
on Sunday. You may not find another one like this for the price.
He's only asking $15,400.
Ever notice how some things just start looking better to you
the older they get? Twenty years ago I'd see and old Harley FLH
and I'd think "it's
an old bike." Today you look at this 1975
Harley-Davidson FLH from Brooksville, Florida and you think,
"That old bike is lookin' good." It has the classic
stock look with a custom Fishtail exhaust, fresh white wall tires,
and much more. The seller says it has new brakes, starter, battery,
new gears, chain and clutch and nickel self-lubing chain. It
will be our DEAL of the DAY
next week. Are you sitting down? ... the asking price is just
$9,900!!!
Don't forget! Have these cars inspected
before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's
nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See
the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html
The seller of this car from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is
up front about it needing some TLC. But it sure looks good in
the photos, doesn't it. This one might be the one
to have inspected. It is a 1951
Hudson Pacemaker, an original 6-cylinder manual transmission
car which he describes as a driver. He says it starts and runs
everytime, and indicates that it is popular at local shows. He
says it has a rebuilt motor, clutch, brakes and more. The ad
lists it as having 64,000 miles, and says it is very clean and
has been stored inside during winters. This car will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because
the asking price is only $9,999.
A 1967 Oldsmobile
4-4-2 has been listed by a collector from Garnerville, Nevada.
This car looks like it is priced way below the average price
for these cars. The seller says
it was completely restored in 2000, but the owner decided to
swap out the original 400 for a 455 .030 with a W-30 cam. I'd
say that makes it better, but not as original. He says the Turbo
400 transmission has less than 1,000 miles on it and that the
rear end has been rebuilt. It has Sikkens base/clear paint. It
sounds to me that this is a car you'd not want to pass up. Be
sure to check it out. It looks so sharp in the photos that we
will make it our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is $13,950.
If you are a street rodder looking for a starter car you have
to check out this 1932
Ford Roadster from Eagle, Wisconsin. This car is way more
than a starter car although
it is priced like a starter car. First of all it was pro built
and has only 7k miles since the build. The seller says it has
a 4" dropped I-Beam front axle w/disc brakes, Pete and Jakes
coil over shocks, 350 Chevy small block w/ 350 transmission,
8" Ford rear end, Walker radiator, Mallory Unilite distributor,
tilt wheel w/ Banjo steering wheel and a chrome engine dress-up
kit. I think you'll have to agree ... this is a lotta car for
the money. It will be our DEAL of the
DAY next week with an asking price of $28,000.
Don't forget! Have these cars inspected
before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's
nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See
the Cars On Line Inspection Service page at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html
When I saw this listing I thought of a person I just met at
a show this weekend who said he was looking for one of these.
I hope he's reading the newsletter today. Although
it looks like it is still in primer, the 1951
Studebaker Pickup truck offered for sale from Hiwasse, Arkansas
is such a solid looking truck that we were surprised it was being
offered at this price. It is a mild custom truck. It has a Volare
front-end, 9-inch Ford rear, 350 Chevy small block, 350 turbo
transmission, heat and air conditioning, plus tilt steering wheel.
It might be one of those diamonds in the rough, but you should
be careful and have it inspected before you buy. Having said
that, it will be our DEAL of the DAY
because the asking price is just $7,995. That price will only
get you a full out project in some parts of the world.
There really were so many more cars that deserved to be included
in this week's DEAL of the DAY
feature. Often there are more cars than we can feature on our
front page every week. Here is a list of cars that just missed
the cut for the DEAL of the DAY
feature. Remember, you saw them here first:
