By World War II the Packard Motor Car Company in Detroit, Michigan was so well respected that even the highly pinnacled Rolls Royce purchased services from them. In fact, the Packard 1928 Packard 526 Roadsterdesign for Rolls Royce's Merlin engine powered airplanes and PT boats during the war. Packard's production numbers from 1927 through 1934 continued to increase, and Packard was considered the best automaker in the U.S.

Although there were 28,336 of these convertibles produced in 1928, the 1928 Packard 526 Roadster currently being sold at Classic Auto Showplace in Troy, Michigan, is extremely rare in today's classic car marketplace. Back in the day it was known as a Runabout. The wheelbase is 126 inches and they were powered by a Straight Six cylinder engine (very clean if you check the photos) said to have 289 cubic inches of displacement. It is considered an L-head motor. This one looks very clean in the photos. Below is a video of this car as seen at the Classic Auto Showplace facility.

Classic Auto Showplace tells us this 1928 Packard 526 Roadster was invited to the prestigious Meadowbrook Concour De Elegance in 2006 and was proudly displayed by its current owner. We understand that the restoration was completed in the late 90's and that it has enjoyed only a couple of thousand miles on the road since. This Packard has been properly stored in a climate controlled facility with a multiple car collection. The deep blue finish is nicely complemented with creme colored top with blue piping.

According to our recent Google and Bing search engine analysis (see story below), Packards are very much sought after in this current collector car market.

IN THE NEWS ...

In the ever evolving collector car market collector preferences are always changing. We were not surprised to find out that in the past month more collectors were searching for Pontiac GTOs than any other collector car, but we were surpised at how GTO buyers are dominating the market right now. A full 20 percent of all buyers using Google and Bing search engines were looking for GTOs. Our numbers show that 14.6 percent of buyers were looking for Corvettes and 10 percent looking for Camaros. Newsletter readers know that first generation Camaros have been the most popular in our surveys for many years. It is only in the past year that we have been seeing so much appreciation for GTOs. Here is the breakout on the Top Ten Most Popular Classic Cars (only pre-'60s cars included), and the Top Ten Most Popular Muscle Cars.

The leader among classic pre-1960 cars is Ford. Our records show that 3 percent of all buyers were looking for Model A Fords. Up until this month, the most popular Ford was the Ford F100, which is now in second place. The most popular Chevrolet is the 1957 Chevy (no surprise.) Ten percent of all buyers looking for Studebakers were looking for an Avanti.

For many years collectors have been "voting" for our Top Ten lists with their mouse clicks on search engines as they shop for their most desired vehicles. The chart above uses a sampling of the classic auto shoppers using the Google and Bing search engines to forecast internet buyer preferences.

In the past month we have seen a record level of traffic on the Cars On Line.com website. In fact, for much of the beginning of February we were seeing over a million page views a day. January marked the first time we have ever broke the million-a-day mark. (Just look at the SOLD Feature, below, to see how many private sales were reported this week.)

UNBELIEVABLE WEEK ...

To say that Cars On Line had an unbelievable week is such an understatement. In order to show you all the SOLDs this week it took our secretary two hours just to type in the names of the cars on our SOLD list. (Click here to check the list in the SOLD Feature below.) According to the list, Cars On Line SOLD three times more cars this week than in any one week period since we've been publishing this newsletter. We are stunned to say the least. And that doesn't include the cars SOLD thru our Dealer Network. We said we were going to have a good year ... but we didn't know it was gonna' be THIS GOOD!

WELCOME A NEW ADVERTISER ...

It's not often that the CEO of a consulting firm is also a NASCAR team owner and driver. But that's the case with Rick Boysal, the affable founder of a staffing agency in the San Francisco Bay area. His involvement with the car culture has lead him to establish CTR Motors in Livermore, California and CTR Motorsports, a NASCAR Racing Team that he also drives for. His team has run Grand Ams and NASCAR Nationwide Road Races at Road America, Watkins Glen and Montreal.

