You may have to read this newsletter fast ... some of these
cars are selling before we can even let you know about them.
A 1969 Camaro
SS 350 from Florida was listed for sale on Wednesday. But
before we could include it in our DEAL
of the DAY feature below, it was SOLD. By the
way, the DEAL of the DAY
feature is full of desirable cars at the best prices we have
seen in weeks.
Today in the Cars On Line Daily Update newsletter you'll see
a great selection of collector cars for sale, including a Baldwin
Motion Corvette, an original Kaiser Darrin, many desirable big
block mid-year Corvettes, a Hemi Cuda, a Superbird, exotic sports
cars, convertibles, incredible project cars and the biggest selection
of pampered, low miles cars we've seen this year so far. You'll
also see a fine selection of Late Model Sports Cars, with a 2010
Camaro SS, the 2008 Hemi Super Bee which is no longer being produced
and a 2008 Corvette Z06 all in the mix.
BARRETT-JACKSON PRICES
UP 14 PERCENT
We're back from Scottsdale and
have been sifting through the mountain of data that was created by last week's Barrett-Jackson
Auction. We now know that prices on investment grade cars were
up by 14 percent over last year's sale. Some categories of collector
cars that we follow did better than others. And there were some
surprises, but overall the averages show a trend to the upside,
and, most important, a stabilizing influence on the collector
car market in general. The cars that seem to have gone up the
most were classic '50s cars. Although prices were up over last
year on '50s classics, the selection was pretty thin at the sale.
There was an incredible selection of classic pickup trucks from
the '50s, '60s and '70s, probably the best we've ever seen at
the Scottsdale show. Click
here for an in-depth look at Barrett-Jackson Auction prices for
2010.
RARE ORIGINAL SPORTS CAR
We often hear how first generation
Corvettes and Ford Thunderbirds were the first American sports
cars. But there was another American sports car which is now
more rare and desirable than either of the aforementioned. The
Kaiser Darrin was the
first production fiberglass sports car in the US. The 1953 Corvette
was produced so late in the model year that the 1954 Kaiser Darrin
actually beat it into showrooms by one month. The two-seater
sports car featured a unique "pocket door" design that
made the doors slide back inside the fenders of the car. It also
featured a three-position convertible top.
Unique Specialty & Classics from Mankato, Minnesota has listed a 1954
Kaiser Darrin for sale on the Cars
On Line website. It is No. 218 out of the 435 actually built
by Kaiser for the 1954 model year. It was the only year of production
for the American made sports car. Unique says this one
has just 48,000 miles. From the photos you would conclude that
it was an older restoration that has been driven. Most of these
cars are in museums. This is one of the few which you will find
available for sale. The asking price is $129,500. A supercharged
1954 Kaiser Darrin was one of the top 20 cars sold at the Barrett-Jackson
Auction last weekend. It went for $220,000. You'll find another
1954
Kaiser Darrin listed for sale on our
site linked under the category Classic
Cars > Other. That's where you find
all the interesting "orphan cars" (those not produced
by the Big Three.)
FORD TURNS A PROFIT
The happy news out of Dearborn,
Michigan on Monday was that Ford had turned a profit in its fiscal
third quarter. We had reported here in the Cars On Line.com newsletter
that Ford's numbers looked good in terms of its increased market
share. As newsletter readers may remember we predicted that they
would soon be profitable again. But little did we know that Ford
would return to profitablility so soon.
Ford Motor Co. said it earned a profit
of $997 million in the third quarter, a $1.2 billion rebound
from the third quarter a year ago. Revenues from auto sales in
the third quarter hit $27.9 billion on the sale of 1.23 million
vehicles. That is a five percent increase in revenues for the
three-month period. Ford said they will have their first full
year of profitability since 2005.
Ford is the only one of the Big Three
automotive manufacturers to refuse government bailout money last
year. But in the third quarter, Ford benefited from the Cash
for Clunkers program. Ford also gained market share against Toyota,
General Motors and Chrysler. Ford Motor Co said it should be
on solid ground in 2011. However the UAW is likely to have something
to say about that. They rejected Ford's proposed labor contract.
RARE "MUSTERO"
OFFERED
In 1965 and 1966, Ford authorized
Beverly Hills Mustang LTD in California to build a hybrid version
of the Mustang which outfitted it with a Ford Ranchero style
mini pickup bed. Most Mustang afficionadoes believe that Beverly
Hills Mustang built 50 of these conversions, all authorized by
Ford. About 35 of them were thought to have been exported
to Europe. One of those, a 1966
Mustero conversion (shown here) is
offered for sale at Classic Muscle Cars.com in Wauconda,
Illinois.
Beverly Hills Mustang was authorized
by Ford to change the body parts as well as engine, transmision
and exhaust to create a mini Mustang pickup. The cost of the
conversion was $6,500, making the Mustero as expensive as a Shelby
Cobra at the time. The conversion was accomplished by removing
the rear seat and roof section just forward the rear seat. A
heavy duty fiberglass truck bed was installed. The roof line
was matched up with the rear window section giving the Mustang
the look of a mini pick-up. Custom side windows had to be installed
to match the newly shaped roof line. Here
is a link to a page on Mustang Mutations with some good information
and photos of Musteros.
LOW MILES CARS
Newsletter readers are always hearing us say that buying Corvettes
is like buying gold. Well, here is a 1979
Corvette L82 (shown above left) that is said to have only
31k original miles. The private seller from Jasper, Alabama adds
that it is "all numbers matching." He is asking $18,500
for the red 4-speed Vette. Similarly, the 1970
Buick Riviera GS (show above center) was listed by a private
seller from Shaftsbury, Vermont. He tells us that the "country
club" elegance is partly because of the low mileage -- just
33k miles, he says. And The Auto Collections in Las Vegas
has again listed a top quality, low miles classic, a 1965
Mustang GT (above right) which they say has only 6,200 original
miles.

PROJECT CARS
If you are still looking for a project car to restore this winter,
we have an interesting selection for you today. Chicago Classic
Cars in Gurney, Illinois has listed a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity. This is a 1915
American LaFrance Speedster (shown above left) that is in
need of completion. For all of you vintage racers, you may have
just discovered "gold." A 1940
Willys Pickup truck (above center) has been listed by a would-be
restorer in Pasadena, California. He says it has a straight all
steel body, with Ford 9", Chevy subframe, no engine, no
transmission. And for our muscle car restorers, what could be
better than a 1970
Pontiac Trans Am (above right) that is said to be straight
and numbers matching? This one is from Everest, Kansas.
And here are a few more: The Project
Car Section continues to be one of our most popular categories.
In looking for a project car to restore,
make sure you watch our New
Listings page for daily updates. Or
you can find hundreds of project cars for sale now in the Cars

Camaro SS has been listed by a classic car dealer in Mankato,

disc brakes and 4-piston calipers. They say it has just 1,800
miles. |
 |
Legendary Motorcar Co
just posted a highly desirable 2008
Corvette Z06 which they say has only 1,126 miles. It has
the 7.0L LS7 big block engine producing 505 hp. They say the
incredible modern 427 sounds great and spans the quarter mile

 |
Sporty and elegant, the 2007
Mercedes-Benz CLK Cabriolet is shod with 18" ASA wheels.
Prestige Motorcar Co in Clifton Park, New York tells us

STREET ROD HEAVEN

We're playin' with some Old Skool hot rods today.
This flamed 1932
Ford 5-Window Coupe from San Antonio, Texas sports steelie
wheels, a chromed Super Bell front end, red with black ostrich
interior, custom chassis and lots of billet aluminum. |
 |
Show graphics and a chromed Jaguar rear end are
featured on a 1932
Chevy Pickup street rod listed by Classical Gas Enterprises
out of Texas. They say it has an old skool look paint job by
Art Himsl. A multiple show winner, it was invited to Blackie's
50th Anniversary show. |
 |
The 1930
Ford Model A Lowboy Sedan has been chopped 4 1/2 inches,
says the owner in Greentown, Indiana. Obviously it has been radically
channeled and the ad says the wheels were raised 4".
It is a '60s hot rod fashion statement. |
 |
There are some great street rod builders in Colorado.
They say this 1932
Ford HiBoy Roadster has only 500 miles since built. It has
a Lonestar body, Cornhusker chassis, '95 fuel injected LT-1,
4L60E tranny, carbon fiber dash insert, many awards. |
 |
Classical Gas also
listed this Coast-to-Coast 1937
Ford Roadster which they say has under 5,000 miles. They
say it never fails to bring home trophies. You've probably seen
it at Goodguys. The stance is enhanced with Intro Matrix wheels. |

MUSCLE CAR CLONES
I don't care if it is a recreation, that 1971
Dodge Hemi Challenger (see above left) from Sanford, Florida
is drop dead gorgeous. They say it took a full detailed rotisserie
restoration to get this car to this point. Check out the beautiful
photos.
A 1969 COPO
Camaro recreation is very accurate to the original, according
to the seller from Kalamazoo, Michigan. It has the 427/425 hp
big block motor with an M20 4-speed. Thank goodness the seller
used a detailed SLIDE SHOW
ad to advertise it for sale. This way we can really study this
beautiful piece of work. And wait till you go through the photos
of this 1969
Boss 429 Mustang tribute just posted by Fastlane Classic
Cars in St. Charles, Missouri. You don't see too many of
these around, a clone of one of the most revered muscle cars
in the hobby. It has a performance built 429 to resemble the
NASCAR 429 in the original car, an automatic transmission and
a Hurst Quarter Stick shifter.