Boysal's company, CTR Motors, has just joined the Cars On Line Dealer Network, and you will find many of his listings on the New Listings page this week. The deal that really caught my 1968 Camaro Z/28eye was a 1968 Camaro Z/28 which they have at a very affordable price. If you've been looking for a clean and original Z/28 (and who hasn't been), Boysal's people tell us that this one is worth looking at. According to the description, it has been babied throughout its life and has all the original paint, body and interior it was born with, not to mention the drive train. In their opinion, '68 was considered the best year for this 1st Generation Camaro. The red with white striping and black interior was the nicest combination as well. Now here is where it gets interesting. They are only asking $36,975. Hurry, we don't expect it to last the weekend.

CARS ON LINE JAILBIRDS ...

The Cars On Line staff has been decimated. Our wayward employees, Stephanie Olive and Laura Wanek, have been incarcerated to help send children with Muscular Dystrophy to camp this year. They need someone to help pay their bail so they can get back to work here at the Cars On Line office. Muscular Dystrophy (MD) is a group of muscle diseases that rob their victims of muscle strength and movement. It is devastating to watch this group of muscle diseases weaken and disable little children and adults alike. The Muscular Dystrophy Associataion is working hard to fight these diseases and offer comfort and care to its victims. Help our employees get out of jail. We need them back at work. And the MDA needs your help in these hard times to continue research and to help send children with MD to camp this year. These are some great kids. Click this link to help our jailbirds make bail. Every small donation really helps a lot.

SWEET PICKUP TRUCK VIDEO

We haven't had a chance to talk to this seller, but from the ad copy we assume that this 1970 Chevrolet 3/4-Ton Pickup Camper Special from Sugarland, Texas is an unrestored original. That's what it sounds like from the description anyway. And if that is true, this is a sweet 1970 Chevrolet 3/4-Ton Camper Special Pickuppickup in exceptional condition. The seller says it is driver quality, but this truck is way more clean than that. Take a look at this video where you get to go underneath the truck to see how clean it is. Click here to view the video. You only see something this clean from a truck that has been kept in a temperate climate. He says the truck is powered by an excellent running Chevrolet original 350 ci V8 and matching 3-speed automatic transmission on the tree, and that the whole drivetrain is in excellent condition and needs no attention. It will blow your mind when you see the interior on this truck. These trucks were so popular and you can tell how well made they were by the way this one has tested time.

PRICE REDUCED

Of all the years they produced the Chevy Biscayne I think one of the most difficult years to find is 1959. That's why we were interested this week when a private seller from Stuart, Florida told us to reduce the price on his 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne. You see this is not just any 1959 Chevrolet BiscayneBiscayne ... the seller says this one has the FE code 348 Tripower rated at 335 hp, a solid lifter motor. For all intents and purposes this was a factory made hot rod. The engine was developed under the guidance of Zora Duntov. The seller says all the engine and transmission components are date coded and correct, including the dual point distributor, carburetors, air cleaner and shifter. He says it is a true survivor with only 38k original miles. He says it retains it original original paint, interior, glass, plating and bright work. He originally was asking $65,000 for this rare car. But today it has a PRICE REDUCED tag on the ad. The new price is only $55,000. Could you find a more worthy car for your collection?

DEAL OF THE DAY

PREVIEW

In the popular DEAL of the DAY preview we give you first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY "rear view mirror" seen daily on the Cars On Line home page. Our fans wait eagerly each day to see which bargains will be highlighted. But often these cars sell right here in the newsletter before they have a chance to be viewed on the front page. If you aren't a newsletter subscriber you'll never know what you're missing. Newsletter readers are able to preview the best bargains on our website right here in the DEAL of the DAY feature. You'll always see it here first.

We always say that if you can find a Shelby Cobra replica for under $30,000 that is a great price range. That's not that easy to do. But here is one from Ipswich, Massachusetts, a deep 1965 AC Cobrablue, Factory Five 1965 AC Cobra with a 302 ci HO engine and Nitrous Oxide System (NOS). The seller says the Cobra was professionally built from the ground up, and looks amazing, attracting a lot of attention where ever he goes. He says it has no mechanical issues, drives great, sounds awesome, and has anodized aluminum throughout the engine compartment. The ad copy indicates that the body pan has been lowered to accomodate a taller driver. So it will be our DEAL of the DAY this Saturday. The asking price is only $28,000.