DEAL OF THE DAY
Newsletter readers know that
we feature the best bargains on our website right here in the
DEAL of the DAY preview. In this DEAL
of the DAY section of our newsletter
we give readers first chance at the bargain priced quality cars
on our website. Then during the coming week you'll see these
cars on our home page in the DEAL
of the DAY graphic that looks
like a "rear view mirror."
Corvette enthusiasts are gonna' go ape over a 1966
Corvette Big Block Coupe with an interesting color combination.
The seller from Millers, Maryland says it is Trophy blue with a silver stripe
and black interior. He is a Corvette guy, and because of that
he disclaims the orignality of this car. He says it is an original
big block car, a 427 4-speed, but that the current engine is
from another '66 427-390 hp car, in other words a correct engine.
That said, he indicates that this car has 66k original miles.
You will note that it has a '67 front with a stinger hood, four
fender flairs and chrome Hooker side exhaust. He says the tires
are new. He also says this car is rust free and has a detailed
frame. In summary, he says the car looks, runs and drives great!
Many of us will never own a big block Corvette ... except for
one of us ... the one that buys this one. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The
seller is willing to let it go for $35,000. Hurry, if you want
to be "the one."
The proud owner of this classic Ford says it runs as well
as it did the day it was born. A 1940 Ford Tudor
Sedan Deluxe from Hummelstown, Pennsylvania has been offered
for sale. The seller says it has been restored to top condition,
a nice driver with all new paint and straight as an arrow. He
says it runs out like new and that the interior is all new. Newsletter
readers know that '40 Fords are very popular among collectors.
It's the tear drop front headlights and that characteristic front
valance that makes them stand out. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday because
the asking price is $23,900.
Normally I'm not a great admirer of
white as a color for my cars. But I would make an exception in
this case. The 1971
Ford Torino Cobra from Lexington, South
Carolina is an older
restoration and the seller indicates it is still in nice driver
quality condition. The white exterior is wrapped with factory
strobe stripes and it rolls on factory Magnum 500 wheels. He
says it is a #'s matching M Code 351C 4V backed by the original
C6 transmission and the original 9" rear end. The seller
makes a point of saying that this is a mostly original Torino
Cobra. You can bet it is in no better than No. 3 driver quality,
but we will make it our DEAL
of the DAY next week ... because
the asking price is only $19,900.
Don't forget! Have these cars inspected
before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's
nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See
the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html
A whole generation of baby boomers watched as pickup trucks
evolved from the work trucks of the '40s and '50s into the modern
passenger vehicles of the '70s. Our desire for
creature comforts and tastes for high performance carried over
from automobiles to our work vehicles. What came about were trucks
like this 1972
Chevrolet C-10 Shortbed Pickup from Covington, Virginia.
Its features include a GM crate motor 350 with approximately
2,000 miles on it. The seller describes it as a solid, freshly
painted '72 shortbed with automatic transmission, power steering,
power brakes with factory air conditioning, factory bucket seats
and a sprayed-in bedliner. He says it runs great and drives great.
It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $10,000.
When we were at the Barrett-Jackson
Auction last week we saw classic T-Birds going for huge money.
The Baby Birds still are among the most sought after collector
cars. Here
is a 1955
Ford Thunderbird listed for sale by
a private seller from Manhattan, Kansas. He says it comes with
the removable hard top, and that he still has a soft top frame
(implying that the buyer will have the opportunity to replace
the convertible top.) He says it has a rebuilt 292 cubic inch
V8 engine and Fordomatic transmission. The car is described as
being "Rust Free!" and the odometer reading is said
to be 88,484.2 miles. It will be our DEAL
of the DAY next week with an
asking price of $23,000.
There is a SLIDE SHOW ad on a 1934
Ford 3-Window Coupe from Beamsville,
Ontario, Canada now featured in our Street
Rod Section. Between the SLIDE SHOW
ad and a video clip which he embedded in his ad, this Canadian
seller is giving buyers what amounts to an "online inspection."
In the video you learn that it has a Street Beast body, chopped
roof, Mustang II front end, front disc brakes, 350 sbc motor
w/mild cam and 350 automatic transmission with a B&M shifter.
He says there are only 3,500 miles on it since it was built into
a custom. He says it runs and drives excellent. It is priced
as a starter car, but this is more than a starter car. It will
be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is only
$22,000. Hurry! When buyers see the video and the SLIDE SHOW
ad together, this car won't last long.
Don't forget! Have these cars inspected
before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's
nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. Click here to link to the Cars
On Line Inspection Service page.
One of the most popular muscle cars
of the early '60s was the Impala SS, and the year that seems
to be most popular of all is this 1962
Chevrolet Impala SS Hardtop from West Richland, Washington.
The seller says it is an "all original, numbers matching
SS" with a 240 horsepower 327 ci engine, Powerglide automatic
transmission and bucket seats. And it doesn't hurt that it is
black with a red interior either. He says the plastic is still
on the rear seat. According to the ad copy, it is a 2-owner with
70,000 miles. He says it runs and drives great. That's what makes
it the perfect DEAL of the DAY, because the asking price is only $15,500.
Often there are more cars than we can feature on our front
page every week. Here is a list of cars that just missed the