We noticed when we were at the Barrett-Jackson Auction this year that there were a good number of classic Microcars that were being sold. This niche market has become an important one for collectors. For instance, here is a 1958 Nash Metropolitan listed by Brandon Classics 1958 Nash Metropolitanat their museum in Griffin, Georgia. You usually won't find one this nice for the price. They tell us it has a nice rust free body and undercarriage, attributable to being in California until 2010. They say the car runs and drives very well, paint is shiny with no scratches or body dents, engine runs quiet and smooth, transmission shifts well, and that the brakes are sure. Even the engine bay is clean and tidy as you can see from the photos. If you've noticed these cars over the years you know that they rarely are in this kind of condition. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is only $9,500.

Although 1940 Fords are very desirable, you rarely see Ford's cousin the Mercury from that year. By virtue of its rarity you have to check out this 1940 Mercury 4-Dr Sedan just posted 1940 Mercury 4-Dr Sedanfrom Sioux Falls, South Dakota. If you were to count them, this could be considered an 8-window sedan. These cars are so big they could have been considered delivery vehicles. Plenty of room for six passengers and a big trunk in the fastback. It looks like it still has a Ford Flathead V8 engine although the oil bath is missing from the photo. The seller says it is a nice car, and that you could either drive it the way it is or rebuild it. He says it has an aluminum radiator and heads, with the original heads still available. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is only $10,500.

Don't forget! Have these cars inspected before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html

German engineering and precision is never more sensationally displayed than in the cars they build. When you drive a Porsche you drive a marque that commands respect among sports cars 1979 Porsche 911 SCthe way Rolls Royce gets respect in the luxury car arena. That's why it is not often that we have one featured in our DEAL of the DAY feature. But here is a 1979 Porsche 911 SC from Jemez Springs, New Mexico which is so reasonably priced we knew we had to feature it here. The seller says it is his everyday driver and has a strong motor with a 5-speed manual transmission. Although he says there are no dents or body damage, he does note some things that need attention. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. He is only asking $9,400.

There is a 2005 Harley-Davidson Road King offered for 2005 Harley-Davidson Road Kingsale in the Harley-Davidson Section today that you should take a look at. It is being sold through Unique Specialty & Classic in Mankato, Minnesota. This is a premium Classic edition FLHRCI with EFI. From the photos it looks like it is well equipped. They say it has only 3k miles, and comes with a big bore kit. You'll be intriged by how clean looking it is with that great looking silver paint. The photos are pretty good, and it surely takes a nice picture. We don't know much about the mechanicals, but it would be worth inspecting. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. They are asking $14,900.

Of all the cars that Fiat was selling in the U.S. back in the '70s, the one that was worth its weight was the Fiat 124 Spider. A seller from Chapin, South Carolina is offering a 1977 Fiat Spider for sale in the 1977 Fiat Spidernew listings today. Because the price is so reasonable I would assume this is a driver class car. He says it has just 60,000 original miles, with many new parts including top, tires, brakes, calipers, CD player, full tuneup and factory luggage rack. It has a 5-speed manual transmission. He says it is in very good condition, runs great, pale yellow with black interior and top. You can see that the interior looks good in the photos, and the seller says it is in very good shape. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. He is only asking $4,250.

Don't forget! Have these cars inspected before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html

A SLIDE SHOW ad was posted by a collector from Shelton, Washington. The subject of this SLIDE SHOW presentation is a 1960 Studebaker Hawk. Afficionadoes will likely notice the 1960 Studebaker HawkGolden Hawk stylings and paint. It is powered by a 259 ci V8 with a 2-barrel Stromberg carburetor and has an automatic transmission and power steering. The seller says this car is "clean as a pin" and has nice paint. He says the body is very solid with no rust. In the ad copy we noticed that this car is said to have been restored inside and out. It is a driver class car, but the seller says it has always been garaged and you can tell from the description how much care he has taken with it. He says it comes with the original Sales//Delivery Invoice (from 1960.) It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. He is only asking $18,500.
